Two months had passed and Sam had still two months to go in her pregnancy. She was looking forward to Cassie's visit next weekend. They want to go baby shopping and move her room to the basement so that they can finally put up the nursery in Cassie's old room and get everything ready for the baby.

With Lucky it was as if he always belonged to them, she couldn't imagine ever being without him. He seemed to develop a protective instinct when it came to the baby, as soon as Sam sat down in the evening to get comfortable Lucky was beside her, snuggling his nose to her stomach.

Sam made it home early today, there wasn't much going on in the galaxy right now and Reynolds was determined to give her all the rest she needed. When she came home she found her husband frolicking around with the dog in the backyard. She stood in the doorway watching them for a few minutes. Jack wouldn't ever grow old, at least not at heart.

"Hey you two!" She greeted them as she stepped outside.

"Hey honey! You're home early."

"Yes, no intergalactic crisis at the moment, so Reynolds sent me home. I came to think that he's a little scared about you if he doesn't make sure I'm alright. Why is that?"

"I have absolutely no idea." Jack said mischievously and kissed her when he stopped in front of her.

"Oh I don't believe one word you're saying Mr. O'Neill. Have you two been on your evening walk already or am I in time to join you?"

"We haven't been out, but I thought to walk him a big round today. You're up for it?"

"Sure, you know I love our walks. That's the one thing I don't like at my current job. Stuck in that lab most of the day I don't get enough exercise at all. I really miss these days out in the field, hiking. Where do you want to go? Should we drive up to the Garden of the Gods?"

"Would you mind walking to the cemetery? I've never been there with Lucky..." he stopped because he didn't know how to explain it to Sam that he felt the need to go there today. But it wasn't necessary, Sam knew him without words.

"Of course we can go there. Haven't been there together in a while. Just let me change quickly into something more comfortable."

"Okay, we'll also get ready and wait for you." He loved to see Sam wearing her maternity BDUs, but the jeans and a long sleeve shirt fitting perfectly around her now big baby bump leaves him breathless, and a bit horny. He smiled. He couldn't explain why it made him so proud seeing her belly grow. It was his child she was carrying and that was really hot.

They walked along a little hiking trail that led towards the cemetery, enjoying the last sunrays. It will be autumn soon and they wanted to go up to the cabin before Sam's due date. Sam had one month left at the SGC before her maternity leave started. They planned on going up for two weeks. He closed his hand around hers before she pulled it away and placed it around his waist. His hand found its way around her shoulders.

Lucky, who was running ahead, stopped at the entry and waited for them to catch up. Together they walked up to Charlie's grave and Lucky lay down next to the stone. Still intertwined they stood like this for a long time and Lucky had closed his eyes in comfort as they heard someone approach. But they didn't think anything of it because there were a lot of graves which got a lot of visitors during the day until a soft "Jack?" was questioned behind them. He stiffened immediately, he would recognize the voice among thousands, and that made Sam go on full alert as well. Slowly he turned around to face the woman to whom the voice belonged. "Sara! Hi!"

Hearing Jack calling the name of his ex-wife at their sons grave made Sam sick in an instant. She knew he hadn't talked to her in a while, so Sara wasn't aware of their relationship, their marriage and sure not about her pregnancy. Reluctantly she turned around. What else did she have to do? She only prayed that Jack was okay with all of this and soon she found his husband's hand intertwined with hers.

She smiled at Sara and all she was able to get out was "Hi!"

Sara gasped as she saw Sam obviously pregnant. "Hello! Sorry I... I wasn't expecting anyone here." She extends her hand to Sam. "I'm Sara!"

"I'm Sam." turning towards her husband she said "I'll take Lucky for a walk and leave you two alone."

"You don't have to go, you know?" He said, not sure he said it because he really didn't want her to feel that she was in his way or that he didn't want to face his ex-wife alone.

"I won't be gone long." She squeezed his hand that was still holding her, not wanting to let her go. She turned to Lucky who was standing already sensing that something was off. And with just a nod from Sam he was beside her, walking down the path towards a fountain.

Jack looked back, facing Sara again.

"Sara... Ahm... I..."

"So, that obviously didn't change?"

"Huh?"

"You're not good at talking Jack, never have been." her lips twitched into a light smile.

"Yeah,.. I..."

"She looks familiar."

"Yes. You've met before. About 9 years ago..."

"She was that Captain under your command." Sara realized.

"Yes. She's not under my command anymore."

"Evidently."

"And she's not a Captain anymore." He told her, clearly proud of Sam's development. "We've never done anything against the regs. This is a recent development...but I won't say there weren't feelings for quite some time now."

"She's young."

"She's younger than I am, that's right."

"You look happy, Jack. That's good."

"Thank you Sara. We've been married for a few months now."

"Congratulations! I'm really glad you're happy! How far along is she?"

"About 8 months. Sara... I..." Jack was lost for words, he remembered that after Charlie was born they tried for another child, but it didn't happen. Maybe if they had another child his death wouldn't have destroyed them.

Sara seemed to know what Jack was thinking about and gently touched his forearm.

"It's alright, you were a great Dad and I'm glad you're getting the opportunity to do this again. I assume while Sam is here with you she knows about all of it?"

"Yeah, she knows and is determined to let our daughter know about her big brother when she's old enough. We have photos of Charlie around the house. She was angry when I tried to put them away when she moved in."

"A daughter?"

"That's what the Doc told us."

"Oh boy, she'll have you wrapped around her little finger from the start."

He laughed wholeheartedly. "I think she will."

"Come on, don't let Sam wait, we should go to her, that can't be easy on her too."

They turned but couldn't see her and so Jack did the only logical thing he could think of and whistled for the dog. Lucky came running around the trees followed by Sam.

Jack bent down to pet the dog. When she reached them Jack stepped forward to kiss her affectionately to give her a sign that everything was ok.

"Sam, congratulations! Jack told me you'll have a daughter. You have to watch out, he will spoil her rotten." She said with a wink to Jack.

"Thank you. Not much I could do about it, with Jack being a stay at home dad." Sam also smiled brightly.

"Really?" Sara asked, surprised.

"Yeah, I forgot to tell you that I retired. For good this time."

"Wow, I didn't expect that."

"I made it to General, so what else is there to come? Sam is already a Colonel and will make General way before the age I did. It was the logical step."

The women could hear the pride in his voice and Sam blushed.

"A General? Well, that's impressive. Congratulations on that, Jack."

"Thanks, but I'm still not sure what possessed them to promote me."

"I'm sure you deserve it. I wish you two and your baby all the best. Let me know when she's there. At least I want to say 'hello' to Charlie's sister."

"We will do that." Jack answered. "And take care of yourself, Sara." He drew her into a hug and kissed her on her cheek, and she returned the hug.

Shaking hands with Sam they said goodbye. Leaving Sara at the grave Sam and Jack made their way back home, Lucky already in front of them.

Sam exhaled before she started to speak. "Well, this is not how I imagined the afternoon would go..."

Jack drew in a sharp breath before answering. "Nope, but I'm a little relieved, I have to say. She seemed okay with all of this. She told me she was happy for me.

I worried for a long time how to tell her about us and the baby. It's not as if we are on speaking terms, but I wouldn't want her to be told by someone else. I'm glad we met her. She likes you. Thinks you're too good for me."

"And she's right about that." Sam joked to lighten the mood. It worked.

A week later Cassie arrived, exhausted from studying. But as soon as she saw Sam she was fully awake.

"Wow, look at you! How gorgeous! Will you stop growing at some point? I mean how much more can that belly grow? Seriously?!"

And because it was Cassandra Sam couldn't be mad. She hadn't seen her for a while now and Sam must admit she wondered to herself how much more her baby bump was able to grow.

"Well thank you Cassandra. That's exactly what 8 months pregnant women want to hear! I'm glad you're here."

"Me too." Cassie said while gently touching Sam's belly.

"Come on in. We can sit down and you can have some time to connect with your sister. Just let me get comfortable. Jack and Lucky will be back soon. They're doing their morning round. I'm sure he will like you, but be aware he's very protective about your sister."

"I'm sure he'll like me. But just in case I brought some treats."

They talked for a while and suddenly Sam grasped Cassie's hand to put it on her belly. Shocked, Cassie felt the baby kick.

"Holy shit! I didn't know you could feel it that well from the outside. She must be kicking really hard."

"You get used to it. It still is amazing every time this happens."

That moment Jack chose to open the door and Lucky came running straight to Sam. Trying to get on the couch as well he squeezes himself in between Sam and Cassie, just to put his head on top of Sam's stomach. Felling little Janet kick he nudged her back with his paw as he always did.

Sam only looked up to Cassie with a look in her face that told her 'I told you so'.

"That's amazing. Hello Lucky, I'm Cassie." She introduced herself to him, holding a treat out to him, just in case. Lucky studied her for a moment, took the treat, snuggled quickly into her before he went back to Sam. Jack came down to the living room to greet her as well.

"Hey kiddo, how are you doing?"

"Hey Jack, I'm fine. I just admire the dog. Trying to make friends with him."

"Maybe now it's still possible, but as soon as the baby is born I'm pretty sure we won't see much of any of them. Neither the dog nor the baby." He joked, with a little concern it might be true.

He sat down next to Cass, looking at his wife as Sam began to speak.

"Cassie, we need to tell you something. We decided on it quite a while ago but wanted to tell you in person."

"Do I have to be worried?"

"No! No, not really. We wanted to tell you that we decided on a name for your sister. Both of us wrote down a name we liked for the baby. Surprisingly we wrote the same name."

"That's great, so no fight about silly names. Could have guessed you were in unison." But when they stayed quiet Cass had a feeling that's not all. "There's more to it, right?"

Jack nodded towards Sam, giving her the opportunity to tell.

"We both were pretty sure we wanted a strong name for our daughter. One she could look up to. One that could be a role model for her. we both decided we wanted you to be the first one to know, the only name we wanted was Janet."

Like Sam a few weeks back Cassie felt her heart stop. This was just perfect for her little sister. The name of Cassandra's second Mom. She fell around Sam's neck, hugging her tightly and then turned around to do the same with Jack.

"Guys this is just perfect. Mom would be honored. It's the perfect name for this little miracle. She'll grow up as the strong woman her namesake was. I love you all so much."

"And we do love you Cassie. I'm really glad that you don't mind the name. It was important for us. The name and that you'd be okay with it."

And again the baby kicked where Cassie's hand was spread out on Sam's stomach. "We'll hello little Janet! I'm your sister Cassie. When you're old enough I'm going to tell you all about the amazing woman you get your name from. She was my second Mom and she was pretty amazing."

While Cassie spoke Sam's eyes searched for Jack's. Both glistening with tears, happy that the name was approved by one of their most important family members.
