Sarah, one of the first-ever Alola Pokémon League Champions, is battling Prof. Kukui, A.K.A. the Masked Royal in an exhibition match! And, the first attacks of the match have already been called; in an ongoing Master Triangle Battle for the first half, Aqua, Goodra, and Keldeo squared off against the Soloist and Dragon Pokémon's main idol and rival and Kukui's ace: Incineroar. This red-hot battle began with the princess' strategic knowledge in taking advantage of his Pokémon Types and pinpointing any weaknesses she finds. But, now, Prof. Kukui switched out Incineroar for his trusty Braviary, prompting her to switch teams for Blitz, Curly, and her recently-acquired Hisuian Braviary! Where will this Psychic, Electric, and Flying match-up go from here and how will things heat up for our reigning battlers?
(Theme Song: Pokémon League Arc - Moon Pride (Sailor Moon Crystal ft. Momorio Clover Z))
MOON PRIDE! Anata no chikara na naritai (I want to be your strength)
The opening begins with an overview of Sarah, her friends, Asha, and Race standing together with their Partner Pokémon in the midst of a floral field and the full moon before the camera pans forward and passes Sarah upward before the main titles appear in a flurry of light, electricity, and snow.
POKEMON SUN & MOON: Pokémon League Blues!
Nine lights (red, gold, yellow, green, blue, white, crimson, cyan, and an orange/yellow/violet mix) flew around the main titles before passing by and the final light showed Asha, Race, Ash, Kiawe, Lillie, Lana, Mallow, and Sophocles standing in a circle with their backs to each other and looking out on the horizon (with the Alola girls having a tear fall from their eyes, the boys looking determined as they glared hard, Race looks contempt yet determined as a flash of lightning streaks by him, and Asha looks out to her right worriedly and with heartache)
Namida wa hono wo tsutai (Tears roll down my face)
Hitomo wa akaku moeru (My eyes are burning red hot)
Inazuma no yo ni hageshiku (Being just as violent as lightning)
Dareka ga ai wo sakeru (Someone cries out for love)
We then quickly pan over to Sarah as she holds her hands in a prayer position with her eyes closed as if she's in some sort of slumber before she eventually wakes up and the camera pans to the moon in a blissful space of wonder.
Tatoe Don'na (No matter what) Kurayami Demo (Dark it is)
Hitori janai yo ne? (You're not alone, you know?) Watashitachi Wo (We're together)
Terasa Moonlight (Shining in moonlight) (AH)
Sarah is then shown in Ula'Ula's Malie City on a rainy day (while in a hand-painted/CGI background and holding an umbrella over her head) where she turns and suddenly sees a person that looks like Dia with a Shiny Zeraora at a tree while holding an umbrella over his head and reading a book before they took notice of her. The little princess gave a brief yet nostalgic sigh before she was joined by Blitz and Curly and then her boyfriend, sister, and friends as they got together and cheered, throwing their umbrellas up in the air.
On'nankoko ni mo yuzurenu kyoji ga aru (Girls, don't give away your self-respect)
Sore wa ouji-sama ni unmei nagazu (Don't throw away your destiny for a prince)
Mizukara Tatakau Ishi (Fight for yourself)
Soon, Sarah's friends and Asha along with their Partner Pokémon start to fight against other trainers in the Alola League's elimination and quarter rounds as they climb their way to the Top 16 spots for the official tournament. Sarah and Race stand together as their Pokémon fight before they face each other and they order Blitz and Robbie to go at each other and see who's the better trainer and Pokémon between them.
Shiny Make-Up! Kagayaku yo hoshizora wo atsumete (Keep shining as you collect the starry sky)
Tada mamorareru dake no kayowai sonzai ja nai wa (We aren't weak girls who need man's protection)
In the midst of the competition, Team Skull appears to crush the competition and win in their own right with the most prominent of its members showing themselves as follows: Tupp, Zipp, Rapp, Plumeria, and Guzma (the main head of Team Skull preparing to compete himself). Kukui, Lusamine, Wicke, Faba, Burnet, Doug, Delilah, David, and Doug are shown together as they nod to wish everybody participating in the Alola League good luck and we even get a glimpse at an unknown Pokemon appearing from an Ultra Wormhole. Sarah reappears and draws Cosmic Grace before she holds it out and its light shines for all of Alola to see.
Shiny Make-Up! Tatakau yo hoshizora wo matotte (I will fight in the starry sky)
Atarashii densetsu ga ima koko kara hajimaru (A new legend begins from here)
La la, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon
The opening ends with quick shots of the main group of nine as they and their Pokémon reappear together and do poses, ready to face the Alola League head-on and have fun no matter who wins or loses the entire tournament.
(Pokémon League Arc Opening Ends)
"Braviary, use Rock Slide!" Kukui called, making the first move again as his Valiant Pokémon shot rocks at his challengers.
"Brace yourselves, guys!" Sarah called to her new team who agreed and held their ground.
"Right/Got/Roger!"
"Brave, let's kick things off on our end! Use Psychic and send them flying back!"
Sarah's Hisuian Braviary (whom she decided to call Brave so nobody would mix her and Kukui's Braviarys up despite their clear-cut region variant differences) smirked as he tapped into his psychic powers and used Psychic to stop the rocks from Rock Slide from hitting him and the Pikachu Couple, his eyes glowing in a blue aura and the flames present on his head flared.
"Return to sender!" he snarked cheekily as he threw them back at his descendant who was forced to dodge a few of them before he was hit by the other rocks, the rain from Goodra's Rain Dance bucketing down on him as he couldn't make himself fly faster (surprising Hala and Kukui in the process).
"Gotcha!"
"You're toast!"
"Come get us now!" Sarah, Blitz, and Curly smirked, seeing Kukui's Braviary starting to lose altitude.
"Good move. Now, it's our turn; use Sky Drop!" Kukui countered, smirking as his Braviary recovered and closed in to grab Blitz and Curly despite the rain continuing to bog him down.
"Okay, Brave, take to the skies!" Sarah called, getting a nod from her Battle Cry Pokémon as he nudged Blitz and Curly onto his back and they took to the skies to make this an aerial battle.
This made Kukui intrigued as he issued his next order to his Valiant Pokémon, "Oh, a little Aireal Battling, huh? Alright, we accept! Now, Braviary, Steel Wing!"
"Right, partner! Coming at ya, kids, Old Man!" Braviary nodded as he charged at his Hisuian ancestor and the Alolan Mouse Pokémon on his back, giving chase.
"Use Focus Punch twice, Blitz!"
Upon Sarah's signal, Blitz jumped off of Brave and punched the Valiant Pokémon twice in the chest with a karate yell, making him cry out in pain before he regained his aerial balance and Brave caught Curly's mate before he could pull off a crash landing on the battlefield.
"Amazing! Folks, it may be improbable given our current weather conditions but, even in the rain, Blitz and his crew aren't going down without a fight against the Valiant Pokémon! And, the ringleader of this motley crew showed his mettle with a super-effective Double Focus Punch!"
"Hang in there, Braviary! Use Steel Wing again!" Kukui reassured, having Braviary go at his opponents again with Steel Wing.
"Use Esper Wing, Brave!" Sarah countered, having her Battle Cry Pokémon charge his wings with aura as he cried out and darted at his descendant again as they clashed several times before Kukui issued Braviary's next move.
"Braviary, Rock Slide again!"
"Suck in the rocks with Twister!"
As Braviary fired Rock Slide to deal his opponents a hard blow, Brave countered with Twister as he sucked up the rocks and threw them back at Kukui's Flying Type.
"Use Steel Wing to break 'em!" the Alola Prof. screamed as Braviary broke through his own attack and came at his foes again.
"Blitz, Curly, quick! Jump up!" Sarah cried out, having her Pikachu Couple jump as soon as Braviary came within range which caused the Valiant Pokémon to gasp in shock as he looked up and realized he missed them. "Now, Wild Charge!"
Holding each other's hands, Blitz and Curly divebombed the dumbfounded Braviary with Wild Charge and struck him hard, causing them to crash land on the battlefield just as a giant cloud of dust and smoke erupted from their landing.
"Braviary!" Kukui gasped in alarm, seeing Braviary knocked out and Blitz and Curly standing over him victoriously.
"Braviary is unable to battle!" Hala declared, handing the first win to Sarah as the picture of Kukui's Braviary dimmed out, signaling his former student's first loss.
"And, that's her first win; with an astounding Double Wild Charge by Blitz and Curly, they, Sarah, and her Hisuian Braviary: Brave, have clinched their first win of the match! Even while squaring off against Kukui's Braviary, neither of them backed down and the Pikachu Couple's Wild Charge Heart-stomper has ended the Braviary Aerial Stuntacular!"
The crowd cheered as Kukui smiled, returning his Braviary before he took out another Pokeball and said, "Bravairy, return. Good work. You're all charged up from your little Thunderbolt victory, Sarah. But, can you, Blitz, Brave, and Curly handle this one?"
He threw his third Pokeball to reveal a fully evolved male Venasaur, stomping the ground hard as he roared with a proud smirk.
Sarah narrowed her eyes as she saw who Kukui's next Pokémon was, "So, he has a Venasaur, huh...?"
"Wow!"
"He's so big!"
"Epic!" Nano, Mini, and Tot praised, staring in amazement at Kukui's Venasaur.
"Interesting... Sounds like we got a wild animal/plant crossover this time," Rotoscope remarked.
"Yeah, you're right. Venasaur, the Seed Pokemon. A Grass and Poison Type, the giant flower on its back collects large amounts of sunlight that it turns into energy," Rotom-Dex briefed in agreement.
"So, Sarah, what do you think? My Venasaur's pretty cool, huh? That flower in full bloom on his back can make a trainer like me proud!"
"Yes..." Sarah nodded before she made her choice regarding her next trio of Pokémon. "Blitz, Curly, Brave, tag out!"
"Got it!" the Pikachu Couple and Hisuian Braviary called, returning to their human mother/caretaker and resting on her left before she brought out her final team of three for the Master Triangle half of the match.
"If we're going big and green, let's show Venasaur who the true king of the jungle is. Alright, Kurma, Kaji, Tyson, let's go!"
To the gang's and her family's surprise, not only did Sarah bring Kaji back out for his next match and had Tyson join him for the occasion but she also sent out her old babysitter: Kurma the Torterra, to face off against his fellow Grass Type.
"It's Kaji and Tyson!"
"Whoa, and Kurma, too!" Fishlegs and Buddha gasped in surprise.
"Good choice on her part."
"Yeah, Sarah chose well with Kurma. Not only is he partly a Ground Type which makes him resistant to Poison Types like Venasaur but they both weigh pretty much the same so it's all square here," Lana and Lillie noted, impressed.
"And, with Kaji and Tyson added to the mix with them being Fire Types, she's got the Type advantage," grinned Mallow.
Kiawe nodded as he kept a watchful eye and replied, "Yeah, but Rain Dance is still going on and it's a miracle Kaji and Tyson aren't bothered by the ongoing rain despite knowing that the damage done by their Fire Type moves will be cut in half. What's more, Rain Dance can only last for the next four turns and once they're gone, it's over. As far as we know, it'll be a fair game for now."
"And, it's yet another classic match-up, this time with Fire vs. Grass in a Battle of the Starters! Venasaur vs. Kaji, Tyson, and Kurma! Place your bets, people! Which Starters will come out on top in this round?"
Kukui smirked as he made his move, "Alright, Venasaur, use Petal Dance!"
His Seed Pokémon smirked in agreement as he fired his Petal Dance attack toward the Continent and the two Flame Pokémon, planning to take Kurma, Kaji, and Tyson down in one shot before Sarah countered, "Tyson, Kaji, use Fire Spin plus Aerial Ace to cut through that Petal Dance! Kurma, follow up with Rock Slide, now!"
Going for a team attack, Kaji and Tyson went first as they used Fire Spin and Aerial Ace to counter and cut through Petal Dance, allowing Kurma to counter with Rock Slide as both attacks hit their respective opponents. However, both Kurma and Venasaur held their ground and endured their respective blows despite not taking much damage from either attack.
But, Sarah wasn't done as she called out her next move, directing it to her old babysitter, "Rock Polish, Kurma!"
"With pleasure," grinned Kurma as he boosted his speed and vanished in the blink of an eye.
"No way!"
"Huh?! Where did he go?" Kukui and Venasaur gasped, looking around for the royal Torterra before he appeared beside him which caused Kukui to cry out, "Venasaur, look out!"
"Too late, Prof.! Use Headlong Rush!"
Immediately jumping him, Kurma bashed into the Seed Pokémon as Venasaur flew a few inches in the air and landed on the ground, skidding a few feet and wincing in pain from the powerful Ground Type move.
"Ooh! And, Kurma unleashes a super effective Headlong Rush as Venasaur takes one for his team!"
"Grass Pledge!" Kukui and Sarah shouted as they grinned, allowing Venasaur and Kurma to unleash their shared attack on each other.
"These two heavyweights both have similar move sets in terms of Grass Type moves so the damage done to each other is minimal but who's going to pull a fast one that will turn the tide of this match?"
"Use Sludge Bomb," Kukui smirked, now having Venasaur fire Sludge Bomb at Kurma.
"Oh, no! I'm not falling for that one! Kaji, Iron Tail defense!" Sarah countered again, having Kaji fly in front of Kurma and block Sludge Bomb using Iron Tail.
"Tyson, Mach Punch! Now!"
"Comin' right up!" Tyson grinned as he ran at Venasaur and coated his fists with Fighting Type energy, jumping up to land his punches while Venasaur and Kukui smirked slyly at him.
"Okay... Grab him, now!" the Alola Professor called, surprising everybody as Venasaur used his Flower to grab Tyson and trap him within it.
"(?!) Tyson!" Sarah screamed, giving out a shocked gasp.
"Tyson!"
"No!" added Kurma and Kaji, equally shocked.
"WAAAAAAAH?!" Lana, Kiawe, and Sophocles balked, aghast by Kukui and Venasaur's unexpected tactic.
"Never in all my life did I dream that a flower like Venasaur's can be used that way!" Mallow gawked in disbelief.
"Me, neither!" Lillie yelped in agreement as Race grunted, gritting his teeth.
"Yeah, but it's possible. Island Girl just got Tyson trapped between a rock and a hard place; Prof. Kukui had his Venasaur use his flower as a Venus Flytrap and once something is grabbed and held like that, he can't break free unless he has a miracle," the former BF Champion remarked darkly.
"Whoa! Tyson's now trapped; Mach Punch may not have been effective but Venasaur's rolling with the punches with his trap ploy! How is he going to get out of this mess?"
"Rgh! OW! Rats, this is why I don't eat vegetables; they always find a way to fight back!" grumbled Tyson as he tried to break free.
"U-Don't worry, Tyson! I'll think of something!" Sarah reassured, frantically trying to think of a plan.
Kukui continued to smirk as he shook his head and issued his next attack while playfully taunting Sarah, "Just like a flower fortress, he should get out of there since we're ready for our next move! Sarah, I hope you're ready because it's for you to be prepared for Venasaur's Solar Beam!"
"NO! If Tyson's inside Venasaur's flower when he uses Solar Beam and he hits Kurma and Kaji as well, they're all gone!" Sarah gasped in horror.
"Hey! Moves-For-Brains, time out! Don't I get a say in this?!" Tyson barked.
"Oh, no!"
"Tyson's within point-blank range of Venasaur's Solar Beam!"
"And, Kaji and Kurma can't attack if they can't free him from his flower!"
"I hate to say it but unless they and Sarah have a miracle, this Master Triangle Battle will be over before the second half starts!" Ash, Fishlegs, Ruffnut, and Sophocles fretted.
"Get out of there, Tyson!"
"You have to get out of the way!"
"Hurry before you get blasted!"
"You can do it, Monkeyman!" Mallow, Kiawe, Turtonator, and Sandy cheered, frantically trying to encourage Tyson to fight back despite his awkward position just as Venasaur had finished absorbing enough solar energy for his Solar Beam attack.
"End of the road, Sarah. Tyson met his match this time and your team's got no chance with him gone," Kukui smirked.
"Your Venasaur's Solar Beam may be powerful but don't forget, Rain Dance is still going on until the last turn! Solar Beam's power is cut in half as well and Venasaur won't get a chance to use it at full power! Tyson, Calm Mind plus Flame Wheel! Let's go!" Sarah snapped.
Hearing her words and knowing that he had to fight on, Tyson relaxed and boosted his Special Attack and Special Defense Stats with Calm Mind before he took a deep breath and used his Fire Wheel attack (effectively making a gamble that could decide the Master Triangle Battle). Venasaur felt the heat and unleashed his Solar Beam but Tyson fought back with Fire Wheel with all of the Fire Type energy he could muster to build up his flames and block the powerful Grass Type attack, causing it to backfire on him in an explosion.
"YEEAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGHHHHHHH!"
"AHH!" Kukui was shocked as Venasaur took the full brunt of his own attack while the freed Tyson jumped out of the smoke and returned to his place beside Kaji and Kurma, battered, bruised, but unbeaten.
"UNBELIEVABLE! Tyson escaped with a powerful Flame Wheel that made Solar Beam backfire on itself and explode, dealing Venasaur a ton of damage to himself!"
Kukui was stunned but he smiled proudly as he told Sarah, "Fantastic... That was the best and even I wasn't expecting that. Truly magnificent! You and your Pokémon exceeded my every expectation!"
His words were proven as the smoke cleared to reveal Venasaur having burn marks all over his body but he smirked with determination, feeling impressed by Tyson's last-ditch gamble and longing for some payback.
"Don't overdo it now. Use Vine Whip!"
"Got it, Partner," Venasaur nodded, firing his vines as he aimed for Tyson.
"Not so fast! Kurma, stop him with Stone Edge!" Sarah countered once more, allowing Kurma to use Stone Edge and block Venasaur's vines before they could get to Tyson and whip him up. "Now, Headlong Rush again!"
"Comin' at ya, Flower Boy!" snarked the royal Torterra, charging at the Seed Pokémon head-on for a frontal assault.
"Alright, then! Venasaur, use your Double Edge!" Kukui smirked again, having Venasaur meet Kurma in the middle of the field.
The two fully evolved Grass Type Starters struck each other as they clashed with Headlong Rush and Double Edge, the two attacks ending in a stalemate and causing an explosion. Both of them were sent skidding back to their respective trainers but while Kurma's Physical Defense Stats were lowered, Venasaur, on the other hand, suffered from recoil damage that added to the damage he took from Tyson's Flame Wheel and his Solar Beam backfiring on him.
It all came down to their last attack as both Grass Types were on their last legs, leaving Sarah and Kukui to scream together, "Use Rock Climb!"
With that, Venasaur and Kurma extended their claws from their respective paws, their claws glowing white as they charged at each other head-on for the last time and collided, creating another explosion, more powerful than the last.
"It all comes down to this final clash between these two heavyweight Pokémon! Who will be the first to drop?" Caster gasped as the smoke from the explosion started to clear.
When the smoke cleared, everyone was surprised to discover that Kurma and Venasaur were defeated after inflicting each other with Crush Claw.
"Venasaur!"
"Kurma..."
"Venasaur and Kurma are both unable to battle!" Hala declared as Kukui and Sarah returned their respective Pokémon.
"Great Odin's Axe! Kurma and Venasaur have knocked each other out!"
"Bloody hell...!"
"Geez, talk about fighting Grass Type with Grass Type regarding powerhouses!"
"Those guys were smoking out there!"
"Now, Kukui and Sarah are down one Pokémon a piece!"
"Except here, Kukui is down two Pokémon and Sarah only lost her babysitter," Stoick, Gobber, Hiccup, Snotlout, Tuffnut, and Astrid remarked, amazed.
"Thanks, Kurma, I owe you one...… You rest up now," Sarah smiled at her babysitter's Pokeball before she turned to Tyson and Kaji. "Tyson, Kaji, return for a rest!"
"Well, even though she lost Kurma on that one, apart from Incineroar, Sarah has managed to defeat two of Prof. Kukui's Pokémon in 2/3 Master Triangle Battles. But, the match is far from over as we transition to the second half in traditional single Pokémon combat!" Caster announced as Kukui prepared his next Pokémon.
"You're craftier than I remembered, Sarah! But, never second-guess what we're up to 'cause I got myself a lot of other powerful friends! Let's go!" he announced with a smile, sending out an Emploeon as it got into a battle stance.
"Big Brother!"
"Look!"
"Is that-?!" gasped Braixen, Quilava, and Donphan in stunned awe.
Prinplup's jaw dropped as he screamed, "No way! I-That's my final form, that's what I'll eventually evolve into!"
"Man, we got the king of the Arctic! And, this one's of penguin royalty!" Rotoscope buzzed in awe as he scanned Emploeon and picked up its file, "Empoleon, the Emperor Pokémon. A Water and Steel Type, Empoleon can swim as fast as a jet boat. The edges of its wings are sharp and can slice through an iceberg with ease."
"So icy cool!" Lana gushed, her eyes twinkling.
"Well, how do you like it, Sarah? I'm sure it's a surprise but this Empoleon of mine swam the world's seas tirelessly investigating ocean currents. This Pokémon is like an Explosion of toughness against Mother Nature's best element! Now, let's see who you'll choose against my Ocean Emperor!" Kukui smirked playfully, waiting for Sarah's next Pokémon of choice.
"Alright. I know just the Pokemon to tango with him, let's go!" Sarah smirked back, bringing out Dracovish in his first-ever Pokémon League battle to fight Empoleon.
"It's the Water/Steel Type Emperor Pokémon: Empoleon, vs. the Water/Dragon Fossil Pokémon: Dracovish! This is a true Water Pokémon duel as the past meets the future but which of these two will reign supreme in this latest Pokémon throwdown?" Caster announced as Dracovish and Emploeon are shown on the monitor as the next challengers from Kukui and Sarah.
"Dracovish, start off with Fisheous Rend!" Sarah commanded, her Fossil Pokémon charging forward with his bottom jaw covered in a blue aura as they made the first move.
"Empoleon, use Metal Claw!" Kukui countered with a smirk, his Emperor Pokémon charging as well and meeting Dracovish as he slyly baited him by slipping his right flipper into his mouth in a feint and striking with his left flipper as he used Metal Claw.
"OOOOOOH! Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh!" chirped Dracovish painfully as he felt like crying while hopping back a bit, his right jaw cheek looking a little swollen from where Empoleon's Metal Claw struck him.
"Hang in there, Dracovish! I know Empoleon's a powerhouse but you're ready for this! I'm here for you!" Sarah reassured despite feeling worried for her Fossil Pokémon as he shook off the pain and got back into a battle stance.
"Yeah!"
"Now, use Super Fang!"
"Munch, munch, munch, munch...…!"
"Here he comes, Empoleon!" Kukui called, still smirking as Dracovish charged at his Emperor Pokemon again. "Now, Metal Claw again!"
Once again, the two Water Types ended up in a clash of teeth and flippers but as was the case before, they were evenly matched as neither of them gained quarter nor edge while they fought.
"I like the look on Kukui's face; I guess it's because my Kukui's ultimate dream has finally come true!" Burnet gushed as she saw how happy and energetic her husband was as he continued his exhibition battle with Sarah.
"Wow, Dracovish is holding his own out there!"
"And, in top form, too!"
"If he keeps this up, he can hopefully outwit Empoleon and win this one for Sarah!" Sophocles, Lana, and Mallow grinned.
"A smooth play from Sarah and her prehistoric fighter, I should say," grinned a familiar voice as the group turned and grinned broadly to see Zayto, Solon, Ollie, Amelia, Izzy, Javi, and Aiyon arriving.
"Sorry we were late, kids, everybody. We've been bogged down by a few things and the Sporix back at Pine Ridge, we forgot all about the Alola Pokémon League," Solon chuckled as they took their seats.
"Hey, Zayto, guys, Solon! You're all here!" Ash cheered excitedly.
"Don't worry about it. You probably saw bits of it when the opening ceremonies and the entire competition were going on for the last couple of days. So, no harm, no foul," Kiawe reassured.
"No Sporix attacks back at Pine Ridge so far?" Lana questioned.
"It has gotten strangely quiet, so yeah. No news is good news as far as we can tell," Amelia replied.
"Tell me about it; the amount of Sporix attacks popping up today and throughout the whole duration of the competition you all were rumbling in are 'zilch'," Izzy snarked with a grin.
"We heard you and Sarah both became the Alola League Champions, Ash. Congrats!" laughed Aiyon as he and Ash shared a high-five.
"Who's winning the exhibition match so far?" Javi questioned.
"Sarah; Kukui's down by two Pokémon after three Master Triangle Battles and they're battling with Empoleon and Dracovish in a traditional battle right now," Lillie grinned.
"Seriously? That's incredible, I knew prehistoric Pokémon could fight after researching them but seeing a Dracovish going up against a battle-hardened Emploeon is insane," gasped Ollie in amazement as the Dino Fury Rangers watched Kukui's Empoleon and Dracovish continue to fight.
"Use Whirlpool!" Kukui shouted, his Emperor Pokémon activating one of his strongest Water Type attacks and catching Dracovish as he got caught in it.
"Man! Dracovish is now caught up in a powerful Whirlpool and-! Wait, hold up! What's this?" Caster blinked in surprise as he stopped himself and took a closer look at the Whirlpool attack to find Dracovish swimming with the attack's current.
"I love swimming! Just keep swimming, just keep swimming~!" hummed Dracovish happily as he swam with the Whirlpool's current.
Everyone was baffled and amazed by this but Kukui and Empoleon were shocked by the unexpected failure as they balked, "No way!"
"You've got to be kidding!"
Sarah laughed at her Fossil Pokémon as well as Kukui and Empoleon's shock as she said, "That's my baby fossil! Oh, yeah! BTW, Prof., thanks for handing us Empoleon's Whirlpool attack 'cause you've given me a new idea! Dracovish, freeze it with Ice Fang! Then, lift!"
"WHOOOOO-HOOOOOO!" hollered Dracovish as he jumped out of the Whirlpool attack and used Ice Fang, freezing it completely before he landed on the ground and used his powerful neck muscles to lift it above him.
"Whoa!"
"NO WAY!"
"Huh?!"
"Jinkies!"
"JEEPERS!"
"Big yikes!"
"How did he-!?"
"ZOINKS!"
"Holy shields!" Javi, Sophocles, Ollie, Mallow, Lana, Amelia, Hiccup, Fishlegs, and Astrid balked as they and the others were gobsmacked by Dracovish's strength.
Kukui was also flabbergasted as Caster shared the crowd's sentiments, "Look at that! Dracovish has frozen Whirlpool and lifted it by his neck muscles, making it his weapon! The princess and her Pokémon never cease to amaze us with their surprise tactics and this is one of them!"
"Now, smash him with his own Whirlpool!"
Dracovish gave a cheeky smirk as he immediately slammed the frozen Water Type attack onto Empoleon, sending him skidding back to Kukui and sending ice shards everywhere. The Emperor Pokémon was stunned and taken aback by the unexpected turnabout as he fell to the ground. Despite that, he smirked as he picked himself up and eyed the playful yet determined Fossil Pokémon.
"So, that's the extent of the training the princess gave you, kid. Not bad but that can only last as long as you still have some fight in you and you still have that," he said, dusting himself off and getting back into a battle stance.
"Dracovish, I knew you were powerful despite your age but even I wasn't expecting that tactic. Just what has Sarah been teaching you and the others?" Kukui thought, amazed as he called for Empoleon's next attack. "Empoleon, use your Hydro Pump! Go!"
"Right!" Empoleon nodded, shooting Hydro Pump in hopes of a chance of giving Dracovish a bad and painful soaking.
However, he and Kukui were once again taken aback when Dracovish simply opened his mouth and drank the Hydro Pump attack, something that also took the audience and the others watching by surprise as they gasped and spluttered in bewilderment.
"What?!"
"How did-?!"
Even Caster was flabbergasted as he voiced everyone's sentiments, "And, the surprises just don't stop coming! Empoleon fired back with a Hydro Pump but Dracovish just tanked it by eating it whole!"
"Nice going, Dracovish! Now-huh?" Sarah began before she stopped, seeing the spikes on Dracovish's stomach giving off a white glow.
What she didn't know, however, was that Dracovish was now preparing to go all out for her and his family. His determination to win and his devotion to his mother figure had allowed him to unleash a dormant power of his species as his spikes were covered with a red aura of energy. And, when he felt like he was fully charged, he let out a proud and powerful roar.
"RAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!"
"What...?" Sarah breathed in quiet shock.
"What's happening?!"
"Mom, tell us what's going on with Dracovish!" Goodra and Aqua shouted as they and everybody else felt a powerful surge of energy from Dracovish and braced themselves when he released small energy shockwaves while he roared.
"I don't know, his spikes started glowing and he became like this all of us a sudden!"
"Dracovish!"
"What's going on with the kid out there?" Keldeo and Tyson called, baffled.
"Something's not right, I'm sensing an unusual surge of power coming from him! It must've happened when he drank Empoleon's Hydro Pump and somehow absorbed its power!" Kaji responded as they held their ground.
"Something's going on with Dracovish!"
"I've never seen him looking like that before!" Nikki and James gawked, both looking astounded at Dracovish's new power as they saw his spikes moving back and forth as if they were extra sets of jaws.
Even the heroes and the Vikings along with the Pokémon and dragons sitting with them amongst the audience were left in shock as Rotom-Dex scanned Dracovish and found something that left him aghast, "No data, no data, does not compute! There's no data on whatever Dracovish is doing, it's as if he's grown a whole team of jaws from the spikes on his stomach!"
"Whoa! Are you seeing this, folks?! Something's happened to Dracovish's body; it appears to have awakened some sort of power that we know nothing about until now! But, what are the odds of that?"
"Something's up with Dracovish and we've got to put a stop to it," Kukui thought worriedly before he issued Empoleon's next attack. "Empoleon, get at Dracovish and quick! Use Drill Peck!"
"Gotcha, Partner! Alright, you overgrown fishhead! Take this, HYAH!" Empoleon roared as he jumped up and dive-bombed Dracovish with Drill Peck only for Dracovish to stop him dead in his tracks as his spikes suddenly extended outward and caught him without warning.
Kukui and Empoleon went pale when they noticed their mistake too late, "WHAT?!"
"Oh, no!"
Everyone gawked in bewilderment at what they saw but the Viking Twins and Snotlout thought it was hilarious as they howled with laughter over Dracovish's unexpected ploy which was his species' Strong Jaw ability.
"Empoleon!"
"Dracovish's spikes, they suddenly stopped him like they were jaws themselves!"
"A second set, maybe!" Izzy, Javi, and Amelia gasped in shock.
"Now, that's what I call power!" Lana exclaimed, amazed.
"And, talk about freaky! Those spikes have minds of their own!" Sophocles shuddered despite his excitement.
"Whoa! This is unbelievable; Dracovish used his powered-up spikes to stop Empoleon dead in his tracks before he could land a hit with Drill Peck!"
"Are you kiddin'? I didn't know a Pokemon like Dracovish could pull off a Houdini like that!"
"What kind of move is that?!"
"Or, what ability did Dracovish use to stop Empoleon?" spluttered James, Faba, and Wicke as their eyes bugged out.
"I knew Sarah would be creative with her Pokémon but never did I ever think she'd be this crafty with Dragon Types!" Lusamine added in disbelief.
"Awesome! Munchy, munch, munch, munch!" Trapinch cheered.
"Sorry, Empoleon, Kukui! It'll take a lot more than just a Drill Peck to take down Dracovish with his new trump card! Alright, Dracovish, now you got Empoleon right where you want him! Let it rip with Hyper Beam!" Sarah smirked.
"Empoleon, look out!" screamed Kukui as Empoleon was too late to react in time, Dracovish opening his mouth wide open and firing Hyper Beam at point blank range.
Empoleon screamed in pain as he was forced to take the powerful attack head-on before Dracovish finally stopped and released him. The Emperor Pokémon was finally beaten as he had swirls for eyes and groaned in pain, left in total disbelief over what the Fossil Pokémon did to him.
"EMPOLEON!" Kukui cried in defeat.
"Empoleon is unable to battle!" Hala declared.
The crowd went bananas for Sarah once again as Caster happily announced to everyone, "*That's it for Round 1 of our Single Battles second half; Dracovish wins with his unexpected new power and by a Hyper Beam knockout!*"
"…..I-I'm, I'm so proud of that boy!" sniffed a happy Arctozolt.
"He's done us prehistoric Pokémon well with what he learned," nodded Dracozolt, smiling in approval as Dracovish happily waddled over to Sarah who rubbed his head happily.
"You did it! That was great, Dracovish!" she laughed as the Fossil Pokemon shared her excitement by playfully bringing her close with his spikes and munching on her head twice. "Ow! Okay, okay, boy! HA-HA-HA-HA-HA! Take it easy, you can munch on me after the match!"
"Empoleon, return. You were great, take a good long rest," Kukui smiled at Empoleon as he returned him to his Pokeball and faced Sarah again. "That was some punch, Sarah! You've knocked out three of my Pokémon and you were able to figure out how to bring out Dracovish's true strength!"
"I can say the same about you and your Pokémon, Prof.! But, I can tell you're just getting started, huh?" Sarah replied.
"That's right. But, since you've defeated three of my Pokémon, I'd say it's time we take a short Rest and recharge ourselves before we continue. Right, Hala?"
Hala agreed, knowing that Kukui and Sarah and their Pokémon would need a break and develop new battle strategies as he declared to the audience, "And, now our competitors shall break for a 10-minute recess with three of Kukui's Pokémon beaten! During this time, the trainers must adapt and develop new battle strategies after we resume the match!"
The crowd cheered happily for Kukui and Sarah as they and their Pokémon took a timeout to recharge and come up with a new game plan to deal with each other when the match continues. They all battled hard and they would need to be ready for whatever new tricks they have planned for each other and they weren't going to go down without a fight.
Reaching the trainer's lounge on her side of the field, Sarah and her Pokémon joining her took this time to stretch themselves out and recharge as they grabbed some snacks and water, wondering what to do against Kukui's remaining Pokémon. They also knew that it meant Kukui had one Pokémon left which remains a mystery to them apart from Lucario and Incineroar so they would have to be ready for his supposed hail mary even though he has yet to reveal it should they battle Incineroar or Lucario next.
As they relaxed, Sarah noticed her friends and human family along with the Dino Fury Rangers and Solon approaching her to congratulate her and her Pokémon on her progress so far.
"Daughter."
"Sweetheart," Doug and Delilah called.
"Hey, guys, Mom, Dad," Sarah smiled before she turned to the Dino Fury Rangers and Solon. "Hi, Zayto, Ollie, Amelia, Solon, Izzy, Javi, Aiyon."
"Hello, Sarah, we just came to see you battle against Prof. Kukui. Nothing new from the Ranger Hotline so we have some time off to watch you two in the exhibition match. Congratulations to you and Ash, by the way," Solon chuckled with a warm motherly smile.
"Yeah, I couldn't believe it when we saw what happened between you two in the Finals."
"And, you managed to set Guzma straight with extreme psychological warfare before you beat him in the Semifinals, too," Ollie and Amelia grinned.
"Even your friends, Race, and your sister were going all out against each other leading up to the end of the tournament and that was wild."
"You guys were getting your A Games on like crazy from start to finish," Javi and Izzy added, grinning excitedly.
"It's too bad we couldn't be here sooner to watch the whole thing let alone watch it all on the TV. You guys were a blast and you were on a roll," Aiyon remarked, impressed.
"We also found out about the incident involving those three Guzzlords that attacked last night. We're so glad you're all okay," Zayto put in, relieved that their fellow rangers were unharmed.
"Yeah, sorry we worried you. But, everything's fine now and we had a little help along the way," Ash replied as he directed the Dino Fury Rangers to Dia and his Zeraora. "Guys, Solon, this is Dia and his Zeraora. He's also a Power Ranger and Sarah and her family helped them save their world from Guzzlord, too."
"Dia, Zeraora, allow us to introduce to you the Power Rangers Dino Fury and their faithful companion, Solon," Lillie added.
"Nice to meet you," Dia replied, sharing a handshake with the Dino Fury team before he turned his attention to Solon. "And, pardon my judgment but you look more like a lizard than a dinosaur and a robotic one by the looks of it."
"Oh, I don't mind; I'm used to it by now. I am a dinosaur if you're wondering, a Solonosaurus, actually; but, I was badly wounded helping Zayto and Aiyon during an ancient battle many years ago," Solon nodded, taking no offense to Dia's inquiry.
"Yeah, but getting back to your match, congratulations. You too, Dracovish," Amelia smiled, getting happy and innocent munches from the Fossil Pokémon.
"Now that you've taken out three of Kukui's Pokémon, you're halfway through with the exhibition match," Aiyon nodded eagerly.
"And, it's all thanks to Dracovish and his spikes; I had no idea he could do that after eating Empoleon's Hydro Pump like he did," Sophocles praised, giving an impressed smile.
"No kidding, even I couldn't believe it when Dracovish pulled off that little surprise grab with his spikes," Sarah replied.
"Well, your win comes down to Prof. Kukui's remaining Pokémon so Incineroar and Lucario are the next two Pokémon in your way."
"But, he still has one left after them and we don't know what it is," Mallow and Lana informed.
"Got any ideas on how to keep your lead going before Kukui gets the drop on you?" asked Zayto.
"As Mallow and Lana said, Zayto, we got Incineroar and Lucario to deal with but I'm not sure about his final Pokémon. He's probably saving that one for last," the princess said.
"And, should Tapu Koko reappear to challenge you for a third time, Island Girl?" Race reminded, knowing of Tapu Koko's interest in his girlfriend.
"That'll be a sight to see. Plus, it'll be interesting to fight him on a league stage this time should he make an entrance," Sarah admitted with a smile, wondering how her third match with her island home's guardian would go down.
"Well, if what you told us about your matches with him is anything, Tapu Koko is quite playful yet unpredictable when he can be. But, he's also a fierce fighter and he's not going to let up should you and your Pokémon face him again, Sarah. It'll be wise for you to be ready for anything he may pull, especially since he'll have his mother and family's support this time," Solon advised.
"Still, your father and I know you'll do us all proud along with Kukui, dear."
"You keep showing him how the Alolan Royal Family fights; we're all here for you," Delilah and Doug grinned at their daughter.
"You got it, Mom, Dad...…" Sarah nodded as she shared a hug with her blood parents.
Soon, Kukui and Sarah's 10-minute recess was over, and with new battle strategies at hand and themselves and their Pokémon fully recharged (with Aqua, Goodra, Keldeo, Tyson, and Kaji retaking their places with their human mother/caretaker), it was time for them to continue the exhibition match as the crowd cheered.
"We're back, ladies and germs; the exhibition match will continue now that our competitors and their Pokémon are fully recharged and ready for more! Right now, Kukui's down to three Pokémon and between them, Sarah only has two remaining but as always, you never know how a battle turns out until it's over!"
"Now, Sarah, it's time for me to use all the energy I can muster to take you down!"
"Don't be so sure about that, Prof.! You never know what could happen, especially since someone will be itching for a third match soon!" Kukui and Sarah bantered as they smirked and Tapu Koko appears unbeknownst to them.
Kukui continued to smirk as he brought out his next Pokeball and released his fifth Pokémon, "Get ready for this, it's a familiar face from yesterday! Here we go!"
It turned out that Kukui's fifth Pokémon was none other than his Lucario, the male Aura Pokémon getting into a battle stance and surprising Sarah as she gasped, "Lucario?"
"And, Pokémon Number 5 from Kukui is Lucario! Who will Sarah have on stage to rumble with this Aura-reading master?"
"Alright!"
"So cool!"
"He looked so strong!" Ash, Lana, and Mallow breathed in amazement as Rotom-Dex scanned Kukui's Fighting/Steel Type while Kaulu and Loki cooed in awe, their eyes twinkling at Lucario as they realized they're seeing yet another one of their evolved forms.
"Lucario, the Aura Pokémon and the evolved form of Riolu. A Fighting and Steel Type, Lucario can concentrate its mental energy into a mysterious wave called Aura that can reduce boulders to dust."
"...…Well, what do you know? Never thought I'd be fighting that guy from yesterday. But, if that's the case," the princess remarked as she brought out a Beast Ball, surprising the heroes and intriguing Kukui and Lucario as they realized she planned to use an Ultra Beast this time.
"Hmm?"
"Hmm..."
Lillie, Lusamine, Burnet, Wicke, and Faba, however, were shocked as they saw the Beast Ball in her right hand, "Ah!"
"Wasn't that-?!"
"It is!"
"It's a Beast Ball!"
"Inconceivable!"
"I hope you're ready for some fireworks, Prof.! 'Cause this familiar face of mine is here to say that you don't stand a ghost of a chance! Let's go, Naganadel!" Sarah shouted, sending out Totem Naganadel as everyone gasped in surprise and amazement.
"Holy Arceus! It's Sarah's old Ultra Beast, Poipole, now a Totem Naganadel! The princess of her home of Poipole Fantasy from Ultra Space!" Caster gawked.
"WHAT/NO/HUH/AHH/HEY/NO WAY/OH, MY!?" the Dino Fury Rangers and Solon screamed, their eyes bugging out as they remembered seeing Naganadel as a Poipole.
Lana had to laugh when she saw their reactions, "Yep, that's her! Our little Poipole evolved!"
"And, like her mother, she's now a Naganadel!" grinned Lillie, eager to see how Naganadel does in a Pokémon League battle.
"She's huge!"
"She's got to be bigger than Duke looking like that!" Izzy and Aiyon breathed, stunned.
"I had a feeling she would use Naganadel; it has been a while since they battled together so it'll be interesting to see how much she has grown after leaving us," Kiawe chuckled, crossing his arms with intrigue.
"Alright! Give it to 'em, Princess! YEAH!" cheered Duke as he watched Naganadel take her place against Lucario.
"I never imagined in all my life I'd be able to witness a Pokemon battle featuring an Ultra Beast that bonded with a trainer! It's like a fairy tale come true!" Wicke beamed, finally getting over her shock.
"We were right to leave Naganadel in Sarah's hands when she was just a mischievous but sweet little Poipole," Lusamine grinned in approval.
"Whoa... Alright! Yeah, WHOO-HOO-HOO-HOO-HOOOO! Finally, finally, finally! I'm gonna battle, shaka-la-ka!" Poipole cheered as she looked around and twirled in her excitement.
"I'm glad you could join us for this one, Naganadel! Now, let's show everyone your true strength as the Ultra Beast you are now!" Sarah grinned back.
"Let's party!"
Kukui and Lucario grinned in anticipation as they could tell their battle with Naganadel was going to be interesting, "Now, this is going to be an exciting battle! Lucario, give it all you got!"
"I'm ready, master!" Lucario answered.
"Naganadel, the princess of Poipole Fantasy, vs. Lucario, the Aura Pokémon; even with the long history of Pokémon battle, this is a most unusual match! Let's see what our new rising stars have to offer!"
"Let's go, Naganadel! Use Duel Wingbeat!"
"Close Combat!"
Give or take, win or lose, the battle between Sarah and Prof. Kukui is chock-full of twists and turns as the journey continues!
