The next meeting of the newly reformed D.A. would take place on Friday, October 24th, 1997, at 11 P.M. Hogwarts time.

Neville, Luna, Ginny, and Sally all stood at the front of the Room of Requirement facing the rank and file D.A. members.

"So," called Luna as the meeting convened, "Today we are going to start practicing patronuses. Those of you who were in the D.A. last time around will remember that we had just started on patronuses when the filthy stinking turncoat sold us out."

"Thank goodness the traitor and her bitch crybaby crying machine friend aren't here this time around," said Ernie bluntly.

"The are a few misconceptions about patronuses that we want to go over with you before we start," piped up Ginny.

"First," said Neville seriously, "Patronuses don't necessarily need to be conjured via memories. A strong wish or thought will also do the job. The important thing is that it has to be powerful."

"The other key misconception about patronuses is that they always take the form of animals," explained Sally, "Patronuses can take many forms and I expect to see that tonight."

"With that, let's get busy," said Ginny, "The incantation is Expecto Patronum."

"You must be focused on your memory, wish, or thought," added Luna, "It has to fill you up on the inside."

"Let's see everyone give this a shot," instructed Sally.

Everyone retrieved his or her wand from his or her right hand pocket with his or her right hand and pointed them forward as they all tried to focus on a powerful memory, wish, or thought.

"Expecto Patronum!" cried everyone.

Part of the magic of the Room of Requirement is that it knew EXACTLY what its users needed or wanted. In this moment, everyone's patronuses held so that Neville, Ginny, Luna, and Sally could see and observe their forms.

Interestingly, Tracey's, Daphne's, and Astoria's patronuses all took on the same form. They all took the form of flowers. Lillies to be specific.

Neville, Ginny, Luna, and Susan knew what was up with this at once.

"You three really miss Lily, don't you?" realized Neville.

"We do, " acknowledged Tracey, "But we are also worried about her. Being a muggleborn Slytherin in these times is about the most targetable thing one can be."

"Being worried is natural," piped up Daphne, "If we weren't worried about her, we would be cold and uncaring and would be fake friends. All the same, we do have faith in Lily's ability to defend herself."

"Lily is our motivation to fight," added Astoria, "I still remember when I first met Lily the first time she came to Greengrass Manor. Right from the very beginning she was always so sweet and kind."

"Ironically," remarked Daphne, "You are sweet and kind is one of Lily's pet phrases when referring to friends."

"I was thinking about Lily when I made my patronus," explained Tracey, "I just thought of myself, Daphne, Astoria, and Lily happily sitting in armchairs by the fire in the Slytherin Common Room."

"I was thinking of Lily too," confirmed Daphne, "I focused on a memory of a time when myself, Astoria, Tracey, and Lily all had a naked water balloon fight with silver and green water balloons in the backyard of Greengrass Manor."

"I focused on a wish of seeing Lily again while she runs up to us and hugs all three of us in turn," revealed Astoria, "I think we just have this deep seated desire for our Slytherin Friendship Quartet to be whole again."

"That's actually really sad," rued Ginny, "Do the Pureblood Supremacists even give a shit about three prominent purebloods at Hogwarts having their best friend taken from them because of the muggleborn ban? Of course not. They'd look down on you three for being friends with Lily in the first place. It's gut wrenching how their ideology is tearing sacred bonds apart."

"That's why we have to keep fighting," said Neville encouragingly, "We can't let Voldemort and his Death Eaters win and take over. Somehow, someway, we've got to find a way to stop them."

"I know EXACTLY how Tracey, Daphne, and Astoria feel right now," said Seamus sadly, "I feel the EXACT same way about Dean not being here right now."

Seamus's patronus had one of the weirdest forms in the room. It showed a piece of paper and some pens.

"Oh," realized Neville, "Dean is good at and really likes drawing, but he is a muggleborn more used to paper and pens than parchment and quills."

"It's a tribute to both Dean and his background," puffed out Seamus warmly, "I allowed a memory of Dean coming over to my place for New Year's Eve to fill me up. He loves my fireworks just as I love his artwork. I will fight to take down the assholes and bitches who are keeping Dean from me right now."

Some people still had animal patronuses though.

Lavender's patronus assumed the shape of a rabbit.

"Lavender lost her pet rabbit Binky to a fox a little over four years ago," remembered Parvati solemnly, "I know how devastated Lavender was when she got the news. Lavender has always loved animals."

"Proper animals like rabbits, owls, cats, and unicorns, creatures like that," clarified Lavender, "I could do without dragons, blast ended skewts, acromantula, and the like."

"Grubbly Plank is definitely a better Care of Magical Creatures teacher than Hagrid," exclaimed Parvati bluntly.

"NO, SHE ISN'T!" retorted Neville and Ginny angrily.

Luna and Sally, however, joined Lavender in replying, "Yes, she is."

"Neville and Ginny are both too blinded by their personal affection for Hagrid to see that he is not a good teacher," piped up Luna.

"Anyway," explained Lavender, "I was fixated on my memory of the time my mom brought Binky home and gave him to me."

Meanwhile, Hannah had one the most unique patronuses as her patronus was a yellow and black boxing glove.

"This patronus," said Hannah in a steely determined voice, "Represents my passion to fight. I will fight for my mom, who was taken from me way too soon. Understandably, the quote about there being no worse tragedy than a child losing a parent has hit me differently even since my mom's death. The yellow and black represent the fact that the Abbotts have been a Hufflepuff family for time out of mind."

"You've changed more than any returning member from the last iteration of the D.A. and it's completely understandable," said Neville seriously.

"A loss like that just does something to you," said Luna quietly, "It's a complete loss of innocence while simultaneously being fuel for the desire to fight."

"An important point about patronus," supplied Sally, "Is that they can change over time. It's pretty clear that several of your patronuses are germane to your present day situations. Although it's all very sad, I think hearing each other's stories is also going to help bond us more. Now, let's here about the meaning behind some more of your patronuses."
