A/N: In which Emily texts Beca about something super important,,

Beca had just gotten out of the shower when she got the first text. She figured she'd have time to get dressed and dry and not have her hair dripping down her back before she looked to see who had texted her, but those plans went out the window when her phone buzzed a second time, a third, a fourth...

Each text was progressively more 'aggressive' (the first had just been her first and last name as it was usually written out, proper capitalization and all, but as her eyes scanned the texts on her lockscreen, she saw the person's capitalization and punctuation dramatically decreased) and she smiled to herself. She decided to forgo getting dressed and dried off and instead sat on her bed still wrapped up in her towel, unlocked her phone, and sent a cool and collected reply to her girlfriend.

Hey Em

Don't 'Hey Em' me, Beca! YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID AND WHY I'M YELLING AT YOU IN TEXTS

Do I, though?

She smirked again at that last one, anticipating Emily's reply. A moment later, a picture message came through, and Beca let out a little laugh at it, feeling her heart flutter.

EXPLAIN YOURSELF, BECA MITCHELL

What, I can't surprise my long distance girlfriend with a promise ring I know she's been wanting?

Instead of a text reply, Beca was a little surprised to see Emily's number pop up on her phone screen, but she immediately accepted the call.

"Hey, Em."

"I can't believe you," Emily's voice floated through the phone. Beca could tell she had probably been crying minutes before (or had at least been super overwhelmed in that special Emily way). "You didn't have to...but also how did you...and when...?"

Beca laughed again. "I have my ways, even from across the state."

There was a slight pause. "It was Chloe, wasn't it?"

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"That's why she was complaining about her ring in class the other day, wasn't it? How it didn't fit and she wanted to know what my size was to resize hers."

Hearing Emily talk through and figure it out in real time made the experience even better for Beca, who gleefully listened as Emily worked through it.

"You're a...you...I love you so fucking much."

"I love you so fucking much too, babe. So you like it? It fits properly, yeah?"

"Are you kidding? I love it. It's perfect. I'm never taking it off," Emily babbled excitedly. "Well, maybe except for showers because I don't want it to slip off but otherwise I'm always gonna wear it."

"Good, I'm so glad," Beca replied. She was honestly relieved; she hadn't slept well the last few days, anticipating her present getting to Emily and her seeing it and what her reaction would be and a thousand other questions. She made a mental note to herself to text Chloe right after this call with Emily to thank her and tell her that Emily had fallen for it hook, link, and sinker, and she owed her big time.

"It's just so pretty," Emily continued, her voice cracking a bit at the end. "Thank you again, Becs. I love it so much."

"You're so welcome. I can't wait to actually see it in real life," Beca said. "Less than two months."

"That sounds like so long," Emily whined. "But every time I look at it, I'll get excited and it'll feel like no time at all."

"That's right," Beca replied. "Just look at that ring whenever you're feeling down or missing me, and know I love you more than anything."

"Becs, you're gonna make me cry again," Emily said. So she had been crying, Beca noted.

"Let your feelings out, it's okay," Beca said. "But hey, I'm sitting here in a towel so I should probably let you go and get dressed. But I'm so glad you got it and like it."

"I love it so much," Emily repeated. "Thank you, my love."

"You're so welcome, my love," Beca said. "Talk to you later. Text me anytime."

"Okay. Love you."

"Love you, too."

Beca ended the call, but before actually moving to get dressed, she pulled up another contact in her phone and typed out a quick message.

She fell for it. Just talked to her on the phone, she got it and loved it. Thank you, owe you big time.

This time when her phone buzzed multiple times with multiple messages, these ones less aggressive but still wanting to know every single detail about how Emily had reacted, Beca let it go so she could get dressed.

She could reply to Chloe and tell her all about it once she was dressed and dry.

A/N: Long distance girlfriend and I found the promise rings we want so I wanted to write something to mark the occasion and a real life event from years ago about tricking a friend for their ring size went hand in hand with it, so here we are. Thanks for reading! c:
