Emma was pushing the wheelchair down the hallway. Regina finally gave in and let her take the brunette in the wheelchair. She almost lost her blonde hair while pulling on her head at how frustrated and irritated Regina was acting earlier.
Emma was so excited to see their baby for the first time and Regina's irritation wouldn't stop her from taking them both here.
"Wait!" Regina abruptly shouted.
Emma stopped pushing the wheelchair as they reached the room. She leaned her head over Regina's shoulder and asked
"What is it?"
"You can wait out here while I go in there alone."
"What?! Whyy?! I'm the other mother, Regina?! The baby is mine too. Who would stop me If I set foot in there?"
Emma raised her eyebrow and crossed her arms in front of her chest.
"Me." Regina stared her down.
"For real?!"
Emma opened her mouth but no word was coming out.
Regina was irritating the fuck out of her right now. The brunette loved to fight her back even though it was useless.
She needed an upper hand to win this argument. She was the other parent and she needed to act like one.
Emma sent Regina a cocky smile before leaning closer to the wide-eyed brunette who was leaning back against the chair as far from her as possible.
Emma didn't wait and placed a quick peck on Regina's cheek. She held the hands that were trying to hit or push her away at this point she didn't care. Emma pulled the hands to her chest, jolting Regina forward a bit.
"Let go, Emma!" Regina whispered fiercely against her face as the brunette looked around wildly with panic.
"They're looking at us!"
"Why are you acting all shy on me all of a sudden? You're my child's other mom, Regina. And I just peck you on the cheek! On the freaking cheek not even where I wanted to."
Emma pouted at the idea, Regina could only let her kiss her cheek and not where she dreamed of.
Regina sent her a dead glare and Emma grinned back before they both could argue more than this the door behind them was opened.
"What are you two doing, not coming in yet? I was waiting for you."
The doctor poked her head out of the door and scolded them both.
"We're about to." Emma gave a sheepish grin before returning to her position behind the wheel.
Regina sighed and let Emma lead her into the room but the wheel didn't roll yet and she felt another peck on her cheek.
"Emma! Stop this!"
Regina lifted her head to threaten the blonde and all she got back was a cocky grin. Regina scoffed while rolling in with the giddy blonde.
Upon being inside the room. Emma helped lift Regina up and on the bed. Regina laid down and lifted her shirt, bunching it up underneath her chest.
Her heart was pounding slightly at the bare rounded stomach in front of her. This was the first time she saw Regina's bare belly and it was cute.
She noticed the slight traces of white marks under the brunette's stomach and her heart twitched at the sight. Regina had to sacrifice her body so much to give her this baby.
Her eyes shifted up to meet those brown eyes and she gave another small smile back. While Regina just stared at her with an emotion she couldn't read.
"This might be cold."
She held Regina's gaze until the doctor put the gel against Regina's stomach and Regina frowned.
"Are you okay?" Emma whispered while Regina nodded
"It's just really cold."
Emma couldn't help but want to support Regina.
She reached out her hand to place it beside Regina on the bed when Regina didn't pull away she slowly inched her finger toward the other woman's.
As she was sure that Regina wasn't going to pull away, she gripped Regina's hand tightly.
She could cry when she felt Regina squeezed her hand back.
Her heart thumped loudly inside her ear at the expectation. Emma didn't prepare herself to hear the next amazing thing she could have ever heard in her entire life.
She heard another beating heart in the room.
Tears gathered in her eyes as Emma heard the baby's heartbeat for the first time. Regina might get used to this but she didn't.
She looked down closely into those brown eyes with affection she couldn't express at the moment.
It felt truly amazing.
Regina tilted her head back to look at Emma and she was surprised to see the soft look and glistening green eyes staring back at her.
And this was just from hearing the heartbeat.
Regina felt the cooling stick move around against her skin and it was cold and tickling. She gripped the hand in her tighter without knowing it herself. It was no surprise that Emma squeezed her hand back immediately in assurance.
"Wow! It's getting bigger the last time I saw it. You did great, Mommy." The doctor flashed her a smile
Regina tilted her head back to look at the screen and smiled with tears.
"I tried."
Regina chuckled as her eyes followed the doctor's pointing out what parts were from the baby.
"This is the head and body length and legs!."
Regina smiled as her throat was closing up every time she got to see the baby.
It got bigger indeed.
"It's your lucky day since this baby is cooperating with us today! Are you ready to know the sex?" The doctor asked with excitement.
Regina felt a hand caressing her hair. That was when she frowned because she didn't hear Emma's voice at all during the scan.
Her eyes caught sight of the blonde who stood there with tears in her eyes while staring at the screen without fail.
Seeing Emma all emotional made her feel the same thing too. Regina was so excited she could cry and the blonde's watery grin didn't help either.
Regina squeezed the hand that was holding her.
Emma jumped slightly and out of her baby traces while looking back down at Regina.
"Hm?" Emma mumbled.
"I'm going to see the sex so if you don't want to find out just yet, you can wait outside, dear."
"No, if you want to know then I'm with you. We're in this together, so yes!" Emma smiled
Regina turned back to the screen and the doctor.
"Okay, I'm ready," Regina said losing a breath as her voice filled with excitement.
"Let's see.."
The doctor moved the stick across Regina's dome of a belly to find the perfect spot.
"Oh! The sex is not long. Congratulations, Moms! You got a girl!"
"A girl?"
Regina gasped in wonder as she stared at the screen, the baby wriggling lightly, trying to avoid the pressing of the stick she guessed.
Tears slipped down her cheeks.
"Is she perfectly fine and normal?"
"Yes, all parts intact and quite the active one. You might have noticed that now, right?" The doctor chuckled
"Yeah." Regina chuckled with tears.
The doctor smiled back at her patient. She knew how they could get emotional over finding out the sex of the baby.
Regina almost forgot the person who stood beside her in silence. If not for the pressure in her hand that let her know Emma was still here. Emma's shuddering breath was beside her ear so she turned her head to the blonde's.
Her heart squeezed at the sight of the crying blonde, tears slipped down both of their cheeks at this point. Regina couldn't help but let out a sobbing gasp upon seeing Emma cry. It made her cry too.
"You heard that?! A fucking girl! Regina, thank you! thank you!"
Emma leaned down with excitement and happiness to kiss her when Regina turned her head away to the side at the last second.
Emma kissed her cheek instead.
"What are you thanking me for?" Regina rasped out emotionally.
Regina knew what the blonde thought but wanted to hear it out loud.
"You give me a girl," Emma said and tears slipped down her cheeks again.
Regina turned to look back at the blonde and nodded her head seeing the tears on the blonde's face. She felt her chest tightened. Regina had to tilt her head to the side.
She couldn't see Emma get all emotional and appreciate her.
This was all too much.
Regina didn't think she would get pregnant, let alone with the blondes for Christ's sake. Even though this kid was unintentional for them both she loved this baby, since the first moment she found out.
The doctor put the stick out and wiped the gel away. Regina pulled her shirt down and sat back up with her hands behind her. She swung her legs down.
Of course, the golden retriever that the blonde was came to her aid immediately.
"Your due date is next month. So no need to come to the hospital until then. Now just take care of yourself and don't work too hard."
"Thank you, doc. I'll take good care of my wife." Emma said with a grin and flinched away before Regina could hit her.
"That you do." The doctor grinned
Regina glared at the blonde from the wheelchair.
Emma tried to not look back and walked behind the chair to push it out of the room. She stopped outside the room and let Regina wait there
"Why are you stopping?" Regina asked with a frown.
"I, uh, have to ask her about the payment. I'll be right back in a second!"
Emma said and Regina gave her a suspicious look before she rushed into the room.
"Oh, Miss Swan?"
The doctor greeted her as she turned in her chair to see the blonde standing in the room, showing her dimples.
"Can I get another picture of the baby?"
"Sure!"
Emma fidgeted her hands together and not a second later the printing paper was in her hand. She looked down at the baby and trailed her finger over it, tears in her eyes again, thinking about the same one she had seen when she found out.
"Thanks."
Emma looked up at the doctor briefly and pocketed the film back in her jacket pocket.
"That's why you didn't ask one earlier right?"
"Yeah."
"Well, I hope she gives in to you soon."
"Thanks."
Emma waved bye and opened the door again. She didn't want Regina to think that she only cared about the baby. So she decided to keep this to herself.
She was glad that the doctor was so understanding of their situation. Hoping that the doctor would not tell Regina any of this.
Regina was back in her room, she opened her mouth in a surprised gasp. As she looked around the room which was now decorated with white roses and colorful flowers here and there.
She inhaled and caught the scent of roses that hit her nostrils.
Regina slowly stood up from the chair, one hand under her rounded belly, and walked along the room in awed, a small smile on her lips as she reached a stop beside her bed.
Regina grabbed a vase that had a bouquet of white roses up, and turned it around in her hand, inspecting the flaw with the familiar trail she had with her line of work.
She smiled as it was beautiful and white roses were her favorite flowers of all. It looked refreshing and clean, making her feel calm whenever she looked at them. She leaned down to take a sniff of the flower and grinned.
Regina put the vase down, she turned to face the blonde who stood beside her with a look of softness in those green eyes toward her.
"You like them? Here." Emma grinned. And handed her a bouquet of another white rose this time it had a red one in between them.
Regina looked down at them with a frown on her face and took it from Emma's hand.
That cocky smile really was annoying.
"You're…the one who did this?" Regina cleared her throat and asked while looking up at the blonde in wonder.
Emma gave her a sheepish grin and scratched her blonde's head of hair while looking around the room.
"I let people at the shop do it, it might not look as beautiful as the one you did by yourself. I think you would love to be surrounded by beautiful flowers. I notice that you're always smiling your brightest when you're with them. And I want you to be happy in this little room even though you can't go out to the garden yet." Emma said
Regina was touched by the thoughtfulness of the blonde. But she knew and didn't expect that Emma would be the one who decorated it herself since it was too much around the room. The blonde couldn't get it done in an hour if she tried.
She stepped forward to Emma, standing in front of the blonde who was now looking back at her with nervousness and seemed to lose her breath upon their closeness.
"I used to make this arrangement of flowers for other people's surprise. And I often think what would it feel like if I was the one who got them."
Regina leaned her face closer to the blonde and looked closely at her green eyes.
"Now that I got to experience that too. I feel…nothing. "
Regina pushed the flowers back into the blonde's hand, watching the blonde frown.
"Because the flowers didn't come from the one who wanted to give to someone. That person just happens to have money. And like to impress the other girl with them. But to me, giving flowers to someone has to come from the heart, then it's mean something. So this flower?"
Regina scoffed and looked around the room.
"Nothing more than a decoration."
Emma's lips turned thin, she sighed in disappointment as Regina turned away from her and walked back to the bed. Even though she hired people to do this, seeing Regina's smile as she entered the room was worth the offending word she got.
Next time Emma would do better, she would grow the flowers by herself and give them to Regina.
"I just want to impress you, Regina." Emma pouted while helping Regina up on the bed.
"I wanted you to feel good, I tried to appease you and got offended back. Now I don't know what to do anymore."
"Yes, you're on the wrong page here."
"When will my intention be good enough for you, tell me."
"Never."
Regina's face was still before the brunette turned on her side and closed her eyes, clearly wanting to be left alone. Emma leaned closer to Regina's back.
"I'll try to do a nice thing for you, Regina," Emma whispered.
"Let's see that you try," Regina mumbled.
"Thank you for letting me try then."
Regina blinked the burn in her eyes away at the stubborn blonde behind her. She couldn't shake Emma off of her if she tried. The blonde was too stubborn. She rubbed her belly and closed her eyes letting the rest take over her.
Emma sat on the couch in Regina's hospital room, she didn't know how long she was staring at the ultrasound film in her hand. But the light outside the window started to get orange. She put the photo back in her pocket and walked to sit on the chair beside the bed.
Regina was sleeping on her back, one hand on her rounded stomach. She grinned softly at the sight of the peaceful brunette on the bed.
A light snore was coming from the sleeping woman making Emma chuckle and her grin turned into a smile.
She looked at the belly before her and took a quick glance at the brunette, making sure that Regina was not awake. Emma gently put her hand on Regina's stomach and caressed it slowly.
Regina shifted and turned to face Emma, as Emma's hand halted for a second, afraid that Regina would wake up but to her luck, Regina was still sleeping just turning on her side.
Emma smiled and put her hand back down.
"Hi, My name is Emma Swan, your other mom. I don't know if your mom ever talks about me?" Emma whispered.
"I'm sorry for not being there earlier to take care of you, baby. From now on I promise I'll take good care of you. But you have to promise me back that you will not disturb your mom while she is regaining her strength, okay?"
Emma paused then looked up at Regina's still-closed eyes and continued her conversation with the baby.
"I can't wait to meet you, it won't be long now. I wonder who you're going to look like, you know? I wish you would look like your mom. Light brown hair and eyes. You must be a sight when growing up. Everyone who looks into your eyes would get lost. Even I…"
Regina shifted again, putting her hand down on the bed but still sleeping. Emma hurriedly to finish the talk.
"I love you, little one. Sleep well."
Emma smiled at the stomach and kissed her finger before putting them against Regina's belly gently. Then she went back to the couch and lay down, sleeping facing Regina with a small smile.
