Chapter One

"See how Izuku has that secondary joint in his pinky toe?" Doctor Kei points at the x-ray of Izuku's foot. "While it does show up in quirkless individuals more often than not, it is by no means a guarantee that someone does not have a quirk. There's a reason we do additional blood work now. But there are some old fashioned quacks that see this and dismiss any other options." She turns to look at the emotional Midoriya's. "I imagine that's what Doctor Tsubasa did?" Inko nods, while little Izuku looks like he was given a small fragment of hope back.

"Yes. But I wanted to get a second opinion, just in case he missed something." Doctor Kei nods and walks over to a folder, pulling out various papers.

"It's a good thing you did. Being labeled quirkless in this area is akin to a death sentence, especially at that Aldera school. However, the bloodwork did pick up a mutation type quirk in Izuku's blood. However, it doesn't match anything in our records, so we're still figuring out how it works." Izuku looks a little sad, but not defeated like when he first walked in. "If it's no trouble, what quirks do you and his father have?"

"Oh, well my quirk attracts small objects to me. Nothing further than 10 feet away, or heavier than 5 pounds. And his father can breathe fire. Oh, his quirk is a mutation type, while mine is an emitter type, if that helps."

"It does actually. Since he's not doing either of those, we can focus on whether his quirk is a hybrid of your quirks, or a separate thing entirely. We should have a better understanding of his quirk by next Sunday."

"Thank you." Inko has tears in her eyes as she thanks Doctor Kei, while Izuku is still trying to recover from the extreme emotional whiplash he's gone through for the day. When they get home, Inko puts an exhausted Izuku to bed for the night. And with Doctor Kei's comment on Aldera, decides to look up a few things. By the time she's gone to bed for the night, she's resolved to pull Izuku out for a better school, and tell Mitsuki as well. Legally, she can't quite do anything, but she doesn't want either her son, or Katsuki, to be exposed to that kind of environment growing up. She's just glad that Hisashi sends them so much, even if she has been reluctant to use much of it since the divorce. Luckily, tomorrow is Saturday, so Izuku can stay home while she looks up other schools.

The first thing Inko does after making breakfast for Izuku is call Mitsuki about Aldera, who's also worried about what Inko found and says she'll probably have her family move a little closer to Mustafa private school, and Katsuki can go there instead. Inko, however, can't afford moving and getting Izuku into that particular school, so she might move back to her hometown, Naani, and have Izuku go there, since it was always a friendly place. Both women are a little sad that their boys won't be able to hang out anymore, since Inko's hometown is out in the country, but they make promises to call regularly if they can.

The next week is hectic as Inko pulls Izuku from Aldera, and while looking for a home in Naani, she ends up finding her childhood home for sale, and for relatively cheap too, so she buys the house and starts going through the process of having Izuku integrated to the school there. Before she knows it, it's already next Sunday, and she's back in the hospital with Izuku to meet Doctor Kei again.

"Well, little Izuku here certainly has a unique quirk." Doctor Kei pulls out the files to show Inko. "Turns out that his body actually absorbs and metabolizes solar radiation. Since we only had the one sample, we weren't able to determine the long term effects this might have on him, we were able to determine that as long as he can get a few hours of sunlight every day, he doesn't need to eat, or even sleep." Inko is happy that it's nothing dangerous, but is a little confused.

"Does that mean his quirk mutated separately from mine and Hisashi?" Doctor Kei shrugs a little.

"Without doing tests in both of your quirks, I wouldn't be able to tell. If Hisashi's fire breath is generated by storing solar radiation, then I could see how a hybrid would result in Izuku's quirk." The rest of the visit goes well, and Izuku decides to name his quirk Sunflower, since his mom has been growing mini-sunflowers as long as he could remember, and she always looked so happy while tending to them. In Izuku's four year old logic, if he was a sunflower too, then he could always make his mom happy. Inko just hugged her adorable child and sent a few pictures of him to Hisashi while updating him about Izuku's quirk. From there, the Midoriyas moved to Niina, and Izuku had an easy time adjusting to the new environment thanks to how friendly his new classmates were.

Ten Years Later

"Izuku! Dinner's ready!" Izuku pauses in the middle of pulling Mister Masutaro's pickup truck out of the mud before resuming, careful not to dig his fingers into the metal. After a few seconds, the mud finally releases its hold and Izuku places the truck back on the road, then brushes the mud off of the places it could cause problems.

"There you go, Mister Masutaro." Izuku beams at the elderly man, despite being covered in mud himself. "I can't stay too long though; Mom just called for dinner." Masutaro just chuckles.

"Well, I wouldn't keep a young man away from his dinner. Thank you, Midoriya. You and your mom like the muffins my granddaughter bakes, don't you?"

"Oh, you don't need to do that, sir."

"Nonsense. It's always good to show people that you appreciate them. That's why heroes get paid, you know. They get paid by the government, who collects our taxes. But we also buy their merchandise. That's how we show our support and thanks to the heroes for everything they do, though there are more than a few folks that take it a little too far." He smiles and pats Izuku on the shoulder. "Anyway, thank you again. I'll have Noya deliver a few muffins either tomorrow or the day after, depending on how busy she is."

"Alright. Thank you." Izuku smiles, then brushes the mud off of himself and runs home, covering the couple hundred yards in a few seconds. "Sorry, mom. Mister Masutaro got stuck in the mud, so I was helping him. I need to wash up before I eat." Inko doesn't even turn around from where she's finishing setting the table.

"That's fine, dear. Is he alright? How'd he get stuck?" Izuku changes his clothes and washes his face and hands quickly, but thoroughly before joining his mom at the table.

"Other than a sore knee, he said he's ok. And I guess he was trying to avoid a deer that ran across the road. Oh, and he's going to have Miss Noya bring us muffins as thanks. He said they should get here either tomorrow or the day after."

"Oh, I love her muffins!" Inko makes her plate of food before speaking again. "Tomorrow's when you head off to take the entrance exam, right?" Izuku nods through a mouthful of food.

"Yeah, everyone in school has been saying I'll get in without question. And while I am happy that they're so confident in me, I can't discount the fact that UA has thousands of people trying to get in."

"That's true, but I've rarely seen a quirk that is as well rounded as yours is at such a high level. In fact, the only other person I can think of is All Might." Izuku thinks about it for a bit before flexing an arm for a few seconds, then deflating a little.

"It would be nice if I had All Might's muscles to go with my strength." He takes another bite of food while thinking some more. "Although, I've been comparing current videos of All Might with some of his older ones, and he's shrunk down a little bit. But he's still bigger than in his debut video. Does that mean he has equipment that allows him to workout properly, even at his level of strength?" Inko smiles at her boy. He may be on the short and slim side due to both Hisashi's and her own genetics, but he's still fairly muscular thanks to how his quirk works and the various things he helps the older folk around town with.

"You'll be fine, dear. You'll fill out soon enough, and if UA is as good as they say they are, then they'll have the equipment to help you improve. Now, hurry up and finish eating. You need to make the train before they close down for the night. You remember which hotel you're staying at, right?" Izuku nods before eating faster, then grabs a second plate and manages to finish that helping before Inko can finish her plate of food. Once she's done eating, and is putting food away, Izuku snatches all of the dirty dishes before she can grab any and starts cleaning them, making sure to be thorough despite the speed he's moving. "Izuku, I could've done the dishes tonight."

"It's my chore, mom. And I'm fast enough to make it to the train, even after this."

"I know, but I worry." Once Izuku is done with the dishes, he makes sure to grab a change of clothes, along with a toothbrush and other things he'll need for a three day stay, then tells Inko goodbye and rushes off to make it to the train station.
