2009-17-Afghanistan
Eddie is doing open-heart surgery on a dying soldier. When he finishes, the doctor releases him. Eddie makes his way to his tent. He sees some Delta Force hanging out and laughing. Their behavior amuses him.
"When did you come back?" He asks them. All five jump in surprise at his voice. They smile at him. One of them opens their arms for Eddie. He leans into them.
"Today. We leave tonight," Another says.
"Shame," Eddie says, and the five giggles.
"Can you make those caramel cookies or brownies?" The one holding him asks as they play with Eddie's curles. The boy gets up and pulls them up.
"Anything for you, Lydia," Eddie says, making the girl laugh. Lydia and four others rush to the kitchens. One stays behind. Eddie smiles.
"Hi, Natalie," He greets the woman. She smiles at him.
"How are you?" She asks. Eddie smiles at the therapist.
"I'm okay. How are you?" He answers and asks back. The woman looks at him with a smile. Both are at the entrance of the kitchens. The four are at the table.
"I'm doing good. Hard work, but good," She says. She joins the four, and Eddie heads to the kitchen. He makes the brownies.
"Eddie, these are so delightful! Thank you!" Another person says. Natalie elbows them.
"Natasha! Где твои манеры, Наташа?" Natalie says. Eddie laughs at them.
"Thanks, Natasha," Eddie says—the two smile at him.
2011-19-Afghanistan
Eddie's in the kitchen baking a cake. Natalie, Nasha, and Lydia are at the table. The two other people are with them. When Eddie returns with the cake, the five are curious about it.
"Happy Birthday Sasha!" Eddie puts the cake in front of her. The woman smiles at this.
"Thank you, Eddie. How did you know?" She questions her little brother. Eddie is their little brother.
"Happy birthday," He repeats, making Sasha laugh. He won't tell. It's the caramel brownie but as a cake. Lydia pulls their brother to her, making the group smile. Everyone at base knows that they're all close.
"What's with the cake?" A voice asks. Eddie brightens at the sight of the group. He gets up and rushes to them.
"SETH!" Eddie hugs the man. Seth laughs at the kid. Another person rubs Eddie's back.
"It's Sasha's birthday," The last person in the group says.
"Sonya!" Sasha looks at her. The other four women laugh.
"Happy birthday, Sasha!" The SEALS tells the woman. Sasha smiles.
2013-21
"What do you mean Eddie was kidnapped?" Lydia demands her CO. The CO sighs.
"Diaz was kidnapped during a riot. We're getting our men back, Alonso-Ramirez," the Swahili accent of the CO can be heard. Lydia is about to yell, but Natasha holds her arm.
"Let Seth get him," She says. Her Russian accent is thick, making the youngest woman sigh and nod.
"Sorry, Mad Dog," She mutters. Their CO smiles.
"I get it, but trust us. Diaz is one of our best medics," Mad Dog answers. The five are called to action.
Seth and his team find Eddie. The kid was brought back. Seth and his group stayed for a while.
"Osaatko tehdä karamellikeksejäsi, lapsi?" A person asks. Eddie smiels gratefully at them.
"Kiitos, Serena," Eddie responds. The woman kisses his forehead. He makes the cookies.
2016-24
Eddie's lying in the medical tent with a broken body. The army is sending him home after giving him a Silver Metal. He's the last one to be let go. The twins, Natalie and Natasha, grabbed Chris from the baby mama and brought him to Seth's and Serena's place in LA. Eddie is transported to Germany for healing.
Lydia is waiting for him in the hospital. She's there to help him home. Once in Los Angeles, two people are there to pick them up. Eddie smiles at the two.
"Alec. Klaus. How are you two?" Eddie asks the two men. Alec and Klaus smile at their son. Klaus helps Eddie move while Alec and Lydia are side by side.
"How long until you can make those caramel brownies?" Lydia asks, making all three men laugh.
2017-25- Los Angeles
Eddie makes it through the Fire Academy with flying colors and meets with all the different captains of the Fire Department. Once the station that he wants in mind, he goes home. He sees his sisters at his house and Christopher's laughter. He smiles.
"The caramel brownies are in the fridge if you want some," Eddie says, and Sonya and Sasha run to the utility and grab the sweets.
2019-27-Los Angeles
Eddie smiles as he sees his partner and kid playing. After the bombing, Eddie took his hurting partner home with him. He sees the two playing legos.
"What are you doing in the kitchen, Eds?" His partner asks.
"You're so funny, Evan Buckley. Food," Eddie responds. Evan and Chirs laugh. He brings out the caramel brownies to them. Chris squeals in delight at the sweets.
"Who made this? This is good?" Evan asks. Eddie smiles, amused at them, eating the brownies.
2021-29
"Your birthday is September 21, 1992? How come you never told us this?" Lydia's voice calls out to her baby brother. Eddie laughs softly. The fire station is silent.
"Good to see you too, Lydia. How have you been?" Eddie sees Lydia and Patrick coming towards him. Evan looks at him with shock.
"I want yummies. Can you make them for me?" Lydia says. Patrick huffs at the two. Neither answered the other question. Eddie wraps his arm around her waist and leads her upstairs. In the kitchen, Eddie starts to make the caramel brownies. Once done, he gives them to his sister. Eddie smiles at the sounds Lydia is making.
2022-30
"What happened?" Natalie sits with her baby brother at his partner's place as their family cleans up Eddie's house. Evan is heartbroken at the news.
"Mills shot herself. I pulled them out, and they all died. Mills killed herself, and no one told me about it. 'Lie, I'm not okay," Eddie's voice cracks. The man starts to sob again. Natalie looks to his partner.
"Can you help me find therapies for him?" She asks, and Evan pulls out his tablet and researches. After a while, Eddie calms down.
"Can I have some caramel cookies?" Natalie asks, and Eddie smiles. He goes and starts making them. After his breakdown, Eddie's on a LoA. Evan can't help his sister, but he can help his partner. Evan's sister, her partner, and her partner's best friend are in Boston.
2023-31
A year later, Evan's sister, her partner, and her partner's best friend come back. However, Bobby won't let them come back to the 118. Eddie came back a month ago and is doing better. He's making caramel brownies for the team. Evan smiles at the texts that Eddie's family is giving him.
It's not easy, but they're working on healing themselves and each other. Caramel brownies that Eddie makes help.
