Sorry this chapter has taken so long. I can't believe this story is almost over. I'm thinking two more chapters with maybe a short epilogue. This chapter ended up being longer than the others so I split it up. I hope you like it. Let me know what your think! - Amanda

Sonny's phone rang twice before he heard Alexis, her voice still deep in sleep ask,

"Is it the girls?"

He ran his hand through her hair, kissing her cheek.

"The girls are fine." He whispered, before pulling on his shirt and stepping out on the deck.

Sonny answered the call on the 4th ring.

12:15 AM.

"Hey. Everything okay?"

It was his youngest son's ringtone, but not his voice that greeted him. What he didn't expect to hear was crying.

"Who is this? I can't understand … just take a minute … calm down … breathe." Sonny glanced through the window at Alexis, the moonlight shining light on her face in the bed.

"Can you try again? Mia? You're Morgan's friend? He's hurt? Yeah. Of course. I'll be right there."

He grabbed his shoes, slipping them on his feet. He would tie them in the car.

Sonny grabbed a piece of paper from the drawer in Alexis' nightstand, writing her a quick note.

He kissed her, knowing she wouldn't hear, and still whispered close to her ear.

"I'll be back as soon as I can."

When he shut the door to her room, she was still sleeping peacefully.

"Francis, let's go. I need to get to the Greystone in record time."

Sonny locked Alexis' door with the spare key and slipped it back into its hiding place.

Running to the car and getting into the back seat.

He was worried for his son and deeply concerned about leaving Alexis alone.

Sonny knew she would understand, but that a small part of her wouldn't want him to go, and that she would let that small part of her feel guilty as much as she didn't want to admit it.

He knew her.

Hopefully, the words he wrote would help.

Sonny began to dial a number into his cell as Francis turned the car around and headed away from Alexis' home.
"Milo, It's Sonny. I know this is your weekend off, but I need a favor. I'll pay you double. I need you at Alexis's lake house. Hopefully, I'll be back before she wakes up, but just in case. Yeah, she's sick. I need you to keep whatever you see or hear while you're there to yourself. If she needs anything you can call me or if there's an emergency, get Epiphany. I suspect you have her number. Good. Thank you. I'll check in soon."

"Morgan Corinthos?" The officer inquired as he pushed back the curtain to the ER room where the 14 year old was lying quietly, his face turned away from the new visitor. "Excuse me, are you Morgan Corinthos?" When the teen didn't turn toward him, he walked to the other side of the bed where he could tell that he'd woken him.

"I need to ask you a few questions."

"My-my Dad will be right back."

"It's ok. It's just a few standard questions."

"Do you have a motorcycle license?"

"Sir. If you'll just wait a minute my Dad stepped out to get coffee. He'll be -"

"Do you know a girl named Emilia Harper?"

"Mia?" Morgan swallowed hard, his head swam with the pain medication he'd been given. The man's face looked like a blur and his arm was still throbbing with pain. "Officer - Officer …"

"Officer Coley."

"Can you answer the questions? Any? Both?

"Officer Coley," he felt a hand on his arm as he turned to see a dark haired woman with a strong, professional voice.

"Ma'am."

"I'm a bit confused. Could you help me for a moment?"

"I'm actually in the middle of quest -"

"Yes, you see, that is where the confusion comes in. I could have your badge taken for questioning a minor without one of his parents present, when he is obviously in pain, sedated, and on strong pain medication."

"Are you this boy's mother?"
"No. I'm his lawyer. Alexis Davis." She put out her hand as if to shake his. "On second thought, I don't shake hands with amateur cops that prey on the vulnerabilities of children. Now, when Mr. Conrithos is in good enough health to give his statement you can call my office and make an appointment to speak with him or I will be in touch with the commissioner, who happens to be a good friend of mine."

"I guess I'm leaving then." He grumbled.

"I would appreciate it. Maybe rethink your career path on your way out." She yelled toward him.

"Ms. Davis? Am I in trouble? What's going to happen to me?" Morgan Corinthos looked close to tears which angered Alexis, considering what he was going through physically.

She smiled reassuringly, smoothing his hair away from his face.

Sonny stopped as he drew back the curtain slightly, coffee cup in hand. He shook his head as he saw Alexis standing next to his son. She shouldn't even be on her feet. Yet, there she stood speaking calmly to Morgan. He started to make his presence known, but it meant too much to him to watch the woman he loved comfort his son.

"You shouldn't be thinking about that right now, kiddo. You need to focus on getting better. Do me a favor?"

He nodded.

"Close your eyes." He still looked anxious.

"I'm - I'm in big trouble aren't I?"

"Close." She said, tapping lightly on his forehead.

"Forget, you ever saw that officer. Hopefully, I'll have him suspended within the hour. You are safe, and you're going to be fine. You just let me handle the legal stuff. Okay?"

"Okay."

"You just let all the adults be in charge of the scary stuff, and you rest."

Alexis watched as he began to drift off again. She gave his hand a small squeeze.

"Will my Dad be back soon?"

"I'm right here," he tried not to laugh as Alexis jumped slightly at the sound of his voice.

He sat down his coffee and stepped up to where Alexis was standing next to the bed. Sonny took his son's hand in his and spoke so softly only she could hear him.

"Come to see me and, yet, you seem surprised I'm here."

"Unsure of how you might react, maybe?" She smiled slightly.

"Well, considering how things are going. I'm close to reacting by firing half of my security detail."

"After all those goons have done for you …" She mumbled.

"Sit. Please." He said.

Alexis eased into the only chair in the room. "Don't be mad, Sonny."

"I'm not mad." Sonny said gently. "At you."

"I mean. Really, how could you be? It's bad manners to be angry with a cancer patient."

She was trying to make him laugh. He gave her a slight smirk, staring back down at his sleeping son.

"I have always been known for my impeccable manners."

She nodded.

"Shouldn't you have on a mask?"

He watched as she pulled a paper mask out of her pocket.

"Do you know what Epiphany is going to do to Milo when she finds out he brought you to this hospital full of people with all kinds of germs?"

"Do you know how hard it is to intimidate an unscrupulous cop when your threats are muffled by a surgical mask?"

"I can only imagine."

"What happened?" Sonny asked, pouring her a cup of water and placing it in her hand.

"What happened? Your youngest son was in a motorcycle accident, and I wanted to make sure both of you were alright."

"What happened with the cop, Alexis?" Sonny asked with a sigh.

She leaned back at the chair, her eyes staring up at the ceiling.

"What always happens with cops in this town? He was infringing on minor's rights by attempting to get him to say something damaging without legal representation, a parent present, and while on mind-altering substances for pain."

Sonny took her hand in his, bringing it up to his mouth, and placing a soft kiss on her knuckles.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome." She replied, squinting intently at him.

"Now, go home."

Alexis' smile was pained. She pulled her hand from his, taking a long drink from her water, and looked over at Morgan finally as he slept.

He was right. She should go home. Her body was sending her a similar message, but her mind wanted to be here. Her heart wanted him close. This she understood, helping Sonny protect the people he cared about. What was happening to her was beyond comprehension. She wanted to take her mind off her current situation and be there for the man she loved, for his son. Alexis knew Sonny was exhausted. She could only imagine the amount of coffee he'd sipped to keep his body moving on auto pilot.

"It was the girl, wasn't it?" She said, glancing back at him.

"Alexis?" He spoke gently. "Did you hear what I said?"

"The accident. He was trying to impress the pretty girl that came over to play video games?"

Sonny nodded. "Yeah."

"Was she on the motorcycle with him at the time of the accident?"

"No, she was not."

"Was she on the motorcycle at all while Morgan was driving?"

"Yeah." He said, shaking his head.

Alexis waited on him to continue.

"Well, unless you've recently purchased a motorcycle and plan on letting Max drive you around Port Charles on it, I can only imagine that it belongs to my - "

"Jason."

"Ah."

"Where were the guards? Were the kids unsupervised at your house? Where was Kristina and Michael?"

"Would you like me to just start from the beginning, counsellor?"

"Yes, that would be nice." She said.

Sonny pointed toward her.

"Manners I have. Nice. Well, I'm not often accused of being nice."

"I'm not going home - yet."

He sighed. Wanting nothing more for her to heal at her house, for Morgan to be safe and out of pain sleeping in his bed at home, and to not be facing the wrath of his ex-wife at all, but definitely before Alexis was out of the room.

"Lex, I called Diane. She was able to get a stand-by seat. She should be here in a couple of hours."

Alexis turned away. She wouldn't show how much it hurt that he'd had to call another lawyer during a crisis, especially since she knew that, logically, it was the best thing for him to do.

Her voice was soft,

"That's great. What I want now is the story you promised, because before Diane gets here I will be calling Mac to report a crummy cop, and I need to know the details."

He nodded, pulling her to him. Alexis tried to lift her head in protest, but he held it to his chest.

"Hey, it's just us."

She relaxed as he placed a kiss on the top of her head.

"First, Carly had come to get Michael after she left your house, and Kristina was asleep. Carly grounded Michael. It must be the weekend for all the kids to make impulsive decisions. Hopefully, Molly keeps her level head for a couple of more days - that old soul wisdom we know she didn't get from her Dad."

Sonny could hear a muffled chuckle from Alexis.

"Second, Jason had been using the garage at the Greystone to repair his old motorcycle. He had just finished rebuilding it last weekend and was getting ready to sell it."

"Oooh, no." She commented softly.

"Oh, yes. Jason let Morgan help with a few repairs over the last month or so and they polished it together last week. He let him ride on it a couple of times with him, but as far as I know, he's never driven it. Until tonight."

Sonny took a deep breath. He was so angry at the situation, but he didn't want to wake his son or startle Alexis who had wrapped her arms around his waist.

"Mia called from Morgan's phone. She left not long after Kristina got to the house. Her sister picked her up around 10:30 pm and drove her the two blocks to her parents' house since it was late. Some time later, she texts Morgan to let him know she left her favorite sweater so that he could bring it to school. He realized that it was on the floor in the garage by the motorcycle because he had taken her to see it at some point while she was visiting."

Sonny shook his head.

Alexis pulled back to look at his face, placing her hand gently on his cheek.

"I sense a bit of rising action coming up. Did Morgan veer from the sweater returning plan?"

Sonny looked over at Morgan who had turned over whimpering slightly in his sleep. He took Alexis' hand and pulled her with him as he went to his son's bedside. Sonny soothingly patted Morgan on the back as he had when he was a baby.

"Shh."

Alexis ran her hand through the teen's hair, wincing at the bright red scrape that had been hidden by his bangs. He reminded her so much of Sonny. She slipped her arm back around Sonny's waist leaning her head on his shoulder.

"What teen girl doesn't think a boy on a motorcycle is cool?"

He nodded.

"He decided to take it back to her. It was just two blocks away . . ."

"Where were the guards?"
"Hell, if I know. Dammit, Alexis …"

"Go ahead, Sonny. Say it."

"If I had been there …"

"Sonny, he's a fourteen year old boy with a crush on a girl -"

"I should have been there with them. I was supposed to be with him. A good father would have been supervising his kids. They're not adults. The guards aren't babysitters."

"No, but you do think they'd hear a motorcycle going down the driveway."

She hugged him to her.

"You're a great parent, Sonny. There was never a day when I was pregnant with Kristina that I doubted that you would be a loving father."

"But you did question her safety?"
"Sonny, where is this coming from? You didn't question who we were as parents, who you are as a father when Kristina ditched the adults she was with today and ran off into the night, did you?"

"Mia's father was the one who called the police."

"How - how do you know?"

"He came to the house when I was on the way to the hospital with Morgan and Adam called to let me know he was angry and that he should let his employer know he'd be calling the police because his daughter had been in danger being under my roof and around my son."

"Wait. This is the second night this weekend that she's come over to see Morgan at the Greystone. Right? She hadn't been forthcoming about where she was going to her parents, I'm assuming."

"I'm assuming the same thing." He said quietly, into her hair.

Sonny took a deep breath and began again.

"From what I gathered, Morgan pushed the motorcycle down the driveway and started it once he got down to the street. He texted Mia when he got there, and she came down to grab the infamous sweater. He asked her to get on and he drove her to the end of the cul-de-sac and back. The accident occurred after they said goodbye. Before the medicine made him drowsy, he told me that they kissed, and I guess all the blood rushed to his brain and plenty of other places and caused him to be a little less focused than ride over. He started out of her driveway. Once he turned onto the road, he glanced back to see if she was still on the porch. The tire scraped the curb and he lost control. He ran into the lamp post, putting his hand out to stop, and broke his wrist. The bike fell on top of him. He has a small burn on his leg, a fracture in his left leg, and a broken rib.

He was conscious and despite Mia's protests - he had her get her sister. They somehow got him into her car and drove him to the Greystone. That's when she called me, crying.

They left once I got there. She text Morgan that her Dad heard them pull back up to her house. Saw Morgan's blood on her clothes and the motorcycle crashed in the street. He lost his temper when he heard who she was with - his last name signifying who his father was. She didn't have time to explain anything. He just got in the car and drove over to the house. I, of course, had Morgan's phone. I wasn't surprised to hear from Adam, then Bernie. Morgan was in shock as we rode to the hospital. He asked me not to call Jason or . . ."

"Her father thought she was on the bike, that she'd been hurt, and he took off to your house instead of getting all the facts before calling the police or seeing if Emilia needed medical attention."

"I don't have any more details …"

"I'm so sorry, Sonny. You must have been so scared."

"I was terrified."

There weren't many people Sonny Corinthos would show his vulnerability. Alexis had always been the one to get him to open up when no one else could.

She looked into his eyes and saw the raw emotion on his face.

"As any good father would be," she whispered. The kiss she gave was meant to comfort him. Alexis could feel the slight tremble of his bottom lip.

"Where's Carly? Shouldn't she be here?"

"He didn't -"

Sonny began, but was cut off by the angry voice that rose above him.

"Yes, I should be here, and maybe I would have been. If the father of my son had called me instead of standing here with you. I got here as soon as the police called."

Alexis dropped her head to Sonny's chest.

"Damn." She heard him say under his breath.

She pushed away.

"The police called you?"

"Yes, Alexis, the police called. Not Sonny. Not Jason. Apparently, it was more urgent to tell you or maybe the police called Sonny while he was in your bed and you - what? Overheard? I mean last I thing I knew you were, dramatically, too sick to function without Sonny, but you could've let him go home to his kid. You're not going to die from the stomach bug -"

"Carly, enough." Sonny warned fiercely.

He squeezed Alexis' hand, but she pulled away. He watched her closely as she crossed her arms over her chest and turned her attention back to Morgan, unwilling to look him or Carly in the eyes. He knew the protective movement was causing her pain.

"Was it an officer named Coley?"
"I think so. Why?" Carly asked, dropping her purse and moving toward Morgan.

"I've got to go make a phone call," she said, pulling out her phone and pushing past them.

"Lex," Sonny said.

"I'll let you know before I leave." She replied, glancing back.

He started to nod as she walked straight into Jax.

Sonny stepped toward her as she lost her balance, hitting the wall. Jax quickly reached out and caught her.

"Hey," he said, "Are you alright?"

She looked down.

"I - I'm sorry. Excuse me. I -" She looked back again. "Carly, you have a beautiful son." She smiled, slightly.

Carly looked up from where she sat on the edge of Morgan's bed. "Thank you." She replied.

Alexis nodded, quickly. Disappearing into the hallway.

"Is she alright?" Jax asked again, looking at Sonny.

"She's -" He shook his head as he turned back to Carly. "She hasn't gotten her strength back from the stomach thing."

"Sonny," Jax asked. "You're sure ?"

He knew his best friend better than that. She seemed fragile within his grasp, much thinner than she normally was, there were dark circles under her eyes. He couldn't seem to shake the feeling that there was something more going on with her. The vibe when he entered the room had lingered and now he wondered what kind of conflict had occurred before he entered.

Sonny met Jax's gaze. He wished Alexis would reach out to her family and friends, but he wouldn't betray her trust.

"Morgan asked me not to call you or Jason. He was scared you would be angry, he was embarrassed, and he also knew you had a lot on your plate with what happened with Michael. I had just talked with the doctor and was going to call you. If it's okay, I can give you all the details later."

"It's been a rough weekend for everyone." Jax said, actually putting a hand on Sonny's arm before going to see Morgan.

Carly sighed, wiping at the tears falling from her eyes, and she held her youngest son's hand.

"He's on a lot of pain medicine. He has a broken rib, a fracture in his leg, and a broken wrist. They're going to take him to surgery in about half an hour to put a couple of pins in his wrist. The doctor said it's a simple surgery and would take about an hour, maybe less. They're going to keep him for the night, possibly two."

"Hey, he's okay. He's going to be fine." Jax reassured Carly, giving her a hug.

Normally, Sonny would feel awkward watching a man he barely got along with in normal circumstances comforting a woman he used to have a more intimate relationship with, but he found himself grateful.

"Wait," Carly said, suddenly remembering her earlier encounter. "Who was Alexis going to call? What is going on with the police?"

"Uh, while I was in the hallway talking with Morgan's doctor, an officer named Coley came in and was questioning Morgan about the accident and about his friend Emilia without a lawyer or an adult present. He could barely keep his eyes open; he was so out of it from the pain meds. Alexis came in and heard what was going on. She shut him down, threatening his badge. She's talking to Mac. The police won't be contacting us again until Morgan is home resting and only after making an appointment with one of us." Sonny explained.

"Oh."
"Oh, what?" Jax asked.

"I guess I should thank her."

"Or at the very least, stop attacking her." Sonny suggested.

"Right." She replied, flatly. "I'll try."

"Ms. Davis?"

The adults focused on the boy that seemed so much smaller than his age as he lay in the hospital bed struggling to open his eyes.

"Ms. Davis?"

"Hey, buddy. She had to step out." Sonny told him.
"Okay. Okay. I thought I heard her …"

"You're mom's here. And Jax."

"Mom?" Sonny watched as his son released all the fear he'd been holding in, his face now flooded with tears.

Carly sat down next to him again as gently as possible. "Shh, sweet boy. It's okay. You're going to be alright."

"I'm - I'm so sorry."

"Hey, don't worry about that right now. You just rest and get better. I'm here and we just want you to heal. That's all we want right now - me, Jax, your Dad . . ."
"And Ms. Davis?"

"Sure. Yeah. And Michael."
"Kristina?"

Sonny smiled down at his son. Kristina was so protective of her baby brother, in some ways even more than she was of Molly. When Morgan was born, it was the first time she had ever been anyone's big sister. She had taken the job seriously, even when she was small.

"Kristina, too. She can come visit you when she gets home. Okay?"
"Yeah." His chin began to quiver. "Mom? Everything hurts so much."

"I know. I know it does. Just try to relax. Squeeze my hand if you need to …" They watched as he took a deep breath and closed his eyes once more.

"I'll let the two of you have some time with him. I need to call Jason anyway." Sonny said.

"You'll ask the nurse if he can have something else for pain?"

"Of course."

Jax looked up from his stepson, knowing Sonny was going to check on Alexis. Carly had vented to him earlier about Michael and Kristina's adventure, not failing to mention that she was pretty certain Alexis was back together with his attorney. In the past, Jax would've done anything in his power to keep Sonny away from his friend, but for some reason that he couldn't quite pinpoint in all the chaos of the last 24 hours, he was grateful they had each other. Not that he was going to admit it outloud.

"Hey, Sonny."

"Yeah?"
"Thank you for everything you did tonight to help Morgan feel safe. You're - he's lucky to have you for a Dad."
