So I decided to get started on this Revamp, let's just get the easy part out of the way and talk about how the revamp gives you new wands. Sure they give you a healing spell to start that costs next to nothing, but it takes away the variety of the wand you can receive to start. Did I mention I don't really like the Revamp. I'm just doing this so that when I continue the story for the original it makes more sense. We get into the changes to the story later. I also borrowed some dialouge from another Wizard101 Fanfic I wrote, just so I can get the summary of the tutorial out of the way. Anyways, this chapter counts as an introduction to the fanfic for those who are more familiar with the revamp version. It's not much, but I hope you enjoy.
[1st person, Emily]
You all know the story of how someone from the planet earth gets to Ravenwood? Well, if you didn't know, it's as follows: My sister and I were minding our own business one day, just waiting for the first day of the new school year, already had our home rooms and everything. I was just hoping this New Year would be different from the last one, yet I highly doubted it. I'd have to start the torment and humiliation all over again. I decided I would keep my head down and focus on my studies, if I don't make myself known then they can't make fun of me, right. I also had my anxiety issues to worry about; I wouldn't be able to hide that. Oh goodie!
In the middle of nowhere one day, some acceptance letters to Ravenwood showed up in our dining room, affecting our family's memory so they would think we were always going there. My sister and I read the acceptance letters in our room: Ravenwood was a school of magic, located in another dimension. Our family would think we are at a normal elite boarding school called Ravenwood while we were there.
I had mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I was ecstatic. Attending a magic school, this would be just like the stories I read. I was thrilled to know magic existed. It also seemed they really wanted us there. This could be why I never fit in here. Yet Genevieve was also wanted in this school, and she was okay with fitting in at home. Which led to the other hand, this would be the same problem I had with going to our school right now. How would they react to me? Would they make fun of me too? In the end I felt either school could lead to the same problem, so it would be picking my poison. At least at Ravenwood I could learn magic. My sister and I decided that we would go to Ravenwood.
We spent one final night with our family; we debated packing, but we figured our clothes might not fit in the other dimension. Hopefully the school would give us some new clothes. We did end up packing some non-clothes related items: hair-brushes, tooth-brushes, etc., also our favorite stuffed animals. After our final night, and some secret heartfelt goodbyes, we accepted the invitation the next morning.
Stepping into the portal was like stepping into a place of no physics whatsoever. You know the places that seem to have their own rules outside natural order; where it's just so weird, mysterious, or magical, maybe even wondrous…that's what the inside of the portal was like. We couldn't even tell what colour we were; I was yellow, no orange, no…red. We stumbled out of the other side, and onto the floor of this tower. We took a look around: there was this crystal that made a spiral of tiny little images above us; also there was a giant book on a stand beside us, as well as an owl on a perch. We must have been in the right place.
I looked at my sister, and I noticed her hair was pink now. That was weird. It was also loose; I knew she was wearing a ponytail when we entered. I gasped at the sight of her, explaining to her that her hair was pink now. Genevieve and I are proud of our hair's natural colour; it was a multitude of colours already, being brown, red and blonde. So of course, Gen was upset at the revelation. I figured her pink hairband must have fallen out in the portal, and the colours must have gotten confused.
We were quickly introduced to a talking owl named Gamma. Gen was flabbergasted, but I was non-plused. We were in another dimension where anything could happen or be sound; a talking Owl didn't seem illogical in a magical place. I was taking everything new and weird on the chin. He said we'd be able to get the hairband back at thanksgiving and fix the situation then, or we could go the magic mirror salon and get it changed. Since our hair colour was so unique and not easily replicated we decided to go for the former option.
Shortly after that conversation, we met Headmaster Ambrose; he was an elderly and kind wizard. He told us that there was more than one type of wizard in this world, seven different types in fact, and depending on which type you were you went to a specific school to be taught your magic. To determine which school we belonged to, we would have to take a test using the Book of Secrets. I went first. The first question: what was most important to me, to show off my skills or be a part of a winning team? I liked winning, it felt good to win. At the same time, would I like to show off what I was capable of? I could show it off, but people might not notice, I was okay with that. I decided winning was more important.
Next question: which was most powerful? Earthquake, hurricane, tornado, volcano, sandstorm, plague, or blizzard: Earthquakes could be harmless. Hurricanes too if you prepared well enough, tornados were terrifying. Volcanos didn't just have lava, didn't just turn people to stone, but also had toxic gas. Sandstorms could be avoided if you hunker down. Plagues you could make a vaccine, and blizzards are similar to sandstorms. I was tied for Tornados and Volcanos. Volcanos had very fertile soil, so that's why people lived near them. People also live in twister country. Tornados terrified me as a child, never wanting one to come near me, but I also feared volcanos and questioned people's decision to live near them. It was taking me a while to decide, and I didn't want to make this go on forever. The question said which was the most powerful, not which was the most terrifying, I thought about that instead. Tornado is just a gust of wind, meanwhile volcanos have lava, boiling ash, and toxic fumes, volcanos would have to be the most powerful.
The third question: which best described me? I am a great listener and friend, I am very well-rounded, I am fast and athletic, I am honest and hardworking, I am smart and study hard, I am extremely creative. Gen says I have trouble listening, and I don't have any friends. I wouldn't say I'm well rounded because that means a bit of everything in all areas, I'm not that athletic even if I am fast, I am honest but I can't say I work hard, I'm pretty lazy, I am very smart and I study hard, but I tend to get Bs. Am I extremely creative? I suck at art, I mostly am a story teller. If I had to pick between two of these, I'd say between smart and creative. I'm more of right brain thinker, so I pick creative.
The next question: I like to spend my time by myself or with my friends. I don't have anyone outside Gen, and I'm not sure she counts because she's family, she doesn't like spending time with me most of the time, so I spend most of it alone. By myself it is.
My favorite class in school: Science or math, I like all of my classes, health, sports, reading and writing. It was obvious for me, it was reading and writing. What was my favorite time of day, Morning, Afternoon, or Night? I'm not a morning person, and Night can be a bit disheartening and scary, Afternoon it was. The most important part of a story was the hero or heroine, or all of the characters? Heroes and heroines are important, but a good story makes all of the characters fleshed out. What was my favorite animal: Unicorn, Serpent, Shark, Crab, Polar bear, Dragon, or Bat? The answer was obvious for me here as well, seeing as I'm a dragon nut.
The final question: what was my favorite Gemstone? There was only two to choose from, Ruby or Peridot. I never even heard of Peridot, a seemed a yellowish green, seemed unattractive. Ruby however, was my mom's birthstone. I was jealous she had a Red gemstone. I love the colour red; it's bold, striking and a brave colour. It's a colour of power; it's why most flags have it. It was a no brainer, I picked the ruby. Turning the final page, from flames erupted from it.
"You are a fire wizard," the headmaster told me. A fire wizard sounded like a destructive force of nature, so I was concerned.
"Is that bad?" I asked.
"Oh no," said Ambrose. "In fact, most fire wizards or pyromancers are known to be smart, passionate, competitive and attractive."
"Well, I'm sure of the first two," I said.
"You should know that some famous Pyromancers include Morgan le Fay and William Shakespeare."
"Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, wait a minute," Gen spoke up. "Morgan le Fay as in from the legend and William Shakespeare was a wizard!?"
"Yes, both of those are true." This was amazing; this meant that magic was in fact real in our world as well. Not only that, but it meant that this wasn't the first time this dimension had reached out to ours, and we were just another some of the greats.
"What can fire wizards do?" I asked, now excited.
"Well, in their magic it's mostly based on sparks of flame, and in duels they have attacks that linger, damaging their foes again and again. They powerful on their own and are useful ally."
"That's kind of cool." My sister then declared us both to be Pyromancers. It was slightly annoying as she didn't like us being grouped together and now she was doing it herself. It was also understandable. We were used to being placed in the same classes, getting the same grades, getting the same gifts, and getting the same on personality tests as we were that alike. She was still urged to take the test, as students in the wrong school don't do so well.
It turned out she was wrong. On her final page, she got a burst of electricity. This indicated she was a storm wizard. That proved we were independent beings. She was told that storm wizards are usually impulsive, educated, creative, and independent. I knew the last three things were already true, and seeing as she jumped the gun with what she was, that meant she was impulsive too. This made me laugh. They told her she was similar to Ben Franklin, Lady Circe, and Galileo. I knew Ben Franklin was a famous inventor, and Circe was a sorceress. That was another legend and historical figure to add to the list of who was a wizard and real.
She was then informed that Storm magic was more powerful than Fire magic. I was too upset by that; my sister needed a win, also fire magic seemed right for me, so I didn't care it was less powerful. What Professor Ambrose said next was mind blowing,
"It's storms that start the fires and it's storms that put them out. Combined, storm magic and fire magic make life magic, for they are what create and sustain life, storm sparking it while fire keeps it going. Storm magic in duels gives very strong attacks, but in turn they have very weak durability and defense. Weaker than fire, your sister would have to defend you if you ever went into a duel."
So I wasn't completely less powerful than my sister. That meant that we'd have to be there for each other. I'd have to find my strength in the coming year.
"I just want to be there for Emily," said Gen. I knew what she meant, considering my hardships in Elementary school. I was a little insulted she didn't think I could stand on my own at all. We were told that we would be sharing a dorm, and could visit each other outside of class. We were then given new uniforms. We were given tall pointy hats, which bent a little at the top. We were also given a white shirt, and brown pants, which were to be stuffed inside working boots. We were also given overcoats to wear. For my hat, overcoat, and boot rims, I picked a pure red outfit. If we got to pick the colours, I was going to wear my favorite. Even though pink was available my sister went with wearing purple with yellow trim. Her reasoning was that she already had pink hair, and purple and yellow were the colours of her school, which she also favored.
After getting changed, I asked a bit more about the magic we'd be learning. We couldn't just be learning dueling magic right? I was told that the reason why dueling was such a heavy focus was because Wizards loved dueling, but we would also be learning practical magic. Luckily, most of the time dueling just knocks a person out as wizards can withstand a lot. The other reason for the dueling lessons caught my attention. We were told it was important to know how to defend ourselves at this specific time, as there were undesirable people afoot. This made me piece together a bunch of small details I noticed.
We both had noticed earlier that it had seemed like we were really wanted at that school. It could have been us having really strong magical abilities. When we got to Ravenwood however, Gamma had mentioned there were some undesirable people about, and the magic we were going to learn at the moment was to help the students defend ourselves. From all of this, I could pick up that these undesirable people were causing problems and that was never good. The last point I pondered over was the fact we were really wanted at the time. Why would they really want to bring in two new students so badly in this time of crisis? I got this weird feeling… one where I didn't know how to feel, or if the feeling was correct.
Something started to happen in the Spiral above us. There was a ripple on the image of the tree. The headmaster examined this ripple closely.
"It seems to be coming from Golem tower," said the Headmaster.
"What's happening at Golem tower?" I asked. I wondered if something was wrong.
"I don't know," replied Ambrose. "I suggest we all take a look." With that he banged his staff on the ground. A mist encircled us; it enveloped us in a flash of light…
We were then transported to a place called Golem tower, and it suddenly started to rain. Noticing there was a strange presence inside the tower, inside we went. Inside was a nefarious Necromancer named Malistere. He seemed to want to do away with us, but with some encouragement from Headmaster Ambrose, we went to battle them. We quickly got the hang of how the magic worked by reading the spell cards. I found out we had strengths and weaknesses thanks to our class of magic, and Gen got pretty wounded in the fight. Luckily I ended things with a meteor swarm spell, which defeated Malistere's draconian minions and sent him packing.
After the battle was over, Ambrose healed Genevieve. He then gave us our starter spell decks, spell books (which could conveniently fit in our bags), and our wands. Our wands looked like unicorn horns, with them spiraling and being near white.
The headmaster commended us on our courage, imagining great things for us. He then went to go tidy up his office, saying he would summon us when things were presentable so he could start on our enrollment. What Gen said next put me off a little bit, she said,
""I don't think we should stay here."
"We'll be summoned shortly," I reassured her.
"No, I mean in this world. I don't think we should stay here."
"Why not?" I asked, aghast.
"Why not?! I nearly died back there!"
"You were fine; you just got cut up a bit." I wouldn't admit it, but I was worried. Of course, since Genevieve was now fine I was feeling adventurous again.
"I was bleeding out and it hurt to move, or even breathe!"
"You were healed instantly; I don't think they'll let you die here."
"It still scares me being here," said Genevieve indigently. It was scary, but for some reason, I didn't want to run away.
"Well, I feel like we have to be here. You can go if you want, but I'm staying, and I'll be learning magic without you." We both deal with 'fomo' when we regard each other, the best way to make my sister stay, at least for the meantime, was make Gen seem like she'd be missing out.
You're probably wondering why I wanted her to stay so badly. Well, Genevieve may not have been a great friend, but she was the only one I had. Being in a new place was daunting, so I wanted someone familiar beside me.
"Fine, I'll stay; as long you back me up out there," Gen conceded.
"Don't worry, I will, I promise." With that, we disappeared out of the golem tower, and appeared in the headmaster's office.
I write a lot of fanfics surrounding "A Tale of Two Saviors," I must love it or something. I'll put as much effort into this one as the others, don't you worry. This is just a quick bit before the real story begins. Until then, I hope you stay tuned.
