When Reina awoke she sat up and looked out through the window. The sky had turned a deep gray and it was getting hard to see things not in the cabin's immediate vicinity. She was still groggy from sleep and also didn't recognize the elephant in the room, sitting up and staring down the window with her. She was so focused on the storm that she didn't notice him at all. As she rubbed her eyes, however, her mind started to race as she discovered... The boy is awake! I need to get Hazuki up.

She wasn't gentle at all and rattled his whole body in order to get him up and moving. She was scream whispering something into his ear "He's up! Get up! Now!" Only on the word 'now' did he rouse from his slumber, muscle memory serving as his guide to not get hit. "Huh?" He sat up in confusion not recognizing why she was so concerned about things until she instructed him to look out the window. He almost missed it and then— "oh." He saw him awake.

Hazuki completely jumped from his sitting position not knowing what to do now that he and Reina were put into this position. He tried to put on his friendliest voice possible to speak to the kid "uh, hey, kid. Glad to see you're awake." He rubbed his scruffy facial hair in an attempt to think on what to say to the kid next. The kid didn't seem to recognize they were there before and tilted his head in their direction. For the first time, the couple could see what the kid was like. Sure they knew what he looked like from all the work they did on helping him but you can't really feel out a personality from an unconscious body. As he turned towards them Hazuki got a good look: he had honey brown eyes that seemed confused, his eyebrows stretching upwards and his lips in a pout. Hazuki's quirk allowed him to sense something's general emotions but he didn't need to use it to realize the kid was confused. The kid opened his mouth to speak and said "hi?"

"So, kid, what happened to you?" Kid's face scrunched up in confusion and both could tell he couldn't give a clear answer. What he actually answered surprised them both more "I don't remember. My memory's all fuzzy. I can't remember anything." The couple traded worried glances and came to the same conclusion: he has amnesia. The kid put a hand to his cheek and tried to think some more but to no use. Nothing was popping up in his head at all. "You can't remember anything? Do you mean about your fall or something else?" The kid glanced at them and clearly looked scared and he shouted "I can't remember anything! Who am I?!" He felt his wife's emotions flare up with the kid's and almost tripled when he started crying. She was also clearly alarmed and when he used his power on the kid, he could tell the kid's panic was real. I'm not the best at comforting people but if this goes on Reina could get hurt as well. He held his hands up towards the boy and started whispering silent comforts to him in hopes it might calm him down a bit. He slowly approached him making sure not to alarm him and the boy practically wrangled Hazuki down with him, using Hazuki as his personal teddy bear.

"His sobs slowly turned silent and he had completely stopped crying after a while. As Hazuki whispered one last 'it's okay' he gently let go of the kid. The kid looked back at him with silent eyes as he moved back to sit next to his wife. "Now that you're feeling okay, do you mind telling us anything you know?" The kid seemed to be struggling to answer so he decided to push one more thing to convince him "if we know anything about what happened then maybe we can figure out who you are." The kid looked down at the blanket surrounding him and back at the people greeting him with smiles and he decided to say something "the only thing I remember before I woke up here was a sense of 'falling'." The couple raised a brow "falling?""yes. I felt wind on my arms pushing up." The couple were theorizing in their heads for a moment before the kid continued "it was like that for a while. Until I hit something..." the kid gulped down something and stuttered onwards "i-it hurt a lot. And then it happened a lot of times and it wouldn't stop." Hazuki could sense his wide tensing up again. It's fine Reina! It's fine! He squeezed her hand "and then I heard a thud and I stopped moving. I couldn't open my eyes before that but when I did, I saw abr style="box-sizing: border-box;" /Grey Sky." He stopped talking.

Hazuki surmised that that must have been around when he found him. Probably a little bit after I went hunting. I would have noticed if something was falling within my range. "That's... all I remember." Hazuki sensed the kid was embarrassed "I see. Well we are Mr. and Mrs. Kobayashi. Nice to meet ya kid." he extended a palm towards him and moved his lower body stumbling a bit. "HEY! HIS LEGS ARE STILL BROKEN YOU DUMBASS!" Reina hit him over the head and spared a glance towards gon "sit back down. I'll be back for you in a minute."

After a very thorough beatdown that Gon most definitely did not overhear, the two walked back. Hazuki's face was bruised all over and he was limping towards Gon mimicking what he said before he got beat over the head "n-nice to meet you kid." This time he got close enough so that the kid wouldn't have to stand up, and hazuki extended his hand. Gon wasn't sure what to make of it at first but he could tell these were nice people so he accepted his handshake and finally let out a smile that wasn't left unnoticed by the kobayashi's.

Line break!

As he stared out the window, he could sense that the storm wasn't going to end anytime soon but he wasn't sure why he had that knowledge or how he acquired it. He looked over to the couple, now known to him as the kobayashi's and watched as they cooked something. It was starting to smell really good. "Done!" shouted the clearly overexcited man. Reina gestured toward the kid "make sure you cut some for him." Hazuki looked shocked, almost not realizing there was another person in their house. "Right right."

When Hazuki finished cutting up the meat, Reina went to gather plates for them. She brought back 3 for them and as she dished their meals out Gon noticed her purposefully putting more meat on one plate. She grabbed the other two and pushed them to the side and grabbed the bigger plate and handed it straight to Gon.

"I thought that one was for me?!" she shot him her usual death glare and put the plate on the table beside Gon. Ignoring her husband's protests she gave Gon a sweet smile "if you need help eating let me know." "uh before you go I have a question." "what is it?" Gon placed a finger on his chin." What meat is this?" Reina placed her hands on her hips." That's one of the prey my husband caught." If he doesn't remember anything at all then that must mean he probably doesn't know what it is. "That one's called a—" "Rabbit, right?" her hands dropped from her hips "huh? I thought you said you couldn't remember anything at all." i thought so as well but for some reason that one word came naturally to me." he stared up at the ceiling and started to think but as soon as he started steam erupted throughout the room and he realized he probably shouldn't think anymore.

"Omg! This is so good! What did you do to it!?" for once hazuki wasn't the one being a doofus, and gon's personality was starting to shine through. "I just roasted it, kid." gon's eye brows started to rub against each other "no way! This is way too good to have just been roasted!" he almost jumped up from his seat and went to take a look at it when he felt pain in his legs and winced. "Careful sweetie you'll hurt yourself." Gon gritted his teeth and under his breath whispered "noted." Reina gave Gon a lookover both up and down and decided on doing something "my quirk allows me heal any injury so after we eat i'll try to fix your legs.'' She gave him a warm smile but realized he didn't understand "quirks are a special power most people get when they're young. You don't have anything visible to show what your quirk is so you must not have a mutation quirk""i see." Gon looked over at Hazuki who was standing up and said "I'd wager your quirk is probably why you survived that fall. Funny quirk isn't it" The reason he was getting up was because he was about to run " she shot him a death glare, and gon watched as she chased him around as he finished his meal.

As he put his plate down, he noticed a visibly bruised Mr. Kobayashi sitting with his knees together and a much kinder Mrs. Kobayashi approached him "lay down for me would you?" He obeyed "yes ma'am!" He watched with curious eyes as she unwrapped his legs "what are you doing?" Hazuki waved his arms in the air at him frantically and she said "please stay quiet." Gon didn't really know much about social cues so he almost didn't get it but seeing Hazuki's franticness he decided to stay silent.

"Alright, that's one leg down." Gon moved his good leg up and down and shouted "thank you Mrs. Kobayashi!" Hazuki had expected her to lash out but she didn't instead adorning the sweet smile Gon had expected "you're welcome. I'll have to do your other leg later though, I'm feeling quite tired." "That's fine!" Reina had been sitting on her knees before this but when she got up, Gon noticed her legs were shaking. He didn't comment on it as she dropped onto her makeshift bed and tucked herself in.

Linebreak!

The rest of the day was silent with hazuki performing idle tasks and gon observing the weather as it changed. Hazuki was toiling his day away wondering what to do with the kid as his wife woke up again. This time she didn't seem so eager to heal him but she forced her way towards Gon again. Hazuki eyed her and realized what she was doing "not yet honey! You need to at least get some food in you." she didn't seem to realize what she was doing until hazuki said something "huh?" he rushed over to her and grabbed his wife by the shoulders, sitting her back down on their bed. She's getting delirious. Hazuki grabbed one of the prey he had hunted and started cooking it.

Once he was finished, it seemed like she had woken up enough to eat so he fed her one of the bigger portions and he gave the other big portion to Gon. Gon almost refused but he wouldn't have that and insisted he eat it. Gon eventually gave in and accepted the food thankfully. Geez am I the only one with common sense around here?

"I know you didn't only stop me because of food." she paused "and I know it's too soon and you're worried but I really want to do this." She shot a hazuki that really determined expression, that way he knew she wasn't letting up "fine. Have it your way then. But don't blame me later when you pass out for a day." gon, mouth still full of food said "pass out for a day?" "first thing, don't talk when your mouth's full and second thing, yes. When I overuse my ability it wears me out and one time I passed out for a day." Gon, taking note of her first claim, finished his food and talked, this time, without food in his mouth "I see..."

Once he was completely done with everything she came up to him once more "now that you're finished with your food, let's go."

Line break!

Gon watched in amazement as the pain gripping his legs slowly went away and was replaced with a warm, soft, feeling. Reina appeared satisfied with herself and removed her hands from his legs. "I'm done." Gon wasn't stupid and he had recognized from the times she treated him that she was dead serious when treating someone and seemed to relax more when she wasn't treating anybody. He realized from this that she wouldn't care anymore if he was loud and active now that she was finished "thank you so much Mrs. Kobayashi!" Gon gently walked off the bed careful not to hurt his legs but when the pain never came he jumped up into the air in excitement and ran around the room excited about getting to finally move.

"Yes!" He ran around like a wild animal and both Hazuki and Reina couldn't help but grin at the now mostly healthy child.

After the child had expended his energy and fell asleep, the Kobayashi's had to decide what to do after the storm had passed. "1 more day, right?" Hazuki glanced out their window "from what I can tell yeah. Though, it may pass sooner, after we fall asleep tomorrow is what I would guess." They had run out of little tasks to do to pass the time so now it was just time to wait. "Should we leave first thing after the storm passes?""I would wait a bit. The mud may make it harder to get out of here." For the first time since the whole lost kid situation happened Reina acted annoyed, not at her husband or anyone in particular but a bitchy kind of annoyed "I'm gonna drive myself crazy waiting here though!" He smiled at her childishness "don't make fun of me!" He devolved into a hearty laugh "usually, you're the one scolding me for acting like a kid." Her eyes narrowed and she shouted" and usually we don't have a hurt kid in our home!" She sighed, done with Hazuki's bullshit "you know why I'm acting like this." "I do. I guess I'm just surprised. You haven't been this happy since..." they both dropped their happy smiles "yeah."

"Just make sure to get some good rest tomorrow, ok?" She sat down in their bed "yeah. I know I'm gonna need it."

Line break!

As the final day passed, they all watched as the storm went through a variety of different phases: sometimes it was just sprinkling, and other times it was downright pouring but as the night approached they all realized it was coming to an end. One by one.

Hazuki was the first to realize. He grew up in nature all his life and knew how to recognize the signs, so it came easy to him. Surprisingly, the second one to realize wasn't the kid. Gon had been too busy admiring his newly working legs to look out the window, trying everything he could with them. Kids sure know how to make themselves busy, Hazuki thought.

As the day came to an end and all of them were tucked into their beds, Hazuki stole one glance at the window and realized it would be over soon and fell asleep.

Line break!

"Gon woke with a jolt as he saw the dark haired woman standing next to his bed shaking him awake. "Good morning." After Gon rubbed his eyes he reciprocated the gesture "good morning!" "The storm is gone." He turned his head toward the window "oh. It is." "Hazuki found some old clothes of mine for you to wear. They may be a little big but you can't wear the same thing all the time." Gon beamed "ooh really? Let me see them!" Reina grabbed the ones she thought he would most like and handed them to him. "Hazuki is still out so you can change now. I'll turn around for you." "Ok!"

As he got changed Reina had the urge to ask a question "hey kid." He stopped changing and looked in her direction "hmm?"" Do you remember your name? We can't keep calling you 'kid' all the time." He turned back and resumed changing "I don't remember it." He put on the way too big shirt for him and was finished "Alright. Done!" She turned to look at him and was distracted by his not fitting anything at all "I'll find you a belt."

As she returned with it, she knelt down and wrapped it around him "if you don't remember your name, we'll have to come up with one for you.""ok then!" He accepted that rather easily. As she fastened his buckle she noticed his still oversized shirt and tucked it in. She was brainstorming ideas for a name with she noticed the door had swung open and Hazuki had walked in. "Done scouting?" "Yeah. Should be good to walk through." Reina got off her knees and said "let's go then!"

As the mud trailed through their shoes, none of them had a particularly joyful look on their face. But they all tried to keep their minds off it. Gon sightseeing, Hazuki noticing the wrecked environment all around them, and Reina thinking about names. "Do you have any ideas for it?" Gon asked. Hazuki wasn't let in on the whole name thing so he was confused "ideas for what?" One particular squelch beneath her shoe had her face twist more "while you were out, me and the kid were talking. I asked him if he remembered what his name is and he said he didn't so I've been trying to come up with ideas for him." "If that's the case I have an idea."

"Gon perked up at his idea and so did Reina "Really what is it!" Gon shouted in excitement. "How about Aki?" "You can't be serious. That's way too on the nose of a name." Just as she was about to scold him Gon spoke up "that sounds fine. Aki it is!" Her eyes widened in shock and Aki stared back with a bright glow in his eyes. "I see. It's nice to meet you, Aki." She extended a hand towards him and he responded in kind "it's nice to meet you too, Mrs. Kobayashi!"

Author's notes: From here on the story actually starts. These first few chapters were a whole lot of set up but I hope you enjoyed it!

The reason Reina was surprised about Hazuki's shitty name choice was because author is very unoriginal and just found the Japanese translation for bright and ran with it.

my friend is watching Hxh and I want to get as much down as possible for when he reads the fic.
