Miranda cleared her throat a little as she took her seat in the front row of Erin's show at Fashion Week 2016. No matter how much she had demanded to be allowed to have a sneak peek of the collection that the woman would be showing, Erin had been quite adamant that her show be a complete surprise to the woman and the world at large. Miffed though she was at that reaction, Miranda had decided that she had to show up and support her protégé, as the rest of the fashion world was calling Erin and Snowflake Designs. That suited her just fine, since Erin was so talented, but she still thought that should afford her special considerations.
"Sorry I'm late, I had an interview that just would not end," Andrea said as she took a seat next to Miranda, smoothing her skirt down her thighs as she picked up the show notes. "There's no name for this show."
"I know. Erin informed me that we won't know what the show is called until the very end, though we might recognize it from the first outfit that walks down the runway."
"Interesting." Andrea slipped the piece of paper into her bag before scooting a little closer to Miranda. Though they were both all right with being associated together at events that were couple oriented, they were still circumspect about how they interacted with each other outside of those spaces. Moments later, the lights in the room came down and the music for the show started. Miranda felt herself relax a little, a smile spreading across her lips, when she heard the sounds of her favorite piece of Schumann begin to play. Looking anxiously towards the place where the first model would appear, Miranda reached out for Andrea's hand and clasped it tightly.
A small gasp escaped her lips when she saw herself, only elevated to a different plane, walk down the runway. In one look, Erin had captured her essence and translated it to high fashion in a way that was not ridiculous or fawning. Simply put, Erin had distilled the style that Miranda preferred and showcased it in a different light, and Miranda honestly felt flattered by being the muse for this show. Every single look that walked was better than the last, and Miranda found herself wondering what the final look would be.
The moment the model wearing the dress stepped out from behind the curtain, Miranda felt her breath stolen away. The garment that she was wearing was exquisite, and somehow, Miranda knew that the model wearing it had her exact measurements. "That's your engagement party dress. She hasn't quite finished mine yet."
"You knew?" Miranda whispered, and Andrea nodded, giving her an enigmatic smile. "That is not fair in the least."
"I had to surprise you somehow." Miranda and Andrea began to applaud as the entire collection walked the runway once more, Erin walking arm in arm with the final model. As she passed them, Erin gave her a small wink, and Miranda nodded, knowing that they would indeed be meeting backstage as soon as the lights came back up. It took forever to actually start moving in that direction, since everyone wanted to talk to her about the fact that the collection was so obviously based on her. She answered with as short of answers as she could get away with, all while trying to get to the backstage. Finally, they were allowed in, and Miranda let out a small breath of relief as she looked around for Erin.
"Miranda!"
She looked over to see Alex smiling and waving her over, and she made a beeline for the woman as she dragged Andrea behind her. "Were you aware of the focus of this show?"
"Perhaps. Erin wanted to do something that would honor and thank you for directing focus onto her fashion house. And your engagement party dress is also her gift to you."
"It turned out so much better than I imagined it would," Andrea said as she hugged Alex. "And you both are coming next Friday evening, yes?"
"Of course, I just have to make certain that Erin gets your dress finished by then."
"I have complete faith in her."
Erin approached them, a warm smile on her lips. "I'm glad that someone has faith in me, Andy." Turning to look at Erin, she bit her lower lip before taking a deep breath. "I know, I sprang this on you, but did you like the show?"
"It was exquisite. And of course, we're going to feature it in Runway, since it deserves to be in the spotlight for a little longer. And I might even allow a picture or two from our party to accompany the feature, since I'll be wearing that dress you made for me."
"Excellent. I hope you don't mind, but Emily has already penned you in to come to my studio tomorrow during your lunch hour so that I can do some fitting adjustments on you. I'm thinking that I got it right, since Andy sent me all the measurements that I required, but I'm certain there are some quirks that I'll have to work out. And you'll get to see Andy's dress, too."
Miranda nodded as she carefully watched Erin rest her hand on Alex's chest, her left hand spreading out as she rested her head on Alex's shoulder. The lights caught on a large amethyst ring on Erin's hand, and she met her friend's eye expectantly. "When did that happen?"
"I think the same night yours did. You just never noticed the ring because you were too focused on watching my face when we lunched. Or you only had eyes for your Andrea." Erin added a slightly teasing tone to her voice, and Miranda rolled her eyes a little as they made their way over to the engagement dress. Miranda looked at it critically, but could find nothing with it that she could dislike. From the color to the cut, it was as if Erin had looked deep into Miranda's soul and conjured up a fantasy for her. "Of course, our dresses won't be quite so ostentatious, since you and Andrea will be the stars of the evening. Though I did make certain that everything would coordinate. And before you ask, no, I will not be designing your wedding dress. That is far beyond my level of expertise, and the next sixth months will be devoted to making my own sort of magic in a dress, since Alex and I aren't going for a traditional wedding ceremony this time around. I have the clout to create a fantasy for us, and that is exactly what I'm going to do."
"I cannot wait to see what you come up with, because this is exquisite," Miranda said as she picked up a piece of the fabric, rubbing it between her fingers as she looked at Andrea. "I suppose that we should give them an appropriate wedding gift, since Erin was so kind to do this for us."
"I was thinking the same thing, Miranda. The first thing that we have to do, however, is take them out to supper. I have reservations at Il Forno in an hour. That should give you enough time to get everything settled here, yes?"
Erin nodded as she rested her head on Alex's shoulder. "I just need to pack up the dresses and then have them brought back to the studio. My assistant will take care of them once they're back." Miranda nodded as she followed in the direction that Erin beckoned, knowing that this moment in time would be one of the happiest in her life, until the next moment that she had with Andrea. And she had Erin to thank for bringing them back together with her design skills and the mystery that had originally surrounded Snowflake Designs.
