Sam vs Nessa
After Sam's Toxtricity was treated, the group exited the Turffield Pokemon Center.
"So, Sam, you ready to take on Nessa?" asked Luna.
"You think maybe I can try to capture more Pokemon first?" asked Sam. "I would like to have more Pokemon for my team, especially those strong against water types, seeing how Nessa uses those types."
"That's a good idea, Sam." said Lincoln.
"Yeah; let's go find you some more Pokemon." said Luna. The group walked south of Turffield and arrived at Route 4. They looked through the wheat field for Pokemon when Sam sees a large, pinkish, pumpkin-like Pokemon with a pair of holes on the lower part of its body, floating over the wheat.
"Hey, what's that?" asked Sam, taking out her Rotom Phone and pointing it at the Pokemon.
"Pumpkaboo, the Pumpkin Pokemon. When taking spirits to the afterlife, large Pumpkaboo prefer the spirits of adults to those of children." said Sam's Rotom Phone. Lincoln looks at the Rotom Phone.
"This says Pumpkaboo's part grass and part ghost; so Meowstic and Shellos would both be at a disadvantage." said Lincoln.
"Okay, Toxtricity it is." said Sam, pulling out Toxtricity's pokeball and throws it, releasing her. Pumpkaboo turned towards Toxtricity and faces it; its shadow stretches out towards Toxtricity and it rises up from the ground and strikes her. "Toxtricity, use Acid Spray!" Toxtricity forms globs of acid from her hands and she throws them at Pumpkaboo, hitting it, and lowering its special defense.
Pumpkaboo flies at Toxtricity and makes a scary face at her, causing her to fall back and hurt herself.
"Toxtricity, use Acid Spray once more!" said Sam. Toxtricity throws more globs of acid at Pumpkaboo and hits it, doing more damage than the first Acid Spray did due to Pumpkaboo's special defense being weakened, and knocking it to the ground.
"Catch it, Sam!" said Luna. Sam takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at Pumpkaboo and hits it; it gets sucked into the pokeball and it wiggles around. After it wiggled around a few times before it clicks. Sam walks to the pokeball and picks it up.
"Awesome! I caught a Pumpkaboo!" cheered Sam.
"Great job, Sam." said Ronnie Anne. Sam looks up Pumpkaboo's information on her Rotom Phone.
"Okay, my Pumpkaboo's a girl, she knows Astonish, Shadow Sneak, Confuse Ray, Trick-or Treat, Razor Leaf, and Leech Seed." said Sam. "She has the Pickup ability which has her find items after battling Pokemon."
"Now you have another Pokemon that can help you take on Nessa." said Clyde. Sam takes Pumpkaboo out of her pokeball while Luna takes a Super Potion out of her backpack and gives it to Sam; she sprays Pumpkaboo with it and heals her wounds.
"Sorry Toxtricity was rough with you, Pumpkaboo; I hope things will be cool between us." said Sam. Pumpkaboo smiles and nods in response.
Sam spent an hour training her new Pumpkaboo and she learned Bullet Seed. Pumpkaboo also found a Potion and a Tiny Mushroom with her Pickup ability.
"Okay, guys; I'm ready to face Nessa." said Sam.
"All right, Sam; let's get going." said Luna. The group hopped on their Rotom Bikes and began biking west of Turffield. Half an hour later, they arrived at Hulbury.
"Maybe I should buy a Rose Incense for my Pumpkaboo first before challenging Nessa." said Sam.
"Good idea; it'll boost the power of her grass type moves." said Lincoln.
"I should get one for Phantump also." said Lucy from behind Lincoln, scaring him.
"You know, Sam; I read that Pumpkaboos and Phantumps can evolve by trading them like Luna's Boldore and Lucy's Haunter did." said Lincoln. "You and Lucy should do a mock trade with Pumpkaboo and Phantump."
"Rockin' idea, little dude." said Sam.
"I agree." said Lucy. Sam and Lucy went to the Incense Store and they each bought a Rose Incense; the two girls give the incenses to their respective Pokemon.
Using their Rotom Phones, Lucy traded her Phantump to Sam for her Pumpkaboo; soon after, they traded them back to each other.
"Let's see what our Pokemon are now." said Sam as she tosses Pumpkaboo's pokeball while Lucy tosses Phantump's.
Sam's Pumpkaboo now resembled a dark brown gourd with a face that resembled a jack-o-lantern on her lower body.
Lucy's Phantump now resembled a brown tree with a single red eye with branch arms that had green leaves around her wrists and also on top of her with hornlike branches on each side of her head and another sticking out of her forehead. Sam takes out her Rotom Phone to look up her newly evolved Pumpkaboo.
"Gourgeist, the Pumpkin Pokemon, and the evolved form of Pumpkaboo. A large-sized Pumpkaboo evolves into a large-sized Gourgeist. Its bodily proportions also get passed on to its descendants." said Sam's Rotom Phone. Lucy points her Rotom Phone at her newly evolved Phantump.
"Trevenant, the Elder Tree Pokemon, and the evolved form of Phantump. Small roots that extend from the tips of this Pokémon's feet can tie into the trees of the forest and give Trevenant control over them." said Lucy's Rotom Phone.
"Congratulations, you two." said Leni.
"Thanks, Luce." said Sam.
"You too, Sam." replied Lucy. Sam turned towards the Hulbury Stadium.
"Let's do this." said Sam. The others cheer in response. They soon arrived at Hulbury Stadium; once inside, Sam approached the staff member standing in front of the door leading to where the Gym Test is taking place. "Hey; I'm here to challenge Nessa."
"Very well; once you change into your uniform, you can go through those doors and do the gym test." replied the staff member. A few minutes later, Sam walks out of the changing room, now in her gym uniform. The staff member lets Sam enter the gym test area.
Once a staff member explained to Sam what she had to do; after a whistle was blown, Sam got started; it was a little difficult, but in the end, Sam was able to make it to the gate and therefore, passing the gym test. Back at Royal Woods at the Loud residence.
"Sam did it!" cheered Simon.
"She still has to literally beat Nessa to earn a badge." said Lori.
"She can do it; she beat Milo and she didn't even need to Dynamax her Pokemon." said Lynn Jr.
"Only because she didn't have one of those Dynamax Bands on her." said Rita.
"Sam can do it." said Simon. Back at Hulbury Stadium, Sam and Nessa both enter the battle arena while Lincoln and the others cheered her on.
"You can do it, Sam; I believe in you!" said Luna.
"We all do!" said Lola.
"Go get her, Sam!" said Lana. Soon, Sam and Nessa reached the pitch, and they faced each other.
"Congratulations on passing the gym test; but if you still have to beat me if you want to win the Water Badge." said Nessa. Sam nods in response and she and Nessa walk to opposite ends of the arena while a referee walks to the center.
"This is an official gym battle between the Gym Leader, Nessa; and the Gym Challenger, Sam Sharp." said the official. "Each trainer will use three Pokemon; whoever defeats both of their opponent's Pokemon will be the winner. Let the battle begin." The official steps to the sidelines as Nessa and Sam each pull out a pokeball from their waists.
"Goldeen, go!" said Nessa, throwing Goldeen's pokeball and releasing it.
"Nessa starts things off with Goldeen; what will Sam do?" asked the announcer.
"Let's go, Gourgeist!" said Sam, throwing Gourgeist's pokeball and releasing her.
"And Sam answers my question by bringing out a Gourgeist." said the announcer.
"Gourgeist, Leech Seed!" said Sam. Gourgeist shoots a seed out of her mouth, and it hits Goldeen; it opens up and small, leafy vines came out of them, and they wrap around Goldeen.
"Goldeen, Peck!" said Nessa. Goldeen leaps at Gourgeist and jabs her with its horn, dealing super effective damage. Red energy formed on the vines that were wrapped around Goldeen and they drain some energy from it and it goes to Gourgeist, healing some of her wound.
"Gourgeist, Bullet Seed!" said Sam. A barrage of glowing seeds shoot out from the lower mouth of Gourgeist's body and they hit Goldeen, dealing major damage due to her Rose Incense powering up her grass type moves.
"Use Peck again!" said Nessa. Goldeen leaps at Gourgeist and jabs her with its horn, dealing super effective damage to her. Goldeen gets more of her energy drained by Leech Seed's vines, and they went to Gourgeist, healing some of her wounds and knocking Goldeen out.
"Goldeen is unable to battle; Gourgeist wins the match." said the referee.
"Sam's Gourgeist has defeated Nessa's Goldeen; what will Nessa do now?" asked the announcer.
"You go, Sam!" said Luna.
"Keep it up!" said Lana.
"You're doing great!" said Lincoln.
"Totes great!" said Leni. Back at Royal Woods.
"Go, Sam!" cheered Simon.
"She's doing good so far." said Luan.
"She still has to beat two more Pokemon." said Lynn Sr.
"I believe in my sister." said Simon while looking at the television in anticipation. Back at Hulbury Stadium, Nessa returns Goldeen to its pokeball.
"You did well, Goldeen." said Nessa. She puts Goldeen's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Arrokuda, go!" She throws Arrokuda's pokeball and releases it.
"Nessa has brought out her Arrokuda; can it beat Sam's Gourgeist?" asked the announcer.
"Arrokuda, use Bite!" Arrokuda leaps at Gourgeist and bites it, dealing super effective damage to it, but not making her flinch.
"Razor Leaf!" said Sam. Gourgeist releases leaves from her body and they hit Arrokuda, dealing super effective damage. "Now use Shadow Sneak!" Gourgeist's shadow stretches out towards Arrokua and it strikes Arrokuda.
"Use Bite again!" said Nessa. Arrokuda leaps at Gourgeist and it bites her, dealing super effective damage, but still doesn't make her flinch.
"Bullet Seed!" said Sam. Gourgeist releases another barrage of glowing seeds from her body, and they hit Arrokuda, dealing enough damage to knock it out.
"Arrokuda is unable to battle; Gourgeist wins the match." said the referee.
"And Sam's Gourgeist has defeated Nessa's second Pokemon; can Nessa make a comeback?" asked the announcer. Back at Royal Woods.
"Go, Sam!" said Simon.
"She's doing really good so far." said Rita.
"All she has to do is beat Nessa's final Pokemon." said Lisa.
"She can do it." said Simon. Back at Hulbury Stadium, Lincoln and the others were rooting for Sam.
"Yeah! Go, Sam!" said Luna.
"You can do it, Sam!" said Lincoln.
"Just one more win and you got this!" said Lana. Nessa returns Arrokuda to its pokeball.
"You did your best, Arrokuda; you've earned a rest." said Nessa. Sam saw that her Gourgesit was breathing heavily. Deciding Gourgiest has done enough for now, she returns Gourgeist to her pokeball.
"You deserve a rest too, Gourgeist." said Sam.
"And both trainers have returned their Pokemon to their pokeballs; what will they bring out next?" asked the announcer.
"Why did Sam return Gourgeist to her pokeball?" asked Lola.
"Gourgiest did look pretty beat up; probably thought she needed to rest." said Clyde.
"Yeah; Sam did the right thing returning Gourgeist to her pokeball." said Luna.
"Totes." said Leni. Sam and Nessa each pull out a pokeball.
"You're doing really well, Sam; but you still have one more Pokemon to beat." said Nessa. "Drednaw, go!" She throws Drednaw's pokeball and releases it.
"Nessa has sent out her Drednaw; what will Sam bring out?" asked the announcer.
"Toxtricity, go!" said Sam, throwing Toxtricity's pokeball and releasing her.
"And Sam has brought out her Toxtricity." said the announcer. Nessa returns Drednaw to its pokeball and she uses her Dynamax Band to enlarge it; she throws it and releases Drednaw, now Dynamaxed.
"And Nessa had Dynamaxed her Drednaw; can Sam's Toxtricity beat it?" asked the announcer.
"Toxtricity, Nuzzle!" said Sam. Toxtricity rubs her cheeks with her hands; she runs at Drednaw and rubs her cheeks against it, dealing super effective damage to it. Electricity surrounds Drednaw's body and it twitches.
"And with Toxtricity's Nuzzle, Drednaw is now paralyzed." said the announcer.
"Drednaw, try using Max Rockfall!" said Nessa. Unfortunately for Nessa, paralysis stops Drednaw from attacking.
"Use Shock Wave!" said Sam. Toxtricity releases a beam of light blue electricty from her body and it hits Drednaw, dealing super effective damage.
"Max Rockfall!" said Nessa. Drednaw fights through its paralysis and summons a giant slab of rock from the ground, and it falls down on Toxtricity, dealing damage to her. A sandstorm appears in the arena and she gets hit by the sand, being dealt more damage.
"Toxtricity, Spark!" said Sam. Toxtricity becomes surrounded by electricity and she charges at Drednaw; she rams into Drednaw and deals super effective damage to it. Drednaw shrinks down to its original size, and it passes out.
"Drednaw is unable to battle; Toxtricity wins the match. The winner of this gym battle is the challenger, Sam." said the referee.
"And it's over! Sam's Toxtricity has defeated Nessa's Dynamaxed Drednaw without having to Dynamax Toxtricity herself!" said the announcer.
"We did it!" cheered Sam.
"Sam won!" cheered Luna.
"Hey, Luna; how about a little victory music for Sam?" said Lincoln.
"Good idea, little bro." said Luna. She brings out her guitar and begins playing a ballad that had everyone jamming to it. Back at Royal Woods, Simon was jumping up and down on the sofa, cheering.
"Hey, no jumping on the sofa!" said Lynn Sr.
Back at Hulbury Stadium, Nessa returns Drednaw to its pokeball.
"I'm proud of you, Drednaw." said Nessa. She puts Drednaw's pokeball away and walks over to Sam. "Congratulations on your victory, Sam."
"Thanks, Nessa." said Sam. Nessa reaches into her pocket and pulls out a Water Badge.
"As proof of your victory here in Hulbury Stadium, I present you with the Water Badge." said Nessa.
"Rockin." said Sam as she takes the Water Badge, along with pokedollars. Later at the lobby, Sam joined up with her friends.
"You were rad out there, Sam." said Luna.
"Congratulations, Sam." said Ronnie Anne.
"That was an amazing battle." said Clyde.
"Thanks, everyone." replied Sam.
Now that Sam has won her second badge, she can focus on winning the Fire Badge from Kabu in Motostoke Stadium. Will she succeed? Find out.
