Madam Presidents office, MACUSA New York
When we step in to her office I'm stunned. Bookshelves filled with rare books, scrolls and rewards, my eyes roam around trying to take everything in. Tall windows from ceiling to the floors with a spectacular view of New York gives the room an airy feeling. She motions for us to take a seat in front of her desk as she lovers herself in her chair. No chair would be the wrong word, its more like a throne.
I remove my coat and take a seat jumping when a house elf pops in and delivers coffee and some kind of pastry. I grab one and spin it around trying to figure out what it's supposed to be
Tina laughs beside me "Oh this brings back some memories" looking nostalgic she smiles at me "It's the Niffler cookie" she says and hold it up for me to see. Giggling I look down at the cookie in my hand and yes, it's a niffler alright if somewhat crooked.
"Oh yes, Mr Kowalskis bakery is still providing the MACUSA with pastries, it's the least we can do after everything we put him through" Madam President says with a smirk and wink at me.
We all laugh and make some small talk while we enjoy our coffee and I feel myself relax as my nerves settle.
"So, tell me Miss Granger, what can I do for you?" Madam President asks suddenly. Putting my cup back on her desk brushing the small pastry crumbs off my pants and sit up straight in my chair, this is my chance.
"When I discovered what was going on at the ministry, I was disappointed and hurt. But most of all angry that all the hard work I was doing was for nothing. The magical beings in our community have always been discriminated and pushed aside and that is something I do not stand for. I spent two years of my career to try to change that. I will never forgive Kingsley or Harry for the way they plotted against me, to have me removed from the magical community"
Pausing to swallow the lump in my throat when I remember Harrys face and the words he screamed at me.
" I refuse to give up" I whisper blinking back the tears in my eyes.
"I want to contribute to a better world and it does not matter where I do it. I saw the article in on MACUSAs website about the problems with the treaty up in Washington. I've always admired how far you've come and how open you are for change here at the MACUSA and I wanted to contribute, therefor, Madam President, I'm here to offer my services and my knowledge and help solve the problem" She sits quite for wat feels like an eternity before she lets out a small laugh that makes me swallow nervously.
"I appreciate your passion and your fire Miss Granger and It is a privilege to witness you in your element" She pauses and rise from her throne and walk around the desk and hold out her hand and I rise slowly putting my hand in hers.
"But there is no need for you to convince me my dear. You could simply have stated that you wanted a job and it would have been yours" her smile is kind and I let out a relieved laugh.
" You're a blessing to our world Miss Granger and I wish there were more witches and wizards with your view of life. It would certainly make the world a better place"
I feel my face heat up at her praise and I squeeze her hand "Thank you " I whisper.
She smiles and walk back around her desk and sit down on her throne again and I sink down in my chair, feeling lighter.
Tina laughs, her eyes shining with pride "You remind me of Newt so much Hermione" I smile feeling my face heat up again
"I take that as a compliment "
Madam President draws up a contract that states that I have free reign to do whatever I deem necessary and work how much or how little I want, have all resources at my disposal. I try to argue that the salary is too much but she just smiles and wave away my protests. If I thought my salary at the Ministry was ridiculous this is insane.
"Use it how ever you want, this is not something I'm willing to change. The weather conditions up there is rough, somewhat similar to England in the winters, but sometimes all year around" She smirks "That might make you feel more at home Miss Granger"
Laughing I nod my head and take a sip of my now cold coffee and murmur a heating spell under my breath to make it drinkable again.
Madam president summons a folder from one of the shelves and hold it out to me together with the contract.
"In this folder is everything you need to know about the situation, every member of the tribe is included, their customs and all around information about the land. There is also a separate file about the vampire coven and the information you need" she pauses and looks conflicted "It is not very professional of me to say this but, there is something about one of them that makes even me uncomfortable. I don't want to say to much so that you can form your own opinion but please, be cautious and don't hesitate to take action if you feel uncomfortable or threatened"
The serious look on her face makes me slightly nervous and I nod my head and I glance over at Tina and she also have a look of concern on her face.
"One thing left then Miss Granger " I look back at her and she is holding a quill in gold, I swallow the lump in my throat and reach for it and put down the contract on her desk. I look glance at Tina again and this time there is no concern only pride and a big smile, I smile back letting out a laugh under my breath at her expression. I look down at the line waiting for my signature. This is it, the start on a new journey. I sign my name and a golden glow light up the paper.
"Welcome to MACUSA Miss Granger" Madam President says as she rises and walks around her desk holding out her hand.
I stand to shake her hand and smile "Thank you"
When Tina and I step out of the MACUSA headquarters it's 5pm and I feel my stomach growl and all I can think about is that amazing Kung pao chicken and the bathtub in my hotel room.
And I really want to call Severus and tell him the news. I glance down at my wrist watch, 10pm in London. He's probably still up.
Tina squeezes my shoulder to get my attention
"I have to get back home, my portkey leaves in one hour and I know you probably want to start organizing and read through the files" I laugh shaking my head
"You know me so well. Please, tell Luna I'll owl her when I get settled. I'm so grateful that you came, it means more than you know "blinking back the tears in my eyes as I pull her in for a hug.
"Nonsense, we will always be here for you and once you've settled in, we will come over to visit you. Take care Hermione and be happy. You deserve it my dear"
Squeezing her harder before letting go I wave when she turns and walk down the street, brushing my tears away as I watch her disappear in the sea of people. I put in my air pods and call Severus as I quickly walk towards the hotel and pick up my dinner on the way. When I finally enter my room I've told him all about my day and prattle on about how surprised I was when Tina showed up and about the meeting with Madam President.
" So now you're talking to an employer of the MACUSA" he laughs and I can picture his sneer in my head when he drawls
" From one brain dead employer to another, do you want my congratulations or my condolences?" laughing as I pull out my food and put it on the table
" How was your day Severus? Anything worth sharing or did you just sulk around at the apothecary all day?"
He huffs " Your manners have gotten wors in the few hours you've spent outside of British soil, as a matter of fact I have some news but now I'm tempted to torture you with the suspense of not telling you"
I giggle and try my best at an American accent " Oh staap it Severus, I know you are dyyying to tell me " laughing I sit down on the bed, he growls and makes a gagging sound that makes me laugh even harder
"Never ever do that again or I will ignore you for the rest of my life" He grumbles as I giggle.
"I'm sorry, that really was awful"
"Indeed, now shut your moth and let me tell you about a very interesting meeting I had with Minerva and one missus Potter"
I gasp and stand up feeling my pulse speeding up
" I knew that would get your attention" he says and I hear his smirk through the phone.
"I was summoned to Minervas office around lunch and to my surprise missus Potter was there. She was very distraught and upset. She had some concerns about her husbands behaviour as you can imagine"
Sinking down on the bed again listening to Severus as he recalls what she told him and what he discovered really happened from the information Ginny provided. Harry was drugged? The Obedience Potion, while it was not very common, I've read about it and know of it's affects on a person.
" That would explain his sudden change of character" I mumble.
Severus grunts in agreement
"Do not feel sorry for him Hermione, he should have known something was not right at the beginning. The potion takes a few weeks to really take a hold over a person. Knowing mister Potter he probably thought nothing of it, prideful bastard that he is"
Severus grumbles and I let out a small laugh knowing he put that last part in as an attempt to try lighten my mood.
"Thank you for telling me, I agree with you. He should have told someone about it when it first started. I'm more relieved knowing his behaviour towards me had nothing to do with me"
Letting the news sink in I feel a weight I didn't know I carried disappear.
We continue talking about his business for a while before hanging up. Dropping my phone on the bed next to me I stare up at the ceiling. Today has been a long day, a good day, but long.
Getting up from the bed walking in to the bathroom, letting my hair down as I turn on the taps to the bath and grab my food and settle down in the bath to enjoy my dinner.
I'm so excited and curious to start looking through the files about the covens and the pack and I almost inhale my dinner so that I can start.
I open the folder taking out the files on the coven first. The warning Madam President gave me tells me the problem lies there and I want to be prepared.

Because of the cloudy and rainy weather conditions of Forks the vampire clan can act as normal citizens, while it is questionable for vampires to mingle among humans at this level the MACUSA have chosen not to interfere before now because of their choice in diet.
The current problem is the involvement of human, Isabella Swan.
The vampire Edward Cullen claims she is his mate and, because of this, reviled his true nature as a vampire. This is against the law of the vampire community and the MACUSA.
In addition to this breach of secrecy the pack of shapeshifters have made claim on Isabella Swan as well. She is the imprinted mate of the future chef Jacob Black. See their statement on page 6.
Vampires are known predators and their main victims are humans. Because of this they have the ability to put humans under a thrall spell. With their smell, touch and saliva they affect the human brain as if under the imperious curse.
The MACUSA have strong suspicion that the relationship between human Isabella Swan and vampire Edward Cullen is nonconsensual. The investigators that were sent from the MACUSA to investigate were not allowed close to human Isabella Swan and were threatened by Edward Cullen. The leader of the Cullen clan has expressed worry and is afraid of the reproductions if this romance would be discovered by the vampire royalties, The Volturi.
While MACUSA would simply obliviate the human of the knowledge that vampires exist the Volturi are not as accommodating. The punishment is death for both vampire and human.
It is therefor a priority that the MACUSA solves this problem before there is unnecessary bloodshed.
Putting down the file to take a sip of my wine, this is some complicated shit. How could the other clan members not stop this Edward character before it got out of hand? And why get in to a relationship with a human when you're an immortal? He must know it's against the law to turn a human in these times and especially in the United States.
Love makes you stupid, if it even is love and not just an unhealthy obsession.
Resting my head against the tub taking another sip of my wine closing my eyes. This is going to be a challenge for sure, I have to read up on spells that works on vampires. This Edward character gives me the creeps honestly, a mind reader? Now I'm really grateful Severus helped me with occlumency training.
I look over the pictures of the clan again, the one called Emmet is big as a Grizzley bear, it's unnerving.
Sure, I fight for the rights of magical creatures but, vampires are something that gives me chills and not the good ones. And a vampire that big among humans makes me very, very nervous. Not much would be needed for him to let his predator side free and it would result in a massacre. Hell, the population of Forks is 3120 people, and there is seven of them. The whole town could be gone in a day.
Closing the folder, I get out of the tub and wrap one of those big fluffy towels around me as I walk out of the bathroom and sit down at the small table in my room and summon my lotion from my bag. The smell is a little strong, Moringa flower and lime. Not really my scent but it was a gift from Ron and I hate throwing things away, better use it and later buy something that I like. At least it makes my skin soft and smooth.
Once I'm done I throw myself on the bed, today really took a lot. The meeting at MACUSA and the news Severus had. I glance at the folder on the table tempted to start reading up on the pack but a big yawn stops me. No, now I need some down time and just relax. I turn on the tv and zap through the channels. I squeal in excitement when I notice Vikings is on, this is one of my absolute favourite series to watch. There is something about strong men and mythology that gets me every time. I giggle at the thought and settle down to enjoy the episode.
Not even ten minutes later I feel my eyes drop and I groan as I get up to brush my teeth. Not bothering to turn on the light in the bathroom, turning on the light makes the process of getting sleepy harder and I right now I just want to sleep. I brush my teeth and stumble back to the bed, turning off the tv and slip under the covers, this bed really is like floating on a cloud, smile and snuggle in deeper.
With my new salary I'm definitely investing in a bed like this I think before sleep takes over.
