At the castle in New York, Manhattan, two children are playing in the snow, making a snow man, having a snowball fight and making snow angels... Well almost snow angels.
"Emika! Your snow angel is more like a snow DEMON instead of an angel because of your wings!"
Emika, who is eight years old, stood up while wiping the snow off her black and blue winter coat and saw what her friend was talking about.
"I can't help it if my wings need to stretch from being hidden for so long and folded behind me for the same amount of time."
"Hmm..." Seven year old Blossom growled.
"But look at your snow angel! It's a perfect snow angel. Even with your wings too." Emika teased.
"...Well, at least something turned out right."
They laughed and continued playing with the falling snow until they heard yelling behind a big pile snow they used to make balls from. Curiosity getting the best of them, they walked over and peaked over to see what's going on but what they saw shocked them.
"Your such a scrooge!"
"Me? We were supposed to spend time together with our daughter and NOW you mentioned that you'll be patrolling with Elisa and Goliath during Christmas Eve and night!"
Zelda scoffed with her hands on her hips.
"Look, I'm sorry for not mentioning this earlier but I got distracted when Charlie came over and asked if I could watch Emika for a while."
"Oh! Now more crap. Why can't Vox and Charlie find someone else to watch Emika?"
"Because it was CHARLIE who asked not Vox. Besides they probably had something to do and they couldn't find no one else to watch their daughter, Brooklyn."
"But still!"
This made Zelda more mad. She couldn't believe how selfish he's being. She could understand his reason of being upset with wanting to spend time with her and their daughter but to talk about Emika and her parents is not right for him to be selfish about.
"I can't believe how selfish your being Brooklyn! Especially to Emika, who looks up to you and all of us!"
Brooklyn stood silent. Not knowing what to say but he knew what he's feeling... Guilty.
"This is supposed to be a great holiday for us, the kids, our friends and family!"
Brooklyn felt more guilty when he saw tears forming from her emerald eyes.
"But... But you ruined it!"
He walked up to her, to try and hold her face but she smack his hand away and moved away from him. That made him feel sad and almost heartbroken at that.
"Zelda... I'm sorry, I didn't-"
"No," She stared right into his eyes, cold and unfeeling right now. "We are way beyond sorry Brooklyn... I think... I think we probably need some space."
"Space?" He asked, not wanting to believe what she's saying and where this is going. "You don't mean- "
"You know exactly what I mean. Separation. For us to cool off and... not see each other for a while."
Emika and Blossom both gasped when they heard that.
Brooklyn, on the other hand, can feel himself tremble when the word 'separation' keeps on repeating in his head with her voice as it slowly vanished. He shook his head and gently held both her arms. "No! I don't want us separated! You're my world, my life and my love, Zelda. Please, don't do this."
With a teary sigh, she pulled away from him as she gently pulled his hands off of her and stood a few feet away from him.
"I don't want to either but I think that it's for the best right now." She cried.
"Zelda-"
"See you around Brooklyn."
She flew off, leaving him alone.
The two children couldn't believe what happened just now, especially Blossom. To watch her parents fight like this and to separate made her cry quietly. Emika saw that her friend crying, so she hugged her. Comforting her as best as she can
"I'm sorry Blossom... I wish there is something that I could do to help you."
"I wish for something to help me too..." She hugged back with tears.
They hugged for a few minutes until they heard someone calling for Emika. They looked over the pile of snow and saw Vox coming through a portal a few feet away from Brooklyn. But something was different about Vox, usually he'll be in a teasing mood when he sees Brooklyn but now... he looks like the way the red gargoyle looks now.
"I'm here to pick up Emika. Where is she?"
Brooklyn glanced over his shoulder. "She's over there, playing with Blossom."
Nodding in 'thanks', he swiftly passed by him and saw them behind the snow pile they were hiding.
"Come Emika, it's time to go home." Reaching his hand out for her to grab. She nodded and took his hand as he helped her stand up along with Blossom. When they walked back to where Brooklyn is, Blossom stood next to him as Vox and Emika walked by to go through the portal. Before they went through, Emika waved at her friend and Brooklyn as Vox turned and asked, "Did something happened?"
Brooklyn nodded lightly while taking Blossom's hand.
"What about you?"
Vox hesitated at first but nodded.
"Want to talk about it?" Vox offered, mentioning towards the portal.
Brooklyn looked at Blossom, who looked back up at him with a pleading look. With a sigh, he nodded and they walked over to them. Emika took Brooklyn's hand as they walked through the portal and it closed right after.
Emika notices that they're at her dads house and not at the hotel with her mom and her friends.
"Daddy, where is momma? Why aren't we back at the hotel with her and the others?"
He didn't answer but continued to walk from the room they were in and down the hallway to the living room but he pulled Emika aside to talk to her as he kneeled down on one knee to her level.
"Hey, why don't you and Blossom go play or watch some movies in your room while the adults talk okay? Take Vark with you too."
"Okay! Come on Blossom and Vark! Let's go!"
When the kids went up the stairs to Emika's room, Vox let Brooklyn inside the living room first before him. They both sat down on the couches that are on the opposite sides of each other with a medium size table in between them. But what they didn't notice is two small shadows with a slightly bigger shadow on top of the stairs, listening.
"So, what's going on with you? Judging by your looks, I take it that it was something bad."
Brooklyn sighed and nodded as he leaned back his hands covering his face.
"Must've been THAT bad for you to react like that."
"You really don't want to know what happened between me and Zelda."
"Tch, can't be worse than what happened between me and Charlie."
Brooklyn quickly sat up straight at what he said.
"Let me guess? You both got into a fight and she suggested for some 'space' and separate for a while right?"
"Yeah, and let ME guess? That's what exactly happened between you and Zelda."
"Yeah..."
They stayed silent for a few minutes, thinking what to say next.
"What caused you and Zelda to fight?"
Brooklyn hesitated. He wasn't sure if he wanted to tell him the other part of the fight. But with a heavy sigh, he decided to tell Vox the truth. I mean, he knows that Vox would find out eventually and would KILL him if he did find out.
"Well, it started when she mentioned that she'll be patrolling with Goliath and Elisa during Christmas Eve and night, we WERE planning on spend some time together with Blossom during those two special days but when she brought that up, you could say that I overreacted a bit too much.
"A bit?" Vox raised a brow. "Sounds like more then a bit."
Brooklyn slightly glared at him but didn't say anything because he knew that Vox is right.
"Then...um... Please don't get mad or anything but while we were arguing, Zelda said that she forgot to mention it to me because she got distracted when Charlie brought Emika over for us to watch her for a while. Then I acted very selfish. I complained that it's more crap for us to do and why couldn't you guys find someone else to watch Emika."
He looked at Vox, to see his expression. He couldn't tell if he was mad, angry or PISSED. Vox's face is blank, no emotion.
"So," sighed Vox. "How did that go? With more crap?"
Brooklyn flinched a bit when he heard Vox's voice glitched a bit when he said 'more crap', clearly showing that he IS angry.
"The she told me how selfish I am and how I ruined the holidays for her. That's when she suggested for us to have space and to separate for a while."
"...She is right, you know. You did ruined the holidays, ESPECIALLY with my daughter involved."
Brooklyn flinched again when Vox's voice glitched more in his demonic voice. But what happened next surprised him. He saw Vox sighing heavily with sadness.
"I maybe angry about what you said about finding someone else to watch Emika but I'm not in the mood to argue over it..."
This got Brooklyn and the three unseen listeners confused and curious.
"What really happened with you and Charlie?"
"...It started when Alastor and I have our... usual fights by this one was different then the ones we had in the past."
"Aw, come on Vox! Is that the best you can do?" Yelled Alastor.
"Na! I'm just getting started!"
They fought in front of the hotel while the others were setting up some Christmas decorations outside and inside.
"Can someone tell me what happened?" asked Vaggie, watching the two overlords fight.
"Vox is overreacting. Emika made and decorated some cookies, which are very good might I add, then Alastor took all of them and ate them. Emika got upset about it that Vox heard what happened and the rest you know now." answered Angel Dust, handing the Christmas lights to Husk, who is flying around the hotel to hang the lights around the hotel as much as he could.
"Overreacting?"
"Yeah, Oh! And Alastor thought that VOX made the cookies, that's why he ate them but if he knew that Emika made them then he wouldn't have ate them."
"Ugh, my god." Vaggie growled and slapped the palm of her hand into her face. "How long will this take?"
Angel and Niffty shrugged.
Vox and Alastor continued to fight for another ten minutes until they both tripped and knocked over some decorations. Causing all the ornaments to break and more things to break as well.
'Shit' Both overlord thought as they saw the damage while getting up.
"Crap! I'll get this fixed in-"
SNAP
Everything that was broken was repaired and placed safely in the box before Vaggie could finish her sentence. Everyone is confused, who made that snap noise? Then they heard a stern, cold and sad voice behind Vox and Alastor.
"Angel, Niffty, Vaggie. Can you please put that box somewhere else, so that it won't get broken again while I talk to them?"
Without being told twice, Vaggie quickly grabbed Angel and Niffty, dragging them with her while yelling at Husk to follow her.
Charlie walked passed Vox and Alastor. She turned to face them with an upset look. The male overlords are nervous as heck.
"As for you two, let's go somewhere privately and talk."
With a snap of her fingers, all three of them were gone.
A flash appeared in the Charlie's office. Vox and Alastor are the first ones to drop out of the flashing light, landing on the ground. Charlie appeared next but she landed more gracefully then them. She snapped her fingers again and the flashing light disappeared.
"Now," She walked over to her desk and sat on top of it with her arms crossed. "I want to know what happened while I was taking Emika over at our friends place in New York, Manhattan."
"Nothing! Nothing that should concern you dear!" Alastor quickly stood up with a smile as always but slightly weary.
"Hmph, sure nothing." mumbled Vox as he stood up next.
"Nothing?"
That caused them to nervously take two steps away from Charlie.
"NOTHING?!"
Her horns started to form a bit by her anger.
"You guys caused all our stuff to break and that was our christmas stuff that we use for the holidays!"
Vox just stared in shock and fear at her voice, changing from her normal sweet voice to her demonic and evil voice.
"N-Now darling, hehe, lets not get a head of ourselves. We were just-"
"JUST WHAT!? RUINING OUR CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS!? I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT! ALASTOR LEAVE, NOW!"
After a few deep breaths, calming herself down and slowing making her horns vanish. She opened her eyes to stare at Vox with a blank look.
"I want to talk to Vox, alone."
"Of course dear! No problem here!
He quickly left as soon as the door opened and slammed it shut.
A few minutes of silence between them made Vox feel uncomfortable and nervous. He was about to speak when he heard her sniffling. He was confused at first until he saw her trembling a bit and tears starting to form.
"Why?"
"W-What do you-"
"Why!? Why of all months and days? After I took Emika to our friends in New York for a while. I came back for this!?"
"Look, I know that what we did shouldn't have happened but-"
"You're damn right that shouldn't have happened. Especially a week before Christmas, Vox!"
That made him feel guilty, making his antennas slightly fall a bit.
"...I know" He sighed.
"You could've made some more cookies Vox, instead of fighting over the ones that Emika made before."
"He'll just eat or burn them."
"You don't know that!"
"He's done it so many times before, only to piss me off!"
"But he didn't know that Emika made them-"
"Oh! He acts all innocent when your around!"
"That's not true!"
"Don't believe me? Fine!
"Fine!"
They both turned away from each other with their arms crossed. This argument only made Charlie more upset than she already is. Trembling more and causing more tears to form and fall.
"Vox... I think it would be best for the both of us if we have... some space from each other for a while."
When he heard that, he felt his heart froze in fear and breaking into pieces.
"...What about Emika?"
He slightly turned to see and hear what she'll say. What he saw only made his heart break even more. Seeing her crying because of him.
"Just tell her that... I'm seeing my parents for the holidays alone or something. I'm sure you could figure something out."
"Charlie" He was going to hold her when she shook her head and held her hands out for him to stop and move away from him.
"No... Please, just go."
He stared at her and his hands. Sighing with a heavy and broken heart, he left without saying a word
"After that, I went to pick up Emika and here we are."
Brooklyn blinked twice.
"Damn, and here I thought that I was the only one overreacting."
"Heh, can't argue with that." Vox placed his phone down and started to think about how Charlie was before he left. He knew it's his fault he caused her to cry. He ruined the holidays. Just like Brooklyn did with Zelda.
"We both caused them to cry and be upset with us. We also ruined their holidays."
"Hmm, I agree. And we probably will lose them... forever."
Blossom's loud gasp would have alarmed them if Emika hadn't covered her friends mouth. She signaled her to be quiet before removing her hand.
"Lets go in my room and make a plan you guys."
Blossom and Vark nodded as they quietly followed her to her room. Blossom silently cried while Emika turned to volume up a bit from her tv. Vark nuzzled Blossom to try and cheer her up, which it did a little.
"What are we going to do Emika? Our daddy's and mommy's are going to be alone on Christmas Eve and night."
Emika shrugged while rubbing her friends back for comfort. A song on the tv showed up that caught her attention. Listening to it really closely and carefully made her thought of an idea.
"I got it!"
"Got what?"
Vark look confused.
"I got an idea for our parents to get back together. But we'll need help from someone that knows about songs."
"Who?"
"You already know her but I'll have to call to her while my daddy takes you and your daddy home or while he's at work.
"Oooh, now I get it!" smiled Blossom.
Vark also smiled and mumbled in excitement.
Emika nodded and quietly discussed the plan with both of them.
