Saturday morning all their friends turned up to help move the furniture. Cam and Daniel took apart the things that won't fit through the doors while assembled. Cassandra was just finishing painting her basement and Teal'c and Jack carried everything downstairs.

"You know that I'm supposed to help, right? I'm not ill, I have two hands that can help."

"We know Sam." Daniel reassured her. "And I'm sure there will be something you can put back together in Cassie's room or you can build some of the nursery stuff. But at the moment we need to finish the taking apart part. Just relax for a minute, we've got it covered."

Jack came upstairs with Lucky in tow.

"Why don't you two go for a walk? I haven't been out with Lucky yet. You could stop at the bakery and get us some cake for later."

"Do you just want me gone so that I'm not feeling useless or do you really want to have cake?"

"What kind of a question is that, wife? I know you're very capable of helping, but with all the man power we've got there is not much to do for you. And honestly, do you really question my need for cake? Really?"

She had to laugh heartily.

"No, not really, Jack! Well, cake it is then. Come on Lucky, let's get out of here and let the men work. The woman has to bring the food."

"You know that's a very important duty, Sam. I wouldn't trust just anybody with buying cake."

"I know, and you can make it up to me later that you treated me like a cliche right now." Sam answered seductively.

"Oh I will do that. I promise!"

She took Lucky and left the house. And because there was nothing for her to do at home she went with Lucky to their favorite trail. A five mile walk through the woods of Colorado Springs might sound ambitious to someone untrained, but for Sam it was just the right distance to spend two hours of free time. She missed being out in the field and this exact trail reminded her of all the woodland planets they visited together, that's why she loved it so much.

The dog loved it as well, he didn't have to be on a leash. He ran in front of Sam and once in a while stopped to wait for her to catch up. Not so much longer and they'll walk this trail as a family. Sam beamed at the thought of it. A small bundle wrapped around her front, her husband at her side and the dog in front. She never thought about herself as very maternal, but with the right guy it just felt great.

They took a break halfway through. Sam was glad that she remembered to take some water for Lucky and herself. She sat on a bench, eyes closed. The dog had made himself comfortable next to her feet, enjoying the sun as well. Sam placed her hands on her belly and rubbed it slightly.

Lately she experienced braxton hicks contractions a few times a day, nothing painful but regularly. She knew her body was preparing for birth and all steps of the way amazed her.

A few weeks back, she had started her birth preparation course. She thought long about whether to do one or not, but given her age and this being her first pregnancy she decided to do it. They were six women in her course from a very young age up to women that were older than her. They learned how to prepare for the birth, the different stages of birth, breathing techniques and some positions that might feel comfortable during labor.

Sam was confident to know enough to get through this. Women give birth every day, right? And she would make it too.

There was a follow up course which was a partner course. She wasn't sure how to approach the subject with Jack because she really wanted him to come with her.

It wasn't his first time becoming a Dad, but he wasn't there when Charlie was born. He was stuck overseas and only made it home two days late. He regretted this and she knew it. They hadn't talked about whether he wanted to be with her this time, but she just assumed he would.

She would have to ask him sooner than later, since the course started next week and they're leaving for the cabin in two weeks.

Deciding this could wait until tonight she stood up. Instantly Lucky stood up too. They made their way back through the forest, with a quick stop to buy the cake.

As she entered her home everyone sat outside at the large table, sandwiches and a drink in front of them. Seeing Sam walking into the kitchen Jack was quickly by her side.

"Hey, you've been gone for a long time. I was worried." He told her while his hands wandered around her waist until he was able to stroke her belly, resting his chin on her shoulder.

"You told me to go, remember? I was in your way."

"Are you mad at me?" Concern filled his voice and Sam had to smile.

"No Jack, I'm not mad. I used the time to take Lucky to our favorite trail. Hiking 5 miles takes its time, especially while being pregnant."

"5 miles? Alone?"

"I'm a big girl, Jack. Nothing to worry about. And I had the dog with me. Everything is fine."

As soon as she'd said that, Jack felt her stomach harden underneath his fingers and Sam breathing a bit more consciously.

"Sam?"

"Just braxton hicks contractions, nothing serious. My body is just preparing for birth. Her head still has to go into my pelvis anyway."

"Okay."

"As much as I'm enjoying this, shouldn't we meet our friends outside? After all, they came here to help us."

"The pack is currently being fed, they won't miss us."

Not able to let go of his wife just yet he snuggled his nose even closer to the sweet spot under her ear.

"Jack, there's something I wanted to talk to you about."

"What is it?"

"Remember that I'm doing my birth preparation course?"

"Yes, I remember. And I'm pretty sure I don't want to know what you want to talk about, right?"

"Please, Jack. There's this partner course..."

"I knew it."

"Can you at least let me finish?"

"Sam, really, can you imagine me at a birthing class?"

"No. Honestly, I can't. But that doesn't mean I don't want you to. Jack, it would mean so much to me. You want to be with me during birth, don't you?"

"There's nothing that could keep me away from this. But Sam..."

"Jack I would feel more relaxed if I wasn't the only one being taught what to do when the baby comes. It's mostly about how you can support me during labor. We're only six women, so no big group."

"You do realize that I will be the oldest there?"

"Oh Jack, age doesn't matter at all. There are also women older than me. But if you don't want to then that's how it is. I just wanted to ask."

"Sam, you realize I would do everything for you, don't you? Of course I'll go with you. I know what that means to you and honestly, this time I'll do it right. I will be there for labor and birth. I promise! I won't miss it and I'll go with you. Let's learn how to breathe, hm?"

She turned around in his embrace and pulled his head down so she could kiss him.

"You have no idea how much I love you Jack O'Neill."

"Mmh, I think I do, but you can show me later, Carter!"

He stole one last kiss before he took her hand and led her outside to where their friends were eating.

"Have a sandwich, I'll prepare the cake and be right back."

She sat between Cassie and Daniel, across from Cam and Teal'c, as Jack reappeared with cake, plates and forks.

"Thank you all for coming and helping us. We really do appreciate it." Jack said.

"You do know that this baby kind of belongs to all of us, right? Except maybe Cam. But the rest of us were stuck in the middle of your forbidden romance for much too long. We deserve your happy end as much as you two do." Daniel told them.

"Okay, I get your point. And while it seems this baby is a team baby you sure deserve the next news as well. Sam, do you want to tell them?"

"It's your turn, Jack. I got to tell Cassie, you can tell the rest of them."

All looked a little concerned but curious toward Jack.

"Alright, since we know we're having a daughter we finally decided on a name for her.'' The air was filled with silence and anticipation. "We wanted to give her a name that she would always be proud of. There wasn't much of a discussion because we both wanted the same name for our daughter. We are relieved that Cassie agreed with it, so we are proud to tell you that her name will be 'Janet'!"

Cassie reached for Sam's hand, Daniel started to cry silent tears and Teal'c also had a look of reverence on his face. Cam never had met Janet but was aware of the meaning of the name.

"That's very fitting guys. She would be proud of this! I can't wait until I can hold little Janet for the first time." Daniel said.

"Congratulations on the name, you two. That's great." Cam answered.

"She will possess the name of a woman with a big heart and that was also a great warrior. You chose the name well. Congratulations!" Teal'c smiled.

Jack's foot found Sam's under the table in need to make physical contact with his wife. They were glad all of their friends approved and loved the name they had chosen for their daughter.

She would grow up in a loving environment with the best people they choose to be their family.
