The Specter Family Chronicles

Chapter Twenty-Eight: Celebrating Love and Stealing Thunder

April 21st, 2018

The Plaza Hotel Ballroom

Mike and Harvey's

Engagement Party

Manhattan, New York

Donna had put together another marvelous event. When Harvey and Mike arrived at The Plaza Hotel, three hours before their engagement party, and saw what Donna and Helena had done, they were caught gaping at the ballroom by the two women, who had scolded them for spying. Harvey had booked the Presidential Suite for his family. It had three beds, and the kids could all have their own rooms. Lily and Richard had been shocked when their son had told them he had booked them all this room, but they had taken advantage of it, they called it 'their chance to indulge'. Mike smiled, clapping Richard on the back, and promising that he was going to 'make Harvey sing' tonight, to which Richard conspiratorially winked at him, and Harvey looked between the two of them with a glare and a raised eyebrow, whilst his father just patted his shoulder, and walked off. Mike grinned at him, thankfully Donna had perfect timing, and he could run off before Harvey could get out of him what he was planning. Jessica had also been planning something. She felt bad for passing Mike over for the Junior Partner promotion, and Alex Moore had been at her for days about it, even going as far as to remind her about their case, which brought Calder to the firm, which had been mostly Mike's work. Given that Alex was still asking questions, she had formulated another plan. A spot had opened, another of their Junior Partners had left the firm, and Jessica had asked Alex if he thought she should nominate Mike. Fearing what might happen if they passed him over again, she had agreed, and was planning on telling both Harvey and Mike tonight. But that isn't to say that she is at peace with the choice. Of course, she knows that Mike deserves it. He works harder than anyone, but the risk that this is putting on them… she isn't a peace with that. Louis had said something to her though, that had stuck with her a little. He had said that 'they're a team, a family. They stick together… that Mike isn't a fraud… he just never went to law school'. That had stuck with Jessica, and she took that into consideration as she approached Harvey, who was chatting with Donna about table arrangements. They still have three hours before the party, but they're all here to help set things up, and take advantage of the hotel's facilities, that had been offered to them along with the use of the ballroom. Mike had gone off to help Helena with something, Harvey and Jessica had moved to a quiet corner or the ballroom, where she explained what was going on. Harvey looked between her and Louis, who nodded. He smiled and told Jessica that he's voting for Mike. He isn't up-voting anyone else. He wants Mike. She nodded, smirking, and told him that it's already done.

Mike looked amazing, and he smelt amazing. Harvey was pawing at him in the car on the way to the hotel, whilst Mike was trying hard to keep his fiancée at bay. Mike was wearing black skinny jeans, with a black button-down shirt, and his hair was done nicely. He had put on some of his Clive Cristian cologne, which he had brought on a whim, but apparently it was the right thing to do, because Harvey had taken one look at him when he had met him in the kitchen, putting his watch on, and his jacket, and backed him up until he was against the wall between their front door and the hallway closet, burying his head in Mike's neck, and sniffing. It had taken everything in Mike's willpower to push the man away, and get out of the apartment, but the thirty-minute car ride probably didn't help, because Harvey kept pawing at him, and sniffing him, and he tried not to get turned on, because he's wearing skinny jeans and it would be really obvious if he was tenting. When they reached The Plaza Hotel, and Ray had parked, the three of them exited the vehicle. Of course, Harvey had invited Ray. He's part of their whacky family, even told the man so, and he was moved to tears by the admission, hugging Harvey and thanking him. Mike had just snapped a picture, smirking, and heading inside before Harvey could grab him again. When they entered the ballroom, there was shouting and cheering, and then they were accosted by Donna and Helena. They thanked both women, who just winked at one another, and made their way around the tables, thanking all their guests as they went. Mike stopped to have a conversation with Richard and Lily, asking how his health was going, and although he grumbled about his new diet, he was smiling. It had been terrifying, Harvey getting that phone call, driving to Greystone, and waiting to hear if Richard was going to make it. He didn't have the opportunity to wait to find out if his parents were going to make it, they were just gone. But he knows that feeling. He pushes that aside, he doesn't want to dwell on anything unhappy, because tonight is happy. They're engaged, they're getting married, he's happier than he's ever been, and so is Harvey, which is evidenced when he wraps his arms around Mike, lifts him off the ground and spins him around, before kissing him, to the whooping sounds of their friends and family members. Mike couldn't keep the smile off his face, as Donna led them over to their table, which she had tastefully decorated and not (she had teased that she was going to cover it with fake dildos and other things) distastefully as she had teased.

'Donna, this is amazing. Thank you,' Mike said, hugging the red head

'Well, you both deserve to be happy. This is my way of making sure that you are,' Donna said, and the two men shared a look

'We are happy Donna. I love you,' Harvey whispered the second part to Mike's kissing his cheek, Donna pretended to gag

'I love you too. If you're going to make stupid noises Donna, you can leave. I want to kiss my fiancée,' Mike said, pressing his lips to Harvey's

Most of the night was spent with people talking, and at eight, the DJ arrived, and the music started. Rachel had come over to Mike, who was shaking his head, and saying no to the woman, but she grabbed his hand, asking him to dance with her. Mike looked at Harvey for help, but the man just winked at Rachel, and let her drag Mike over to where everyone else was dancing. Mike hugged Molly, and took her hand, spinning her around, and laughing when she spun into Damien, who just grabbed her and dipped her, before helping her back up, smirking at his wife. Mike chuckled at the look on Molly's face, then felt a pair of arms wrap around his waist, and kisses being pressed to his neck. Mike turned around in the arms, and smiled, kissing Harvey. Donna came over, hands on her hips, demanding that Harvey dance with her, to which the older lawyer just reminded her of who her boss is. She smirked, and reminded Harvey of who his secretary was, and just how much power she has. Mike was watching the interaction, arms wrapped around Harvey's neck, reluctant to let go, but Harvey apologised to him, and said that he had 'promised Donna a dance'. Mike smiled, releasing his fiancée, and turning back to find Rachel, who was at the bar getting a drink. They hadn't really had a chance to hang out in a long time. Mike had wanted to just have a "girls' night", but he and Harvey had been so pre-occupied, and he'd felt horrible for not catching up with her. They sat at the bar catching up, whilst out of the corner of his eye, Mike was watching Donna and Harvey dance. Helena was surveying the room, a proud smile on her face. The current song ended, and another one came on, to which Rachel loudly exclaimed that "she loved" and dragged Mike back onto the dance floor. He's not a good dancer, like a lot of things, so he just swayed side to side, pretending to know what he's doing. At nine o'clock, Helena took the stage, and made everyone take their seats. There had been little nibbles of food, and then dinner had been at seven-thirty. Now, apparently, it's time for speeches. Helena called Donna up to the stage with her, and everyone clapped as the two women cleared their throats and began their long speeches. Helena told everyone how proud she is of her brother, and how much he has changed since he met Mike, that she honestly never thought they would ever be at Harvey's engagement party. Donna said something along the same lines, then both women curtseyed and left the stage. Damien was up next, and Harvey spent the next ten minutes cringing, whilst Mike was almost in tears from laughter.

There was a speech from Richard and Lily, both of whom spent fifteen minutes listing all of Harvey's embarrassing childhood moments, and then the last five lamenting on how amazing Mike is, and how Harvey is 'lucky to have found him'. Harvey whispered in his fiancées ear to 'not let that go to his head', but Mike just smirked back at him. Jessica made a speech on behalf of their "work family" and surprised everyone in the room with the announcement that Mike had been formally promoted to Junior Partner, causing him to choke on the mouthful of water he'd just taken. Alex stood up and cheered, running over to hi-five a still stunned Mike. He didn't know what to think or say. Harvey seemed to be just as confused as he was and had accosted Jessica on her way back to her seat to ask her what was going on, and how this had even become possible. Harvey and Mike were going to make a speech last, but they put the music back on for a time, to let everyone settle, before the final speeches from Mike and Harvey. Once the Name Partners had finished talking, and Mike had calmed down, Jessica explained what had happened. That there was another opening for a Junior Partner, and that if she didn't promote Mike this time, people would start asking questions… real big questions. Mike asked her if this was safe. If they're going to be okay, because Junior Partner means that he gets his own clients, his own cases, some of them could be considered dangerous for someone like him, and he knows that the firm is in enough jeopardy as it is. Jessica just told him that she couldn't pass him over, Alex Moore had started questioning her about why she had chosen Gretchen over him last time and accused her of 'rigging' the votes for Mike to lose. Harvey just said that he would vote for Mike, because he can't betray the man he loves again, and Jessica had taken stock of how many votes Mike would've gotten, if she hadn't upvoted for Gretchen. Both Harvey and Jessica told him they would work out the details at work on Monday, but Mike was worried. This would also mean that Harvey is 'no longer his immediate boss', which he told the older man, who just raised an eyebrow and smirked at him. At quarter to ten, Mike and Harvey got up to make their speeches to the raucous crowd of family and friends. Harvey took the Mike first, thanking his family. Then he let Mike finish off.

'Thank you all for coming along to help us celebrate our engagement. Thank you, Donna and Helena who worked, so hard to put all of this together. Our work family, Jessica, Rachel, Alex, Louis… everyone at Pearson, Specter, Litt… Thank you for celebrating with us. Harvey's family, who came from far and near, they'd drop anything to help us out, and we love them all. Richard and Lily, thank you for raising such a wonderful man in Harvey… don't get a big head Harvey…,' Mike added onto the end, earning a kiss from his fiancée, and awes from their crowd. They didn't see Marcus and Helena arguing at the back of the room

'What are you talking about Mike, Harvey was born with a big head,' Damien shouted, earning some chuckles, whilst Harvey just flipped him off, suddenly Marcus bombarded the stage

'Marcus… now is not the time or place. You had your chance earlier, but you didn't take it. Don't do it here… don't take this away from Harvey,' Helena was saying, whilst the two lawyers just looked at them, confused. Marcus apologised then turned to the room.

'I just want to let everyone know that Renee and I got married last week. We went to Vegas and got married. We didn't want anyone to be there, now you all know,' Marcus said, leaving the stage suddenly, whilst Mike just managed, a 'thanks for coming', before the music started playing again

There wasn't anything anyone could do. Harvey, and the rest of the Specter Family met in the large hotel room that Harvey had gotten for them. Marcus was shouting to the rest of his family members, about why he and Renee did what they did, and Lily asked why he wouldn't even want his own parents there. Renee seemed to be angry at Marcus also, she hadn't wanted it to go down like this, she doesn't even know Marcus' family that well yet, and especially Harvey and Mike. She didn't want to take this away from them, but her husband… he didn't seem to care that he had, essentially, 'stolen Harvey's thunder' as Helena had referred to it as. Mike and Harvey arrived not long after, to Marcus' tirade. Richard was pacing back and forth, arms crossed, until Molly asked him to 'please sit', and he did, resting his elbows on his knees, head in his hands. If Mike had the choice, of having his parents and Grammy at his wedding, he would take it, no matter what. For Marcus to choose not to have his family there… he just can't justify what they would be something that someone could do. Harvey chimed in then, with his casual 'pissed off' tone, and Marcus came back at him with someone equally as mean, then Harvey had gone and offhandedly said something about Mike's parents, which plummeted the room into silence, and Harvey didn't realise what he'd said until he played back what had just happened in his mind. He turned to look at Mike, who wasn't looking at him, and moved away from him when he went to hug him, then told the room that he "might not have any family, but he'd sure as shit choose to have them at his wedding if he did", then he left the room, slamming the door. Harvey accepted the punch from Helena, and almost slapped Marcus when he tried to use his point to justify why he did what he did. Mike had decided to go back down to the party, which was dispersing slowly, but he needed a drink, and he wasn't going to stay up there and let Harvey remind him of the things that he doesn't have. Donna caught him as he entered the ballroom, asking if everything was alright, to which Mike just nodded, smiled, and went to get a drink. Alex and he chatted about how 'exciting' it is for Mike to finally get his "well deserved" promotion, and Mike just ordered another shot to try and make himself forget about that part of Jessica's speech. Harvey and the others came back down ten minutes later, and they could tell that there was a strain between Mike and Harvey. At about midnight, the party began to wrap up. Mike and Harvey headed out to the waiting town car.

They hadn't said anything as they rode in the town car back to the Condo, but Harvey did grab on to his hand as soon as they were inside the car. Mike let him, and he held on tight as well. What about Marcus' announcement had pissed Harvey off? Was it simply because he "stole their thunder" or was it because he was the youngest sibling, and there is a stupid rule about the youngest "getting married last" or something. Sure, Harvey had said some terrible things to him, in front of his family, and his mother had kicked her son, and told him that he is being an asshole, and there was a look on Harvey's face when she said that… like he'd been operating without knowledge about something, and someone had finally opened his eyes to his behaviour. Despite his fiancée's foul mood, Mike had managed to enjoy himself. Their friends and Harvey's family… which he supposes he can now also consider his family, had been there to help them celebrate, and sure there was drama, but all families have drama… not that I would know that… which Harvey oh so kindly pointed out… Mike thought to himself. They're going to fight about this… but not tonight. He isn't in the mood to fight about the horrible things his boyfriend said whilst he was semi-drunk/angry at his brother. No, they will fight about that tomorrow. When they get home, Mike is going to have sex with his fiancée, because that is what he's been wanting to do since he saw Harvey earlier this evening. Donna and Helena had done an amazing job at planning this whole thing, and despite everything that is going on, it was a wonderful night. The words that Harvey had said to him were swimming around in his mind "don't know what it's like to have siblings"…"families aren't all just happy and sappy Mike… not that you would know" … whatever had prompted that response from Harvey, he wanted to know, because since they started dating the man has changed… but that… that was something the old Harvey would say… asshole Harvey who didn't care about Mike, and thought that the blue eyed man caring about anyone else was "ridiculous". They got back to the Condo late. Harvey was still in a foul mood, and Mike just wanted to say something to make it better, but there wasn't anything that would, and he knew that. He found Harvey in the bedroom, taking his shoes off. He'd had enough of this mopey Harvey. His boyfriend turned around as he entered the room, and Mike took the opportunity, pushing Harvey back onto their bed, straddling his waist, leaning down so their faces were close. He smirked at Harvey; whose hands had gone to his hips.

'Harvey, I don't think that Marcus should have announced his marriage at our engagement party either, nor do I like that he kept it a secret from your family… I don't know or understand why, and no. I don't have siblings, or parents, so you were right about that. But you know what, I love you… and I don't care that Marcus 'stole our thunder', because I still love you, and we're still getting married. Do you still love me, Harvey?'

'I do Mike. I will always love you, and I'm sorry for saying those things to you. I was just… I'm pissed at my brother. I just wanted something to be about us for once… but I do Mike, I do love you,'

'I do Harvey? We're not even married yet,' Mike replied, smirking then squealing when he felt Harvey grab him and throw him down on the bed, now the older man was straddling him

'Yet… now let me make love to you Mike… the way you deserve,' Harvey whispered, then kissed Mike tenderly as they undressed each other slowly.

Harvey and Mike had woken at the same time. It was six thirty in the morning. Mike had gone to shower and ready for the day; Harvey had gone to make breakfast. When Mike came out to the kitchen, Harvey placed the plates down, and turned the stove off. It was a good thing Harvey doesn't have neighbours because their fight was loud. But they got it all out. Harvey had apologised for what he had said, stating that he was sick of Marcus 'always getting the approval of his parents'. He told Mike that it had been difficult for him, to get his parents approval, especially after he came out. If he did one great thing, Marcus was always doing something else that was even greater, and he would always get the attention, and maybe that is petty, and Harvey should grow up, but it hurt him. Mike told Harvey that Marcus getting married and not inviting them wasn't meant to be 'mean', it was just the young man telling them that he needed to do this grown-up thing on his own, and he thought that because of all the attention he'd gotten as a kid, that it would be the same again when he told everyone at their party. Mike took Harvey's hands, they fought and apologised, then Mike took Harvey against the bar bench, and it was the first time they'd had sex in their kitchen. After they had finished and cleaned up, Harvey finished cooking breakfast, and they went and snuggled up to each other on their sofa to eat. Harvey still felt guilty about what he'd said about Mike's parents, but the younger man just shushed him, telling him that it's okay, he can't be mad at the truth, just the way that Harvey had 'used it against him'. They finished eating, kissed for a bit, then both fell asleep on the sofa, only woken by someone's cell phone ringing loudly through the silence. Mike groaned, burying his head in Harvey's neck, whilst the older man grabbed his cell, and answered it. It was Helena. He invited them over for dinner tonight, and they talked for a bit, before Harvey hung up and fell back into his dozing state again. He held Mike tight, the dream that had riddled his body, made his blood run cold. He'd had a nightmare that someone had found out about Mike, and told the police, and he was being arrested, and there wasn't anything that Harvey could do. The closer woke with a start, sitting up and immediately calling for Mike, who came back out from the hallway, stating that he'd 'just gone to the bathroom'. Harvey just pulled him back into a hug and didn't let him go.

When four pm came around, there was knocking on the door, and when Harvey opened it, he was greeted by his family members. He hugged each one of them as they entered, noting that Marcus was absent from their little group. Molly informed them that he had made the choice to 'go back home with Renee and Caroline'. Harvey nodded but didn't say anything else. Mike excitedly greeted them all, and Helena began organising things for Christmas with Molly, as they walked around the Penthouse Apartment. Harvey told his mother that tonight, he's cooking, and she and Richard can 'relax'. Lily patted her sons face, and thanked him, heading into the living area, where the kids had already put the big TV on, and were watching a movie. Mike was in the kitchen helping Harvey, they were talking softly. They are over their fight. They've fought, they've made up, it's done. But Harvey just started talking about things suddenly, and Mike wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to be the strong one this time around. They chatted whilst Harvey explained the recipe to him, knowing that Mike would remember it anyway. There is something, an experiment if you will, that Mike is planning on carrying out at work in the coming days. He's going to try wearing his new cologne, and see how Harvey reacts to it at work, because he'd mostly brought it to wear when they go out, but Donna made a bet with him, and he always likes to win bets against Donna… unless she's right about Harvey not doing anything because they're at work? He thought to himself and was so pre-occupied by this thought that he wasn't paying attention to what he was doing and cut himself with the knife. There was a shout, and then Harvey was running Mike's finger under cold water, telling him that he needs to 'fucking pay attention'. Mike apologised; it wasn't deep. He wouldn't need stitches. Harvey washed and wrapped his finger, and then told Mike to go 'set the table'. Before he left the kitchen, Mike grabbed Harvey's shirt with one hand, pulled him close and kissed him. They both smiled, and then Mike left the room. They had all sat down to eat by six pm. Helena and Harvey were discussing plans for Christmas, because it's "only eight months away". Lily was more interested in any wedding plans that Harvey and Mike had made, but they hadn't really had a conversation about it. They might have to lie in tomorrow and do it, they haven't done that in a while. Topics strayed away from Marcus and Renee. Damien lamented at how awesome their engagement party was, and Harvey responded by just kissing Mike's cheek.

'Can I just say something… I am really, honestly excited to have you guys here for Christmas this year,' Harvey said, and Mike nodded

'We're really, honestly excited to be coming back here for Christmas this year. I can't wait. Redwood National Park looks amazing, I can't wait for our camping trip,' Molly said

'Does anyone know if this… Renee chick… camps?' Damien asked, and everyone looked around

'Does anyone even know anything about this Renee chick, who is apparently now our sister-in-law?' Helena asked, and the table went back into silence.

Harvey and Mike stayed in bed most of the day. It's Sunday, a lazy day. They don't have to be at work, and Mike doesn't have anything to finish for Jessica or Louis that would get him up. The only reason they would get up, is to use the bathroom, or get food. He and Harvey had taken advantage of this morning to begin planning some of the details about their wedding, and when they had hit a wall, they had put the planning aside, and just curled together, talking. They talked about everything. How Mike was afraid, that his promotion was going to end with him going to prison, and even though Harvey promised him that it wouldn't, Mike could hear the waver in his fiancées voice when he said it, then Harvey admitted that he was also afraid of what it might mean. Jessica had to know what she was doing; she must know the danger she is putting them all in now that Mike is a Junior Partner. Harvey told Mike that he's proud of him, for getting there though, and that he's going to miss having Mike as his associate, and it's "going to suck hiring someone else". Mike chuckled, then straddled Harvey's waist, making him promise that he wouldn't "fall helplessly in love with his new associate". Harvey smirked, shrugging, and saying that 'he might', only to have Mike act offended, and try to get away from him. Harvey pinned him down on their bed, and straddled his waist, kissing him, and reminding him that Mike is the only person that Harvey wants, he would never want anyone else. They kissed for a while longer, then Harvey told Mike about his childhood, how he and Marcus had always butted heads as kids, and how he always felt as though his parents weren't "proud" of him. Mike caressed his cheek lightly and told Harvey that his family is proud of him, that Mike is proud of him, and pulled his fiancée in close when Harvey started to cry, apologising for being so 'pathetic'. Mike demanded that Harvey never refer to himself as 'pathetic' ever again, or he'd never have sex again, which made the older lawyer chuckle, and kiss Mike back. Here, in their apartment, in their bed, he can tell Mike these things. He can feel safe in the arms of his fiancée. He doesn't have to worry about Mike spilling anything, because he trusts the man more than anyone. It feels freeing, to be able to open up the way that he has been, and to have someone there that will just let him, and not judge him. Not that he ever thought Mike would.

Their lazy Sunday was interrupted by Harvey's cell phone ringing loudly from the living room. The older lawyer reluctantly, got out of bed to go answer it, hearing Mike's call to 'bring back some snacks', whilst the young man was setting up a movie on the TV they have in their bedroom. Harvey was gone for a while. Mike had settled back against the bed, the beginning of Clueless playing through the silence. He could hear Harvey, frustratedly talking with someone on the other end of the phone, in the living room. Mike paused the movie, and also reluctantly, headed out to see what was taking his fiancée so long. When he got out to the living room, Harvey wasn't there. Mike called out to him, but there wasn't any answer. He walked into the kitchen, where Harvey was leaning against the bench, head resting against the cabinet at his head height. Mike wrapped his arms around Harvey's waist, causing the older man's eyes to shoot open. He told Mike that he's "getting some snacks", then explained that it was Jessica on the phone. Mike asked if what he was going to say next would ruin the rest of their day, and Harvey smiled, grabbing his face, and kissing him. He said that he wasn't going to think about it, that he turned his phone off. Mike raised an eyebrow, going to ask again, but Harvey just tutted at him, shaking his head. He handed Mike some of their junk food, and told him to go back to the bedroom, he'll be in, in a moment with the popcorn. Mike turned away from his fiancée and headed back down the hall to the master bedroom. Last night, when the family had been here, they had mapped out where everyone would be staying, considering this is a five-bedroom penthouse, there should be enough room for everyone here. But Harvey wanted to be sure that it was going to fit his entire family, because he doesn't want any of them in a hotel. Mike climbed back into bed, and made himself comfortable, depositing the snacks in the center of the bed. He was rejoined moments later by Harvey, carrying more snacks, the popcorn, and some drinks, asking what they're watching. When Mike replied with the title of the movie, Harvey groaned. He then told Mike a story about him watching Clueless once, with his sister when they were teenagers, and how he had spent most of the movie trying to hide his hard-on, when Paul Rudd came on the screen. Mike gaped at him, then glared at the TV, as if he could affect the actors on there. Harvey just smirked, kissing his neck.

'Don't worry Michael. You're the only person I think about when I get a hard-on,' Harvey whispered to his fiancée

'I am banning you from watching this film. If you're going to jerk off to Paul Rudd, then we're turning it off,' Mike said, heading for the remote, but Harvey stopped him

'Mike… don't be jealous now baby. You're the only one I want to jerk off for,' Harvey said again, smirking at Mike when he gaped at him

'I better be the only person you jerk off for Harvey Reginald Specter, or you can be sure that you'll never 'jerk off' ever again,' Mike replied, but there was a playfulness in his voice, when Harvey grabbed him and whispered dirty things into his ear.

Mike had dozed off halfway through their fourth movie, it was only ten pm, and Harvey was curled up beside his fiancée, just watching the man sleep. Yes, call him creepy, but he finds a calm in watching Mike sleeping. His phone call with Jessica had been put to the far back of his mind. He doesn't want to think about it, until tomorrow. She had called him about putting Mike in his old office, having it done up for him for his Junior Partner presentation. She had also mentioned something about Tanner arranging a meeting with them. It's been a while since the man had mad any moves on his supposed 'case', they hadn't heard anything about it, and Mike had gotten in touch with the home and asked them to supply all the security footage that they could for the time that Tanner visited his grandmother. Harvey had gone down there and asked how they could be so incompetent as to not question the legitimacy of Tanner's claim that he was 'James Ross'. The young girl who had signed him in had burst into tears over Harvey's questioning and had promised that she would do everything in her power to help them out. He had made her sign a contact and everything. Manipulative? Sure. But this is family. He's allowed to be an ass when it comes to protecting what he loves the most. For the past hour, he's been texting with Marcus. Surprisingly, his younger brother had messaged him first, with an apology. He had told Harvey that everyone was at him for not inviting them to the wedding, and he just snapped and took the opportunity. Harvey didn't say anything about what he'd said to Mike, he'd just sent his brother a sad face, and they had gone into a conversation about why Marcus had gone ahead without them there. This led them to where they are in their conversation now, talking about what they're going to do about their father, and getting him the help that he needs. Richard has been struggling to stick to the doctor's orders, and Harvey is sure as shit going to make sure he'll be at their wedding. Selfish? Sure, but it's his father. He knows that Mike would do the same thing. It was almost midnight by the time he and Marcus said goodnight to each other, with the promise they would 'facetime' sometime in the week. Harvey had no idea what that meant, but agreed to it, nonetheless. He turned his phone off, set the alarm, and curled himself back into Mike, whose body immediately adjusted to the presence.

In the morning they can work out how Mike is going to continue working at the firm as a Junior Partner, without anyone finding out. Harvey had considered telling Alex, but Mike considers the man to be 'family', and he doesn't want to take that away. If they tell Alex, and he reacts badly, Mike will be devastated. Alex is a good friend to Mike, and he's a good friend to Harvey. He's also a good lawyer. Mike slept soundly for the first time in a long time. Sure, he's terrified of what this is going to mean for him and for the firm, and it's going to be a long road, but he wants to follow the path, see where it will lead him, and obviously Jessica has a plan. He had considered telling Alex, but he sees the man as a brother. He's family, and he doesn't think he would be able to cope with losing the person he considers to be a close friend. He wouldn't be able to go through that again. Regardless, the two lawyers fall into their sleeps, and switch their minds off. There is going to be plenty of shit to deal with in the coming days.

A/N: Whoop, another one down. Thanks and I hope you're enjoying this story. D.
