Darcia Amaris, 12
District Ten Female
Darcia awakened several hours after falling asleep. "Another nightmare..." Darcia murmured quietly, gently rubbing her eyes. For the past two nights, she had been plagued by visions of Arnold's death in her dreams. She couldn't bear it any longer, and at this point, she preferred to stay awake throughout the night.
The sun in the arena had just begun to reflect off the crystal-clear ocean water. Darcia guessed it was still early in the morning as her allies were still asleep. Luis had dozed off during his watch, while Sunny was snugly wrapped in a sleeping bag she had acquired at the cornucopia. Darcia surveyed her surroundings, finding complete silence. The only sound she could hear was the rhythmic crashing of the waves against the shore. The silence was short-lived, as a sudden noise pierced through the air.
Beep... Beep... Beep...
The beeping sound grew louder and drew closer to Darcia's location. The noise was coming from the sky. Darcia gazed up at the sky, trying to discern anything. Then, out of nowhere, a small box attached to a parachute came into view. Darcia took a step back cautiously as the box landed near her boots. She examined the box from a safe distance, noticing her name inscribed on it. Carefully, she approached the box and opened it.
Inside the box, she found a dagger larger than the one she had obtained at the cornucopia. Alongside it was a box of small chocolates. A note from Marietta was placed on top of the chocolate box. Darcia wrapped her fingers around her new dagger but decided to keep the chocolates in their box. She could save them for later, so she placed the small box in her backpack. A few minutes later, Darcia's allies began to wake up.
"Good morning," Darcia greeted Sunny and Luis with a soft voice. Luis simply nodded in response.
"Morning, Darcia. How long have you been awake?" Sunny replied, letting out a morning yawn.
"About an hour now," Darcia answered casually, toying with her new dagger.
"Where did you get that?" Sunny asked, eyebrows raised. She noticed the size difference on the new dagger compared to the one from the cornucopia.
"I got it in a box with my name that landed down earlier this morning." Darcia said.
"You got a sponsor?" Luis asked shockingly.
"Yeah, it's from Marietta. She gave the dagger as well as a small box of chocolates. She knows I love some sweets." She smiled softly.
"That's incredible, Darcia!" Sunny said grinning that her ally received a sponsor.
"Thank you." Darcia said and nodded, smiling softly.
"Should we go exploring? I don't think we should stay in one spot for long." Darcia asked her allies who nodded in response.
Darcia stood up from where she sat, stretching her arms as she stood. Darcia gathered her belongings and the alliance went off.
The first thing Darcia would notice is the e boardwalk rides were running. Which was a first because for the past two days the boardwalk was mostly silent. Now the arena was filled with noises of a running small amusement park.
Darcia would look around at the rides, admiring them from a distance. Darcia wanted to ride them all, and for someone her age, who wouldn't? She was still a child, and she just wanted to have a fun time. However, this was the Hunger Games so she figured the rides were a trap.
The group made their way further into the boardwalk, until two cannons consecutively went off in the distance.
"I wonder who's cannon was." Luis murmured.
"Hopefully both of the canons were from careers." Darcia mumbled. She hated the career tributes, without a single doubt. She wanted to kill Crystal for killing Arnold. However, Darcia wasn't like that. She was a child. She wasn't gonna take her anger out by murdering them. She hoped someone else would do that.
"Yeah, hopefully. It definitely would increase our chances for one of us to get out of here." Sunny said silently.
Only one of them would get out of here, and that's if they're lucky. Darcia couldn't stop thinking about her possible demise or even her allies' possible demise. She couldn't bear it. She just wanted to go home, like anyone would in the Hunger Games. She was going to come home, she just had to come home.
Sunny brought Darcia back to reality when she tapped her shoulder.
"You good, Darcia?" She asked concerningly.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Darcia said. She wasn't fine though, why did she just lie? Was it because she didn't want to worry her allies? Or was it because she told everyone she was always fine when it wasn't true. After killing her father out of self-protection, she was always asked if she was good. She always said she was fine because she didn't want anyone to worry about her.
A few more minutes had gone by, and Darcia's alliance reached the end of the boardwalk.
"Looks like this is the end of the boardwalk, maybe we should camp here tonight because we're at the deepest part of the boardwalk." Luis commented. Darcia and Sunny both nodded and began setting up camp.
As night time came, the boardwalk once again began silent. All she could think about was how she thought District Ten was thinking of her while watching the live feeds of the games. Arnold was their best shot at a victory this year, and now they're last hope was that Darcia, the small twelve year old girl, would win. She didn't know if they lost hope in her, or were cheering her at this point.
When the fallen tributes were played in the sky, Darcia noted only two faces, both of them were the canons she had heard earlier in the day.
"Eighteen tributes left." Darcia thought to herself. Just fourteen more deaths and Darcia could go home. However the question was, would she actually go home as a victor? Or in a tiny wooden casket? Only time would tell.
Day Three is complete and we're one step closer in Darcia's journey. This chapter was more relaxing, however the next chapter is one you don't want to miss!
I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day!
