A soft breeze brushed through her hair, plowing into her face and tickling her ears. She didn't know how she got there or how she'll get back but what really mattered at that moment was soaking up all of the majesty around her before it disappeared.
The clouds were fluffy and white with a twinkle of silver shining like a single colored thread. She was flying on something, like a bird or… maybe even a dragon?
Scared to look down, she overlooked the fact and decided to take in all the beauty around her. In the far distance she could see a flock of birds flying in perfect formation and it made her think how wonderful nature can be.
Above her she noticed some of her favorite dragons- like the Crimson Gorecutter Arman.
Suddenly, the air around her felt like it froze as did the blood running through her veins. In an instant, the sky, that had a moment ago been a peachy pink and purple color, turned to a muddy gray surface with black specs that used to be little white pillows of joy.
In the distance, she heard a distorted voice that sounded vaguely familiar. It took her a few moments to realize who it was, but after that, it was undeniable.
Her mother's raspy, angry voice dawned on her like a heavy boulder trying to crush her under its weight.
She heard it repeating "Forbidden, forbidden, FORBIDDEN,..." over and over again.
Seconds later, but what felt like days, she felt herself falling into the endless abyss, desperately trying to find a tree branch, or a cliff edge to hold on to, but nothing came her way.
Her mom's voice was becoming louder, angrier, like it was getting closer, the abyss was getting darker.
Everything felt so overwhelming. She couldn't take it. She wouldn't take it. And just then, she saw a distant light.
Trying to somehow move towards it, she saw a figure that looked strangely familiar as well, covered in a black cloak, running further and further away.
Tears, now pouring down her face. Pleading for it all to be over. Just as she started to give in or give up. Let herself be enveloped in darkness, she woke up.
She stayed up long after saying goodnight to her mother.
She never stopped thinking about it. The outside world.
Being the incredibly curious 16 year old girl currently deep in puberty that wasn't allowed to go outside, it was very hard for her to focus on anything.
Her life was clean perfection. The dream of any teen girl or boy for that matter. Living in a paradise in harmony with a whole lot of exotic dragons every size and colour. But that was never what she wanted.
Her mother was living her dream and didn't understand that was the exact opposite of what her daughter wanted.
Katrina also wanted to ride dragons. And train herself with it and without. Her mother of course loved dragons with all her heart. That should work just fine then, right? Wrong.
Katrina met the beautiful, one of a kind orchidian. She hadn't actually met any like it so she gave it its own unique name.
She thought its wide and beautiful eyes and the pattern on the side of its head, made it look kind of like a white orchid.
It had pearl white scales and on the side and back of its head, it had something close to finns.
She had only once ever seen something so remarkable on a dragon before and that's when her mother took her to a deserted island when she was five, and showed her a special creature.
Something her once home village feared beyond all else. The mighty offspring of lightning and death itself. A dragon they called a night fury.
When she met her new dragon, her mind immediately flew to her past endeavor with a gentle creature of the opposite color.
It looked almost like flower petals. That led to the name orchidian.
Katrina's always wanted a dragon of her own and now she found one that wasn't like any other. She felt an immediate connection with this mysterious being.
She named her Hope. For all the hope she gave her about living a free and adventurous life.
But for some reason when her mother found out, she forbade Katrina to see it ever again.
So at least for the time being, she was stuck with training by herself. She always trained at night to make sure her mother didn't find out.
Every night, without fail, she learned new tricks, special moves and incredibly difficult maneuvers. She always felt like she was a superhero when she flung herself through the trees, swung from vine to vine.
Everything about her training made her feel as if she was the only person in the world, but what she wanted was to be in the world alone with her dragon. That was the only thing that can make her feel more free than she already does.
