A/N: In which Emily realizes the plant she's been watering has been fake;

"Four months!"

"It's not that big of a deal, Em," Beca said, biting her lower lip and trying not to laugh. It was hilarious, but she did feel a little bad that Emily had finally caught on (and that she'd let it go on this long).

"You stood by and watched me water a fake plant for four months," Emily continued, turning to Beca, who nearly lost it again at Emily's face.

"You have like ten other real plants, I don't know how you didn't catch on earlier that this one is fake," Beca said with a slight shrug. She looked at the little plastic plant in question on the counter. It was a mini succulent, set in a white vase with 'You will forever be my always' scribed in a fancy font on the side (Beca had picked it for Emily for one of their dating anniversaries). The first time she'd seen Emily water it (a day or so after she'd given it to her) she debated telling her it was fake, but Emily had looked so happy about her new 'plant' and watering it, that she just couldn't. She'd planned on casually dropping the news that it was fake within the week, but the way Emily had talked so positively about it, how good and green and lively it looked, she just couldn't. Beca honestly hadn't meant to let it drag on for four months, up until about five minutes ago when Emily had pinched one of the leaves to check if it needed water, and it had finally hit her that the plant was fake.

"I'm sorry, Em," Beca said, "but it was just too good to see you keep watering it, I couldn't say anything."

"How did you not laugh every time?" Emily asked, looking at Beca. Her frown had been replaced with a smile now.

"It was so hard," Beca said, "but finally I wanted to see how long you'd keep doing it, so I learned to keep a straight face whenever I saw you watering it."

Emily laughed first, and Beca finally got to join her. It was a good laugh, but Beca managed to get control of herself first.

"Aw hell, this means I owe Chloe $5."

"Why?" Emily asked.

"I bet you'd keep it up for six months, but she said you'd realize earlier than that," Beca explained, pulling out her phone.

"You guys bet on how long I'd water the fake plant for?"

"I had to tell someone, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to not laugh," Beca said. She quickly sent a text to Chloe before putting her phone down again. "I actually told the whole group chat, but Chloe was the only one to put a wager on it."

"I can't believe you did that," Emily said, looking at Beca and giving her a fake pout.

"Aw, Em." Beca leaned in and kissed her lips, "I'm sorry."

"It's okay," Emily said. "But you know I'm going to try to get you back with something now."

"Mmhmm," Beca said, kissing her girlfriend's lips again. "You do that. I'll be waiting."

In the end, Emily couldn't come up with anything. And while she was still a little upset with Beca for not telling her the plant was fake, it still ended up becoming one of her most favorites in her collection.

A/N: This one isn't written from experience (I do have a fake plant that my girlfriend got me, but she told me it was fake) but it's something I'd probably do and absolutely can see Emily doing. Thanks for reading! c:
