Game of Thrones/Lord of the Rings Crossover
Hello! This is my first attempt at my own story. I don't expect the best grammar or structure, but I will try. I mainly have a big thought in my mind and wish to apply it to writing then upload. And then see how it goes.
I will be making this up as I go but my idea to start with is having Durin's Folk from Lord of The Rings in the world of Westeros. I look to explore how dwarves (Not imps) could possibly affect the game of thrones. I have chosen not to adhere to the correct letters Tolkien utilizes for his many languages and script. In doing this I wish to make it easier to read and easier to write quicker.
Of course, I do not own anything by J.R.R Tolkien or anything by George R.R Martin. I am a huge fan and see this work as in honor of them.
If you read, I appreciate it truly!
Prologue:
Third Age 1970 (Ten years prior to the awakening of Durin's Bane)
King Durin VI, the sixth of his name and the six times over reincarnated version of the first dwarf king looked down upon his people wandering about his kingdom. He was a proud dwarf and loved his people. The realm of Khazad-dum was as splendid as any realm that graced the world of Middle-Earth. King Durin was still amazed at the wealth and ingenuity of his subjects. They delved deep into the mountains and carved out leagues upon leagues of caverns forever looking for more ores.
It wasn't until his people uncovered the mysterious metal, mithril, that their might grew rapidly. All of Middle-Earth coveted this precious metal, especially the Elves. Mithril was known for its beauty and being soft and malleable. It could also be fashioned into the strongest of weapons and armour. Only other mithril forged weapons could pierce a mail coat of mithril. Fine jewels of exquisite quality were made to show all who looked upon it, the power and might of his kingdom.
King Durin lifted his crown upon his brow up off his head and examined it. 250 years after he ascended the throne, he was still mesmerized by the beauty of his mithril crown. It truly showed his power, he thought.
King Durin had a long day of feasting and drinking with his family and decided to retire to his bed for the night. As soon as he laid upon his bed, his eyes closed, and he was off to sleep.
Next thing he knew, he smelled fire and smoke from a forge. Durin opened his eyes and realized he was in a forge of massive proportions. He looked upon his surroundings and saw the quality of the weapons and jewelry haphazardly spread around the forge looking as if it was just completed work. He heard a massive CLUNG from a hammer hitting metal and looked for the sound.
Then his eyes laid upon a massive man looking 9 feet tall and with arms as wide as Durin's thick legs. The man had a thick red beard and long red hair braided into a messy ponytail. The man was drenched in sweat from hammering away upon a piece of metal he was attempting to mold. The strength of his blow shook the room itself, which no doubt laid claim to the strength that his physique suggested. The man suddenly stopped hammering the metal and placed it in water to cool his desired shape he created. The metal looked to be a long broadsword in the early stages of crafting. The man let his new sword cool then laid it upon a table and slowly turned towards Durin.
He had a smile upon his face and Durin immediately noticed the presence this man had. It felt as if power was rolling off in waves from his body. He dipped his head toward Durin and spoke,
"King Durin, my son. Welcome to my great forge."
King Durin knew in that second who he was looking upon and dropped to his knees. Aule, he was and one of the Valar and the creator of his people who molded and crafted the first dwarves in his likeness and desire; given the breath of life from Eru Illuvatar, the creator shortly afterward.
Durin said, "O great Aule, forgive me for I did not recognize your greatness."
Aule chuckled and waved him off and replied,
"King Durin, you may stand and no need for apologies my child. It is I who brought you to my great forge for I have need to speak with you, King of my children."
Durin rose to feet and looked into Aule's eyes and they swirled with the red fires of a forge.
"I am yours to command," said Durin.
Aule nodded and said, "I will be blunt for I know you will appreciate me getting to the meat of our discussion rather than coating my words with honey. A great calamity is soon approaching your people and kingdom. I intend to save you all, as permission was bestowed upon me by the creator. A Balrog of Morgoth lays asleep, deep below your halls and eventually it will awake and bring ruin upon your people. I have two choices for you to consider."
Durin face was as white as a ghost as he absorbed the information. Durin's voice broke but he replied "I bow to your wisdom my Lord. What two choices do I have?"
Aule stared deep into Durin's eyes and said, "The first choice is to take your people and move to another mountain in Middle-Earth and begin anew. The second choice is more complicated but the one I suggest. It is where I will transfer you to another world that we, the Valar oversee. It is called Planetos and has two large continents, Westeros and Essos. This new world is free of Morgoth's influence and you will find none of his dark creatures or orcs but there are still creatures of darkness, however. There are no elves or other dwarves present. Only men and a species called children of the forest are present. There are other creatures I will not mention for that would be up to you to discover, although I will mention this world does indeed have dragons but they differ from the ones you know. They do not speak nor do they covet gold. They are merely intelligent beasts that can breathe fire and fly. If you desire this choice, you will need to begin preparations for your people to move. You can take carts full of items or valuables you wish to take. I would also suggest taking a small number of your livestock, goats, and boars to begin anew."
Durin was speechless at first and thought in silence for a few minutes. He eventually said, "I wish to try this new world you speak of and take your opinion to move there to heart."
Aule smiled brightly and said, "I figured as much. When you wake up from this dream, prepare your people and all you wish to take. This new world will be yours to do with that you wish. You could make friendships with the first men or rebuild another great kingdom deep below the surface. You will never be able to meet me again after you enter this new realm but I will hear prayers and go now with my blessing, King Durin. I will know when you are ready to leave and appear in the great city of Dwarrowdelf. We will converse again then."
The world went white and then King Durin sat up in his bed gasping and trying to catch his breath. He got up from his bed and knew what he must do.
I will try my best to be accurate with dwarven history and knowledge but I can only do so much. I am referencing the Lord of the Rings wiki for information but if I can't find what I am looking for, I will just make stuff up. Also, you may have noticed some of the words from Lord of Rings have specific letters such as in Aule or Khazad-dum. I'm sorry but I will just be typing them in English.
If you got anything to say, just leave a comment good or bad; I don't really give a shit but I'll still read them.
