"So, we need to do this alot differently then we normally would." Xander pointed out when he and Cordelia materialized in the chosen reality. "We can't just look for someone to help, we need to go undercover so we can get in the base and from there find out what went wrong to make this alliance shaky and then figure out how to shore it up."
"And our parents think it's only going to take a day or two to do." Cordelia added. "Which tells me the problem is very immediate. So since you can shape shift and I now know how to glamour, we need to get a good look at a couple of people who work there and copy their images."
"And make sure we don't end up in the same room with them. We're going to need to sneak onto the base. A top secret base like this is supposed to have very tight security. Only I doubt they have a means of keeping people who can teleport at will out. We could teleport into the room we used when we were last at the SGC. Granted it's a different reality, but the base layout should be the same. Then we copy someone's image and try asking some discrete questions. See what that gets us. Information is always a good thing."
"It's probably the best way to start. We may have to adjust on the fly, but part of this to learn how to do this, right?" Cordelia asked.
"Yeah, it is. At least we don't have to build a back story like Thor did when he came to Earth to teach me how to use my axes. I just hope no one asks us any personal questions, that would blow things big time."
"It would, wouldn't it?" Cordelia agreed. "Okay, let's do this. I'm missing David already."
"So am I. I'm so used to the little guy being around. But he's probably having a ball though. Thor said they wanted to do some grandbaby spoiling."
"They better not feed him any junk." Cordelia muttered as they teleported into the same room they'd used before, just in a different reality.
"Okay, I'm going to alter my clothes so I look like a soldier." Xander decided. "You should glamour yourself to look like a soldier too. We'll take on specific images as soon as we can. I hope this works, I'm making it up as I go along."
"If it doesn't work, we'll try something else." Cordelia told him. "We're learning more here then just how to save this alliance, we're learning how to do this job. And it is a job, Xander. Gods have purviews, areas of responsibility. We have to learn these things so we can do our job when we're given our purviews."
"I know, that's why I'm taking it seriously. I don't want to let anyone down. Alright, let's go." They walked out into chaos. People were rushing around. "Something's happened." Xander said softly, looking around. "I think you were right about whatever the problem is happening soon. Looks like it's happening now." They found themselves caught up in a wave of soldiers all moving in the same direction. Which turned out to be the gate room. "It looks like the medical staff has been called out." Xander murmured softly. "Why don't you be an orderly and help Dr. Frazer, I'll stay with the soldiers and see what I can find out."
Cordelia nodded slightly and altered her glamour just enough to blend in with the medical personnel, who were all wearing fatigues like the soldiers. A caduceus pin at her collar appeared. She moved to join the group around Dr. Frazer. Over the last year they'd built on the medical knowledge Xena had shown them. And really, alot of it came down to practically and common sense. It wasn't like she was going to be doing brain surgery or anything. Just following orders like she had with Xena.
Xander altered his own shape shift to include a Sargeant's rank and joined the soldiers waiting to be briefed.
Colonel Jack O'Neill, 'Nice to see a familiar face, even if he has no idea who I am.' Xander thought, moved to the front of the group. "Okay people, listen up! The Tok'ra's latest base has been overrun. They're evacuating to our Alpha Site. There are injuries reported, how bad we don't know. Of bigger concern is two things, members of the Free Jaffa are also there. This might cause some friction. Try not to add to it. Of bigger concern, is how do the Gou'ald keep finding them. The answer to that question might come when the Gou'ald show up at the Alpha Site. Stay alert! Anything concerning, you report immediately! Move out, people!"
Xander and Cordelia moved along with the group. It was only their second trip though a Stargate, but it was definitely a rush. Once on the other side, Xander followed Colonel O'Neill's group and Cordelia followed Dr. Frazer, both listening to everything going on around them and trying to figure out what the problem with this alliance was and hopefully help resolve it.
