A/N: In which Beca and Emily exchange some late night texts;
Beca stared at the three little dots under her and Emily's previous messages that informed her that Emily was typing. She was tired, and felt her eyes threaten to close, but she refused to sleep. They weren't having too serious of a conversation, but every moment spent texting her long distance girlfriend was worth it, even if she was exhausted and felt like she was mere moments away from falling asleep.
Finally Emily's message came through, and Beca forced herself to focus to read it.
Em ❤
I'm just saying, if you were here or I was there, I would definitely sleep better. I can't wait two more months, Becs, I'm getting desperate!
Beca felt a pang in her heart; she knew Emily had sleeping problems due to her anxiety, and had loved to see how well she'd slept on the trip all snuggled in her arms (Emily had said she hadn't remembered the last time she'd fully slept though the night). Now that they were (and had been) back to sleeping in separate beds and hundreds of miles apart, Emily's sleep problems had come back.
I'm so sorry you're having sleeping problems, Em ? I wish I could be there too, but it's not too much longer before we see each other again! Just keep that part in mind, yeah? ❤️
The reply felt hollow and Beca mentally cursed the distance for the millionth time that she couldn't just warp to being in her girlfriend's bed right then and there.
Em ❤
I'm counting down the days! It's just hard, but I know we can do this. We did a year already, so just waiting two more months before I can be in your bed every single night will be nothing ❤️
Beca felt her heart leap; they weren't just seeing each other in two months, they were breaking the distance. Emily would be moving to Beca's state, they would be living together and working together, things were finally happening, and it was so overwhelming but exciting at the same time.
That's right, we got this! Just as long as your mom actually lets you go at the airport.
That part was a joke, but Beca knew Emily's mom would have a hard time letting her go when the time finally came. Not that Emily wouldn't ever go visit her again, but it would be a huge shift for everyone involved.
Em ❤
Haha, right? We've been practicing though, so I think she'll be okay. Especially because she knows I'll be leaving to live with you.
Beca's heart leaped; I'll be leaving to live with you. Some former stranger from the internet was coming to live with her. They were in love and planning on spending their lives together. It was so wild.
I'm sure that helps a lot, yeah. And she can come visit whenever, it's not that far luckily.
She definitely felt lucky that their states weren't too far away and it would be easy to go back and forth to visit Emily's mom and vice versa.
Em ❤
True, true! We're so lucky, Becs ❤️
We are, baby ❤️
There was a pause in the messages, and Beca yawned. She glanced at the top right of her screen, realizing it was a lot later than she thought it was. Emily had probably realized the same thing.
Sure enough...
Em ❤
I hate to do this, Becs, but I can't keep my eyes open. Maybe I'll finally be able to get some sleep tonight? ?
Beca smiled sleepily.
I hope you do, you deserve it, baby. Want to do the goodnight thing?
Em ❤
Yeah, but you start it tonight
Emily had come up with a goodnight 'haiku' that they sent each other every single night, and usually she started it out by sending it to Beca, who then sent it back to her, before they both went to bed (and did it all over again in the morning with a goodmorning text). It was their habit, their routine, and they both loved it.
Beca pulled up her phone's clipboard, nearly clicking the good morning message instead of the goodnight one, and looked over it quickly before sending it to Emily. She felt a brief pang of sadness that always came with sending the goodnight message since she'd gotten back from first meeting Emily; even though they had done that method of saying goodnight longer, nothing beat being able to say goodnight in person; but like she'd told Emily, she also told herself, just a few more months and like everything else, it would be a permanent thing.
She waited a moment before Emily's own goodnight message came in, and even though she'd read it (and said it) every single night before, she took the time to read every single word again.
Em ❤
Pleasant sleep, good dreams
We will talk when the moon sleeps
I love you so much
G'night babe ❤️❤️❤️
"Goodnight, Em," Beca said aloud. She closed out of her messaging app, set her phone next to her on her bed, and closed her eyes.
A/N: My girlfriend wanted Bemily late night texts and I'm a sucker for those because that was one of the first things I wrote for her back before we'd started dating so I couldn't resist the urge to write it again (previously for Jori, this time for Bemily!). Thanks for reading! c:
