Emma stood outside the room with her friend. She couldn't sit still as she was dying to know about Regina.
A door suddenly opened then came the doctor, her face looking grim and serious.
Emma pushed herself right off the wall instantly as she saw the doctor and went up to her with worry.
"Can I talk to the patient's family?" The doctor asked
Emma raised her hand.
"You are?"
"The other parent," Emma said
The doctor nodded and took a step with her to the side and had a conversation with her alone.
"The patient was lucky that you brought her here in time. She is safe now but suffers the bleeding and fainting because the body is using too much energy. Please be careful since it's dangerous to bleed this late in pregnancy it could lead to miscarriage."
A gasp was out of the blonde's mouth and the doctor had to hurry to finish before the blonde's face would get any paler.
"The patient is almost 30 weeks now. I suggest the mother not walk or stand for longer than necessary, bed rest would be even better if she could!"
Emma nodded indicating that she was paying attention and kept everything in her mind.
"I'll check on her again tomorrow. You can see her inside, but she's still sleeping."
"Thank you."
Emma finally sighed in relief, she didn't realize when she was holding her breath. She heard another step beside her.
"If anything were to happen with Regina and the baby, I wouldn't forgive myself for the rest of my life," Emma said with guilt, resting her head against the wall behind her while rubbing her face in tiredness.
Ivy patted Emma's shoulder to lift the spirit.
"Me too! I won't forgive you if it were to happen." Ivy teased the blonde.
Emma only glared back at her friend. Ivy grinned.
"But now Regina and my grandchild are safe. You have to take good care of them from now on."
Emma grinned back with tears in her eyes.
"Daniel helped talk some sense into her. His speech was good actually I think Regina might soften her heart for you if you try again, Emma."
Emma almost forgot about the other man who was standing at the opposite of her. She looked at him.
"So…what did you say to her?" She asked
Daniel chuckled.
"If you want to know then ask Regina herself. Let's head back, Ivy." He finished then turned to face Ivy.
"Good Idea, I'm getting hungry."
Ivy turned to face Emma with a small smile.
"If we're free tomorrow we'll visit soon, take care, Em."
With that, Emma watched as Ivy turned to smile at Daniel and walked off with him. She frowned slightly at the two of them.
When did they get so close together, come again?
She grinned and was so happy for Ivy since Daniel was a perfect gentleman for her friend.
Emma took in a deep breath before preparing herself to go into Regina's room.
She stepped inside as the door closed behind her. She saw Regina on the bed and went to sit on the chair beside the bed immediately.
Her heart broke at the sight of the mother of her child lying there in the hospital gown. Regina looked so small, and her face was a shade lighter than usual.
She lifted Regina's hand that rested on her side, against her cheek. Holding it and kissing the cold hand several times.
Until she fell asleep beside the brunette while she slept, snuggling her face against Regina's hand.
Regina fluttered her eyes open and blinked as she saw the white ceiling and the scent of the hospital around her.
She remembered she was so surprised to see Ivy and Daniel come to visit her. She concluded that she might have lost consciousness but when she wasn't sure.
Before fainting she could feel her stomach tightened hard and something was squeezing her from inside.
Her mouth opened into a sharp gasp upon remembering the pain.
Was the baby okay, she needed to know.
Regina started to move her right hand when she couldn't as the weight against her hand was quite heavy. She looked down and saw blonde hair fanning out over the side of her bed.
She tried to pull her hand out under the blonde's face and suddenly Emma startled back to her conscious as the sleep left her state. Emma sat up and gasped upon seeing Regina was awake now.
"You're awake! How are you feeling?" Emma said with worry and suddenly went to hug her.
The blonde's sudden affection made her lose her breath slightly. Regina weakly pushed the blonde's shoulder away but couldn't as the blonde shoved her head against her own and her blonde hair was in Regina's face.
"Oh, thank god! I was so worried." Emma mumbled.
Then finally Emma pulled herself away, hanging on her shoulder and looked into her eyes.
She couldn't pay attention to Emma's soft reaction toward her right now when she wanted to know about the baby's condition more than anything.
When she freed from the blonde's hold, Regina's hand went to her belly immediately and sighed in relief as her stomach was still huge.
Her mind was at ease again as she could feel a slight movement inside her belly. She looked into those worrying green eyes to express her concern.
"Is the baby okay?! Tell me, Emma."
Emma covered her hand in front of her stomach and nodded while she watched tears gather in the blonde's eyelids.
"Yes, You're safe now and the baby is not in danger anymore. You fainted, Regina. You bled earlier that's why I have to take you here."
Emma's breath seemed to be stuck upon realizing what state Regina was in and the blonde's face was hardened, her lips were in thin line.
Now that she and the baby were fine, Regina wanted to go home. She didn't want to stay here in this room alone with the blonde. It started to get uncomfortable now at the intense gaze she received from Emma.
Regina frowned at the sudden shift on the blonde's face. Regina tried to sit up and put her weight against her hands to help lift her upper half up but suddenly another pair of arms went around her torso and helped her sit up instead.
Regina gasped in surprise at Emma's action when it was clear that Emma was angry at her earlier. She pushed the blonde's arm away from her waist and finally got to sit up against the pillow on her own.
"What are you doing?!" Emma said with a stern voice.
Regina turned to face the blonde and saw the frown and a light scold on Emma's face. She wasn't scared of her. And didn't care If Emma was angry at her or not.
She didn't need the blonde to take care of her.
"I want to go home."
"You're not! The doctor said you have to stay and observe your condition for another night. She'll come in and check with you in the morning."
"No. I won't."
Regina didn't listen to what the blonde had just told her.
Emma could be lying to her for all she knew and had another plan up in her sleeve for keeping her here.
She put the comforter off her lower body and noticed an IV tube in the back of her hand. She didn't care, just wanted to go home and not be near the blonde longer than necessary.
Regina tried to swing one of her legs to the side and a sudden pain seized up her abdomen.
"Oh." Regina hissed at the sharp pain.
Her hand went to the side of her stomach immediately and she heard a long sigh from the woman beside her.
"See?! You're hurting yourself!"
Then Emma went to put her arms around her torso in a loose hold again, not letting her get off the bed and slightly pushed her backward on the pillow.
"Let go of me!"
Regina yelped and yanked Emma's arms from her torso, the blonde let her and turned to face Regina directly. Emma was trying to look into her eyes.
"Listen, you can't go anywhere right now because your body is still too weak. You need to recover your strength first, Regina. Yesterday we were lucky that I got you to the hospital in time. If not- "
The blonde gasped as Regina started choking back her tears as she listened.
"We might lose our little bean." Her breath hitched.
"And it happened because you're so stubborn, Regina! You didn't let me help you carry things around for you. You work too much and if you continue to do this, you could endanger both yourself and the baby!"
"Don't use the baby's health to threaten me! I don't believe you, Miss Swan."
Regina gulped down her saliva as the blonde's eyes shifted in anger. She didn't understand why the blonde overreacted like this since the baby and she was fine now.
Emma had to be lying about this.
"Do you know how much you bled?" Emma said with a stern voice
Regina just looked back at those livid green eyes. And watched Emma fumed in silence.
"You don't know what I felt when I saw you lying unconscious on the floor, Regina! When I held your body against me, I saw blood on my hand, and to my terror it was coming from you!"
Emma cried and continued.
"You know the first thing I thought? I blamed myself for putting you in this state! I saw how you weren't fine all morning and I didn't stop you from going out, I let your stubborn ass go out to work which I couldn't stop you if I tried because-you- won't let me help you, you don't need my help."
She watched as Emma's heart broke at the last sentence.
"You don't want anything to do with me and it broke me. I could only watch you in pain and couldn't help!"
Emma sobbed in front of her and she felt…bad for this.
Regina didn't think from the blonde's point of view how she had to see her in that state.
It must have been so scary.
"When I was in the car I-I felt worthless! I couldn't help you, Regina and you wouldn't wake up. I watched you sleeping in my arms and was so damn worried, thinking all the bad scenarios in my head. If the baby is gonna be okay? If you're going to be okay?"
Their eyes met and Regina's lost her breath at the sincerity in Emma's gaze.
"I'd die if you both were not here with me." Emma choked out another sob.
Regina sat in silence, absorbing all of the blonde's words.
She felt guilty now for accusing Emma of lying to her. But it was not all on her when Emma hadn't assured her before that she could trust Emma. And she didn't have any reason to.
"Let me help you, next time, please, Regina. This is all I beg of you. If you don't feel well or uncomfortable anywhere please let me know so I can help you. I don't want anything bad to happen to you again. Today was a nightmare for me."
The blonde's voice shook as she cried.
Her heart twitched softly as she had never seen Emma cry for her before. She used to see the blonde cry when she was fighting with her father.
But now it was about her, she didn't know how to act on it.
"I just…didn't think you were really worried about me. So I don't have any reason to believe you." Regina uttered softly.
She couldn't stand the honesty of the blonde's gaze any longer. Regina turned to face the wall and shifted her body to the side, facing the wall as well. She couldn't look into Emma's eyes when her wall started to crumble down again.
Suddenly she felt a warm breath puffing against the side of her ear. Regina startled slightly as the blonde's hand went around her torso into a loose hold, ready to let go if Regina pushed her away.
She held back tears at the gesture.
"What I have done to you since I found you again, was it proof enough for you just how much I care about you, Regina?" Emma said softly as her tears stopped when she heard how Regina thought of her.
Emma put her chin on Regina's shoulder as the brunette turned slightly to the side and listened to her.
Their noses were almost touching.
Regina closed her eyes as she breathed out with a slight shudder. Her heart pounded in the tiniest bit of rhythm at Emma's words. She wanted to believe that Emma did care for her.
But on the other hand, she couldn't as she didn't know if the blonde really cared for her or if this was all a ploy to get to her again or not.
Regina thought back to what Daniel said to her on Emma's behalf.
"If you decide to go back to be with Emma this time, everything will change, Regina. It would not be the same as before. Emma has never acted like she does with you around anyone ever. She has truly changed. You just have to give her another chance."
Daniel begged and hoped that Regina would see things more clearly about the blonde.
"I don't believe that she could change. Everything that she did since she came here was to prove to me that she can do it. So she can win me over. And I hate that trail of hers, she loves to win over people and it ruined her. If I give in and go back to normal. Emma would be back to her old self before I left her. I don't want to be sad or hurt anymore."
"So you left thing like this to go on? With Emma following you around, try to win your heart back, Regina. Are you really happy? I don't believe that you're happy right now. I admit that if it was before I wouldn't let you go back to Emma. But now I just want you to go back to her and start a new life together, at least for this baby that you're carrying?"
Regina couldn't listen to him talk about Emma anymore since it hurt her deeply still. She was so scared.
"Please stop talking about her. I don't wanna hear it!" She yelled
"But you have to! You can't let this go on. Everything won't be better or change! You're right that people can't suddenly change. No one can change anyone. But there's one thing that could change a person, Regina."
Regina turned away from him and stopped in her step as he uttered the word she was so scared to hear.
"It's love. She will do anything to change herself and she means it, absolutely everything in her power for the person she loves, Regina."
Her breath hitched at that. As she suddenly was consumed with dark vision in her sight, she shut down after hearing it.
Regina touched her belly and caressed her soft mound slightly as another thought came to her suddenly.
Or Emma did nice things to her, following her around, wanting forgiveness from her because of this baby?
Her hand stopped moving in a circle over her belly as she remembered Emma saying so herself.
Whenever they had a fight and Emma lost control she would admit out loud that she loved the baby.
The blonde did everything for the love of this baby.
Emma couldn't possibly truly love her.
Regina was still for so long, lost in thought. She didn't know how long it was until she couldn't feel the blonde beside her anymore.
Her back was cold, losing the warm presence as Emma finally left the room.
She heard the door closing and then she finally laid down on her side as she let the tears come.
Emma placed the coffee on the bedside table quietly, not wanting to startle the brunette who lay facing the wall. She went out to get something to drink after Regina didn't say anything to her and lost in her thoughts.
She frowned as she saw Regina's foot move slightly. So Regina wasn't asleep but pretended to be.
Interesting.
Emma stepped up to the bed and leaned forward behind Regina's back. She whispered against the shell of Regina's ear.
"I know you're awake. You just don't want to see my face, so stop pretending, Regina." Emma grinned when she heard Regina sighed.
The brunette turned suddenly to her. That was when their nose bumped.
Regina was the one jerking back while she looked into those warm brown eyes and her gaze shifted down to those lips upon this close contact.
Emma licked her lips and then-
Regina pushed her face backward, making Emma lean further back.
"So stop showing up your face, then."
"If I wanted to I would have been gone for ages! Not staying with the person who wouldn't speak to me for months."
Emma grinned to let Regina know that she was only teasing. Because she was in for a long run and wouldn't go anywhere soon. She would still show up whether Regina wanted to see her face or not.
Regina rolled her eyes and her grin widened into a smile.
"Let's eat! You must be hungry." Emma said while rolling the bed table to Regina who was now sat up against the pillow.
"I'm not hungry," Regina said with uninterest.
"You have to eat anyway since you have to take your medicine." Regina looked down at the food with a frowning eyebrow.
"And don't be disgusted over the food. I didn't do this. It was from the hospital. You have to eat lots, okay? So the baby would get stronger!" Emma said.
At the mention of the baby Regina's face fell again, looking like the brunette was about to cry and turned her face away from Emma.
She frowned as to why Regina acted like this. The mood changed all of a sudden.
"What's with the face, hmm? What are you thinking?" Emma asked as she leaned her face closer to Regina.
"The doctor doesn't want you to get stressed often, did you forget?"
Regina turned to face her with a glare.
"I'm not."
"Good, I'll feed you." Emma smiled while Regina gasped in terror.
"Uh, I don't think so." Regina interrupted.
Emma didn't listen and spooned up soup with chicken in it, she put the spoon right in front of Regina's mouth.
"Come on, open up." She said softly.
Regina turned her face slightly from the spoon and quickly mumbled.
"I can eat by myself!"
"But I want to do it for you."
Regina looked into her eyes again and this time, the brunette was silent. So Emma took that moment to put the spoon into Regina's mouth which was open slightly.
She saw when Regina tried to open her mouth to spit. Emma rushed to hold the brunette's cheeks together and put her hand against Regina's mouth instead.
"Don't spit it, Regina!" She warned
Regina eyed her from her eyelashes with a glare. When she saw Reina's throat move, she finally put her hand away.
Emma chuckled with a grin. Regina acted like a kid more than her at that moment.
But her amusement was gone as she noticed Regina wasn't happy about this at all. The brunette's face was sad again. Her heart shattered slightly as she didn't know how to make Regina happy again.
Emma gently sat beside Regina on the bed and decided to be honest with Regina.
She reached out her hand to wrap around the smaller woman's torso, Regina was stiff in her arms so she didn't tighten her hold on the brunette and let her arm hang loose beside Regina's body. She leaned closer to Regina's face to speak her mind.
"We've been through so much together, Regina. You have to know that I stopped thinking or doing bad things to you for a long time ago. Even though I'm not good enough at what I'm doing now, or god knows I tried, I just want to make us work. It's still the best that a person like me could ever do. Pride was over our head for far too long, don't let it do the same to our baby too."
Regina turned her face toward her slightly as she saw the brunette's mouth trembling. She used the opportunity when Regina didn't fight her back and put her hand on Regina's rounded stomach.
She tenderly caressed Regina's belly while taking a moment to herself to sniff a whiff of Regina's shampoo as her nose glazed softly against Regina's temple.
That seemed to calm Regina down and let her feed the brunette in peace.
Later the doctor was in the room with them. It was the same O.B. of the brunette herself. The doctor smiled brightly upon seeing the blonde beside Regina's bed.
"How are you feeling, Regina?" The doctor smiled and looked down at the chart.
"Tired but good."
"Hmm, You're 30 weeks now. We have an appointment this week but since you're at the hospital right now. I'm going to examine you here instead, okay?"
"So I won't have to be here for the next appointment, right?" Regina asked.
"That would be correct. I'll see you again when the baby decides to come."
Regina nodded while rubbing her belly softly. It was like yesterday when her belly was still flat but now in the next few weeks, she would get to see her baby.
"You did a good job on gaining weight, Regina. Your blood and sugar are on a regular level."
The doctor nodded her head, pleased with the result so far.
"You have to stay here at least 2 days." The doctor told Regina seriously.
"Oh, no. I can't! I have to work." Regina blurted out.
"In your last trimester, you can't work too hard or walk for hours a day, Regina. Oh, I have to ask you this but…have you guys had any sexual activity before coming here?" The doctor asked and looked at them both who were red in the face, while Regina was more redder.
"Uh, Getting off an inch, Was that count?" Regina sheepishly asked.
Emma suddenly turned her head toward Regina and widened her eyes. Regina was so red and only kept her gaze on the doctor not the blonde beside her.
"Possible. That would push your uterus to contract. So go soft on that activity for my suggestion if you still don't want your baby to come out here so soon."
The doctor raised her eyebrow at Regina while Regina shifted in her seat and looked down.
Emma frowned and thought back to when Regina started to get stomach pain. It was the day she massaged Regina so that night Regina was…too?
Emma turned to the doctor suddenly.
"So my wife-"
"I'm not!" Regina suddenly blurted out.
The doctor watched these two argue in amusement. She was happy to see Regina with the blonde aka the wife. She turned to face the blonde.
"Take good care of her then, she's the mother of your child."
"I will." Emma nodded seriously while sensing Regina was still glaring hard at her head.
"Do you want more supplements? I can prescribe you more. Since you need another 2-3 pounds before your due date. It would be good."
The doctor asked before she was surprised when hearing both women answered at the same time.
"I don't-"
"Yes. She need-"
Regina said at the same time Emma opened up her mouth. They both turned to look at each other at the same time. Regina scolded Emma.
"I don't need it."
"Why?" Emma frowned and then gasped as if she might know the reason.
"You don't want to gain more weight? You don't seem to be fat to me, Regina. Your body is still to die for."
Emma said softly while looking at now the flushing brunette on the bed.
"I'm not!- worried about that. I have to stop working so I can't find the money to pay for it this soon." Regina said not embarrassed about her financial statement anymore at this point.
Emma nodded and turned back to the doctor.
"You can give Regina anything you want, Vitamins and stuff. I will take care of the payments." She finished with a smile.
The doctor nodded with a smile.
"Excellent!"
"You can't, Emma!"
Emma winced as Regina hit her in the arm, she rubbed it softly and looked at Regina with a frown.
"Why?"
"I am responsible for taking care of that too. I can't let you pay for it alone."
"But it's our baby's welfare. How can you decide on this alone? And anything that could make him or her happy I'm willing to pay."
"Regina, you should let your wife pay for it. Do it because I asked you to then." The doctor decided to interrupt and helped the poor blonde.
Regina snapped her head at the doctor in surprise.
Now Emma had the doctor on her side too?
"Thank you, Doc."
Emma sighed and shook hands with The doctor before the other woman left the room, turned back around and said.
"Before I forget. Remember, we have an appointment this evening, ladies. If you want to find out the sex of your baby you can at this ultrasound."
Emma nodded as this time the doctor left them alone.
She turned to Regina and her heart turned soft at the sight of the brunette pouting slightly on her face.
It was an adorable sight, she hadn't experienced so much.
"Are you mad that I pay for the baby's supplement for you?" Emma asked
"No…I just don't like that you take action in front of the doctor. And look, she's on your side now! You just came here and now everyone was suddenly on your side, no one cares about how I feel."
Regina looked down and her heart squeezed softly at the honest word from the brunette.
Emma leaned forward and put her face as close as Regina would let her. She looked into her eyes. She just wanted Regina to know that she truly cared.
"I do care. I don't want you to work with a baby who is close to being born. I can take care of you both and you don't have to pay for a living ever." Emma said and risked to take Regina's hand in her.
Regina tried to pull away but she squeezed the hand tightly, not letting go, it made Regina look back at her.
"Then can we split it in half? Please, I don't want you to work harder than it's necessary. I'm worried about you."
"Fine."
Emma smiled, that was all she needed.
Regina was trying to take the IV bag from its pole when Emma shouted from behind.
"What are you doing?!"
She almost flinched back from the bed. Regina turned around to face the blonde and sighed out in frustration.
"You're scaring me! Why are you yelling all of a sudden?! I was going to the bathroom."
Regina rubbed her belly softly as she felt a fluttering sensation inside at the blonde's yell earlier.
She was about to reach up to the IV bag again when the blonde was at her side that instant.
"Why don't you tell me sooner? So I can take you." Emma asked
"I can go by myself." Regina rolled her eyes.
"But you need someone to move this pole, so let me help, okay?" Emma said without taking no for an answer.
The blonde took the IV bag from her hand. Regina simply nodded and let the blonde help her off the bed and led her to the bathroom, while pulling the IV bag alongside her.
She was about to take another step when the blonde's arms were around her torso in a loose hold. Regina pushed those arms away in annoyance.
"Your arms are in my way. Stop it, I can walk. You just hold the damn pole." Regina scoffed before hearing a chuckle followed.
Emma just smiled, at least Regina didn't chase her away but let her stay by her side, that was a big enough step for Emma.
She followed Regina until the door was closing in front of her face.
She waited a few minutes later and couldn't help but yell against the door.
"Are you okay in there?"
No sound was bouncing back except the sound of a thing hitting the hard surface of the door.
She thought it must be soap or something else in there that Regina could grab and throw at her.
Her smile widened.
Not long Regina opened the door and she helped the brunette back to the bed. Regina was settling back on it.
Emma sat down on the chair beside the bed and sipped her coffee quietly while scrolling through her phone, and checking her social media. She saw that there was an event tonight, it was the opening night of the sports brand that she loved.
She pouted to herself slightly as she wanted to go.
After Regina's birth, she would bring Regina with her to several events for sure, since she wanted everyone to know that she has an important person now.
"No one is keeping you here, you can go, Miss Swan. I can stay and take care of myself."
Emma looked up suddenly at the brunette's voice turned sullen out of nowhere. She frowned
"Hm?, Why did you say that?" Emma asked while looking at Regina in confusion.
"Really?! Even I can tell from here that you're bored out of your mind." Regina rolled her eyes at the obvious blonde.
"Never with you! The time I've spent with you here I loved it. Not even bored." Emma blurted out so fast that Regina raised her eyebrows back at her.
She saw Regina was about to open her mouth, Emma interrupted and showed the screen to Regina.
"This brand has the sports bra that I love to wear. I was just thinking that after you had given birth I could take you with me to other events, Regina." Emma said with a soft smile on her face, thinking back to when she saw Regina in a party dress.
Emma swiped the screen to show Regina the bra design and colors.
"There is a new collection coming out, can you help me choose? Which one do you think suits me?"
Emma grinned at Regina and looked at her phone.
"You choose it yourself since you're the one to wear it."
"But I can't choose! Which one?"
Emma showed the black and white bra on the screen toward Regina.
Regina flushed slightly at the sight as she thought about the blonde wearing either of those. Regina turned her face away from her.
"I don't know! I'm tired." Regina hurriedly said and turned on her side, back facing the blonde.
Emma was confused at Regina's reaction.
Why was she tired all of a sudden just from picking the bra?
But Regina didn't turn away fast enough for Emma to see the slightly flushed face of the brunette and Emma grinned in understanding.
Emma leaned forward Regina and hovered over the now-acting like she was sleeping brunette.
"I'll buy you one too! After you give birth I'll bring you to the gym with me. It should be fun!" Emma smiled
"Miss Swan!"
Regina turned on her back and was startled at how close the blonde's face was to her at that moment.
She flushed even more at Emma's cocky smile and the glee looked glistening in those green eyes.
Regina saw Emma's eyes shift down to her lips and then the blonde leaned her head closer toward her. And she turned her face away, she could feel the blonde's warm breath against her cheek. Regina pushed her hands against the blonde's chest.
"I want to rest now," Regina said softly and turned on her side abruptly leaving Emma hanging in the air again.
"And I let you stay here doesn't mean that I'll go with you to those events!"
"I'll let you rest then. Don't forget to wake up for the ultrasound." Emma teased.
"I know that!"
Emma grinned so hard at the stubborn woman.
