Ominous Flame
Chapter 68
Author Notes: My toes are curling in anticipation. A strange thing to say this lovely afternoon but after working and doing endless chores-i am long long LONG overdue for a date with my couch. Ok...let's get on with it. I do not own Digimon.
3rd P.O.V
Gasping for air, with his hands on his knees, Koichi saw a horrific, heartbreaking sight. "TAKUYA!" His eyes were opened but he didn't look his way. His mouth was open with some weird dome thing covering it but he wasn't speaking. "No..." He wasn't breathing.
Sobbing, Shinya pushed past them, grabbing his brother's hand. There was no reaction. It couldn't be. "Wake up! Come on!" On the back of his shirt, he felt someone tugging, trying to pull him away. "Kid this isn't the place to be." Shinya shook his head, tightly holding onto his sibling.
The boy with characteristics so similar to his boyfriend showed themselves under the bright light that showed a surgery gone wrong. It was too much like what he saw with his grandmother. "Let me go!" A desperate kid, begging for his loved one not to leave him, and doctors trying to shoo him away like a pest.
Koichi pushed the man that held onto Shinya. "Let him go!" Surprised, the man tumbled, releasing the child before nearly falling on his face. "Takuya please don't give up! You promised not to give up!" He saw Shinya give him a curious look, before turning back to his brother.
The two of them would call out as long as they could. As much as they needed to get a response. Koichi refused to listen to the machines that surrounded him. He knew his beloved was still there fighting. "Get away you annoying punks!" Koichi reached his hand, carrassing the brunette's cheek, only for his d-tector to flash for a moment.
'Point me to the machine, Koichi.'
That wasn't loweemon's voice. Realization dawned on him not a minute later so he did as he was told. His black and gray device was held out to the closet machine to him. He felt arms ready to grab and pry him off.
The raven haired teen struggled in their hold. He felt himself being lifted into the air but he kept his aim steady and true. A bright dark light shot from his d-tector, hitting the machines. The light above began to flicker. "What's going on?!" All of the equipment started to act erratically.
Immediately Koichi is released as the doctor's scrambled to try and fix it. For a brief moment on the monitor, he saw Shagumon nodding to him. Then Saldomon. "The hell is this?!" The scrub covered surgeons balked at the sight before them. "He has a pulse! Holy shit he's still alive!"
It was music to Koichi's ears. "Get the kids out of here, we need to-" Koichi felt something grab ahold of his wrist. "Mor...ning." Tears fell down his cheeks. "Takuya!" Shinya shouted as he sobbed, hugging the other hand that he possessed.
"I'm here kid-do. Sorry...birday." Immediately Shinya shook his head, as Koichi intertwined his fingers in his. "You don't need to apologize for anything. Save your strength." Despite what his boyfriend told him, the pyro still opened his mouth. "Others?"
Of course it was no surprise why. "We're all safe and sound." It was then he saw Takuya relax, his eyes half lidded. "Good...tired." Koichi could only huff, not surprised in the slightest. "Then get some sleep. When you wake up, all of us will be there waiting for you." He planted a kiss to their fingers.
Exhausted or not, he blushed before falling asleep with a smile. Deep, rhythmic breaths were heard. A long awaited exhale left him before the warrior of darkness finally fell to his knees. He rested his head on their interlocked hands.
"I made it in time..." Words couldn't describe how grateful he was to the two corrupt spirits of flame. He had no clue how, but there was no denying they saved Takuya's life. he felt a gentle hand on his shoulder. "Mr. Kimura, i'm sorry to say this but I need you and Mr. Kanbara to return to the waiting room."
He should've known that would happen. Even if Takuya was still alive, it would make sense that they'd have to check on him. "I can't feel my legs, Dr. Ikuro." However he didn't want to leave. Even if he wanted to, he couldn't. The adrenaline that kept him going up until this point was used up.
Were it any other doctor, Koichi wouldn't have been so honest or pollite. In fact he would have yelled at them. "Here. I'll help." Blinking he found himself hauled up by Shinya. It was a bit awkward and a little embarassing that a boy so much shorter and smaller than him was able to lift him to his feet with ease.
Dr. Ikuro took his other arm and together they walked out together.

"Well alls well that ends well." Saldomon snorted at his companion as they watched Koichi being escorted back into the waiting room. "There's nothing else we can do. It's up to Agunimon and Burning Greymon now to watch over him and aid in his recovery." They could feel themselves fading.
Soon, they would be a memory, left to fade in the wind like the evil in Cherubimon. "Wish we could do more, but thems the brakes. We gave him our power and thanks to that he gets to live another day." There was a bit of sadness in Shagumon's tone.
One that the corrupt beast spirit could easily see. "Just because we're fading doesn't mean its the end." At that his companion raises an eyebrow, unconvinced. "I assume that when we go...we'll return to our counterparts. No matter what, we'll still be with him."
Saldomon was unimpressed with the warrior of flame as he pretended to gag. "You mean to tell me I have to go back to being a goodie two shoes? Bleg." Though his swipe against his head was halfhearted at best, it still caused a small ow to leave the other's lips.
"Don't pretend you haven't grown soft for the boy. You agreed to this even after I told you we'd disappear." That was true. Still, that didn't mean he had to be called out for changing over a new leaf.
Instead of answering he raised his arms over his head. "Hey Saldomon...do you ever wonder what it would've been like if things didn't happen the way they did?" The larger entity was quiet for a few minutes. His answer came with a small sigh.
Not a tired one. "Yes...but I don't know how different it would be. In the end, we became more than tools of destruction. We found ourselves with personalities, morals and motivation to do the right thing. We were able to make a difference on our own terms. So really...it doesn't matter to me."
It was strange. When Saldomon was born, he was a mindless obedient slave only to end up being a thoughtful philospher. To think he was the brains, the insightful one among them. Shagumon was the will. Agunimon was the moral compass. Burning Greymon though a later addition was the muscle.
All four of them were important. Absolutely essential to creating Solfernomon, but of course all of them were also influenced. The three celestials and Takuya himself made a difference to each of them. "Guess it's time huh?" They could feel it. A warmth that bloomed in their chests.
"Indeed. Let us offer our final wishes and farewells." Shagumon took a sharp breath, turning his attention towards the sleeping human he had grown so connected to. "We're with you kid. We...may not be there to constantly talk to you or even be there in the same form. An-anyways you got this all the same."
A toothy grin formed on the beast spirit's face when he heard that, causing the other male digimon to blush and turn away. Allowing for Saldomon to have his own little bit of emotional moment with their unconscious human.
Any second now and they'd be gone. "Live long and live well. With the love and support from us and those precious to you, your flame will forever burn bright. Still, our time has come. It is our turn to rest...but not before allowing one final gift."
With a pair of matching smiles, the two vanish, at last feeling peace.
