Evergrand City
Blue Lanes Street
Tailows chirping and Beautifly gracing the morning dews. Dawn woke bright and early for the day, just as the sun rose above the tall plains. She smiled as she saw various Pokemon frolicking through fields and spotted Buneary and Quilava mingling with a few of the wild Zizagoon and Merill that came around their house. She saw Ash's Camarro approaching their driveway. She got up from her perch on her window and readied her hair, choosing to do a double braid. She went down and greeted her mom with a kiss on the cheek, Joanna smiled knowing that Ash was there. A knock sounded from the door and Dawn went to greet her best friend.
"Good Morning Ash!" She says pulling the older boy into a hug.
Ash chuckled at her enthusiastic greeting, "Good Morning to you too! Hello Joanna!"
"Hi Ash! Thanks you for offering Dawn a ride to school." Says the blue haired mother smiling at them.
Ash nods, "It's no problem. Are you ready Dawn? Got everything you need?"
"I've got everything I need. And am ready to go. Mom, are you sure it's alright that I leave Mamoswine here?" Dawn says meeting her mother's eyes.
"He'll be fine dear." Joanna says kissing Dawn on her head.
Off they went, Dawn calling Buneary and Quilava back into their Pokeballs while Piplup went into the back seat with Pikachu, which made both of their Trainers smile liking the fact their starters got along so well. Suppose it had something to do with that idea that some Pokemon eventually mirror the traits of their trainers. Ash parked the car once they arrived in the Campus, they went into the High School building together. They saw Serena waiting by the entrance and walked towards her.
They greeted her happily, "Hey Serena!"
She looked to the direction she herd their voices and smiled,."Good Morning to you both! I didn't expect you to come at the same time."
"Yeah well, my mom invited Ash to have dinner in our house last night. Delia was also with us, before they left Ash offered me to ride with him." Dawn explained smiling at the raven haired boy.
Serena grinned at the two, "That's so you Ash. Always out to help."
Ash chuckled, "Now I wouldn't me if I didn't at least offer her a ride this morning. Oh, and I just found out you'll be sharing your dorm room with her Serena."
The honey blonde girl looked surprised, "That's great news! We'll get to know each other more. Plus, May and Leaf are also sharing the dorm with us."
"I'm sharing a dorm with Richie, Kenny, and Drew. Seems like a lively bunch." Ash says grinning.
Dawn giggles, "At least we're sharing our dorms with friendly faces. I'd shudder to think what it's like sharing a dorm with Ursula or Paul!"
Both Ash and Serena cringed at the idea. Everyone in their friend group hated those two and their group of troublemakers. They are both protective of the younger and newer students in the school because of those people, they'd assist anyone who were accosted by either group in case anything got too unsavory. That's was why during their Seventh Grade Serena had proposed that the student council enlist the older students to be part of a group of protectors for the young and new students.
Thus, The Student Defense Squad was made.
There was a new captain appointed everytime a new batch of seniors took the reins. This year's Captain was Gary Oak, and his second in command was Richie. They had eyes and ears around the school in case any fights and cases of bullying were seen or heard. Ash, Leaf, May and Drew were the Main Hall Monitors for the Squad, and they had two others under them either Juniors or Sophomores. So far Ash caught Trip getting rather close and personal with a Sophomore girl, and Carrie harassing one of the 8th grade boys as well.
"Hey there everyone! What's going on?" Greeted Leaf who was walking towards them with Gary.
Gary grinned teasingly, "Looks like Ashy-boy drove Dawn to school."
Ash rolled his eyes at Gary's teasing, "What kind of best friend would I be if I didn't offer her a ride to school?"
"Best friend eh?" Says Leaf with a raised brow chuckling.
"Sure! There's no one who knows me better then Ash does and vise versa. Plus there was no way I can say to no him." Dawn says shrugging her shoulders.
Another voice enter the fray, "Hey all. Where's the party hanging?"
"No parties yet Zoey! We're just teasing the future couple." Says Serena laughing.
Ash and Dawn shared a look not denying Serena's pronouncement of their future status. Both knew that they'd end up together, they've had feelings for each other since their separate trips in Jonto. They had one of those unique relationships, a friendship that could go beyond it's boundaries. There definitely was something between them, and it was something magical.
"Let's leave our Pokemon in the play area before heading for our homeroom classes." Gary suggested walking to the gardens.
Leaf smiles walking behind him, "That's a great Idea."
The rest following them. Dawn and Ash were behind the group whispering between each other. Zoey, May and Serena were in front of them looking at Zoey's phone. The red head shoed the two girls the photo she took yesterday; May was surprised by the clear comfort Pikachu was in and how close the mouse was Dawn in a little amount of time, while Serena just looked on fondly seeing the clear mirror of how close Ash was to Dawn.
When both girls to towards her she gave them a fond smile, "Sometimes Pokemon can exhibit similar traits to that of their trainers. This is a great example, this is exactly how close Dawn and Ash are, the fact that Pikachu took an instant liking to her isn't that much of a surprise to me."
"Mm." Replied May in thought smiling.
"You've got a point there." Added the red head.
Serena giggled, "I've always had a feeling Ash and Dawn would end up together. Especially when I used to have a crush on Ash and he actually addressed me on it one time, that was during ninth grade. The fact that he was not at all clueless about all the gestures I was throwing his way was a surprise, but looking back... it shouldn't have been. He actually told me that he had feelings for someone else, Ash was always an up front kind of guy he wasn't one to lead people on."
"You're right about that one. I remember that one time during our journey around Hoenn a girl tried to flirt with him, and boy did I really think he fell for her charms but the next time I looked, the girl looked rather shamed and embarrassed." Says May after s while.
They finally reached the gardens and freed their Pokemon; May had her Skitty and Combuskin, Serena her Fennikin and Panchamp. Dawn brought Piplup, Buneary, and Quilava. Leaf brought Leafeon, Zoey had her Glameow, Gary brought Arcanine and Umbreon, Kenny had his Prinplup and Slakoth, Drew had Roselea and Beautifly, and Ash had Pikachu, Typlosion, and Wartortle.
"Ash I didn't know you had a Typlosion." Kenny comments curiously.
Ash grins shrugging, "He's one of my strongest Jonto Pokemon. But then I've got all the Jonto Starters with me as well."
"Really?! It's rare to get all the regional starters." Says Zoey in shock.
"Well Ash somehow has luck not every trainer has. He encounters regional starters in the wild or in some random places." Gary informs them chuckling.oo,xzoozxo
Dawn giggles taking Ash's arm, "I've always known he has something special about him."
May shakes her head at Dawn's antics chuckling, "I recall that he caught his Sceptile near Fortree City. After we helped it save it's home from rotting."
Just then Wartortle came up to Ash and greeted his trainer with a fist bump, wearing his signature black glasses. Causing Ash to chuckle and return his greeting.
"Good Morning Wartortle! How are ya buddy?" Greeted the back haired teen.
The turtle Pokemon smiled, "War! Wartortle. War."
"Glad to hear it buddy." Ash responds much to the confusion of Kenny and Zoey.
Serena noticed this and giggled, "Ash has always had this ability to understand Pokemon better then most people."
"It's because of my Aura Abilities. Aura Guardians have a special skill that allows them understand what Pokemon are saying, when one is powerful enough they can actually expand their aura to allow others around them to understand Pokemon as well." Ash explains smiling at the group.
Kenny then asked, "What's up with the Black Glasses though? Isn't the item used to enhance dark type attacks."
"Yes it is. When I first met Squirtle on my journey around Kanto he was a leader of a troublesome group called The Squirtle Squad. They would cause trouble to the town we were staying in at the time so we helped Officer Jenny catch them, but then a fire broke lose and they were the only ones who could stop it, so I asked them to help out it was hard a first since they refused but eventually I got my point across and they helped. Wartortle wanted to battle me after the fire was put out and I agreed to his request, Pikachu won and he agreed to be my Pokemon. Though I also agreed to leave him with Officer Jenny later on so he could train with his Squad at the Fire Department. The glasses are something he wore when he was a gang leader, but I told him he could keep it." Ash explained smiling fondly at the memory.
"His Bite attack deals twice the damage with those glasses on." Gary points out wincing.
"You're telling us. His Tododile also has some sharp teeth as well! But somehow , he isn't bothered by the pain." Says Leaf laughing.
The warning bell rang signaling to the group that it was time for Homeroom. They went their separate ways, promising to meet up for lunch. Ash gave Dawn one last hug before watching her go down the hall with May, Leaf and Gary went ahead leaving Serena with the black haired elite trainer. She saw his eyes sparkle as they followed the blue haired girl, she smiled placing a hand on the boy's shoulder getting his attention.
"You love her don't you Ash?" Serena asked wanting to see if he'll deny the fact.
Ash grinned feeling his cheeks warm, "Yeah I do. Just waiting for the right time to confess, y'know."
"Mm." The honey blonde haired girl said in thought.
Ash then asked, "Hey, have you thought about when Homecoming should be?"
"Sure have, I was planing to call meeting later after school. We need people for the setup crew, and to help with making the decorations." Serena says as they made thier way into the room.
Ash grins, "You thinking what I thinking."
"Haha, you read my mind Ash! I was thinking about recruiting May, Zoey, and Dawn for the decor. The theme is Autumn Haze." Serena informs him.
Ash nods looking interested, "Interesting theme. So browns, reds, and oranges for a color scheme, right?"
"That's the idea. Since Homecoming will be on the Second Saturday of October." She says.
She knew who he going to take to the dance, after all you don't have to be an Alakazam to guess who his date was gonna be. Serena could only smile, knowing who she wanted to go with to the Dance if he didn't ask her then she'd go ahead and ask him. Yes, she wanted to go with Richie. She wondered if Gary would ask Leaf, but knowing the brown haired boy... he'd probably be a jerk about until Leaf would give in and say yes. As for May and Drew, those two weren't as bad as the brown haired Seniors when it came to expressing their feelings but they were both dense as if there was a wall between them! This drove Serena crazy sometimes, she was just glad Kenny finally took Zoey off the market after about a year and half of denial from both ends and some major sweat drop moments as well. She considered herself and Dawn lucky that Richie and Ash lacked that denseness that other boys their ages possessed.
As classes progressed homeroom went into first period, which they still shared with each other it was Social Studies. The class ran for two hours, which meant that lunch break was next. The bell rang signaling the end of their second period and the start of lunch time. They were on their way to the Lunch hall when Ash's PokeNav rang, it was May! The Hoenn native look winded and worried.
Ash was all business once he saw the look on her face, "What happened May?"
"Paul accosted us after class and started coming at Dawn and she handled him well enough but then he became aggressive, asked Trip and Daimen to join in..." May trained off as Zoey came into view.
"Drew and Kenny were able to pull them off but then Paul dragged her off to the gardens!" The redhead continued as calmly as she could.
Serena and Leaf gasped but had determined looks on their faces, while Gary looked ready for some action. But everyone look towards the raven haired boy, who's aura was seeping out of him. They felt his anger and worry, but it was his determination to go to Dawn that came through the most. He nods to himself, then looks at each of them.
His voice was firm yet gentle, "Alright. I'm going after them. Gary, Richie, and Leaf go with Serena and meet up with May and Zoey at the nurse's office."
With that he disappeared in a flash of Blue using his Aura travel to get him to Dawn as quick as he can. The three other Seniors look to one another and then at Serena's PoleNav (as Ash had shut his upon teleporting, making May transfer the call), Zoey had a worried gaze, but looked relieved.
Zoey spoke, "Is Ash gonna be okay fighting Paul alone?"
"You should be worried about Paul, because I am sure when Ash is done with him, he'll wish he's never messed with Dawn." Says Gary a somber tone in his voice.
May nods, " His Aura manifested upon hearing Dawn was in trouble. Paul chose the wrong girl to mess with for sure."
"We'll see you all in the clinic." Says Serena breathing a long sigh.
The call ended and the three seniors walked towards the clinic, wondering what was happening on Ash's end.
Meanwhile, Ash teleported to the tree where he and Dawn had hung out at lunch time yesterday. With his Aura vision he saw Paul pushing Dawn up a wall, knowing what the purple haired trainer was going to do he ran with his enhanced speed , with the added velocity his impact on Paul was enough to make other boy hit the floor nursing what looked to be a busted arm. Dawn, who's eyes were closed opened them to see her best friend glowing in blue outline. Though she had tears in her azure eyes, she had a look disgust and a spark of loathing in them as well all directed the sick excuse of trash on the ground. Seeing Ash angered on her behalf made her feel all warm and fuzzy inside, she could feel his aura encompassing her in soothing waves of safety and assurance. His thoughts of her safety powered his anger, she hugged him from behind wanting to feel the warmth of his aura, she felt him relax into her arms. She smiled at the fact that she could make him let go like this, she did not want him to get in trouble but she knew that he was just trying to protect her. She felt him tense up slightly and saw that Paul had stood up and was approaching them with a clenched fist. She let Ash go knowing he could handle Paul.
The purple haired teen advanced throwing a jab at Ash, who swiftly sidestepped and retaliated with a straight hit right between his eyes. He was knocked out. Ash turned to Dawn and spread his arms, she stepped into them and wrapped hers around his torso while he did the same around her waist.
"Are you alright Dawnie?" Ash asked worriedly.
Dawn nodded against his chest, "No need to worry. He didn't get to do anything."
"But that's when I worry the most. I know you can handle yourself, but everyone has their limits." Ash says smiling slightly.
Dawn smiles back as well, "I know you do and I'm thankful you care about me so much Ash. How did you know about this?"
"May called me when we were on our way to the Cafeteria. Speaking of... we need to meet them at the clinic so we can drop him there. Then we can grab lunch." Ash says huffing the purple haired boy's body over his shoulder.
Dawn giggled at this, "Your carrying him as if he is a sack of Potatoes."
"Yeah, well he is at this rate." Ash says chuckling.
On they walked, when they got to their destination they saw their friends. The ladies went to Dawn and gave her hugs to comfort her, while the guys helped Ash with the bully. The girl waited until the guys went out of the door, Gary leading the charge grinning while Ash looked amused.
"What's so funny Ash?" Asked Dawn curiously.
The raven haired teen shrugged, "I just told them what happened outside. Gary was just happy I got to hit Paul."
"I wanted a go at him myself. What he was about to do to Dawn is unforgivable." Leaf says clenching her fist in simmering anger.
Dawn smiled siding up to Ash giving his arm a hug, "I'm just glad Ash got there in time. Thanks again by the way."
"No problem. I hope he thinks twice about doing this again." Ash says his eyes darkening lips turning downward.
Drew shakes his head, "I don't think he will. Him and his crew won't stop until they get what they want. But that doesn't mean we won't stand against them."
Kenny nods in agreement, "That's right! We won't allow acts like those to happen without punishment as a consequence. Nurse Joy said to bring Dawn in to check of she's really fine."
"I'll bring her to Nurse Joy Kenny. You guys have to grab some lunch before classes start. Dawn and I will manage, my mom packed me some lunch today anyway." Ash tells them smiling
Leaf, May, Zoey, and Serena shared a brief glance and smiled at one another, while Gary and Drew just shrugged it off causing Kenny to roll his eyes at the two blind idiots. Richie got held up at the faculty by Mr. Mizune for a talk, but he would have slapped the back of their heads for their cluelessness. Ash looked towards Gary and Drew and shook his head, when will they ever learn? Maybe he'll give Brock a call and have him talk some sense into these two, the man finally settled down during his Sophomore year with Lucy the Battle Frontier's Pike Queen. They went their separate ways, with Ash bringing Dawn inside the clinic and calling Nurse Joy. Dawn looked slightly nervous as she spotted the pink haired nurse, Ash gave her a supportive smile.
"Thank you Mr. Ketchum you may wait in the dining area. Ms. Berlitz come with me." Instructed the nurse who smiled at the two.
Ash gave Dawn a light hug and said, "No need to worry. You'll be fine and we'll eat here before heading to class."
"Thanks Ash." She tells him softly as she joined Nurse Joy in the clinic area.
While Nurse Joy was talking and checking up with Dawn. Ash was preparing their Meal, his mom had packed up Tonkastu with some rice. So he decided to make some soup to go along with the food, he had some ingredients for ramen in his cooking kit. He had beef broth fresh from the fridge, noodles, a few pieces of nori and sliced beef. He began by turning on the stove top, then placing a medium sized sauce pan on the flame pouring the broth in slowly. He added on the meat, veggies, four fish cakes, he boiled the eggs separately.
Her voice caused him to look up from the pot he was intently surveying, "Mm, Ramen! I see Delia matd Tonkastu for lunch."
"Yeah. I thought Ramen would be a nice pair for it. It's almost done, how was your talk with Nurse Joy?" He responds smiling as she sat at the table.
She smiled, "She asked if I was alright and a few other questions. She did have a few colorful words to say about Paul. But she told me to be careful around him."
"He tried to make a pass at May and Zoey two years back but Gary and Richie were able to stop him. Mr. Brandon has been trying to keep control of him since that incident but it seems Paul just can't be held off. Mr. Brandon tries his best though, as a father it must be really hard on him to treat Paul as just another student." He tells her transferring the now finished Ramen into a soup bowl.
She nods solemnly, "You're right about that. I can't imagine what it would be like if my mom was teaching here, she'd be like a whole other person."
"Hehe, well we're lucky our mother's aren't teaching us. But Brandon isn't so bad, he's actually a great Trainer. He can easily be in the Elite Four if he wanted, but he favors the Battle Pyramid as the Battle Frontier has looser schedules compared to the Elite Four." Ash says smiling as he placed the bowl down and sat himself across of her.
Dawn shook her head giggling, "Yeah. I had friend named Barry back in Sinnoh who's father also heads one of the facilities of the Battle Frontier there. But I heard the Kanto Battle Frontier is a lot tougher. Don't you have to get an invite to be able to take on the Frontier?"
"Yeah. I was invited just after my win in the Evergrand Conference. I went through it before school started, those videos were quiet recent our friend Brock must've sent those videos." He tells her before placing food on his plate.
She smiles her eyes twinkling, "Are you excited for the battles this Friday? I can't wait to see you battle in real life."
"I am excited for the battles this Friday. If I get matched up with Paul then I'll show him how strong I am." He tells a determined look in his eyes.
She smiles knowing that he was true to his words in that he would show the purple haired teen what he was made of. She knew that he would beat Paul soundly, she had that much faith in him. As they ate and conversed time passes and it was time for another class. They threw away the trash and washed the dishes before leaving the Clinic thanking Nurse Joy for letting them eat there. Ash dropped Dawn off to her classroom while he walked to his next class.
It was an uneventful afternoon so far, by the end of their classes though everyone was excited! The match ups for the Battles were being put up in the main bulletin board and they were all curious as who would be battling who. Dawn had run out of her classroom ready to meet Ash by the main hall. She had a smile on her face, her class with Drew and Richie was fun. She saw Ash waving to her and she sped up her pace meeting him by the main desk.
"Hey Ash! Where are the others?" She greeted him with a tight hug.
Ash chuckled returning her gesture, "Serena and Leaf are on their way, the guys are leading the others to the announcement board outside. May and Zoey are getting here as well."
"I wonder who you are going to go against. I hope it's Paul." She tells him smiling impishly at the end.
He chuckles keeping an arm on her shoulder, "If it is Paul then I know which of my Pokemon I'm gonna go with. I'll be sure to flatten him."
"Don't get too overconfident though." She says patting his arm.
He smiles pulling her closer, "No need to worry Dawn. I've learned from my mistakes, overconfidence was one of the issues I had to overcome when I started out as a trainer."
"Good to know." She responds.
They four pairs of eyes watching them the witches looked at Dawn with envy, Usual was looking rather green at how close the blue haired girl was to the guy of her obsession. Miette on the other hand was thinking about their relationship, she had overheard the pair's conversation with Serena and the others earlier.
"Maybe Serena was right about their bond being unbreakable. Ursula might not be able to drive them apart with any plans she could think of." Miette thought looking at to the black haired girl.
Ursula smirked, "Maybe I might just join forces with Paul. He wants to take Berlitz away from Ash. We might just come an understanding."
Miette's eyes widened, this girl was getting desperate! - an alliance with the bad boy who also wants the blue haired beauty spelled trouble. The blue haired Kalos girl was really thinking that Ursula was taking it too far, one look at Carrie and she knew the other girl thought the same. They needed to warn Serena fast. They didn't even want to know what Ursula was planning to do, but they knew her obsession fueled mind would lead her to some very extreme thoughts.
"We've gotta go Ursula, our parents just got here. See you tomorrow." Carrie says suddenly giving Miette a look.
She nods and then says, "Yeah. My dad and I have got places to go. See you tomorrow."
"Well alright. I'll see you girls tomorrow then." Ursula responds waving them off.
Once they were out her ear shot Carrie spoke, "I think we should tell Serena about this plan. This is going too far, I mean sure she's crazy about him but bringing Paul into it..."
"Even I draw the line at that. Paul's has an unhealthy liking for Dawn as well and would do anything to get her away from Ash." Miette says worriedly.
Carrie shakes her head, "We should report this for sure! Besides I'm getting sick of being Ursula's lapdog now a days. She's being such a... I can't even call her that because it'd be an insult to female dogs."
"I know what you mean Car. I don't even know why I started hanging around her. I used to be really close with Serena back in Kalos but after she became a Showcase Queen my Jealousy reared it's ugly head and I ended our friendship." Miette admits shamefully.
Carrie nods, "I know what you mean. May and I were so close when we were little! Then she started her journey and became a Top Coordinator we drifted apart. I wanna be friend with her again."
"I'd love to be friends again Carrie! Honestly, I never even hated you in the first place. I just never thought you'd become this kind of person." Said a voice from behind them.
They turned to see May and Zoey.
Zoey then says, "And I'm sure Serena will be happy to rekindle your friendship as well Miette."
"I am not so sure about that. I've been rather horrid to everyone one of you fo the past few years.." Miette says facing the floor guilt festering inside her.
The girl felt a hand on her shoulder she looked up to see May giving her a compassionate smile.
The brunette smiled, "The important thing is that you want to make amends. Serena is not the type of person to hold grudges, she'll forgive you just like I don't hold any ill will against Carrie."
"But h-how can you not hold any ill will towards us for doing you guys wrong?!" Carrie asks in shock.
Zoey smiled sharing a look with May, "Well we don't want to grow up bitter towards anyone who does us wrong. And Ash taught us that it is better to forgive then to carry resentment to those who have done us wrong. Plus, we knew that most of the bullying came from Ursula, you were just misguided by her."
"You guys are something else. Anyone would have held our actions against us but your group sees it differently." Carrie says hugging May, thankful that the brunette had forgiven her and wanted to reconcile their friendship.
Zoey smiled, "Now what was that about Ursula going to Paul?"
"Ursula is getting desperate! She's planning to join forces with Paul just to get Ash away from Dawn." Miette informs them.
Someone behind them scoffs, "Like that's ever gonna happen. Nothing is ever gonna pull those two apart."
The two girls turned to see Leaf and Serena there with the boys in tow.
Richie nods in agreement, "From what I've seen of those two they are truly inseparable. And who ever tries to pull them apart will pay the consequences."
"No kidding. There will be no rock left standing if Paul's dares to touch Dawn again. I wanted to beat the guy up myself but Ash got there faster then lightning." Leaf says growling as she remembered what the purple haired boy almost did to Dawn.
Gary thinks for a moment before speak, "I'd like so see them try to break the duo's bond."
Everyone looked towards him , the two girls surprised, while the others contemplated this. Leaf, Serena, May, and Zoey agreed with Gary knowing that no matter what the witch and the thug will do would never work. Richie and Kenny share a look also thinking the same as the girls.
It was Carry who voiced her concern, "Y-you want them to try? B-but why? I would've have thought you guys were more in line to stop this from happening."
"Normally we would. But Paul and Ursula need to be shown that they're are messing with something far greater then just mere friendship. Ash and Dawn are bound by something deeper." Says Leaf thinking deeply.
Miette looked at them, "What do you guys mean by that?"
"It is known is this school that Ash as aura powers, you all have seen it in action on certain occasions. But what people don't know is that Dawn possesses something similar. We've all know this since we were kids. You see Leaf, Gary, Ash, Dawn, and I were told that our families were part of the Great Alliance." Serena explained.
Carrie's eyes widened in realization, "Of course! The Ketchum Clan were Aura Guardians, while Clan Berlitz were empaths."
"Glad so see you still pay attention in History class Carrie. Every century a descendant either clan would meet and form a bond with each other. Sometimes they would fall in love but that wasn't because of the bond. Ash's Uncle Riley saw his bond with Dawn when they were kids, over time their bond grew stronger." May says after a thought.
The group thought after an air of silence settled upon them. They would see this play out and help out when needed...
Alright a few more chapter to go! Ursula makes a deal with the devil so to speak. Will they succeed? Or will their plans crash and burn?
Thank you all for your support and comments in these fanfics. I have loved writing these so much. Until next time.
