Song: Mary and Joseph and the Baby and me

As Bunny bowed to the applause Tooth hoovered, eager to interrogate Bunny on the story he had just told.

Sandy was 'talking' with North about the tail, the two trading ideas of when this may or may not have occurred.

Jack had drifted over to Trick and Treat and the three were conversing with each other on the accomplishment of getting Bunny to come out of his shell.

It was Jasper the Groundhog who noticed the little donkey making his way through the crowd, careful to keep his long ears up so as not to chance them being stepped on. Jasper wove his way to just behind the donkey and whispered in aw, "Nestor!"

The ears twirled and swiveled then the head came around as well. A joyful and youthful face lit up with a smile! "Hi, Jasper!"

The Groundhog ran to the donkey and gave him a running jump hug around the neck. "I haven't seen hide nor hair of you for centuries! Where have you been? What have you been up to? Why did you seem to vanish off the face of the earth!" The questions kept coming as Nestor giggled and one of his ears came down to hug the groundhog back.

The two chatted for quite a while, walking around the festival grounds and catching up. And it was in the middle of Nestor explaining his long absence that Chesh found them.

"Well looky here!" The humanoid cat purred as his head floated beside them.

"Hi Chesh." Greeted Nestor.

"So you've come back! It's good to see you Long Ears."

Nestor giggled, where once the name may have hurt, he had become quite pleased with his uniqueness and knew that Chesh meant it in a friendly way instead of an insult.

Becoming fully visible, Chesh poked Nestor playfully. "Are you going to regale us with a song? It's quite the night of stories as you know."

"Yeah Nestor, you have to get up there and perform!" Jasper encouraged.

"Well, I suppose that the holidays have been getting in the spirit so why not!" Nestor's ears were up and happily twitching.

(1)Getting to his feet Nestor clopped his hoofs on the dirt and stones as he walked. Jasper clapped to the beat of the donkey's steps and Chesh produced a cowbell from nowhere and clanked it along too.

"The camels said, "Nestor, where you going?" Nestor's words caught the attention of those who were directly in front of them. "I said, I don't know but it's mighty important." The crowd parted and some even clapped along with Nestor, Jasper, and Chesh as they passed. "Joseph is calling me from the gate, Mary's little baby is on the way." A star seemed to shine on them as Nestor sang of how he was guided along by their songs. "I did my best to look out for them, so I took the backroads to Bethlehem!"

Jack heard the song and, not recognizing the voice, took to the air to get a better look. He saw the donkey with the long ears and his mouth fell open. Is that, could that be… But …but…but! His thoughts continued like this as The presentation continued. "Have you ever wondered? How it all went down? Well, you're getting it straight from the donkey's mouth. The king of the whole world sitting on my shoulders. We were such a sight to see! Mary and Joseph and the baby and me!"

Jack came up behind Chesh and his friend smiled his big grin inviting the winter spirit to join them.

"Big star shining in the midnight sky, Jesus was born right before my eyes!" By now Nestor had made a nice turning path through the crowd and was just getting to the stage as he showed how low a bass he could sing with a deep "Yee, Haw".

The star went away as the donkey continued his chorus about the journey to Christmas.

When he was finished, his long ears tucked in front of him like a person would their arms, Nestor bowed.

Jack was there in a moment. "Are you really Nestor? The Nestor? As in the long-eared Christmas Donkey?"

"That's me."

"Wow, I really would like to introduce you to my friend Rudi." He then went into telling Nestor about his white reindeer that loved when Jack told him about Nestor and what God had created him and his unique ears for.

Nestor is from a stop-motion movie that came out in 1977 called Nestor the Long-eared Christmas donkey.

For those who haven't read my other song fiction "Songs of 300 plus years". Rudi is a young reindeer that is given to Jack by North to raise.

Welcome to Advent 2023. May the Hope of the season be with you this week!
