The day the Earth stood still

The return of Klatu

Chapter Sixth

After speaking with General Lewis inside the Pentagon and his office on the main level. Helen Benson still had been shaking her head when it came to the news about Klatu. She walked into the main parking lot passing by a number of the Pentagon employees.

Rubbing her eyes she looks up into the grey skies with a threat of rain for the most part. This is when she heard a voice.

"Helen Benson!." while she looked around for the one that was calling her. She will see an older man in his sixties with dark black hair to be somewhat strange to her. He will walk up to the woman in her late fifties. "Mrs. Benson, I am Klute a friend of Klatu staying behind to study Earth further. I was sent a message in order to make contact with you," he tells her with a slight grin.

With a shake of her head, she looked at the six-foot man while giving her slight chills. "I don't understand Klute, why are you here anyways?" she tells him...

Klute will move in closer to her so as not to scare her further. "I am not here to scare you. But rather be sure you're going to be fine with Klatu to be arriving during the next four months." he cried out in his response.

"I still don't understand why Klatu wants to make contact with me in the first place?" While moving slightly away from him and feeling a few droplets of rain. It was when she headed for her vehicle with Klute following. "I need to grab my umbrella before the rain starts to fall," she said harshly to the stranger.

Klute will tell her the following...

"Klatu is coming here to live on Earth and yourself. What he doesn't know Mrs. Benson on whether or not you will have any type of feelings for him?" he poised with the question.

She was beginning to fume at the moment when it came to the question. "How dare you ask me that kind of personal question about Klatu?, he left me alone for 20 years needing to start a whole new life raising my son Bobby now Colonel Robert Benson serving in Isreal and the Gaza region." she exhaled with her lungs.

"I am truly sorry Mrs. Benson. Klatu asked me to check up on you before he arrives back on Earth. Knowing how dangerous it's going to be for him and his crew of three in the sleeping chambers. Klatu will be able to sleep for eight hours on board every day...while the computer system will be able to take the controls." he says with a deep breath into his expanded lungs since living on planet Earth.

Helen had listened to the stranger while the rain was slightly picking up.

"I must go Klute to drive back to my home. Where are you heading?" she asked to catch the alien off guard.

"I am going for a quick drive with my vehicle not too far from here. Can I call you tonight?" he responded.

Thinking about it for a moment, she will tell him by giving him the telephone number. Klute knew the number by heart since he had been keeping a close eye on the woman.

Out in deep space...

Klatu had been moving out of his sleeping chamber to hear an alert from the computer system. Catching his breath with moved out of the chamber region. He ran quickly through the corridors to head for the engineering section. After a moment the computer had fixed the issue with the coolant system.

Turning to the communications controls on the grey walls of the engineering room. "Computer thank you for helping me out with the coolant system."

"You're welcome, Klatu. However, there is something you need to know and that is the fact your enemies from one of the Andromeda systems are following us with using an updated cloaking device." The computer needs to say to Klatu.

"Are you sure computer?" Klatu tells him the question.

"Affirmative!"

"Very well please make new course corrections in order to steer clear of them. We don't need them following us to Earth." he makes the statement with a deep breath and places a hand on his chin while needing to shave...

Klatu headed out of the engineering room to go to his main quarters. But in the meantime, he needed to check on his friends in the sleeping chambers. The computer didn't give him an update on them. So instead he's doing it himself.

SWITCHING GEARS...

Meanwhile on board the cloaked vessel some eight hours behind Klatu and his friends.

Anson aged 65 had been at the controls with his complete bald head. He had volunteered to come along for the flight to try and catch up to Klatu. Their orders were to stop him before reaching Earth along with making contact with Mrs. Helen Benson.

He looked at the time on the main screen to notice that his shift was up and needed to get into his sleeping chamber for ten hours. He was waiting for his relief Galon aged 43 years old and a main computer technician for the military.

He walked into the communications center with a container of his favorite drink in order to keep him awake. "Don't worry Anson you're be able to sleep now," he commented with a slight sarcasm in his tone of voice.

He moved up from his console chair and removed the Bluetooth out of his ears to be given to Galon taking them from his hands.

"Thanks, Anson. How far away are we from Klatu's spacecraft?" he asked taking a peak at the screen.

"Eight-plus hours as we are entering a dense region, Anson. I have a feeling that Klatu is going to be changing course soon!" he advised moving past his friend with a slight yawn...
