The next week another note appeared.
'Today we learned what might be the origin of the First Slayer and the weird thing is, apparently up until Nikki Wood's death, every Slayer learned about it. Robin Wood had what he called a Slayer emergency kit, he said it's been passed down to Slayers. For some reason, Nikki's Watcher, Bernard Crowley, who raised Robin after his mother's death, kept it, instead of sending it onto the next Slayer. It contained a book written in Sumerian and metal shadow puppets. Dawn, who can read Sumerian, translated while the shadow puppets played out a scene. And when I say played out, I mean literally. As Dawn read the story, the shadows moved, like actual people were casting the shadows. It was like watching a magical movie. The story said, wise men took a girl and chained her, literally, to the Earth. Then they forced power striped from a demon into her. Making the First Slayer. Giles always called it a sacred Calling. Apparently it's slavery instead. The moving shadow puppets opened a portal. Buffy was offered an opportunity to meet those men. She went though. They tried to force more power into her and she managed to fight it off, somehow. Then they showed her a vision. Under the Seal of Zanzalthar, waiting in a cave in that other dimension, are thousands of Ubervamps.'
"I don't know where to start!" Giles exclaimed. "That's poppycock! If such a kit existed, the Council would know about it. Most Slayers are raised by their Watchers, after all. And why would Bernard Crowley keep it, if it's meant for Slayers? Just because this Robin Wood claimed it was his mother's and that Bernard had it, doesn't make it true! Why did other me not question it?"
"And why would I go though that portal in the first place?" Buffy asked. "What would meeting those so called wise men matter? Finding out the potential origin of the Slayer doesn't seem to contribute any useful information about the First and its agenda. And they just happen to know that there's thousands of Ubervamps under this Seal? How? If they existed thousands of years ago when the First Slayer was made, how do they know what was under a Seal in modern day Sunnydale? Why would I buy any of that?"
"Moving shadow puppets." Giles said thoughtfully. "Maybe Magic was used to hypnotize everyone so a believable scenario could be presented. The actual important information seems to be the knowledge of thousands of so called Ubervamps under that Seal. All the rest was window dressing so you would believe there was a threat, a significantly large threat. That knowledge would fuel further decisions."
"So was Robin a patsy or a participant?" Xander asked. "Like with the Pergamum Codex and Angel knowing where it was and it just happening to have a prophecy specific to Buffy and the Master in it."
"It might be a good idea for me to contact Robin Wood in this timeline and determine if he has such a kit in his possession." Giles said thoughtfully. "Examining it and running tests could help us understand if the information revealed is real or merely a means to an end. On the other hand, if it does exist the Council might destroy it. That contradicts their beliefs that the Slayer is a sacred Calling. They also belief that being a Watcher is a sacred Calling."
"I think you should contact him, Giles." Xander said. "One way or another, it's information and potentially useful information."
"I do believe I will. The Council should have his whereabouts. I'll let you know what I find out."
"Good." Faith said. "And if it turns out to be true, I may just take a trip to meet these so called wisemen myself and...thank them for enslaving a girl and the thousands that came after her to fighting an endless war that they themselves didn't seem willing to fight. I mean if they could empower a girl, that means they had power of their own, right? So why not fight themselves or empower themselves? Why chose to force a girl to become the Slayer?"
"All excellent questions, Faith." Giles answered. "And ones I'd dearly love to have answers to myself."
"And let's not forget that apparently the power used to create the Slayer was stripped from a demon." Cordelia reminded them of that part of other Xander's note. "There's alot of different demons, which one? And why only one? Was it the last of its kind? And why use that method to empower someone? There's got to be better ways to empower someone then using a demon's power."
"Oh, I can think of any number of ways." Giles agreed. "The zookeeper for instance, his method could have been modified to empower someone, instead of possessing them. And an animal spirit is natural as opposed to a demon, which is very unnatural. Yes, there are other, possibly better ways, that it could have been done. This method would be one of the foulest ways imaginable."
Giles contacted the Council, who passed on the info that Bernard Crowley was dead and though they didn't know where Robin Wood currently was, they where able to pass on the information that Bernard Crowley had adopted Robin after his mother's death. Using Robin's date of birth and the fact that he was born and lived in New York City with his mother until her death and having her date of death, Willow was able to track down his adoption information. Finally, she was able to track Robin Wood down. By the time she had the information on his current whereabouts in her possession and Giles was able to speak him, another note had appeared. Robin informed Giles that he did not have such a kit in his possession and didn't remember either his mother or Bernard ever mentioning it.
