Hey all! Got this chapter done fast than I thought. The next chapter will have Alice in it and I haven't been able to decide yet if Marnie should go to Volterra or not. I'd love to hear your thoughts if she should or not. Until next time, I really hope you enjoy this chapter!
"Bella." The strange man replied, before in a split second he was only a few feet away from Bella and I. I jumped a bit. His red eyes flickering towards me for just a moment, before looking back to Bella.
Red eyes. Just like the red haired woman.
"I didn't expect to find you here." He said, walking the other way a bit, before continuing to speak. "I went to visit the Cullens, but the house is empty." He said, spreading his arms out a bit, as a sort of questioning.
I watched him intently. I had such a bad feeling from this guy. Vampires. Leah's voice echoed in my head again. I shook my head. I was being stupid. There was no way. It had to be something else. Leah didn't really explain much about what she knew of the legends of vampires so I literally had nothing to go on. But he knew the Cullen's and they were supposedly vampires. Was that enough to go on?
"I'm surprised they left you behind. Weren't you sort of a pet of theirs?" He asked, curiously.
He was almost circling us, like we were his prey. My head suddenly snapped to look at Bella as she replied to him.
"Yeah, you could say that." She said, nodding her head.
"Do the Cullen's visit often?" He asked, now smiling like he had already known the answer to his question but wanted to hear it from Bella. His eyes briefly met mine, his smile getting bigger. I could feel myself shaking in fear. How the hell did Bella get herself wrapped into all of this?
Bella was silent for several seconds, just staring at the man, Laurent. She then gasped and stepped back a bit, almost like she had seen something that shocked her.
"Yeah, absolutely all the time." She said, trying to lie but I even could tell she was lying. God she sucked at this. This guy I'm sure wasn't dumb. "I'll tell them, that you stopped by." She added, smiling at him.
Laurent began circling us again, knowing he had the upper hand. "I probably shouldn't tell.. Edward about this, cause he's pretty protective." She added lamely.
Laurent spread out his arms again. "But he's far away, isn't he?" He asked her, again knowing very well of the answer.
"Why are you here?" Bella finally asked.
"I came as a favor to Victoria." He admitted.
Who was Victoria?
"She asked me to see if you were still under the protection of the Cullen's. Victoria feels it's only fair to kill Edward's mate given he killed hers. An eye for an eye." He said, almost talking like he was trying to get Bella to see where he was coming from.
"Edward would know who did it." Bella stammered out, and he'd come after you." She threatened.
Laurent shook his head. "I don't think he will. After all, how much could you mean to him if he left you here unprotected." He pointed out.
He suddenly sighed and put his head down. "Victoria won't be happy about me killing you." He said, now looking back up at Bella. "But I can't help myself. You and your sister." He cut off, now staring intently at me. "Are so mouth watering." He said, softly.
I knew my eyes and mouth were wide open. I was beyond shocked and terrified. I wouldn't let him harm Bella though, even if I had to die. He would not lay a finger on her. I didn't even realize at that moment he knew for sure that I was Bella's sister, I just knew I needed to protect her.
"Please don't." Bella stuttered out. "You.. you helped us." She continued to stutter.
Suddenly Laurent was right in front of Bella, making me and Bella both gasp.
"Shh, shh, shh. Don't be afraid, I'm doing you a kindness." He said, running his hands over Bella's hair.
"Don't you touch her." I yelled at him, making him snap his head at me. He smiled. "Don't worry little one, I'll take care of you the same. Neither of you will feel a thing as I will make it quick." He promised.
I felt sick to my stomach. He was going to kill us. I couldn't stand here and let this happen knowing that there quite literally was something I could do. He turned back to Bella, obviously wanting to kill her first. I narrowed my eyes, focusing very hard on him until suddenly he was thrown back with a force. I gasped, as I became lightheaded. My God he was so heavy! It was like he weighed 500 pounds.
Almost as quickly as he was thrown back, he landed gracefully on his feet. His eyes quickly landed on my wobbly self and he growled loudly. I knew instantly he must have been running at me but literally seconds before he reached me, he stopped. His head snapped, looking over to the trees. I was confused because I didn't see anything, until I heard a branch snap under the weight of something big. It was wolves. The same wolves that I had seen in the middle of the road were slowly creeping up, like they knew Laurent would hear them and stop advancing on me.
"I don't believe it." Laurent whispered.
The wolves began to growl and only seconds later Laurent had turned and run the other way, honestly shocking me. I noticed there was an extra wolf from what I counted the last time. As soon as he began to run they all started chasing him except for the one new wolf. A big brown wolf stared intently at Bella and I. It seemed rather intelligent. They all did.
Suddenly the brown wolf ran off with the rest of the wolves. Laurent still running, before he quickly stopped and turned around backhanding the black wolf, making me gasp. Though it was almost like it didn't phase him as he got right back up.
Suddenly Bella grabbed my arm and pulled me away from the ongoing fight. I didn't fight with her even though I was actually worried about the wolves. I felt my lungs burning as Bella and I ran as fast as we could back to her truck. It had taken us almost an hour to walk, but with how fast we were running we were back at her truck in 20 minutes.
We both flung ourselves into the safety of the truck and sped home. Once home I noticed that Harry Clearwater's car was in the driveway, which meant that our dad was home. Bella wasted no time and flinging herself out of the truck and running inside, I tried to quickly follow her but she ran.
I was right behind her when she ran into the kitchen. "Dad, I saw them." She said, breathlessly.
"What's the matter?" Our dad asked, looking over both Bella and I.
"In the woods. They are not bears." She said, making my mouth drop.
"What do you mean in the woods? Bella, what the hell were you two doing out in the woods.
"They're wolves." She said again. "I mean they're like huge wolves."
I looked over at Harry, he looked very worried. "Are you sure about that Bella?" He asked her, almost slowly.
Bella went to say yeah but I cut her off. "They weren't wolves dad. I was there. They were just really big bears. I mean we saw them from a distance as they were chasing after something. But it was most definitely bears." I said, almost too fast.
Bella looked at me with a wild and confused expression, and our dad looked at us both like we had lost our marbles, which I think we quite literally had.
"Well." My dad said slowly, looking up at Harry, who was currently looking at me with a grateful look. Which meant that he knew. What Leah had told me was true. Vampires and werewolves were real. "Do you feel like going hunting? Get some of your guys together?" Dad asked him, making Harry look back to him.
"Uh yeah, sure. I'll just uh.. call them." He said, walking out of the kitchen but not before patting my shoulder.
I could feel Bella staring at me. I just ignored her though and ran off to my room but she was right behind me.
I went to close my bedroom door but Bella was surprisingly quick to stop me.
"Why the hell did you lie?" She asked me, raising her voice.
"Shh, shut up and get in here." I hissed, grabbing her arm and yanking her inside quickly shutting my door.
I sighed and ran my hand through my hair. "I lied because the last thing those wolves need is people hunting them when they just quite literally saved our lives, or did you forget that?" I asked her angrily. "Also speaking of lying why don't you start telling me the truth." I snapped, making her flinch.
She looked down and said nothing which made me even more angry. My room began to shake, making Bella's head snap up. She knew the damage had already been done and she now had no choice.
Before she would say it though I said it for her, pissed off with how slow she was being.
"That guy was a vampire, the red haired woman is a vampire and the Cullen's are vampires. I said angrily, while Bella looked at me in shock.
"How did you… wait the red haired woman?" She asked, looking as if she was going to be sick. "Victoria." Was all she whispered.
I looked at her worried now. "Who is she? Please, you need to tell me. We could be in danger right now and you keeping these secrets is just making it worse. We could have died today Isabella." I said, making her flinch at the use of her full name. She knew the only time I used her full name was when I was truly angry.
She began chewing on her bottom lip viciously and playing with her hands. I was trying so hard to stay calm but she was making it so hard. I shook my head. I needed to really work on my temper.
She took a deep breath. I had really thought that I was ready for her to tell me everything, but boy was I completely wrong. I actually now wished I wouldn't have pried so hard for the information.
Bella watched me when she was finished explaining it all, waiting in anticipation for me to say something, anything.
I racked my brain. About to tell her what I thought about the wolves and that Victoria had quite literally been stalking me when we heard the soft clink of rocks hitting Bella's window next door. We both frowned at each other and ran to her room. Bella ran to her window, where Jacob the asshat Black stood below.
"Back up, I'm coming up." He said, before quite literally parkouring up our house. Once inside the window he looked at Bella with sympathy as he came closer to her. "Look, Bella I'm sorry." He said, in almost a whisper before he and Bella looked at me, as if almost forgetting I too was in the room.
I threw my hands up and left Bella's room. I didn't have to really know everything that was going on. Oh who was I kidding. I was severely nosey and I would definitely ask Bella about it later.
I quickly realized how tense and quite literally gross I was so I decided to take a shower. I thought it would make me relax but I was still really jittery. I didn't know what else to do to lessen it so I just paced around my room for some time, my head swimming with thoughts going a mile a minute. Vampires were real, I was pretty sure that the werewolves were real. I stopped pacing. Leah had said that some of the Quileute's were descended from wolves. So the wolves that I saw had to be certain Quileute's but which ones. I gasped. It was Sam and Jacob was one too. It wasn't a cult Sam started. They were just werewolves!
I ran to Bella's room. At that point Jacob was no longer there. "Werewolves!" I practically yelled, before I tried to start whispering cause of our dad.
Bella looked at me like I was insane. "What?"
"Jacob and Sam are werewolves Bella." I said, trying not to speak so quickly but failing. "They're the ones who saved us from that vampire dude, I know it!"
Bella's eyes widened, something seemed to immediately click in them, and she went to push past me to leave the room, but I grabbed her arm. She tried to yank her arm out of my grip but I held on tightly.
"Marnie, let go." She hissed.
"No, where do you think you're going? I really hope it's not to confront wolf boy this late at night." I asked her, even though I knew that's exactly what she planned on doing.
She gave me an angry look. "If he can come here in the middle of the night to apologize, then I can go to him and ask questions."
I rolled my eyes. "There is literally a homicidal vampire running around that I now believe probably wants to kill us both. You're not going anywhere. If you could also turn into a giant wolf I just might not care but since you honey are a squishy human you're not going anywhere until tomorrow." I said, putting my hands on my hips.
Bella glared at me for several moments, before sighing. "Fine. But I'm going over to his house tomorrow." She said finally.
"Only if I can go too. I have some questions to ask them."
Bella shook her head. "No."
I nodded my head and sucked in a deep breath. "Da…" I started to yell, before Bella slapped her hand against my mouth.
"Alright, fine!" She hissed, making me smile beneath her hand. She slowly took her hand off of my mouth.
She stared at me for a moment, almost scrutinizing me. "You're not coming with me." She stated.
"Oh yes I am. I have questions damn it." I argued, making her finally roll her eyes.
"Fine, but we're going early." She said, stiffly.
I began to grin. "I'll be up bright and early then."
Bella crossed her arms and huffed, before she sat on her bed. "You're so annoying." She mumbled.
"Funny, I say the same thing about you." I said, smiling. "Anyway I'm going back to my room. Try not to let anymore supernatural beings into your room tonight." I said, quickly giving her the peace sign and leaving her room before she could reply.
I knew she was glaring at me as I left. I could literally feel it. Once I got back to my room I immediately climbed into my bed. My head already buzzing with thoughts. I wondered what all the wolves knew about the red haired vampire. Was she still alive? Was the male vampire alive? I also had to tell Bella that she was in our house. With everything going on I kept forgetting. I hadn't had anymore encounters with her since that one night coming home from Leah's. Maybe they had killed her. I'd hope so.
It took me almost an hour before I could shut my brain off and fall asleep.
The next morning I almost didn't wake up but a loud thump woke me up. I rubbed my eyes and sat up. Where did that thump come from? Suddenly I heard a creak in the hallway and I froze. No please tell me it wasn't that woman. What was her name? Victoria? I silently got out of bed and creeped over to my door. I tried to quietly open it but of course it creaked, making me flinch. I looked out into the hallway to see Bella whirl around when she heard my door open, wide eyes like she'd just been caught, which she had. She was trying to sneak out without me.
I glared at her. "Where are you going already dressed without me?" I asked her, knowing very well where she was going.
She stomped her foot. "Hurry up and get dressed." She snapped, but it just made me smirk. I ran back into my room, threw on some black skinny jeans, a coral cropped tank and a dark pink, black and white flannel. I quickly put on some socks and grabbed my black ankle boots before I ran out of my room and ran downstairs to see Bella waiting impatiently for me. I grinned at her while she huffed and opened the door to go to her truck.
It was silent the whole way to Jacobs. Clearly Bella was mad I was coming but I wasn't sure why. I bit my lip wanting to ask but decided against it.
Once we made it to Jacobs she parked her truck and jumped out. I scrambled out to catch up with her. I hoped she didn't take too long here I needed to talk to Sam. I wasn't sure if Jacob really knew what I wanted to know.
Bella gave three rough knocks on the front door. It took Billy a few moments to answer the door. He frowned at seeing Bella and I.
"I need to see him." Bella pleaded.
Billy gave her a hard look. "He isn't in."
Bella looked at him for several moments, not saying anything before she shook her head. "I'm sorry but I have to see him." She said, pushing past Billy.
I gasped at her rudeness. "Bella!" I yelled after her. She ignored me though as she quickly went to Jacobs room.
I looked at Billy who clearly looked shocked. "Billy I'm so sorry, I don't know what is going on with her."
Billy shook his head he looked exasperated.
Suddenly Bella was storming back out the door.
"What the hell is going on with you?" I yelled after her, before noticing that she was stalking towards Sam and several others.
I ran after her, while Billy shut the door. Obviously not wanting in this.
"What the hell did you do to him?" Bella yelled at the newcomers.
"What did we do to him? What did he tell you?" One of them asked angrily.
"Nothing. He tells me nothing because he's scared of you." Bella continued yelling.
The unknown guy began to laugh at Bella, until she slapped him, making me gasp. He stopped laughing quickly and began shaking.
"Paul." Sam warned. "Calm down." He tried demanding but Paul wasn't listening.
It was so sudden I almost didn't know what was happening when Paul was gone and in his place was a giant dark silver wolf. The same wolf who stared at me that first night I had left Leah's.
I stood stuck in my spot while Bella booked it back towards Billy's. "Run! Jake run!" She screamed. Jake? I turned around once I was no longer frozen to see Jacob running towards Paul. Suddenly leaping into the air Jacob transformed into a giant wolf midair, while Bella fell to the ground.
Snarls and growls filled the air as Paul and Jacob were attacking each other. The fight ended up being pushed into the forest near by.
"Take Bella and Marnie to Emily's." Sam said, before running off after Paul and Jacob.
I watched as Bella shakily got up from the ground. I gave her a cold stare. She was really pissing me off with how she was acting. This wasn't my sister. This was someone else and I hated her.
Someone cleared their throat, making me jump a bit. I turned around.
"Uh you good?" The unknown guy asked.
I just nodded my head, making him clear his throat. "Alright, uh let's go then?" He asked. Again I just nodded my head and followed him. Bella was already in the truck, making me grimace.
"I'll ride in the truck bed." I said flatly, shocking them all.
Without waiting for anyone to say anything I climbed into the back. One of the other unknown guys jumped into the back with me. It was again silent the entire ride. It wasn't long before we pulled up to a small house. The guy in the back with me watched as I climbed out. One of the suddenly stopped Bella, not even looking at me.
"Also don't stare at Emily, it bugs Sam." He warned her, making Bella frown.
"Why would I stare?" She asked, but not getting an answer.
Bella looked over at me, but I ignored her and walked past her. Was I being a bitch? Maybe. Did I care? Not at the moment no. I couldn't stand how she was acting anymore. Entitled.
Once we stepped inside I gave a big whiff. It smelled like blueberries and it made me hungry.
I looked around the cozy looking home. There was a woman whose back was turned to us, as as was putting something onto a plate. "You guys hungry? Like I have to ask." She finally turned around. She was a beautiful woman. I soon noticed how the left side of her face was turned down, with three long angry red scars pulling her eye and mouth down.
She smiled a half smile. "Who are they?" She asked curiously.
"Bella Swan who else? That's her sister Marnie." The guy who had been in the back of the truck with me said, almost forgetting to tell Emily who I was.
I gave a small wave and a quiet hello while Bella did nor said nothing.
"So you're the vampire girl." Emily said, looking over Bella.
Bella nodded her head. "So you're the wolf girl." She replied.
"I guess I am. Well I'm engaged to one." She said, smiling. She then looked at me and her eyes softened. "You're friends with Leah aren't you?" She asked me.
I shuffled a bit and nodded my head. "I am yeah." I said awkwardly.
"How is she doing?" She asked, now frowning.
I bit my lip. "She's doing really good actually." I tried to say smoothly.
Emily smiled but didn't look convinced. We both knew she was still hurting really badly from the betrayal.
"Come on Em, can we have the muffins now?" One of the guys whined. "I'm starving." He whined, making Emily rolled her eyes.
She grabbed the plate with the muffins. The boys reached for it, but Emily brought it back towards her. "Ladies first." She chastised, making them groan.
"Marnie, Bella. Would either of you like a blueberry muffin?" She asked kindly.
I smiled a little and nodded my head, before grabbing a muffin. Bella grabbed one too.
"Thank you." Both Bella and I said at the same time.
"Now you can have some muffins." Emily said, laying the plate onto the table, the boys immediately grabbing a muffin, one of them literally inhaling it, trying to grab another one before Emily smacked his hand. "Save some for your brothers Embry." She scolded.
Embry didn't even flinch. He just grinned and grabbed the muffin while Emily shook her head.
"Leave it to Jacob to get around Sam's gag order." Emily said suddenly.
Bella went to speak up but I beat her to it.
"Jacob actually didn't tell Bella. I did." I said, as I bit into my muffin.
It got so quiet you could hear a pin drop. They were all looking at me now.
"How?" Embry asked me.
I bit my lip. Maybe I shouldn't have said that. I didn't want to get Leah in trouble. But then again she didn't know any better. She didn't even believe it.
I opened my mouth to speak but the front door suddenly opened. I looked over to see that it was Sam. He made a beeline to Emily while the other guys were still staring at me, making me look down. I no longer felt hungry. Sam hugged Emily and you could hear him giving her kisses, making one of the boys gag.
It was only moments before Jacob and Paul walked in as well, laughing with each other like they hadn't just been trying to bite each others heads off. Literally.
Jacob stopped and smiled at Bella when he saw her. Paul looked over at her too but smirked. "Sorry." He told her, before going to sit at the table to grab a muffin.
Jacob didn't say anything but was still looking at Bella, nodding his head to the door, indicating he wanted them to talk outside.
I shuffled uncomfortably. I should have stayed home. Once Bella and Jacob had left the house it was almost eerily quiet. Until. "So. Are you going to tell us how you knew?" The guys name who I still didn't know asked.
"Jared." Emily said, quietly.
Jared. His name was Jared.
"Knew what?" Paul asked, with his mouth full. How charming.
"She knew that we were wolves and is the one who told Bella." Jared told Sam and Paul.
I felt so small with them all staring intently at me. I began to nervously wring my hands. "It was something that Leah said about the Cullen's and an old legend about the Quileutes being descended from wolves." I began.
"What did she say about the Cullen's?" Sam suddenly asked.
I looked up at him. "That they were vampires." I answered.
"And you believed her?" He asked me.
I nodded my head. "I did."
"Why?"
"Because it's literally just like my sister to fall in love with a vampire real or not." I said, a loud snort coming from Paul. "That and because of the red eyed and haired woman Victoria who showed up at my house. The one who was stalking me for awhile." I added. "And the last thing that made me think of it was when I saw you guys fighting with her that one night and then with Laurent.
Everyone suddenly tensed up. "That was you in the car?" Paul asked me, making me look at him and nod my head.
"You are pretty observant." Sam stated.
I shrugged my shoulders. "I have a pretty active imagination actually. I think of the impossible. Even if I think it's crazy or I think I might be crazy, and it turns out this time yes it's crazy but I'm not." I said, looking right at Sam. "Is she dead? Did you kill her or that Laurent guy?" I suddenly ask.
Sam shook his head and I felt my stomach drop. "The red head ended up escaping. But the male. He is dead now."
"I thought since I haven't been feeling like I have been being followed maybe she was gone." I whispered, now feeling scared. Bella told me about her what she called mate, and with what Laurent said it was clear she really wanted Bella so why was she stalking me? I never did anything to her. What did she want? I'd think she'd be stalking Bella.
Sam actually looked at me with pity. "We're still hunting her. Do you know why she's after you?" He asked me, leaning on the counter.
I shook my head. "She's technically after Bella. I don't know why she has been stalking me." I admitted.
Sam nodded his head. "Well now that we know what she's after we will make sure to protect you. Don't worry we won't let her near you or Bella." He assured. I just nodded my head. somehow I just wasn't sure they could protect us. I had the sinking feeling she'd grow bored of waiting and slip past them and go ahead and kill me or Bella. I didn't voice this though.
About 10 minutes later all of the muffins were gone except for mine because I was no longer hungry. Paul kept eyeing my muffin so I rolled my eyes and gave it to him which he happily took and ate it. Emily shook her head.
It took awhile before Bella and Jacob came back. Bella looked a little upset. "Are you ready to go home Mar?" She asked quietly. I nodded my head and turned to Emily and Sam.
"Thank you for having us even if it was a bit of an intrusion." I said sheepishly.
Emily smiled. "Nonsense. The two of you are always welcomed here whenever. It was very nice meeting you."
I smiled at her. I couldn't help it but I questioned Sam about him breaking Leah's heart. He ended up explaining something about an imprint and that Emily was his imprint. I kind of understood but I was still upset for Leah. I still didn't find it fair, but I said nothing.
Once we left Bella wouldn't look nor talk to me. It was probably from how I treated her earlier. I sighed. Maybe I was being too mean. Even if Bella was being rude and acting a fool I shouldn't just be ignoring her.
"Bella I'm sorry I've been so mean and ignoring you, but you've got to know that you have been so rude lately." I said, now looking at her.
She bit her lip and said nothing. "There is also something I need to tell you." I added, making her take a quick look at me.
"I never told you… but the red head, Victoria has been coming around. She was in our house a couple of months ago." I said, before Bella slammed on the breaks. Luckily I was wearing my seatbelt so it caught me.
"What?" She squeaked, now looking at me.
"Apparently the wolves have been chasing her around. None of them were sure why she kept coming back. I mean they do now. Like I told you before she's trying to get to you Bella, and I am scared she's going to use me somehow to do it. Bella I know you love him but I'm so glad he's no longer here. He is literally bringing so much danger to you. He's not even here anymore and because of him we're being stalked by some crazy vampire extracting revenge for her man that he killed because he was trying to kill you. You barely survived Bella." I said, trying to ignore hearing her hands tightening around the steering wheel.
"I don't care. I would do anything for him and to have him back. Even if it meant I was constantly in danger." She said tightly.
I looked at her for a moment. "So dad and I… our lives mean that little to you that you'll put us in danger over some vampire you have an extreme hard on for?" I asked her.
Her head whipped to look at me. She looked angry but also shocked I even said it. Her jaw tightened. I knew she wanted to bite back but thought better than to do so.
"Please let's just go home." I said, shaking my head. I knew her answer.
Once we got home she stormed into the house and went straight to her room while I just slowly went inside.
While I was going inside I caught the shadow of a wolf and I felt significantly safer. I gave whoever it was a small wave, thankful they were there to protect us. I heard a snort in return, making me smile as I went inside.
I truly hoped things became normal again. I was tired of always feeling so stressed and tired. And I wanted my sister back.
