Weeks passed and their situation started to concern Kakashi. He can see the efforts that Sakura is putting up to connect with their little Sakumo, but he can see that she's still struggling to create a bond with their son.
Kakashi's concern deepened as he observed Sakura's struggle to connect with their son. He could sense her frustration and the weight of the situation on her shoulders. Every attempt to foster a bond seemed met with an invisible barrier, and it weighed heavily on both of them.
"Kakashi," Sakura called out to him as she walked into their kitchen holding Sakumo in her arms, crying. "Take him, he doesn't want me."
Kakashi immediately stood up, concern etched on his face as he took Sakumo from Sakura's arms. The baby's cries echoed in the room, adding to the tension in the air.
"Sakura, it's okay," Kakashi reassured her, holding their son carefully. "Babies cry all the time. It doesn't reflect his feeling towards you." But as soon as he said that the baby quieted down and just fell asleep in his arms.
Sakura's eyes welled up with tears as she watched the sudden change in their son's behavior. She felt a pang of sadness, a deep yearning to connect with him in the same way Kakashi effortlessly could.
Kakashi could see the anguish in Sakura's eyes, and he gently approached her, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Sakura, it's not your fault. Bonding takes time, and every baby is different. Maybe he's just more comfortable with me right now. It doesn't mean he doesn't love you or won't bond with you."
"I don't understand, Kakashi," Sakura whispered, her voice trembling. "He doesn't cry like that when you hold him. He calms down instantly."
Kakashi approached Sakura, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Sakura, it's not about you not being a good mother. Babies are unpredictable, and they respond differently to different people. It doesn't mean he doesn't want you. We just need to figure out what works best for him."
Sakura nodded, wiping away her tears. "But I want to be the one who comforts him, who he turns to when he needs love and care."
Kakashi gently guided Sakura to sit, keeping a supportive arm around her. "And you will, Sakura. It takes time. Parenthood is a learning process, and we'll figure this out together. He's still a newborn, and these early days are filled with adjustments for all of us."
Sakura sniffled, leaning into Kakashi's embrace. "You learned quickly, Kakashi. Why can't I do that? Maybe because I can't feel him? Is that the reason? Do I have to have that to connect with my baby?"
Kakashi tightened his embrace, offering solace to Sakura. "No, Sakura. Feeling physically doesn't define your ability to connect with him. You have a deep well of love within you, and we'll find a way to bridge that connection. It's not about touch; it's about the bond that grows with time."
Sakura leaned back, her eyes searching for reassurance. "I just feel like I'm failing, Kakashi. Every time he cries in my arms, I can't help but think I'm doing something wrong. I try so hard not to hold him so tight. And I know, I haven't because he would be bruised if I did. It's just like he was rejecting me."
Kakashi gently cupped Sakura's face, his eyes filled with understanding and compassion. "Sakura, you're not failing. Parenting is challenging, and every parent face moments of doubt. It's okay to feel overwhelmed, but it's also important to recognize that these early days are just a small part of the journey. You're a loving and caring mother, and our baby will feel that love in time."
Sakura sighed, the weight of her emotions evident in her expression. "I just want to be the mother he deserves, Kakashi. I want him to know he's loved and cared for by both of us."
"You are, Sakura," Kakashi assured her. "And he will know. Love is not just about holding or soothing. It's about being there, showing up, and caring. We'll find our rhythm, and he'll feel the love we have for him."
As days turned into weeks and weeks into months, Kakashi and Sakura worked together to establish routines that would help Sakura feel more connected with their son. Kakashi encouraged her to spend time with Sakumo, talking to him, singing to him, and being present during feedings and diaper changes.
Kakashi also made an effort to involve Sakura in their daily activities, from bath time to bedtime rituals. He gently guided her in understanding the cues and needs of their son, fostering a sense of teamwork in parenting.
One evening, as Sakura held Sakumo in her arms, she noticed the baby looking up at her with wide, curious grey eyes. A small smile tugged at the corners of Sakura's lips as she spoke to him softly.
"Hey there, little one. It's just you and me right now," she whispered, her voice filled with tenderness. "I might not feel you physically, but I feel you in my heart. And I promise, I'll do my best to be the mother you deserve." she leaned down and kissed him in his forehead. As she tried to pull away she saw him holding her hair. She smiled at him. "You want to play with Mommy's hair, huh?"
Kakashi, who had been watching the tender moment from a distance, approached with a warm smile. "Looks like he's already found something he likes about you."
Sakura chuckled, gently freeing her hair from the baby's tiny grip. "Well, at least I can provide entertainment."
Kakashi sat beside them, his presence a comforting anchor. "You're doing great, Sakura. He's starting to recognize you and bond with you."
Sakura sighed, a mixture of relief and joy in her eyes. "I know. He is finally accepting me." She looked back at Sakumo and cooed at him. "I love you, baby. Sorry if Mommy didn't at first. But I love you so much."
Kakashi smiled, his eyes filled with pride. "He knows, Sakura. Love has a way of finding its path, and he can feel it now. Our family is stronger than any obstacle, and we'll continue to grow together."
As the days passed, Sakura's bond with Sakumo deepened. She embraced the challenges and joys of motherhood with determination and love. Kakashi continued to support her every step of the way, ensuring that their home was filled with warmth and understanding.
