Clark had got dressed long before his pa first knocked on the door of his room. "Come in."

His swung the door gently, causing it to make a long creaking sound. Clark was lying backwards on his bed letting his head hang over the foot of it. From there, he stared at the, to him, upside down Johnathan Kent staring back at him with worry lines in his face. Clark greeted him without a smile or frown, but a low quiet voice. "Hi Pa ..."

Johnathan Kent came in and sat on the edge of the bed beside his son's head. "How did you sleep last night Clark?"

Clark shrugged his shoulders bunching up the blanket he was lying on. Johnathan sighed. "I'm sorry all this happened."

Clark sat up and frowned at him. "I thought you said the truth makes things better?"

His pa looked away, then frowned and shrugged. "Eventually, it does ..." He looked back to meet his son's narrowed gaze. He deepened and hardened his voice a touch. "People can't trust you if you lie to them Clark. Truths can be uncomfortable. They can make ya worry. They can make you question yourself, but when someone tells you even the hard truths, you know you can trust them to do so." Clark's pa then looked away from him and softened his voice a bit. "And you've never lied to us. Nor did Moe really."

Clark frowned up at his pa, who in turn stared up at the ceiling in thought. While waiting for an explanation, Clark turned around and let his legs hang over the end of his bed too. Then he leaned forward, rested his elbows on his knees, and continued watching his pa's face.

With a thoughtful frown, his Johnathan Kent continued while no glaring at the ceiling. "I've been thinking on it ... When asked, Moe would say 'his past was a sad story he'd rather not repeat.' Save for the time he worked in Iowa right before coming here. He would talk about that. But he 'only' talked about that part of his life. He told us nothing about his folks, or where he was born and raised ... He never said directly whether he was a human or alien ..."

Clark now frowned and hardened his own voice. "But he 'pretended' to be human, Pa."

Johnathan Kent looked down from the ceiling and sighed. "Yeah ... that's true."

Clark frowned deeper and looked down at his own inhuman hands trying to remember the sting of the reveal after all those months living and working with the alien, when had Moe changed one of his own in front of him. But ... all the rest of the memories from before then crowded into his head too. Then he heard the cattle and fowl stirring outside. He raised his head and tears were forming in his eyes. "I ... I think I miss him Pa ..."

Johnathan nodded. "I think we all will son. Whatever else he was ... he was a quiet, polite, hard worker, who did his job well and asked for little away from the dinner table."

Clark laughed and looked up at his pa. "You think he ate so much because he was an alien?"

Pa Kent shrugged. "I don't know. You sure don't eat much these days."

Clark looked away. Johnathan Kent sighed. "Sorry son."

"I just. I don't 'feel' alien Pa! I mean, I know I feel great under the sun, and don't eat much, and run fast, and lift really heavy things ... and ... and ..."

He felt his pa's hand land on his shoulder. "And those are all good things Clark, helpful things, things that might help ya love your neighbor, when they need a hand."

Clark looked up into his pa's face. "But what about this secret? What if the government wants to treat me like they do Moe, or if others feel like 'I' did if I have to finally tell them I'm an alien? What if one of Ma's fears comes true?"

His Pa squinted at him. "You heard all that?'

Clark flushed red. "I ... uh ... My hearings gotten better too."

Pa Kent looked away at the wall with wide eyes. "I guess we better be careful what we say from now on then."

"But Pa ... what if ..."

His Pa sighed. Then he clapped him on the shoulder. "Right now, there is an awful lot of chores out there, and I need the alien still here to help me with them. We'll live today, and the next, and the next as well as we can loving each other, God, and our neighbor, and we'll see what happens next."

What do you think?

God bless
