The day the Earth stood still

The return of Klatu

Chapter Seven

Even though the computer advised Klatu of the change in position. Klatu had a feeling that his instinct was somewhat right with checking the long-distance radar to find that a vessel was indeed following. At this particular time, the unknown spacecraft was still too far away.

Take a look. He found that an asteroid belt was some hours away from where the spacecraft would be able to hide for now.

Shutting down the computer system for now. Klatu sat down in the engineering room to make the course corrections heading for system 646 asteroid Astor. It was a small asteroid with properties sometimes unknown even to the Andromeda engineering specialists on his home planet.

Exhaling briefly sitting in his brown chair with a secured belt around his waist. Placing the course corrections onto the main screen. Klatu pressed three main buttons to head the spacecraft for the asteroid some three hours before reaching it and hopefully hiding for now from his enemy.

Klatu turned back on the computer system while asking for information on whether or not he was correct with his math.

"Computer can you tell me whether we are heading for the 646 asteroid Astor?" he replied releasing a breath from his lungs.

"Affirmative, Klatu. We will be reaching Astor in three hours, 13 minutes to be exact." the computer tells him to have Klatu somewhat on edge.

He was expelled with the following curse coming out of his mouth. "Son of a bitch!" he cried out moving up from the chair and his safety belt to head for his quarters to sleep a few hours. He asked the computer to take over for now. "Do you understand the order?" he responded with the question.

"Klatu, I understand completely." the computer says while Klatu heads out of the engineering room for his quarters.

General John Lewis had been exhausted after the long meeting at the White House with President Biden and his military advisors. He was glad that it had stopped raining for the most part while entering his military vehicle.

He had been thinking about his meeting with Helen Benson and mostly the information given to her. It was at this moment his cell phone broke his reverie. Answering the phone to the command center some twenty minutes away from the Pentagon.

A moment later there was a beep on his cell phone telling him that someone from the command center was calling with CODE ONE mentioned on the top of his screen.

This code indicated the fact that there was an alert coming from outside of the Hubble telescope and the space station. He pressed his codes into the screen to bring up the face of Colonel James Morrow aged 54 years old working for the special command center for the past eight years.

With his gruff voice have said the following..."What is it Colonel?" he asked looking up into the sky to see a strange vessel flying over him. He had no idea what was going on at the moment until he heard the sirens.

"Sir unknown objects have entered the region and have not fired any weapons as yet. However, we have advised President Biden to head for the bunker with his military advisors." Colonel Morrow exhaled while watching the main large screens in front of him.

Thinking for a split second. "What about the cabinet and the senate members?" he asked solely to the colonel.

Turned to see the rest of the team move into the command center. "They have been notified so far, general. Are you coming to the Command Center?" he asked strongly.

"Yes, I am on my way. I will be there in twenty minutes," he advised with a sad expression.

"Very well, sir. I will let everyone know you're coming." he exhaled ending the communications with the general.

Meanwhile, the strange crafts flying over the Eastern coast have the sirens ablaze throughout six different states.

These vessels have everyone concerned including Mrs. Helen Benson heading for her home and the bunker she has underneath the house. She was listening to her radio on the dashboard wondering what the strange vessels were.

Almost home all of a sudden she was thinking a great deal about Klatu. She knew that her son Bobby had the hardest time adjusting to the loss with Klatu and his robot while heading back out to space.

She continued to hear the klaxons until finally, the alert had ended despite the fact that traffic was snarled.

Stopping to the side of the road while having to be almost home. She will see some of her neighbors moving out of their houses to check the skies for any invaders.

Meanwhile taking in a deep exhale into her lungs. She turned on the engine once again to head on over to her house. No need to head down into the bunker unless the sirens begin once again.

She moved her vehicle while turning off the radio...

Meanwhile arriving at the Command Center...

General John Lewis was stopped at the main security doors with the Sergeant checking his badge letting him inside the center.

All of the security officers including those working in the center were wearing their safe uniforms in case of further attacks by the strange vessels.

With his order coming out of his mouth to have everyone alert. "Anything with the vessels? are they the same spacecraft that belongs to Klatu and the patrol robots?" he needed to know the answers to his questions.

Colonel James Morrow in his uniform turned to face the general trying to give him a proper answer.

"They have moved out of Earth's orbit to head for the moon's location. All bases are on alert at the moment. We weren't able to figure out whether the vessels were the same. I am sure glad that no weapons were used over the main Eastern seaboard, General!" he cried out with his tissue wiping his sweat from the side of his left side of his face.
