Disclaimer: First Chapter
Story Start!
4 years.
Naruto was 11 years old now, and no amount of healthy eating and money had allowed him to hit his growth spurt earlier, meaning that while he was a Jonin... he was still the shortest person of his generation at the moment. He didn't hit his growth spurt in his main timeline until he was about 14... meaning at the moment he and Hinata, the two shortest of the class, were competing in height to see who was shorter.
Not that he was in that class anymore.
He had been a Jonin and doing mission after mission, after mission, and mission, with Kakashi for 4 years and earning himself a hell of a reputation as a powerful Jonin who did S-ranked missions with Kakashi. The two of them had completed nothing but A and S-ranked missions since he had started to work with the man.
He still trained in his free time at the village.
'There is Hinata again... she's so adorable.' Naruto thought to himself as he trained lightly. She was watching him from behind a tree, with her Byakugan she could see him whenever he passed by the Hyuga compound, and whenever he was in the village he always took a walk by that area just so that she knew he was in the area.
That way she could follow him.
She would approach him when she was a little less shy, and he enjoyed his little game of finding her hiding spot and calling her out. She didn't know it was a game to him, but he really enjoyed watching her be lovestruck.
"Okay, now it's time to practice my new super secret technique...ah, Hinata... did you need something from me?" Naruto appeared on the tree branch above Hinata. She turned bright red and looked up at him, touching her fingers together. 'She is just the cutest.'
"Uh... sorry, I was just... sorry!" Hinata eeked out as she ran away, having been caught once again. Naruto laughed, he gave a hearty laugh as he watched Hinata running away.
That was fun for him.
-The Next Day-
"Eh?"
"You've been a Jonin for 4 years now, and I believe it would be great for you to become a Jonin-sensei... and I've already selected your students." Hiruzen was smiling at Naruto in his new apartment as he gave Naruto a letter, showing that Naruto was being put into the position of Jonin leader of a Genin squad.
"Eh?" Naruto asked again.
"I think you'll like your squad, it is a prodigy on it, and a hard worker. I wanted to give this squad to Guy, but I did some thinking, and I think you would be suited to it more." Hiruzen handed him the papers for 3 new Genin that Naruto was going to be in charge of training. Naruto accepted the papers, but he didn't even need to look at them to know who he was being assigned as students.
Neji Hyuga, Rock Lee, and Tenten.
He was being assigned those 3 as students, and he was going to be in charge of training them. Naruto looked at the papers, and he could only pause as he looked at Rock Lee's picture... the picture of him before he started to wear a green spandex suit and wear a bowl haircut. Naruto never really saw Lee without those traits.
"Eh?"
"You and Kakashi had a 100% succeed rate on missions together, so consider this as a nice vacation from all your hard work... enjoy yourself now, you need to meet them at the academy tomorrow." Hiruzen wasn't giving Naruto the chance to refuse, because Hiruzen was Hokage and didn't need permission or to ask.
Naruto laughed when Hiruzen left the apartment.
"This is not according to your plan."
"Nah, it isn't... but I can have fun with this... I can abuse the hell out of this for some serious fun." Naruto heard what Kurama was saying, but he didn't care if this would change a bunch in the future. He was super interested in seeing what would happen if he took command of a group of Genin that he knew from a previous loop in his life.
-The Next Day-
"This guy's younger than us... are we really suppose to believe he is going to be able to teach us anything?" Tenten whispered to Neji as they walked behind Naruto, who had picked them up from the academy.
"He's Uzumaki Naruto, promoted to Jonin at Age 7, a prodigy on the level of those like the 4th Hokage and Itachi Uchiha. Rumors about him have spread through out the Hyuga clan." Neji wasn't excited, but he had a respect for Naruto.
Naruto sighed in annoyance.
'Right... Neji would have heard about me, so he respects my reputation already. Neji was the type to respect prodigies like that... still, Bush Brows seems... different than I remember him... right, he hasn't started taijutsu training yet with Guy.' Naruto thought as he looked at all of them, just glancing behind himself at them.
"My name is Uzumaki Naruto, and I don't have a particular specialty. I'm a master of Taijutsu, Ninjutsu, and combat. I've never failed a mission. In a few hours, I'm going to be testing you to see if you have the right to be Genin... fail, and you go back to the academy... come and find me." Naruto stated as he vanished.
-Hours Later-
"We found you... ha... ha..."
'They haven't learned tree climbing yet... right, that is a lesson Jonin give to their students.' Naruto saw the exhausted trio of Genin, who had climbed to the top of a training area that Kakashi had used to teach Sasuke the chidori. They had to find him and come up to the top using nothing but their strength and stamina.
"Did we have your test?"
"Nope, because I'm not the real Naruto... I'm just a clone. Around this village are 999 clones of me, and 1 original... your test is to find the real me among all the clones. Good on you for finding this clone though." Naruto stated.
*POOF*
-Many Hours Later-
"Ah... you managed to find the real me, good job... you passed the test." Naruto stated as he slurped up some Ichiraku ramen noodles. The trio of super sweaty and exhausted genin could only stare at him wordlessly, exhausted from the test that he had given them.
They managed to find him after finding 280 clones before him.
"What... even was that test?"
"A shinobi is one who endures any challenge. If you had given up, you wouldn't be worthy of being shinobi. Only those who have the guts to never give up are worthy to be called a ninja." Naruto explained to Tenten when she asked. Naruto noticed that Rock Lee was looking at him with a great admiration.
He could have given them the Bell test like Hiruzen did to Jiraiya, Jiraiya did to Minato, Minato did to Kakashi, and Kakashi did to him in his timeline... but he felt that this team wouldn't understand the meaning of that test and fail. He knew that Rock Lee would refuse to give up until he found the real him, and Neji would be too stubborn to give up. This was a test that he knew they would eventually manage to accomplish.
"Sir, can even a ninja like me, who can't use Ninjutsu or Genjutsu, be a splendid ninja?" Rock Lee asked.
"Not only can a ninja like that be a splendid ninja, but I'll help you become one myself. Now, you three sit down and enjoy a bowl of ramen, my treat, after this test you deserve it." Naruto was younger than them physically, but he was still their sensei now, and he was still over 100 years older than them mentally. It was still up to him to play the part and treat them to a good meal after they worked hard.
Neji nodded his head politely, and just sat down next to Naruto.
'To imagine, he made so many clones and divided his chakra so evenly that even I couldn't tell them apart with my byakugan... this teacher truly is a genius, worthy of being my sensei.' Neji nodded to himself, satisfied with the teacher that he had been assigned. He looked at Lee, who sat on Naruto's other side. 'Stilll... it would be better if I had a teammate who isn't a handicap.'
Naruto ignored the look Neji sent Lee.
"Naruto-"
"Naruto-sensei." Naruto corrected Tenten.
"Naruto-sensei, will all your training be this... sadistic."
"Nope, only about half of my training will be this bad... the other half will be way worse than this." Naruto stated, and nobody could tell if he was being honest or not. Tenten was just very nervous about the answer, and he didn't open his mouth and correct himself at all. "Whenever we aren't on a mission, I expect you to meet me at Training Ground 44 for training. That training ground is nicknamed for Forest of Death... it has 100 foot long centipedes, mountain leeches, 20 foot tall tigers, 50 foot tall bears, and a huge list of other dangerous creatures kept in there." Naruto listed to her.
He was given silence by all the genin.
"Is that how you-"
"I'm just kidding, I'll only start taking you there after a few months!" Naruto laughed at the top of his lungs when he saw he was freaking out his new students. He was going to take them to train in the Forest of Death, but only after they had gotten a little bit stronger. "Teuchi, put whatever they eat on my tab... I'm going to take this one here and get him a bit of training equipment." Naruto stated as he grabbed Lee's shoulder.
"Sir?"
-Later-
"Sir... I can't move very much."
"Good, that means this is going to work. From now on, you'll need my permission to take those weights off, and every week I'm going to make them heavier. If you can't do Ninjutsu or Genjutsu, I'm going to make you a Taijutsu master." Naruto stated as Lee struggled to even walk with the leg braces he was wearing. It wasn't as heavy as what Lee wore during his timeline... yet.
Yet.
Eventually Naruto would get Lee to the same level in the weights he was carrying, but this would be a good start to his physical strengthening. When Lee was stronger, Naruto would make sure to introduce him to Guy in this timeline so that Guy could train Lee in the Strong Fist style.
'Well, I guess I could teach him the Strong fist, I've seen Lee and Guy use it, and I know how the gates work so I can still teach him that.' Naruto thought. "You might not be able to use chakra to make ninjutsu, but you can still use chakra. So, to help ease your burden, you can send chakra to your legs to strengthen them a little. Don't worry Lee, I've got your back. I'll make a fine ninja out of you."
Rock Lee started to cry.
He hugged Naruto.
"Sir yes sir! I'll follow everything you say!"
-The Next Day-
'Shit... this is kind of hilarious.' Naruto deadpanned in his own head.
Rock Lee wasn't sporting a bowlcut this time.
Rock Lee had bought hair gel, and he had spiked his hair to match with Naruto's own hairstyle. He had trimmed his hair to the right length in parts so that his black hair was a perfect match in style for Naruto's golden hair. Lee had also changed his outfit to the outfit that Naruto wore underneath his Jonin vest and outfit. A blue turtleneck, long sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up, and blue pants, Uzumaki spirals on each shoulder, as well as gloves.
Other than missing a Jonin vest, he was wearing almost exactly what Naruto was wearing.
This was hilarious, and at the same time Naruto wanted to kind of cry.
"Sir, how are we going to train today Naruto-sensei sir!" Rock Lee saluted Naruto with, and he whipped out a notepad.
"Well..." Naruto started to walk up a tree.
He walked up to the first branch.
"What the..." Tenten was surprised, as was Rock Lee, only Neji didn't seem surprised by what Naruto had done.
"... before we take any missions, I'm going to teach you how to stick to surfaces with chakra. Lee, this is a training even you can do. You might not be able to make ninjutsu, but you can still control chakra... stick to the tree by sending chakra out through the soles of your feet... and-" Naruto jumped off of the tree and landed in front of them.
When he landed, he tossed 3 kunai behind him and they got stuck in 3 trees.
"Get the kunai." Neji finished for Naruto when he saw each kunai was lodged a good 50 feet up the trees, meaning they would need to be able to go up the tree by a decent amount to get the kunai. Naruto looked at him, before he nodded.
'Neji has the largest chakra pool of them, follow by Lee and Tenten having about the same amount of chakra as each other. Neji also has the greatest control of his chakra out of any of them... he will-' Naruto saw Neji running up the tree, having seen with his byakugan how Naruto had used his chakra, and copied him. Neji instantly mastered how to stick to surfaces, and got the kunai from the tree. He jumped down and handed the kunai to Naruto right then and there, reminding Naruto just what kind of genius he weas. "... seems you managed... Tenten and Lee, I guess you two should work extra hard to keep up with Neji." Naruto smiled awkwardly at them.
How was he suppose to react to that.
"Naruto-sensei, I would like to move onto some personal training from you if at all possible." Neji looked at Naruto and asked respectfully, but there was a lack of personal attachment to the way that he asked.
Geniuses were so boring to teach, Jiraiya was right about that.
Still, he was his teacher.
"Sounds good... if you two start to run out of chakra, you can stop for the day." Naruto told the other two as they started to train.
"Yes sir!"
"Okay Neji... I guess for your training... I guess I could pass down some of the techniques that your father taught me." Naruto lied.
Neji taught them to him.
Neji's personal notebook that Hinata had kept had passed stuff down to him. It was something very previous to his wife, and when Orochimaru had invented Byakugan glasses, his wife had lent him the notebook so that he could practice hyuga techniques and get a grasp of them. It would be easier to just explain that he had lessons from Neji's father than it would be to explain THAT though.
"You... knew my father?"
"Yeah, he taught me some Hyuga stuff as a small little form of rebellion against the Main Branch... and I guess it would be fine for me to teach you what he taught me." Naruto made sure to speak with his eyes closed so that Neji couldn't read a single thing from his eyes. Neji was too stunned to even question Naruto though. "... he told me about this too... your father was a good man, and he loved you a lot." Naruto poked Neji's forehead protector, showing that he knew about the seal hidden underneath.
Neji was too stunned to say a single word.
"Sir, you can use the Gentle Fist?"
"Well... yes and no... I use techniques very similar to it. I can send my chakra into my opponents body to destroy their organs like the Gentle Fist, and I have trained in the Gentle Fist... but I can't target Tenketsu the same as you Hyuga do." Naruto explained, since when he used the Frog Kata, he was technically using the Gentle Fist by sending nature energy and chakra into the opponents body. "If you want, I can teach you the Eight Trigrams Palms Revolving Heaven, and the Eight Trigrams Palms Vacuum Palm, and the Gentle Fist Art One Blow Body." Naruto could teach those techniques to Neji by explaining how to use them.
Neji stared at Naruto.
"You... those are main branch techniques."
"Yeah, wouldn't that make it a great way to rebel if you learned them... a way to tell the main branch "Screw you and this destiny crap"... I mean... your father rebelled against the main branch by teaching me about them. Your father was really good at rejecting destiny... he was a hell of a man." Naruto stated as he placed a hand gently on Neji's shoulder.
Neji seemed choked up.
"He was... if it weren't for..." Neji seemed to hide some information.
Right, Neji didn't know how his father really died yet.
"Oh, right... Hizashi had a message for you, that once you were a Genin he wanted me to pass down to you. I almost forgot, it's been a lot time now." Naruto stated as he thought of something sneaky.
"A message from my father?"
"Well, I don't have the message. Your father left a scroll for you with his brother, Hiashi, and when you got old enough he was suppose to give it to you... since you're done training for the day, why don't you go home and ask him about it." Naruto knew that Hizashi had left a message for Neji, simply because Hinata had told him about it when they were married, and they would often talk about her family and history. He also learned it from Neji's journal that he read. He could abuse this knowledge to help Neji deal with his hatred of the Main branch now, and not let it fester for another year.
The longer he let this hatred fester, the harder it would be to get Neji to let go of his hatred.
"You... you trained with my father... and he trusted you with this message."
"Well of course he did, he wanted to make sure that a few people knew about the message, that way you would be sure to get it."
-The Next Day-
Neji hugged Naruto.
"Thank you."
'Ah... I guess Hiashi was willing to give him the scroll his father left for him.' Naruto thought as he was about to hug Neji back, but Neji instantly let go of Naruto and backed off. The quick hug was all that Neji was going to be able to manage for now as far as showing affection went.
"It would seem that my father kept his relationship with you a secret from even the main branch and his brother, but your knowledge of the scroll was true... my uncle gave me the message when I asked him about it." Neji had read the scroll his father wrote for him, and since Naruto had been the one to tell him the scroll existed that had been proof enough for him. Hiashi had been genuinely surprised by the knowledge that somebody else had known about the scroll. "The Head of the Main Branch has requested that I set up a meeting with the two of you... he wants to thank you for helping me."
Naruto groaned for a moment.
'Right... Hiashi is super harsh and strict, but he's still a loving family man deep underneath those harsh tones... I guess he would want to thank me for helping his family.' Naruto groaned. It would be nice to see Hiashi again, since the man had been his father-in-law for many years, and the two had grown very close during those days. Naruto knew Hiashi very well, and the last time he saw Hiashi had been at his funeral. "Tell him that he can come visit during the team training sessions if he wants."
Naruto heard a whiz.
He caught the kunai that sailed over his shoulder, and he glanced back and saw Tenten was standing at the point in the tree that the kunai had been. He flicked the kunai back at her, and she caught it with a cocky smirk.
*FSSSSSSS*
"OH SHIT!" Tenten ripped the explosive tag from the kunai and jumped far away from it as she escaped an explosion. She landed on the grass, panting and holding her chest in panic from his little prank on her. "Sensei you jerk!"
"You started it." Naruto sang to her.
"You..." Tenten had no response to that.
Rock Lee hadn't even made it 2 feet up the tree, mostly because he was still wearing the leg weights that made it almost impossible for him to move. He was still giving it his very best effort though as he walked as fast as he could, but his progress was going to be very slow going.
"Keep doing your best Lee... okay, while Lee trains here. You two are going to move onto your next training... and that training will be... for Neji... here are scrolls on how to do the Gentle Fist techniques I told you about." Naruto passed the scrolls to Neji. He just copied them from his memory on Neji's notes in his journal.
Neji was unknowingly teaching himself, which was hilarious to him.
"... and me?"
Naruto smiled.
"I'm going to teach you how to perform the Flying Raijin."
Tenten's jaw dropped.
"REALLY!?"
"Well, I've never used it myself, but I have experienced it a few times, and I do know how it is used. There are only a few people alive who know how to use it. It takes a lot of chakra to use, so with your current level... even if you use it, you'll only be able to use it 2 or 3 times before you exhaust yourself." Naruto didn't mention that her reflexes weren't as fast as his father's reflexes, and her chakra control wasn't as good. She would never master the jutsu to the same level as his father had mastered it.
"Really, you'll teach me how to use a legendary jutsu created by the 4th Hokage?!"
"No... because the Flying Raijin was invented by the 2nd Hokage, and improved by the 4th Hokage. Before I teach you the Flying Raijin though... I want you to get more skilled at throwing weapons than you already are, and learn how to use some Fuinjutsu." Naruto stated to her, since he got her excited.
"You'll teach me, a Genin, such an amazing jutsu?" Tenten asked as she leaned forward and touched their faces together.
"If you work hard enough, sure I'll teach it to you. It would be a waste for the jutsu to be lost to time and have no more users for it. Even if you never become as good at it as the 2nd or 4th, I'm sure they would be happy knowing their technique is still being used." Naruto was sure that his father would be happy knowing that somebody in the leaf village was using the technique. It would certainly be a nice little thing, and it was part of why he wanted somebody to learn it, so that he could pass it onto somebody who would be happy to learn it.
"Why don't you use it?"
"Not my style, a ninja should always focus on the basics, and once they learn the basics they should focus on techniques that match their style. Anyways, I'm so fast that people pretty much assume I'm teleporting anyway." Naruto didn't need to use the technique in battle, because now that he was older than when he was 7, he was still the fastest shinobi there was when he used Kurama's chakra, and even faster than that when he used Six Paths Sage Mode.
Almost nobody could compete with him in raw speed, so there was no need for him to learn a speed technique that went against his battle style.
"Why not?"
"Well, if a technique doesn't feel natural to you, then it isn't a technique you should use very often. My partner for 4 years was Kakashi Hatake, a man who knew over 1000 different jutsu... but he only ever used a handful of them in the heat of battle. Using what feels natural to you, is more important than using techniques just because they are powerful." Naruto didn't have a problem with people learning tons of techniques either.
Still, even if you learned 10,000 jutsu, in all likelihood you would only ever really use about 20 of those jutsu in battle.
"Hmmm?" Neji hummed in semi-agreement.
"Let me put it like this... anyone can use 1,000 techniques, but it takes a real master to be able to use 1 technique in 1000 different ways. I would like to make each of you into a master who can use your fighting styles in any way you need to use it." Naruto smiled at Tenten and Neji.
-3 Weeks Later-
"Aaaaaah, a good day off..." Naruto sighed in relief as he relaxed.
Nothing.
No training with genin or missions, just him by himself. He was wearing a white shirt with a red spiral, and beige shorts while he lazed around his apartment doing nothing. It was good for him to relax every now and again so that he could just... unwind. Taking his team on D-rank missions and having nothing at all to do during them was more boring for him than it was his team, and he wasn't even getting paid for the missions that much.
There was a knock at his door.
The door opened up.
Kakashi entered the room.
"Naruto... how has Sensei-life been treating you?"
"... Did you fail another team?" Naruto knew that the answer was a resounding "yes" to that question without Kakashi needing to speak about it. "... So tell me Kakashi... what brings you to visit?" Naruto asked Kakashi with a grin.
Kakashi eye smiled.
"It seems that there has been a mission that will take somebody near Takigakure if they accept it. During our time as partners, you always did mention how much you wanted to go to that village... it's a C-rank mission, so maybe you and your cute little Genin can go there."
Naruto shot up.
"A mission to the Takigakure area was posted, thanks for telling me!" Naruto stripped out of his casual clothes and started to get dressed in his Jonin uniform. He had been waiting for 4 years for a mission to be open for that area, and he was not about to miss out on the chance he was waiting for. "As thanks, when I get back I'll teach you a trick to adding an elemental nature to the Rasengan." Naruto promised Kakashi with a grin.
Kakashi wasn't even shocked by that knowledge.
He had seen Naruto in person during their years as partners use many different elements with not only the Rasengan, but the completed version of it.
If Naruto had a trick to make it easier, he would be happy to learn it.
'Okay, Kurama... tell Chomei to tell his Jinchuriki that she can make a ton of friends if she becomes a Rogue Ninja and follows his instructions. Takigakure HATES Fu with a passion, so nobody would miss her if she went missing.' Naruto was going to use this mission as his chance to collect another Jinchuriki for the village, and to keep her safe from the Akatsuki in the future. Thanks to Chomei chakra that was inside of him, he could communicate with the Tailed Beast whenever he wanted to, but he typically left that to Kurama.
After all, the other Tailed Beasts didn't know "why" he had their chakra, only that he DID have their chakra.
Fu, who Takigakure hated.
Han, who Iwagakure never told anyone was captured out of embarassment.
Roshi, who was currently traveling the world searching to master his Tailed Beast.
Yagura, who was currently the Mizukage and his mind controlled by Obito Uchiha at the moment.
Utakata, a missing ninja from the Mist who was on the road, who nobody would miss.
Naruto could save the lives of these 5 ninja by capturing them and giving them a place to stay in Konoha, which would make it impossible for the Akatsuki to even attempt to try and capture them. Yugito and Killer Bee were both decently safe in the cloud village at the moment, as long as he could eventually meet up with the Raikage and convince him to keep a closer eye on the two of them.
Well, he would have to fake Yagura's death if he wanted to give him a place to stay.
If all went according to place, the Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, and Nine Tailed Beasts would all be located inside of Konoha, and with him there protecting them there was no way that the Akatsuki would be able to harm them. Combined with the fact he KNEW Konoha was capable of changing and accepting Jinchuriki as heroes, he knew he could make happy lives for them if they were to join Konoha.
Naruto blinked.
He slapped his forehead as he ran out the door to go collect the mission.
'That's right, Gaara is somebody else I can save. I'm sure it won't be hard to get him to come over to Konoha! All I would have to do is make sure Orochimaru doesn't kill his dad, and Gaara won't have to become the Kazukage, and then he can come to the leaf village too!' Naruto had forgotten that Gaara still needed to be saved from his own insanity, and there would be no better way to do that than to offer him a home and a family of Jinchuriki.
Or at least a friend.
Even if Gaara didn't stay in Konoha, at least he could get in contact with Shukaku and prevent the Tailed Beast from stopping Gaara from sleeping, then Gaara could adjust and become a more stable person.
He still had so much work to do.
1st. Kidnap Fu and Chomei, while making them seem like Rogue Ninja.
He would go from there after that.
