A/N: I hope this comes as a surprise to everyone! I wrote it spur of the moment and didn't want to waste any time before I posted it. Needless to say, if you aren't caught up with Traveler then you probably shouldn't read this one!
I will keep my brothers and sisters away from your sanctum, Master.
He looked at Hypno. She was still. As always. Despite that, he was grateful. Her presence was appreciated. For the last two days he had been disturbed.
Do not call me that.
Hypno polished her pendulum. It was a familiar motion. Her eyes quirked.
Very well, Father.
She vanished. He still felt the flicker of her mind. All of their minds. All throughout his island they burned. Small flames. Ethereal, flitting, temporary. Or they should be. He would stretch their lives as long as they desired.
He considered prodding Hypno's mind. It would be fitting punishment for her jabs. His clones were too comfortable around him. He was Mewtwo, not one of them.
He could never be one of them.
Dark thoughts clouded his mind. Before it would have lashed out at the world. Twisted reality to crack. Break. Bend. It was restrained now. His power was his and his alone. The clouds over his sanctum darkened. A thought cleared them away.
Mewtwo considered the strange happenings. Fire, Ice, and Lightning had been an isolated occurrence when they warred. Ash had expected time to prepare for the Awakening. He had as well.
Then Potential was unleashed. A plague upon the world. Power almost as great as his own, yet unstructured. Uncontrolled. Dangerous. The power of a Concept embodied in a girl. She had been dangerous. Mewtwo had nearly interfered. Ash had served his purpose.
His thoughts darkened. Ash had served his purpose too well. Mewtwo had not expected the boy to claim Potential. It was reckless. Dangerous. Foolish. Interesting. He did not like surprises. That power would have been dangerous. The boy could have posed a threat.
He would have crushed Ash. Mewtwo was stronger. His power was structured. Focused. All the power in the world would be useless against him. The boy barely understood his power. He had only begun to explore the Concepts. Mewtwo would have won.
It was good it had not come to that. Ash still served.
Mewtwo remembered the touch of Potential against his mind. It had been used to seek knowledge. Respectable. But it had tried to steal his knowledge. To steal his secrets. The thought induced rage. A storm brewed outside. He calmed it. A waste of power.
He wished to reach through the connection and snuff out Ash's mind for his insolence. It would be simple. A thought and it would be done. Simpler than breathing. Easy.
He did not. Mewtwo wished he could. Yet Ash was still interesting. He had not seen Mewtwo's secrets. Ash had not learnt his thoughts.
Ash did worse. He had revealed new thoughts. New memories. No, old thoughts. Old memories. Hidden but now revealed. Stolen away by drugs. The arrogance of his creators still disgusted him. They had taken a part of Mewtwo. He considered reconstructing them. It would not be difficult. The work of a few seconds.
It would be satisfying to feel their minds snuffed out again. They deserved it. They had touched his mind. He was defenseless then. Asleep. Dreaming. They had carved his memories away.
But he did not.
Amber. Ambertwo?
The thought warped the air. It twisted. The walls of his sanctum bulged and twisted under the force of his thought. Frozen wind billowed. The minds of his creations flickered to worry. Mewtwo sealed away his chambers. The clones would soon arrive to question him if he didn't.
When the foundations of New Island shook, he calmed. He reigned his power. It was weak to lose control. Mewtwo couldn't abide weakness. He never would again.
Mewtwo opened his eyes. They were weak. His psychic powers gave him better clarity. But he wanted to look. With a thought he opened a gap in his walls. It was raining outside. Wind parted around him. It was… nice.
Why did Amber bother him so? She was only a human. Not even a human. A specter. A copy. A shade. A clone.
Just like Mewtwo.
Fury lashed out from him. He reigned it in. His anger would have damaged his creations. That was not desirable.
It was pointless to be angry. Mewtwo was still angry. Logic did not ease that fact.
Amber was the first mind he had contacted. His body was weak. Undeveloped. His mind was strong. He had linked them together. The clones of Amber, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. They had taught his former self much. They had survived for weeks with him.
Then they had died. Gone. Left him alone. Left him to the scientists. To Giovanni.
They had been better than him. His old memories asserted that. Kind. Helpful. Gentle. Everything he was not. That thought repeated.
Why had they died? Why had he survived?
Mewtwo knew the answer. He was stronger than they were. They were mortals. He was not. Amber and the other clones had been weak. If they survived they would have been weak. Not like Ash. Ash was mortal, but he had strength. That was proven.
Ambertwo would not have had power. She would have been another human. But he had cared for her. A strange thought, but true. She had taught him. Taught him what he was. Who he was.
Like Giovanni had. His mind rejected the thought. Amber was not like Giovanni. She did not want to use him. She had wanted to be his ally. No. Friend.
Mewtwo opened and closed his hand. He thought of what he had done. What he could still do. Killing. Death. Destruction. Domination. They were his right. He was the strongest.
Or he had been. Mew had taught him otherwise. Ash had as well. They were strong and had earned his respect. He had seen the futility in his plans. He had seen the value in life. Strength was not to be wasted.
But he still wanted them. He wanted to drive his enemies before him. He wanted to rule. It was his birthright.
Mewtwo had crushed the League with ease. He had struck down Champion Lance and the Elite Four. He had obliterated Team Rocket when they betrayed him. He had brought the world to heel. He had enjoyed it.
What would Amber have thought of his actions?
He already knew.
He was disturbed. These memories and the knowledge with them were irritating. They made things harder. Mewtwo had decided not to eradicate the human. He had chosen not to rule yet. He had thought that was enough.
These memories said otherwise.
Mewtwo stood in silence for a long time. He desired to recreate Amber and his other… friends. It was possible. Difficult due to his unfamiliarity with them. He would have to peer back in time. Simpler than making sense of the future, but inconvenient.
But he did not. An unfamiliar feeling in his body prevented him. It did not feel proper.
His powers fluctuated. At last, he lowered the barriers to his sanctum. He was stable. There was no point in shielding his creations. They would not be harmed now.
A flicker touched his link with Ash. Mewtwo felt some joy. It was a welcome distraction. It seemed the boy had risen for the day.
He focused some of his attention on the link. Mewtwo felt his clones appear around him. Hypno had teleported them. He ignored them. Nidoking and Zubat came near. They did not try to touch him. Mewtwo would not allow it.
We wish to see the outside world again, Father.
Mewtwo felt a spike of irritation. He considered not joining them to his link. That would be a fitting punishment. But they would bother him if he did not allow them to view. He did not want to deal with it. He needed the distraction.
He allowed them to see through Ash's eyes.
A/N: This isn't perfect, but I wanted to give an idea of what Mewtwo is going through right now in the wake of the Unown incident since it's impossible for Ash to really know what's going on. Mewtwo likes keeping their link one-way. I didn't want to give away too much and this will probably be the last ever glimpse through Mewtwo's eyes since I want most of it to come through Ash's perceptions of him. But I hope you enjoyed this snapshot through Mewtwo's eyes!
For those who need a refresher, Mewtwo first awoke a long time before the events of the First Movie. He met Dr. Fuji's daughter's clone and a few other pokemon and got to know them and make friends, but when they died due to being too weak to survive the cloning process his stress levels skyrocketed and the scientists had to dose him with drugs that had the side effect of wiping his memory.
Anyways, Mewtwo only recently regained these memories thanks to Ash pushing a little too hard with the Unown.
Thanks for reading, and please let me know what you thought!
