The day after their wedding they went to the cabin for a little honeymoon. A week just the two of them, relaxing, hiking and fishing.

It was their first time they were alone at the cabin. The last time was shortly after her Dad's funeral, as a team vacation. But it was also the time when Jack O'Neill promised her to make her happy. It was the start of their relationship and it was only fitting for them to spend their honeymoon here.

Jack parked the car in front of the cabin and got out to open the passenger door for Sam. When they got to the door he opened it and lifted Sam up into his arms to carry his wife over the threshold.

She hadn't expected anything like that and squealed in fright, followed by the most wonderful giggle he ever heard from his wife.

"Jack, let me down, your knees! I'm not that light anymore, I'm not only eating for two, I now weigh for two too."

He let Sam down and turned her around to face him.

"Honey, I will carry you even when you can't see your feet anymore. And it's tradition to carry your wife over the threshold. I am old, so let me be old fashioned!"

He leaned forward to capture her lips into a passionate kiss.

"You're not old. Just well aged." she mocked him.

"Well, then let your old husband fire up the grill and feed you. Would you like to start on the salad?"

"Sounds great."

Jack went outside and Sam began working in the kitchen. She came back out with the salad and a beer for Jack. He had placed the steak already on their plates. After dinner they sat back relaxed, enjoying the warm sun on their skin.

Because it was warm Jack only wore shorts, that gave Sam's feet easy access to Jack's legs, playing footsie. Slowly her foot went up to his thigh, caressing every inch of naked skin she could reach. A low groan escaped his throat the higher she went.

"You have to stop that Sam, otherwise we'll not see anything beyond the bedroom."

"Well, isn't that the point of a honeymoon?"

"The point of a honeymoon is to make a baby, I think we've already done that." He states and his hand found its way to her foot, gently massaging her ankle because he knew it would turn her on.

"Ok, when you see it this way I think I need to stop..." she said, trying to pull her foot back. But Jack was faster and grabbed her ankle so that she couldn't get away.

"Ah, ah, ah, Mrs. O'Neill. I only stated what's the point of a honeymoon. Never said I didn't want to pleasure my wife, even if I already got her pregnant." A smut smirk appeared on his face and his hand trailed up her leg, the other one guided her foot between his thighs, showing her how ready he was to pleasure her. With her bare foot she gently stroked and squeezed his length. She nervously chewed her bottom lip, not aware that was one thing that aroused him even more.

"If you keep that up we won't make it into the bedroom."

"Then take me to bed already!"

Jack was right, they barely left the bedroom that week. But they still found time to hike around the area and to sit on the dock enjoying the act of fishing. It was the last evening when they sat outside, Sam lying on the bench with her head in Jack's lap and watching the stars as Jack approached her.

"So, the baby issue would be settled..."

Sam frowned, not knowing what he was up to. But she sensed he was nervous. What in the world would make Jack O'Neill nervous?

"Jack?"

"Hmm?"

"What's up?"

"What?"

"Jack, don't play with me. You haven't endet your sentence and I can hear you think. It's annoyingly loud."

"Just thinking..."

"Yeah, I figured. And what exactly were you thinking about? What has it got to do with the baby?"

"You know there is a rule here on earth..."

"Heavens! Jack! You're kidding, right?"

"Why not, Sam?"

"Because!"

"Because?"

"Yes Jack, because!"

"That's no reason Sam and you know it."

"It's a perfectly good reason, Jack O'Neill!"

"We're going to have a baby, how the hell will we have time for a dog? Seriously?"

"Come on Sam! I'm retired, I have all the time now. We don't need to get a puppy, there are older dogs that are looking for a new, loving home."

"You seem to have thought it through carefully. Please don't tell me you already picked one?"

"I may have been to a dog shelter once or twice."

"Jack!"

"All I'm asking is that you come with me and have a look. I just want you to meet him. Give him a chance."

"Him?"

"Yeah, he's an Australian shepherd. Lucky!"

"Lucky? Really? Now you're kidding me."

"You know me better than to think I'm joking when it comes to dogs."

"That's true. I can't believe it. I can't believe that I'm really taken into consideration even going there."

"And that's why I love you so much!"

"I won't make any promises, Jack. Only that we're going to have a look and nothing more."

"Okay!"

"Really, I mean it."

"Okay, Sam."

She rolled her eyes, knowing fully well that she can't say no when he's looking at her with eyes like a puppy. And if the dog is anything near what she's expecting, because Jack O'Neill has a good taste in dogs, the deal is sealed. She always claimed to be a cat person, because she had Schroedinger for some time, but only because it was easier to handle a cat than a dog. In reality she loved dogs over cats. And there wasn't really any good reason not to get a dog, with Jack being home full time. Sam gazed up to the stars, her eyes remained stuck on Jack's face. He also looked up to the sky, his face peaceful with a smile on his lips. His hand was carefully placed on Sam's belly. She was truly happy and if getting a dog was something that would make him even happier than so be it. She could already picture them as a family walking a dog out in the woods.

Their child picked that exact moment to make itself known for the first time, kicking Jack's hand. Sam's hand flew automatically onto his and Jack felt like his heart was gonna stop. With panicked eyes they looked at each other, that was unexpected, but they couldn't be happier.

Leave it to Jack O'Neills kid to make itself known for the first time while its parents are talking about getting a dog.

Not able to say something, tears glistening in his eyes, he leaned down to kiss his likewise emotional wife. And then leaned a little further to kiss her belly.

"Hey there little one! We love you very much. Can't wait to meet you."

Monday was busy for Sam. Catching up on reports, sorting through technology that came back from planets with the SG Teams and starting on some new experiments. But she made it out of the mountain just in time as she promised Jack to be home before dinner. She knew what this was all about. When it comes to patience, Jack was as patient as a three years old boy. When she arrived home she barely had time to change into jeans and t-shirt before they made their way to the dog shelter.

At the front door they were greeted by a seventy years old lady, hugging Jack like an old friend.

"Hey Jack, I'm glad you're here. Lucky misses you dearly. That dog's crazy about you."

"Likewise! I want him to meet my wife if that's ok with you, and the other way round of course, too."

"That's great." The lady told him while turning to Sam. "Hi, I'm Lydia. I own this shelter and have known Jack for quite some years now."

"Hi, I'm Sam. Me too, but we only got married recently."

"Nice to now have face to the name Samantha Carter. I've heard a lot about you over the years from Jackie here."

"Jackie?" she mouthed to him.

"Yeah, aktually Lydia was a friend of my Mom. And when she moved here I made a habit of visiting these dogs from time to time. But while being out in the field or stuck in DC there wasn't an option for getting a dog. Up until now." He told Sam.

"Jack, why don't you two go and see that Lucky can meet your beautiful wife and that baby of yours."

He reaches for Sam's hand and guides her through the next door.

The dogs were playing outside and with one short whistle an Australian shepherd with the bluest eyes she'd ever seen was standing in front of them. Jack kneeled down to greet him properly and play with him.

"Hey buddy, there I am. Sorry it's been a while. Busy with getting married and stuff. But if you behave now and leave a good first impression there might be a chance you wouldn't have to stay here any longer. Say 'hi' to Sam!"

Sam got down on one knee as much as possible, with her belly in the way, to stroke Lucky.

He came closer to her, just to hold his head against her belly, as if to make contact with that tiny human being inside. Jack, seeing that his wife was overwhelmed with emotions, had a hard time fighting against his tears.

She stroked him for quite some time as her hand found its way up to Jack's arm.

"You were right."

"Right? With what?"

"He's exactly what our family is missing. When can we bring him home?"

"As soon as you want to. The papers are already drawn up in case it's love at first sight. What I think it was, by the way."

Sam looked back to Lucky. "You want to come home with us, Lucky?"

And as if to answer he barked twice.

When the paperwork was done they got to take him home. The whole car ride he was to sit between Sam's legs in front of the passenger seat. Not daring to let him alone in the back, Sam was very determined to comfort him in his first ride home.

Jack led him out in the backyard, joining him after he found an old tennis ball to throw him. Lucky was indeed very lucky. He darted through the yard, and Jack was running with him.

Sam watched the two, knowing that today she had made two living beings the happiest on earth.
