The return of Klatu
Chapter Nine
General John Lewis couldn't believe that all four of the saucers on the command center screen exploded by some unknown source.
He shook his head placing the headgear over his head to speak with those of the jets sent out by him and the President of the United States. "Captain what the hell happened?" he asked with his shout loud enough for everyone to hear.
The Captain in his jet after uncovering his eyes will tell him the following. "Sir, we have no idea what happened. We had no indication there was something in the area to caused the explosions of the spaceships. We will stay in the area to investigate further. I suggest you send out teams to search for any broken pieces of the crafts."
General Lewis turned his head to have his employees get the work by calling out the specialty teams to find anything out of the ordinary. "Will do Captain, I will advise the president of this fact." he ended the conversation with the colonel.
Some twenty miles away from the American jets. There was a single spacecraft a member of Klatu's police force of the nations joined.
Sanders a humanoid from one of Ander's planetoids of Andromeda. He looked over at the one robot inactive for the moment in his chamber of the communications center.
Sanders by himself a loner and mainly a terrorist has always looked for trouble and always wanted to see Klatu dead after years. He had sent off a special missile devised by the scientists. He used it to wipe out the four spacecraft from another planetoid.
He had no idea what he was able to gain by destroying the vessels. Though he had known that Klatu was on his way back to Earth after twenty years. Turning off the scanner on the main screen of the communications center.
It was now his sleeping period for which he placed his vessel on automatic while the robot named Tulley Four watched over the center for the next eight hours.
Walking slowly with a limp caused by a recent battle months prior caused damage to the nerve endings of his right leg. Turning off the special beam keeps the robot inside the chamber. He will release the robot Tulley to begin his watch for the most part.
Back at the Washington, D.C. Air Force base
Captain Jemeny Cobbs had landed as with the rest of the jets on runway four. He had a report to be made to General Lewis and the President of the United States. The security film of the explosions will be taken to a secured region of the base.
He took off his helmet to be given to the mechanic taking care of the jet. Captain Cobbs viewed the green jeep with two others waiting to bring the pilots back for the debriefing of the mission they were on.
He looked up into the sky as it was beginning to get dark and he was very tired after getting back from his honeymoon. However, he needed to finish up with his debriefing...
Captain Cobbs and his team had been in debriefing for the past five hours going over every detail of their mission. From what they were told by their superiors is the fact that several pieces of the damaged spaceships were taken to a secured section of the base with the proper authorities to be examined.
Yawning he hoped for the last time of the evening. He had called his wife June telling her that he had finished with the debriefing. He will be picking up food at one of the all-night restaurants in the region.
He walked out into the fresh air with a slight chance of rain for Washington, D.C. His jeep had been waiting for him since he would be driving home only a mile from the base.
Moved into his green jeep with his height. It had been easy for him to get into the driver's seat. He looked down to see a yellow package for which he had no idea just what it might be.
Exhale deeply. Captain Cobbs will pick it up to use his flashlight sitting in the glove department of the jeep. He opens it to see a black and white photo of Klatu with a woman having to be Mrs. Helen Benson from 20 years ago.
He continues to read the report to have him whistling slightly with some of the details from way back when Klatu and his robot had arrived on Earth at that particular time.
Captain Cobbs had heard of Klatu from stories from his superior, and most of all General Lewis along with the president of the United States. This was a closely guarded secret for many years.
"Son of a bitch!" he was wondering why this was given to him in the first place. He grumbled coming out of his mouth. While turning on the engine of the jeep to head off the base and home. But for now, he will place the envelope inside the glove department so that the security officers will not see it.
