The opening begins with a ruined and fiery landscape, with destruction and rubble everywhere. Two familiar people stood among it, one carrying the other on their shoulder. As we pan past a wrecked pillar, we zoom in on the two people showing their backs, and the duo is revealed to be Natsu and Lucy. We pan past another wrecked pillar, and we see a close-up shot of Lucy battered but wearing a determined expression as she stares into the horizon. We pan past another pillar and now see a close-up of Natsu, who is just as battered and determined while staring in the same direction as Lucy.

Next, we change to an aerial shot of the two from above, slowly zooming away from the two. Then, we see Natsu and Lucy from the back again at ground level, slowly panning upward to the sky as explosions appear around them while the Fairy Tail flag propped against a piece of rubble flaps about in the wind. The skies are dark red while numerous shadows of large creatures fill them.

Then, we sharply pull out, and the scene is revealed to be inside the center of the Eclipse Gate as the Fairy Tail main title fades into view as two blue ripples shimmer behind it, followed by the black Fairy Tail symbol appearing in the middle white light shines behind it. It shines brightly, turning everything white.

Now, we see the mysterious woman in black close up from her left side, a single tear trickling down her cheek with a starry background. We zoom back a little to a medium shot, and the woman disappears before Lucy appears from the right side, looking doubtful at first before putting on a brave expression as she looks upward.

Next, we see Sting, Rogue, Lector, and Frosh in a park. Sting is on his haunches, smirking, while Lector is jumping up eagerly, pumping up a fist, and cheering. Frosh is also happy, while Rogue appears to be standing there confused. The scene is revealed to be a memory as Sting appears on the right side, his expression dark as he opens his eyes, looking towards us, his color nothing but gray. Then, the scene zooms out, shrinking to the left side, turning Gray while the color returns to Sting.

Now, we see Kagura and Milliana amongst some rubble. Kagura is standing up with her Archenemy in hand, resolute, while Milliana is simply sitting looking crestfallen. In addition, an image of Jellal, Ultear, and Meredy is seen on the right side.

Next, we switch to Arcadios and Yukino with the painting of the Dragon King Festival in the background. Both are walking forward with resolute expressions, determined to have their mission succeed.

Now, we see a young woman standing on the balcony and staring up at the white full moon before a headshot of her fades in from the right as she looks toward us. She is revealed to have long emerald green hair and wearing royal jewelry, showing her status.

Next, we see a team of Fairy Tail wizards in an underground cavern. The team comprises Wendy, Mira, Lisanna, Natsu, Willy, Lucy, and Yukino, with the cats in front.

In that same scene, the team is confronted by five individuals who attack them immediately. Two of them, a woman with long pink hair and clothes and a woman with black hair in twin tails, unleash their attacks, a flurry of red paper and a storm of vines. Wendy jumps in and uses her Sky Dragon Roar to cancel them out.

From the five, a man with a bottle in his mouth attacks Wendy with a fist laced with a strange liquid, but Pantherlily, in his battle form, jumps in and blocks his path, swinging his sword, causing the two to clash.

The fourth of the five, a bald man with beady eyes and thinning black hair wearing a red open vest and blue shorts, raises a flag, causing the ground to erupt with magma and sending it towards Lucy and Yukino's direction, forcing the two to jump up and avoid it, while summoning their spirits. Yukino summons Pices, the twin fish, while Lucy summons Loke, aka Leo.

Natsu and Willy gun straight for the fifth member of the five enemies, a masked man donned in a cloak while wielding two scythes, igniting his fist flames. The male slices at Natsu, but the fire dragon slayer dodges, countering with a fiery kick, only for it to be blocked by the male using his scythes. Willy tries to help him, but the other woman in a black cloak suddenly cuts him from behind, causing him to gasp while Mira and the exceeds watch in shock.

Next, we see Laxus, Gray, Erza, Juvia, and Gajeel, in that order, setting off for battle while Mavis, sharing their determination, is seen in the back of them, pointing forward as if she's giving them the order to attack.

Erza, Kagura, and Minerva all charge at each other in an open area in Crocus, eventually colliding before breaking away from each other. Kagura attacks Erza, slicing with her Archenemy, and Erza counters with her sword, the two locking swords and glaring grimly at each other. However, Minerva breaks them apart using her magic.

We see Gray in his usual stance, preparing to use his Ice-Make Magic, ready to seize victory. After that, we see Natsu amidst a sea of flames, with his face hidden and only an angry snarl showing.

Then, we see Laxus squaring off against Orga, both of their bodies radiating with their respective lightning magic before a headshot of Jura fades in, the wizard saint smiling in amusement.

Next, we see the other members of Fairy Tail, including Tu Chi, Sieri, and Lapis, standing in their box in the arena, cheering. Then, Millianna winks at us while making paws with her hands. She jumps back, throwing out her arms happily before all the exceeds appear around her.

As we rapidly pan up from his feet to his head, we now see Gajeel, his body radiating in magic and shadows, his skin black and his eyes pupilless as he stares ominously at us, grinning. We also see someone else smirking ominously, but only from the chin to the neck, it growing to the beat of the song on the first Hey. After that, a pair of eyes snap open, bright green and violet on the second Hey to the beat of the music.

We briefly see Willy standing amongst a sea of water tinged in violet as Mira rushes toward him, frantically trying to stop him. Then, we see Gray and Juvia standing outside by the canal in Crocus back to back, looking at one another, smiling. But as we zoom out, Juvia, in typical fashion, glomps onto Gray, much to his displeasure. We also see Sherria and Lyon staring at the two, Lyon visibly annoyed because of his crush on Juvia, and Sherria jealous because of Lyon staring at Juvia.

After that, we see numerous soldiers standing outside Mercurius, with Darton leading them while panning to the right. Then, we see Mato, Yajima, and Chapati in their commentator's box, looking eager as they move to the beat of the opening song, Mato jumping up, Yajima nodding his head, and Chapati pumping his fists up.

We see the Fairy Tail flag flapping in the wind while the sky is red and cloudy once more. Then, we watch as Natsu walks bravely towards a large, shadowy, dragon-like creature as we zoom out, the flames of the destruction overtaking the screen.

Na na na na na na na Oh
Na na na na na Hey Hey
Na na na na (Hey) na na na (Oh)

Finally, Natsu is seen comforting Lucy, who is on the brink of tears, his hand resting on her head. Then, he gently nuzzles his forehead against hers, and when he does, Lucy's eyes overflow with tears as the scene fades into a faraway shot of them, the sky clear and the moon shining brightly as the opening ends.

Chapter 220

Palace of Perdition

The following day, everyone who witnessed everything at Mercurius that night met up at the Bar Sun for a meeting. The core members of the Fairy Tail team were there, too. We took the time to explain everything that had happened the previous night.

"What the hell?!" Laxus spoke, clearly shocked.

"Lucy's been taken into custody?!" Erza spoke with concern.

Makarov hummed. "To think that they'd believe she'd be involved in this secret project. It's utterly ridiculous."

"And not just her. Yukino, too," I added. "I wish we could have done something to help them, but we couldn't with all those guards around, and we could've gotten our magic drained by that Eclipse thing like Natsu if we fought back."

"And to get Lucy back, we just have to win the games, but that's only if his highness "allows" it?" Laxus snarked. "That sound about right?"

"Personally, I have a hard time believing anything that Darton guy told us," Gray agreed.

"I feel the same," nodded Juvia.

"Seriously! What's the deal with that guy?" Elfman complained. "I get the feeling he's only screwing with us just because we're winning the games!"

Natsu, who was tied to a post, then roared. "Then, are we supposed to put up with this crap from those jerks?! Untie me, and I'll go up there and get her right now!"

"Please, no violence," Carla chided.

"Natsu, you need to calm down," Lisanna told him sternly. "The last time you charged in without a plan, you ended up drained of your magic and unconscious."

"Besides, it'd be us against the whole Army, you know," advised Happy.

"Master, what should we do then?" asked Erza.

Makarov stroked his chin in thought. "We can't afford to take any reckless action, especially against the kingdom," he said slowly. "And they surely wouldn't want any word to spread about how they mistreated one of its citizens. However, we should consider Lucy, a hostage until this Eclipse Project of theirs is called off."

"Damn it. Talk about annoying," huffed Laxus.

"You'll get no argument from me on that one," I agreed with a scowl. "Those guys have got us by the tail like a fish out of water."

"There's one thing I don't get, though," Gajeel said. "If all of us know about their dirty little secret, why did they just let us walk away scott-free?"

"Now that you mention it, it does seem odd," said Lisanna. "If it was me, I wouldn't even let us get away after what we've learned."

"You expect them to make any kind of sense?!" Natsu huffed.

"Maybe it was for testifying against Arcadios on a later date. He was their primary target," Lily suggested.

"They'd still be risking their secret getting out," pointed out Carla.

"There's also the chance that they felt it couldn't be kept secret any longer," surmised Erza.

"Yeah, but it's still pretty weird," said Gray. "Nobody would have ever found out about it."

"I'm not so sure about that," Mira spoke out. "Think about it. You're all first place in the Grand Magic Games. Not to mention, Willy is the champion of the Crocus Fighter's Tournament. It'd be pretty suspicious if all of you didn't show up for the final match tomorrow, much less arrested."

"Hey, yeah. Good point, Sis," realized Elfman.

"I'd imagine the Kingdom doesn't want to get on the bad side of every wizard guild in the country," added Juvia.

"Not just them. The people watching the games as well," I said. "If something like that happened, it would look pretty bad for the king, and I can't even imagine the negative feedback and unrest that would cause. Of course, I could be overthinking it."

"Basically, although Lucy's capture may seem unjust," said Erza. "It doesn't go against the royal army's sense of justice."

At that moment, Natsu ripped himself free from the ropes while roaring loudly with irritation. "Then, we gotta stop flapping our gums and do something!"

Just as he did, Makarov made his hand grow into an immense-sized fist and lazily sent it, slamming down right on top of Natsu with a thunderous slam, stopping him instantly.

"Simmer down already," he sighed in annoyance. He then gave his attention to the rest of us. "A member of our family has been taken against her will. Believe me, we all want justice. That said, we can't just charge in needlessly as always. But Fairy Tail isn't cowardly enough to take this sitting down, either! Royal Army or not!"

Makarov then began making a plan.

July 6th soon came.

That morning, we all put Makarov's plan into action.

First, Natsu would be swapped out for Juvia. This was not only because he would do so otherwise if left to his own devices, but it would lead Darton to suspect him to still be out after getting his magic drained, should he be watching the games. While the public would be busy watching the games and Fairy Tail compete, an assembled rescue team would go to Mercurius and rescue Lucy.

Natsu, Wendy, Lisanna, Mira, me, and the cats were chosen. Originally, Lisanna wasn't in the plan to come, but she insisted and wouldn't back down. Elfman wanted to come along, too, but Makarov insisted he stay behind despite his enthusiasm. But not wanting him to feel left out, I asked him to keep an eye on Sieri and Lapis, to protect them with his life like a real man, and to pass the word along to Tu Chi.

"Don't you worry, Willy!" he said. "I'll protect them with my life like a real man! You can count on me!"

From there, our group raced to Mercurius while everyone else stayed at Dormus Flau. As we ran through the empty streets, we could hear the sound of fireworks in the distance.

"Sounds like the final round's about to start," said Mira.

"Perfect!" said Natsu. "That means we've got the perfect chance!"

"I'll admit that sending us to rescue Lucy while everyone's distracted by the games is pretty smart," said Lily. "But the master's two-pronged strategy hardly covers all the bases."

"It may not be ironclad, but it's the best he could manage with such little time," said Carla.

"Plus, it's the only strategy we got going right now," I said as I jogged. "Plus, even if we did win the games, there's a chance they could end up keeping Lucy and Yukino locked up, and it would have been all for nothing."

"Erza and the others will be doing everything they can to win the games," said Lisanna. "So we have to do whatever it takes to save Lucy."

"But how are we going to sneak into the castle without getting noticed?" asked Wendy.

"It won't be easy," said LIsanna. "Last time we did, we could only go into the garden because we asked nicely, and I doubt it'll work this time."

"Don't you worry about that," Happy said with confidence. "Good old Happy's got it covered."

"Somehow, that doesn't inspire much confidence," Carla spoke doubtfully. "How do we know your idea won't be absurd and ridiculous?"

Happy flashed a sneaky grin, still sure of himself. "You just wait and see."

The next thing I knew, Happy had us wearing disguises, which were all quite ridiculous.

Natsu was wearing a full-body bear suit, Wendy a Mato costume, Mira a bikini with a poofy feathery tail and a hockey mask, Lisanna in a maid outfit, and for me, a button-down with slim pants and dog ears with a nose, and tail.

"Voila! These disguises are perfect!" Happy spoke proudly. "Tell me this plan isn't foolproof!"

"It's hard to believe any kind of plan to be foolproof with outfits like those," said Lily wryly.

"Are you kidding me, Happy?" I couldn't help but deadpan. "We're trying to sneak into the palace, not attract more attention."

"Not to mention… these are a little embarrassing," Lisanna spoke shyly.

"Don't worry, it's OK," said Mira. "Happy's got the right idea. We just need to tweak his plan a little, and I know how to do just that."

"All right! Way to go, Mira!" Natsu spoke eagerly.

I was also grateful, but I couldn't help but feel less than convinced due to Mira being dressed as she was.

NO POV

Outside of the palace gate, two soldiers stood guard in front of them. But while the two were doing their job, they couldn't help but feel bored and restless.

"Man, this is the pits," one complained. "I wasn't even supposed to be here today."

"I get you," said the second. "But it is what it is. Even though I wish I was stationed over at the arena. That way, I could watch the games and do my job, too."

Then, they were approached by two more guards.

One had Natsu and Wendy by the arms, and the other had Lisanna slung over his shoulder.

"Halt! What's your business here?!" demanded the first guard. "And… who are those people?"

"Intruders," replied the guard holding Natsu and Wendy. "Most likely, they were here to spring that girl from Fairy Tail."

"A couple of kids like them?" puzzled the first guard. "They're from Fairy Tail?"

"It was a bit difficult, but we managed to catch them before they tried anything," said the guard carrying Lisanna. "They may look like children, but they were quite formidable."

Lisanna thrashed around. "Hey! Put me down, you big brute!" she cried out defiantly. "And I'm not a little kid! I'll have you know I'm almost eighteen!"

"You keep quiet," ordered the guard carrying her. "And for the record, that's pretty much the age range of being a kid."

"Anyway, His Majesty and Defense Minister Darton are out on business," said the guard holding the dragon slayers. "What would you like us to do with them?"

"Eh, just lock 'em up, and we'll sort it out later," shrugged the first guard.

"Understood."

The two guards were about to continue past the gates but were stopped.

"Hey, what are you guys doing? The prison cells are that way," pointed out the first guard as he motioned toward a tunnel leading further inside the palace.

"Oh! Right! Apologies!" said the guard carrying Lisanna. "All these courtyards are starting to look the same."

"No kidding," agreed the guard holding the dragon slayers.

And they walked away.

WILLY'S POV

Mira's idea was for her and me to disguise ourselves as guards and pretend we had captured Natsu, Lucy, and Lisanna while the cats hid in our clothes. Thanks to that, we successfully snuck inside the palace without any trouble. Once we were inside, we took off our disguises.

"Great job, Mira. And you too, Willy," whispered Wendy.

"I'm glad we managed to get inside," I said. "But Lisanna, did you honestly have to go as far as to call me a brute?"

"Hey, I was just getting into character," said Lisanna.

"Goodness, it was stuffy in there," complained Carla.

"No kidding," rasped Lily. "It was almost like a sauna."

"All right then. Now, all we have to do is find Lucy and Yukino," said Natsu. "Willy? Do your stuff."

I answered with a nod, and I placed my hand on the floor and used my Aqua Sense.

In my mind, I could see various blue shapes representing everyone who happened to be inside the castle. Then, I saw two blue shapes in the lower levels, one of whose magic power I recognized quickly.

"Found them!" I spoke while opening my eyes. "They're a few floors down inside one of the cells!"

"Then, let's go!" said Natsu.

With Natsu and me leading our party, we stealthily but quickly ran to where the jail cells were. As we trekked deeper, everything became pretty dark, with only some torches for light. But we pressed on, searching through all the empty cells until we soon stopped at a particular one. Inside, we saw Lucy sleeping in a bed and Yukino sitting on the floor, sleeping also.

"Lucy!" Natsu whisper-yelled. "Wake up!"

Upon hearing him, Lucy's eyes blinked open, but she quickly woke up when she saw us. She was so happy that she shot out of bed and rushed to the bars.

"Everyone! Boy, am I happy to see you!" she cried. "Hurry up and-!"

Natsu quickly covered her mouth with a hand, shushing her.

"It's good to see that you two are all right," smiled Carla. "But let's try and keep it down so we don't get caught."

"How did you all make it past the guards?" asked Yukino.

"My natural charisma," winked Natsu.

"You mean Mira and Happy's plan," I corrected. "And my Aqua Sense."

While appearing to ignore my comment, Natsu used his magic to generate heat in his hands to heat up the metal bars. Then, using his brute strength, he pried them apart, setting both celestial wizards free. Mira then presented Lucy with a change of clothes, and she, Lisanna, Wendy, and Yukino covered her up with a sheet to change into them.

"Now, Lily, no peeking," warned Mira sternly. "You too, Willy."

"Wait, why us specifically?!" I spoke in indignant confusion.

"We weren't even going to!" Lily chimed in crossly.

Carla cleared her throat. "Now that we've rescued the girls, we need to figure out a way out of this hellhole."

"We should find a route that will keep us hidden from the castle's sentry," said Lily.

"Hey, hold on a second!" Lucy spoke out from behind the sheet. "Those royal goons still have all of our keys, no thanks to Scar-nose! I swear, as soon as I find him, I'll give him a good kick in the fanny!"

"Maybe they've got them locked up in another room for confiscated items somewhere," I wondered. "If there is, we can search for it along with a safe route out of the castle."

"You think you can find them with your Aqua Sense?" asked Lisanna.

"I can try," I told her. "If there are some guards stationed close to it."

But as I was about to place my hand on the floor to use my Aqua Sense again, I stopped, realizing something.

"Well? What are you waiting for, Willy?" I heard Lucy say. "Something wrong?"

"I just realized something," I said. "Has anyone noticed that things have gone too well for us thus far?"

"Now that you mention it, I didn't see any guards around when we snuck in other than the ones outside," murmured Wendy.

"Aw, come on, Willy. You're worrying too much," Natsu spoke aloofly. "It's because we were able to sneak in like ninjas!"

"Maybe so, but what if I'm not?" I asked. "What if we just ended up walking straight into a - ."

Then, the ground began to rumble beneath our feet. Almost immediately, I jumped up, spreading my wings in time for the floor beneath us to collapse. While I stayed airborne, everyone else fell down straight into a pit of darkness.

"Everyone!" I yelled.

I tried swooping down to try and save them, but as quickly as I did, the floor closed back up, resulting in me planting my face square on it. As I briefly held my nose in pain, I let out a curse and punched the floor, trying to get it open.

"Damn it! Why do I always have to be right?!"

It was then that I heard a female's voice.

"Well done. You managed to avoid that trap like I thought you would."

I looked around, glancing at the area. Then, a lacrimatron appeared from above, showing the image of a young woman. She had long back-length emerald green hair and dark green eyes. She also had a silver jeweled necklace around her neck and a gold and jeweled tiara on her head.

Upon seeing her, I glared. "Who are you?!" I snarled.

"You are speaking to Hisui E. Fiore," the woman replied. "Princess of the Fiore Kingdom."

Upon hearing that, I couldn't help but be surprised. "The princess?!" I murmured.

"That's right. And you're Willy Falconer of the Fairy Tail guild," Hisui said. "The new champion of the Crocus Fighter's Tournament, known as Triton, King of the Waters, and the Traitor of the Balam Alliance."

After hearing that name, I couldn't help but relent, but I stood firm, plucking up courage. "Tell me, what did you do with my friends?" I asked. "And what did you mean when you said I avoided that trap like you thought?"

"Just as I said, I predicted you would avoid the trap. I'm aware that you can sense other magic powers from a great distance via a spell," said Hisui. "But as for the others, they've been placed in their permanent holding cell. It's a place where criminals can have their final taste of freedom, where they have no hope of escaping, and doubt those other criminal scum will fare much better in there. It's called the Palace of Perdition, the city of death."

I stared at the woman, not liking the sound of the name. "So, you planned this whole thing out from the get-go," I said. "You knew that we would come to rescue Lucy and Yukino, and you even went as far as to separate me from the others so they wouldn't have a way of getting out. Isn't that right?"

"Correct," said Hisui.

"Then, you should know that Lucy and Yukino are innocent!" I said. "The only reason they were arrested in the first place was because Arcadios was trying to get them involved with that Eclipse Project! Lucy didn't even want to participate in the first place!"

"Nevertheless, they're considered accessories to Arcadios's crimes and will be punished as much," Hisui spoke. "And due to the actions with the rest of Fairy Tail, they have been sentenced to the ultimate punishment, death!"

My eyes widened in horror at this. "No! You can't do that!" I yelled. "I'm telling you, you're making a big mistake! Please, listen to what I'm saying!"

"I won't listen to your lies, criminal!" Hisui spoke coldly. "If I were you, I would be more concerned about myself, Willy Falconer. Not that anything will make a difference."

My hands grew clammy, and my heart began to pound as I glared daggers at the princess. But I swallowed back what rage I felt and kept my cool.

"Princess Hisui, with all due respect, I implore you to reconsider," I pleaded with a shaking voice. "I understand that Lucy and Yukino are guilty in the eyes of the law, and breaking into your castle was also wrong, but surely you understand this isn't right! Please, I implore you, let them go!"

Hisui stared at me in silence while I stared back at her.

Then, she responded. "I'm aware of the circumstances Darton told me about, and I can very easily overturn my judgment. However, you can only choose one of your friends to go free."

"Say what?!" I couldn't help but shout.

"You heard me," said Hisui. "In fact, I'm giving you one of two options. You can choose one of your friends for me to let go, and I will do so, or if you can't choose, you can offer yourself up for the Palace of Perdition and join them. You can choose only one. That's all I can give you."

At first, I stared at her in shock at such a sadistic choice. But it didn't take me long for me to decide.

"Well? What have you decided?" asked Hisui.

"The answer should be obvious!" I spoke with determination. "If you ain't letting my friends go, you might as well throw me down in that lousy palace with them!"

Hisui blinked as a look of surprise crossed her face.

"What? Did you think I would just up and leave?" I snarked. "That I would take the coward's way out and just leave? Any other man would jump at the chance to save themselves given your offer, but I ain't like other people! I'd rather stare at death right in the face than abandon the people I care about! And that goes for all of them! Besides, since you claim that no one's been able to escape your little palace, then me and my friends will take great pleasure in defying those odds!"

Hisui couldn't speak.

"What are you waiting for? You said you would send me down to where the others went, right?" I challenged. "Go on and do it. Or are you waiting for me to change my mind? Because I'm not."

At that moment, the lacrimatron disappeared. And just like before, the floor rumbled beneath my feet before collapsing. But this time, I let myself fall, plunging into the darkness.

I went down, down, down until I could see the bottom of the floor. I used Aqua Jet to slow my descent before landing safely. I then glanced at my surroundings only to find a haunting sight.

I found myself standing in an underground space lit with some green lights. Aside from the various rocks, numerous skeletons and bones lay all over the place, some propped against the walls while others lay on the floor. I couldn't help but feel sickened.

"Oh, man. The princess wasn't kidding when she said this place was called the city of death. Forget about this place being people's last chance for freedom. It's more like hell and despair. At least with the dragon graveyard Gajeel found, the dragon skeletons were a little more majestic."

I then turned my eyes forward towards further inside.

"Well, I guess I better get busy finding the others and the exit to this place. They're probably already searching for a way out. I just hope they're all OK and haven't run into any trouble."

And with my goal now set, I took off into a full sprint, beginning my search for Natsu and his party.

NO POV

No sooner than Willy left, a strange plant slowly sprouted up from behind a stalagmite.

It was a flower with thorns lining its stem and four petals colored white with purple tips. When it was grown enough, he blossomed, opening itself up, revealing a single eye that leered in Willy's direction as his form gradually shrank into the distance.

I just want to take the time to say, thank you very much for being with me for so long!

Also, I want to wish you all a very merry and happy holiday!
