CHINA, HONG KONG - AIRPORT: 30 MAY 2013
The small commuter passenger plane taxied onto the Hong Kong International Airport. It pulled to a stop at a far parking apron. The trainees were instructed to change into the civilian clothing provided. Their League uniforms, weapons, and gear were in bags in the seats next to them. They were instructed to treat this like a hunt. To bring all their preferred weapons and a large stock of the required elixirs and supplies. They were each issues a cellular phone with the numbers already programmed in.
Sikiyn was the main trainee instructor for their year group. He had been with them since they started on this journey. His calm smile reassured them even as they braced for the next set of instructions.
Sikiyn stood at the head of the aisle in the small passenger cabin. "We have arrived in Hong Kong. While we are in public places, you will not refer to the League. You may refer to your organization, your partner, your family, or your people. Do not refer to the League outside of Nanda Parbat," Sikiyn said with a grave tone. "No one can know about the League. They will try to destroy balance if they know. The outside world is full of people who believe the lies told by their cultures. It is better for us to die with our secret than to betray our family. Do you understand?" he asked them seriously.
"Yes, Teacher," they chorused.
One of the things the priests and priestesses emphasized while instructing their classes was the League's secrecy. It was reinforced as a part of the League Code. Balance, secrecy, and minimal damage. This was the first time they would be exposed to the outside world since the start of their training.
Their instructors continued to emphasize the importance of the League's secrecy. The instructors were looking at the trainees as a potential leak. Even an accidental one. Any leak could spell doom for the members of the League. They would execute the recruits to maintain the secrecy of the League. That was how important it was to maintain the secrecy. The Balance depended on it.
"Very well," Sikiyn continued. "We have several safe houses located within the city of Hong Kong. Each of you are assigned to one instructor. You will follow their directions on stealth and infiltration. We will treat each team as a separate hunt team with your instructor as the team leader. You will report your surveillance and any problems you encounter to your teacher. They will check and update on your progress."
The plane door opened. Sikiyn looked outside and nodded. "Qadar and Sahalia you are assigned to me," he said. "Collect your gear and exit the craft."
The two trainees named rose and followed Sikiyn out with their gear bags. Another large man stood at the front of the aisle. "Eadatan, Samita, you are assigned to me. Come quickly," he ordered as he collected his bags and exited the plane. His trainees followed him.
A thin dark woman rose and took his place. "Aldire, Tayir Alfiniq, you will come with me," she said easily as she collected her large gear bags and left the plane. Her trainees followed her.
A somber, lean man rose and looked at the two remaining trainees. "Sah-him, Dafdae, as you have already guessed, you are my responsibility. Come," he said quietly as he led them outside. He directed them to the last van.
"Place your gear in this vehicle," he ordered as he opened the back of one of the large vans parked beside the plane. He placed his own gear bag inside. They completed their instructions and stood back.
The instructor climbed into the driver's seat. Dafdae sit in the passenger seat. Sah-him took the seat behind the instructor. Once they were all inside, he started the van and drove off. Sah-him noticed that the other vans were already underway as well.
"I am al Hisan," their teacher introduced himself. "Tell me how you came to our people. I would know more about those who I will instruct. Dafdae," he ordered as he drove through the busy streets of Hong Kong.
Dafdae was awestruck and staring outside. She had not been outside of Nanda Parbat her whole life. "The family raised me," she replied in a hushed whisper. "I have never before left our home in the mountains."
"The Creche raised you?" Hisan asked.
"It did," Dafdae replied. "I still see my parents. They are assigned to the Spine now."
"Good," Hisan replied. "Then no one in the outside world will know who you are. It will make your stealth and infiltration easier. We will focus on teaching you how to change your manners to appear as different people. This can help you with infiltration and escape. Sah-him."
Sah-him sighed. "The outside world believes that I am dead," he said quietly. "But in my old life, I was well known. I was the spoiled child of the rich. I was often followed by the press. My face was often in the media. I was on a yacht with my father when it sank in a storm. I survived that wreck on an island. My actions on Lian Yu brought me to the attention of the… our family."
"How well known was your face?" Hisan asked in contemplation.
"I was very known in America. A minor celebrity. As time passes, the outside world will forget me. I don't know about the rest of the world. But my father had holdings around the Pacific Ocean, Oceania, Asia, South America, and in Europe." Sah-him paused as he considered his father's company. His father had frequently told him about QC holdings to spark his interest in the company.
"QC has holdings across many large nations. Most of Europe, China, Russia, India, Australia, and various South American countries. QC is a large company. It is known throughout the outside world. Many of QC's properties are located throughout the Pacific. QC Headquarters is located at Starling City on the West Coast of the US," Sah-him replied thoughtfully. "I believe that some of them will be familiar with my features," Sah-him said.
"What about Hong Kong?" Hisan asked as he considered his approach to this trainee's instruction.
"Our yacht was headed for Hong Kong when it sank. QC has offices in this city. It is likely that the Hong Kong office was tasked to look for survivors of the yacht accident. They would have recently searched for someone matching my appearance and description," Sah-him replied.
"Then you provide a great challenge," Hisan replied in somber contemplation. "Your training will be mostly focused on stealth and concealing yourself while in public. I think you'll find this training more helpful than detailed infiltration training. We'll go through the foundations of infiltration, but our primary focus will be on employing stealth and target surveillance in public places."
Hisan pulled the van into a small indoor parking space and then he closed the garage door behind the car. "Let us settle into the safe house. Then you will receive your first assignments," Hisan told them as he exited the van. They collected their bags and followed him upstairs.

CHINA, HONG KONG - MARKET: 6 JUN 2013
Sah-him learned to stalk and track targets while staying hidden. Because of his well-known appearance. Hisan focused on changing his appearance. Making him less recognizable. He found old photos of Sah-him in is old life. He worked to make Sah-him's basic appearance and posture different. Sah-him's hair was longer. His beard had grown in. He couldn't make him shorter, but he could get Sah-him to slouch while walking. All of this made it possible for Sah-him to hide in plain sight.
Sah-him's biggest asset was what clothing he was wearing. Because Sah-him was from a rich family, in the past he had only worn expensive and clean clothing. He was not expected to wear worn, poor, dirty clothing. Because of his youth, he frequently was dismissed as homeless or rebelling.
Most of the other people in the marketplace would ignore him. Even if he was a tall, blonde, white man in a poor area of Hong Kong. Torn, dirty hoodies even kept his face in shadow and hid his hair color. Based on his actions and his messy attire, everyone around him made judgments about him. Most people ignored him. Hisan taught him to try and elicit the wrong judgment to deflect attention from himself. Even with the clothing and the beard, a few people required a word or two to divert them away from him. He became very proficient in Chinese. Specifically, the street slang Chinese used by the homeless or vagabonds.
Once, Sah-him could blend, Hisan would have Sah-him stalk various people through public places and markets. Hisan had made him do this for the last week. Today, Hisan had taken him to the marketplace and selected an elderly man with suspicious eyes. "Track him for as long as you can. He seems to be wary. It will be a good way to hone your skills," Hisan told him.
"It will be done," Sah-him replied with the serial response for assent in the League.
Sah-him's target, the older Asian man, had not done much shopping. But he had wandered through the marketplace looking for something or someone. Sah-him kept note of his movements and how he remained wary. The target finally seemed to relax a bit. He purchased some ice cream and made his way to one of the many exits of the market.
It was only because Sah-him was watching that he saw a large Asian man pushed his target into the back of a store and then depart. No one in the marketplace had noticed. Sah-him moved to find his target dead. That explains why the man was wary. While Sah-him examined the body, he found the man's keys with a flash drive attached. Interesting. It may be nothing. But I will ensure that the family knows of it... if it was worth the death of this man. He snagged the keys followed the Asian man who had killed him. I will stalk the killer to practice, since he ended my lesson. He seems more wary than the old man.
Sah-him tracked the killer back to an apartment. Behind the closed door, Sah-him could hear a woman and a child. His family? He identified that the language was not Chinese. Sah-him marked the location on his phone and left the apartment. He returned to his safe house with the flash drive.
"Sah-him, you have returned earlier than I expected. Were you detected?" Hisan asked.
"No," Sah-him replied. "The target was killed. I followed his killer to his home. Where his family lived. They did not speak Chinese. I don't know why he was killed. I found this on the target. Perhaps, it can give us insight." He held out the keys with the flash drive on them.
"Perhaps," Hisan replied. He was intrigued. It is unusual behavior for a murderer to return to his family after a kill. But the target had been wary. There may have been a reason for his caution. "I knew the man was wary. Cautious. This may tell us why." He went over to the computer and plugged in the flash drive.
The flash drive was filled with documents. More than Hisan had expected. It was a larger drive than most people usually kept on them. Hisan started to scan the documents on the drive. "I want you to continue to follow the killer." Hisan told Sah-him without removing his eyes from the list of documents. "See where he leads you." He kept reading the drive.
"It will be done," Sah-him replied and exited the safe house.

CHINA, HONG KONG - LEAGUE SAFE HOUSE: 6 JUN 2013
A few hours later, Hisan woke Sah-him. "The target was not an evil man, but he was not a good man either. The drive holds information. Information about a US government operation, classified as 'Secret' based on the documents. It was under the direction of ARGUS by Director Amanda Waller. The Director is not the origin this operation. I could not determine who originated this operation. That was clouded from the documents. Only that it was someone in the US Government. Someone superior to ARGUS. There is no doubt that ARGUS organized the operation that resulted in the selection of one Edward Fyers and his mercenaries," Hisan said in summary.
"Fyers!" Sah-him replied in shock. "Fyers said someone was paying him money to shoot down an airliner."
"Then it was this Fyers that you encountered on Lian Yu," Hisan remarked while nodding. "I had thought it might be. This is the evil you stopped. Did he state the purpose of his actions?" he asked.
"He did," Sah-him closed his eyes and tried to focus on those last few minutes after the painful death of Yao Fei. "Someone was paying him to destabilize the Chinese economy. He made up some bullshit that he would do that by grounding air traffic in China. I didn't try to argue with him. It was a stupid plan. It never would have worked. My high school economics class stated that economies are more flexible and fluid than people realize," Sah-him replied. "There would have been some initial damage, but that would be repaired quickly. Like a cut getting a scab. China would not have bled to death."
"I see," Hisan replied. "You did well to stop this evil without the support of the family," he said.
"Thank you," Sah-him replied. "That is where I earned my name. I replaced his evil with death with an arrow."
"Good," Hisan replied. "I have contacted Dam Dhib and sent him copies of these documents. He said that Fyers was a branch of evil. Not the source. These documents indicate as much. He wants us to focus more on the assassin and see if we can track him. It is possible that ARGUS wanted this man dead. It is also possible that another group wanted this man dead. Regardless, Dam Dhib wants to find the source of evil. The assassin is now your assignment."
"Good. I want to do all I can to find the source of Fyers' evil," Sah-him replied with an angry glint in his eye.
Hisan looked him over carefully. "Watch only. Do not engage. This man may not be ARGUS. The family needs to know more," he said in chastisement.
"I understand," Sah-him replied in contrition.

CHINA, HONG KONG - MARKET: 7 JUN 2013
The next day, Sah-him tracked the killer to a nondescript brick building. He examined the structure, but he did not approach the facility. He could see no way to get closer without detection. It was wired to detect anyone in proximity and track their actions. Sah-him made note of the types of surveillance. He would report them back to Hisan. His assignment was to watch and report. He could follow the man when he left the building.
The assassin works for someone. An organization of some kind. Yet, the man did not look American. Sah-him marked the location on his phone and waited patiently while watching the entrance to the building.
The killer left that afternoon with another Asian man. Both men did not look like they were trying to blend into their surroundings. Not in this neighborhood. They both wore suits and had neat-cut hair. They stood out against the poor of this area. Perhaps they didn't need to blend? Or they don't want to become invisible?
Sah-him followed the two men to a crowded street in a less-than-reputable area of Hong Kong. It wasn't just poor. It was known to be home of one of the many clans of the Triad. However, this was on the border of that area. This market held poor and middle-income locals. It was one of the few areas the suits of his targets would not get a second glance. Neither would his own tattered and torn clothing. Sah-him identified that the two men were following a third man. Another assassination? Their new target was a well-dressed Asian man in a business suit.
The two men split to track the man. Sah-him continued to follow their target from a distance. He knew that they would cycle back to him eventually. The target turned and attacked one of the men following him. He threw a stack of baskets down and attempted to get away. The man, the first killer, hit him with a car. Their target died. Sah-him tried to make sense of their actions. If it was an assassination, it was poorly done.
Sah-him watched as the killer frantically searched the pockets of the dead target.
=It's not here,= Sah-him's target yelled in Chinese. =Find it.=
Their target was carrying something? Information? They could not find what they were looking for on the target. The target was a courier? They were looking for his package?
Sah-him was watching from the start of the alley. He was trying to figure out what package was missing. He stood next to the baskets. In the corner of his eye, he noticed a flash of light. He turned his attention to the light. He didn't see anything at first. But he felt compelled to look closer. Finally, he made out the shape of an envelope. The package the target had been carrying. The target hid it here when he left to escape his tail.
Sah-him snapped it up and turned his back on the two men arguing at the other end of the alley. He opened it and found a picture. He pulled out his phone and snapped a picture of the photo. There was nothing written on the back. He returned it to the envelope and dropped it where the two men would find it. He was certain they would return to look at the alley closer. He slipped out of the other end of the alley to watch the two men from further away. The two men found the envelope. They seemed relieved and then returned to the brick building.
That evening, Sah-him returned to the safe house after the killer returned to his family once more. "Hisan, I have two things of import to relay. First, the assassin I have been following reports to a brick building at this address," he said. He pulled out his phone with a mark on the map for the location of the brick building. "It contained security I could not infiltrate. The man works for the people in this building."
"What security measures did you notice?" Hisan asked.
"Security features I noted included cameras, a distance from other facilities, a key card entry system for the door, a lack of windows, and it appeared that the upper floors of the structure were empty," Sah-him replied.
"Vacant could also mean pressure plates," Hisan remarked. He considered the security measures. I will have to teach my students how to infiltrate those measure eventually. But not yet. "I will consult the others and Dam Dhib. No trainee is ready for that kind of infiltration currently."
Sah-him nodded. He agreed that he was not ready for getting into that facility undetected yet. Not with those kinds of security measures in place. "Second, the assassin intercepted a courier. They killed the courier. However, the courier tried to hide the package. I found it. I took a picture of the contents before returning the package for the assassin to find," Sah-him replied. "I made sure to remain undetected."
"Very good," Hisan complimented. "Show me."
Sah-him pulled up the photo.
"Hum," Hisan replied. "Email it to me in full resolution."
Sah-him sent it to him and they moved to the computer. Hisan opened a photo editor, adjusted with the lighting settings, and opened up the image. A message suddenly appeared. CONTACT HUI LI KUAN.
"How did you do that? How did you know to look for it?" Sah-him asked with curiosity.
"We frequently intercept coded messages. The codes are designed to prevent them from being deciphered," Hisan replied. "This photo uses steganography. A message inside a picture. To those not authorized, it appears as the photo. To those who know how to decipher them, it shows the message."
"Do many organizations use this type of coded message?" Sah-him asked. He was hoping it could tell them to whom the courier belonged.
Hisan smiled. It is a good thought, Trainee. But in this case, unproductive. "Too many organizations. They think they are clever by using this type of message," he said. "But it is common. We cannot determine who the courier was trying to pass the message from or to by this alone." He gave a gentle pat to his student. It was a soft encouragement. "I have been monitoring the assassin's home and researching the names I have learned. The assassin you are following is Maseo Yamashiro. He married Tatsu Yamashiro. They have a son, Akio. They are Japanese. Maseo works for ARGUS. You have done well, Sah-him."
"Maseo," Sah-him repeated to help cement the name in his memory.
"Continue to follow Maseo, Sah-him," Hisan ordered.
"It will be done," Sah-him replied. He liked that his training was helping the family find the source of evil that had created Fyers. It gave him purpose.

CHINA, HONG KONG - CONSTRUCTION SITE: 13 JUN 2013
Sah-him followed Maseo for a week before he received any more information. On that day Maseo reported to a different location. It was a building under construction. Near the top of the derelict building, an Asian man was bound to a chair and gagged.
From his perch out of sight from the others, Sah-him made note of all the men present. He could tell that most of the other men despised what was going to happen. Despised but tolerated it. Maseo arrived with a short black woman. An American. She spoke English with a typical American accent.
"Maseo, we are making progress," the woman said in English as she strode across the floor towards the bound captive. She wore her authority like clothing.
Most of the other men stayed as far from the woman as possible. They tried to hide their distaste for her. Their fear of her. Sah-him noted their reactions. This woman is not liked, but feared. She pulled into an arrogant stand in front of the Asian man. "I want you to meet Li Kuan Hui. I want to know everything he knows about China White and why he was to meet her," she demanded.
"Yes, Waller," Maseo said with a tired tone. He resigned himself to this duty. It was one Waller often called him to preform. He did not enjoy this duty.
"I left you all your tools," Waller said with a smirk. "I expect to work late with the new intelligence."
"Of course," Maseo replied. He started towards the table behind the captive Asian man. The man started to get terrified. After Maseo selected a tool, he turned to the captive and removed his gag.
=I will ask you questions,= Maseo told the man in Chinese. =You will answer.=
Waller strode out of the floor holding Li Kuan Hui.

CHINA, HONG KONG - ARGUS SITE: 13 JUN 2013
Maseo's interrogation and torture of Li Kuan Hui was bloody and intensive. Sah-him observed Maseo as he caused the most suffering while causing the least damage, and he learned. This ensured that Hui's answers were as complete and truthful as he could make them. The majority of his answers remained similar with what he had provided during the session's interrogation. The torture was a verification of that information.
In short, Sah-him learned that Li Kuan Hui was to inform Chien Na Wei (or China White) of the location of the Omega Virus. It was a super-virus. The virus was created in the laboratory at BTHK Biotech. One vial of the virus could wipe out an entire city within one day. The Triad, with Chien Na Wei taking point, wanted to profit from the sale of this bioweapon.
Sah-him followed and waited until he watched Maseo enter the brick building. Then he called Hisan.
"Sah-him? Why are you calling?" Hisan asked curiously.
"This report cannot wait," Sah-him told him. "The Triad is attempting to acquire a biological weapon to sell. One vial can destroy an entire city. Named the Omega Virus. It is at BTHK Biotech. I will continue following Maseo. I will report later as I learn more."
"Where are you?" Hisan asked.
"At the brick building. The ARGUS building," Sah-him reported. "Maseo is making his report. They will move tonight. I will continue to follow him."
"Good," Hisan replied. "I will have the family follow the Triad and infiltrate the facility at BTHK Biotech."
"The Triad are using Chien Na Wei to lead this project," Sah-him relayed.
"That will narrow down our search," Hisan relayed. "Report when you need to be relieved or have more information," he said before he hung up the phone.
The ARGUS team finally moved four hours later. They returned from BTHK Biotech empty-handed. Sah-him heard that the vial was stolen from the lab before they arrived. He hoped it was his own people that stole it.
When Sah-him returned to the safe house that night, he learned that the family had not moved on the facility yet. The Triad had the virus. The League infiltrated the facility and got all the digital records they could find on the virus. They learned where a vaccine was being developed and manufactured. Dam Dhib ordered mass production to begin immediately. He also ordered that the teams procure as may doses of the vaccine as possible.

CHINA, HONG KONG - ARGUS SITE: 14 JUN 2013
Maseo led Sah-him back to the construction building for another interrogation the next day. The man strapped to the chair was the one who stole the Omega Virus. This interrogation and torture yielded far less information. The man had no memory of taking the virus. He had no idea who he had given it to. Sah-him called Hisan in frustration.
"Sah-him, report," Hisan said abruptly.
"ARGUS found the person responsible for the theft of the virus. His interrogation had few results. He has no memory of the theft. He does not know where the virus is," Sah-him said. "Maseo states that they have this man on video taking the virus. How could he not know?" he vented.
"Hum," Hisan replied. "It sounds as if another organization has knowledge of Vitura."
"Vitura?" Sah-him asked.
"It is a drug," Hisan replied. "Your target will become open to suggestions and have no memory of their actions while on the drug. The family often uses it to assist in our investigations. For instance, when software that enables the family to view what is being stored needs to updated. Vitura is a temporary measure at best."
"Then the… family knows who is using it?" Sah-him asked.
"No," Hisan replied. "We know that HIVE has much of the family knowledge, but not what they have sold to other evil organizations. I do not think that HIVE is responsible here."
"Then I will continue with my assignment," Sah-him replied.
"Very well," Hisan replied before he hung up the phone.

CHINA, HONG KONG - YAMASHIRO APARTMENT: 14 JUN 2013
Tatsu was setting out dinner for her son when the door to her apartment broke open. In the doorway stood Chien Na Wei with a grin of anticipation. Her two karambit daggers already drawn. She twirled them in her hands in anticipation of her kill.
=Akio, hide,= Tatsu ordered in Japanese as she took in the sight. Then she moved to defend her home. She reached for the katana blades displayed in the center of the room. She retrieved Soultaker, the family katana, from its holder and with practiced ease drew the blade. She had been groomed to carry the mystical blade since birth. She would not die dishonoring her family. She will not leave Akio untrained in the traditions of her ancestors. The bearers of the Soul Blade.
=I am so glad that you plan to fight,= Chien Na Wei said in Chinese. =I would hate for this to be boring.=
=You should not have come to my home,= Tatsu replied angrily in Chinese. =You should not have threatened my family.=
=How else could I send a message?= Chien Na Wei replied. =Your husband is interfering in my business. He is trying to take something from me.= She took a few steps into the center of the apartment. =He is in error in coming against me. Against the Triad. I will take something away from him,= she replied and then spun forward with a darting stab. =He values you, does he not?= she asked Tatsu as she twirled her karambit knives in anticipation. Chien began her attack on Tatsu with her karambit knives flowing in a deadly dance.
In response, Tatsu blocked the first knife and glided like water away from the second. Then she attacked with her katana and drove Chien Na Wei back to the wall with hard fought skill. Each quick slash drove her in the direction that Tatsu wanted. Chien Na Wei was fast with the knives, but Tatsu was faster with the sword blocking each stab and slash.
In anger and frustration, Chien Na Wei started a whirlwind of slashes and stabs. She ended up with several cuts on her arms and legs. She screamed and threw a dish at Tatsu and then charged while the woman was distracted. Her frustration fueling her rage.
Tatsu side-stepped the dish and ran Soultaker right through Chien Na Wei's chest. Her arms were fully extended. Chien Na Wei look down shock at the sword in her chest. She sighed before she collapsed to her knees and then fell sideways on the floor. The light left her eyes.
=I hope your soul finds peace inside Soultaker,= Tatsu said in Japanese to Chien Na Wei's body. She pulled the katana from the white-haired woman and gently cleaned the blade. She covered Chien Na Wei's body before she pulled her son from the closet. She finally called the Hong Kong police when all that was done.

CHINA, HONG KONG - LEAGUE SAFE HOUSE: 15 JUN 2013
Sah-him collapsed into his bed at the safe house. This last night has lasted far too long. He had followed Maseo home only to discover the Hong Kong police present. He got close enough to the apartment to discover what had happened. Chien Na Wei had attacked Tatsu and Akio while Maseo was not home. Tatsu had killed Chien Na Wei with her sword. She wanted to return to Japan. ARGUS failed to protect her family as they had promised. But Maseo didn't want to leave the Omega Virus free to kill people. He was very concerned with the safety of his family, but he did not think they would be safer far from him. Tatsu relented.
Next, Waller had called Maseo back to work. She sent him to an old military base. He was to retrieve the Alpha Virus. The Alpha Virus was required to ensure the Omega Virus was activated. Without it, the Omega was inert. The Triad arrived at the base before ARGUS.
ARGUS succeeded in obtaining the Alpha Virus. With Sah-him's help. He did limit himself to darts and staying hidden. He was sure he was not seen by the other ARGUS agents. He wasn't sure about Maseo. Maseo found at least one of his darts and scanned the surrounding darkness.
It was near dawn when Maseo approached his apartment for the second time that night. He had stopped in an alley and spoke to the darkness around him. He addressed his unseen helper. To Sah-him. He knew that someone was watching him. Helping him and ARGUS.
=Thank you,= Maseo said in Chinese. =I don't know who you are. But I know that you have been following me. I caught sight of you when we were after the courier. You have been with me since then, right?= he asked. =You don't have to answer. I travel to America next. The Triad is going to sell the Omega Virus. I will be on Ferris Flight 378 to Starling City tomorrow at 6 am.= Then he strode forward and into his apartment building.
When Sah-him made his report, Hisan decided that the three of them would follow Maseo to America. Dam Dhib wanted the Omega Virus secured. He sighed. It was going to be a long trip.
