Authoress Note: Welcome to Chapter 5 of Wings of the Fae. I want to thank those who have left reviews for this story. I honestly can't wait to show you guys more of what will happen. I have many ideas going through my head to make sure that this story is good in length. I have a feeling that this is probably going to be over 30 chapters. Reviews truly do mean a lot to me and it helps keep me going when it comes to writing. I've been on a burn lately writing this story out. I have others that I have to rework and make sure that they fit in with my writing… I do have an elven fic for the Hobbit. But haven't gotten around to rewriting it and making it one story instead of writing it in separate stories. Without further ado Chapter 5. ENJOY!

Chapter 5

The dwarves and fae rode their ponies and Gandalf was on his horse going through a wooden area. The dwarves complained that it was a waste of time to try and get a hobbit to help them. They even went as far as making bets on if or when the hobbit would end up joining them or not at all.

Win clicked her tongue making her pony makeup to the side of Thorin. "Think it wise to allow them to bet on if the hobbit shows?"

"It's their gold…" Thorin said, shaking his head as he kept his eyes ahead. "They can do what they wish with it."

Win let out a soft hum as she looked over at him out of the corner of her eyes. "I know what you think Thorin."

"You know I cannot protect him," Thorin said, looking over at her. "Much like I cannot protect everyone in the company."

"I know Thorin, we're worth our salt. I know Aurora, Shaylee, and Linetta all have trained in the field just like you and the others… A few old warriors can help teach the youth."

Thorin let out a soft hum looking over at her his eyes twinkling slightly. "I know that we will be able to protect everyone… but the hobbit…"

"He doesn't know anything about a sword or ax… I don't blame you for not liking the idea of having him…"

Further back in the pack Aurora was riding next to Kili and Shaylee was riding next to Fili.

"So you answered the call? Why?" Kili asked, looking over at Aurora with a curious gaze.

Aurora let out a soft hum as she gripped the reins of her pony. "Heard many tales of the Lonely Mountain. And how not only the dwarven kind lost their home… A few fae lost their lives that day. That woman next to Thorin. Her name is Win and she is the daughter of the King that lost his life that day. We don't know the full tale, but we know that Win said she would answer the call if he called and she did… and fae… no matter our courts." Aurora took a soft breath. "We made a vow all those years ago to also join in."

"So you joined in but no one else did?" Kili asked in awe trying to figure it out.

Shaylee looked over at Aurora and nodded her head.

Aurora took a breath. "Our families or kind didn't want to get involved… I suppose that is how four royals decided that the call needed to be honored."

"Wait royals?" Fili questioned slowing his pony a bit hoping that he had heard right.

"You're royal?" Kili said, looking at Aurora.

"Yes. I know that Shaylee, Linetta, and I are on the young side, and Win is the eldest of us, not much younger than Thorin I believe…"

Kili bit his lip looking up to where his uncle was and saw a rare smile on his uncle's face. He decided not to say anything about his uncle seeing him smile a rare smile that he hadn't seen in quite some time. Perhaps Win was something to him.

Aurora's ears twitched looking over at Shaylee. "Do you hear that?"

"Yeah… sounds like someone is saying wait."

"I don't hear anything," Fili said, looking at the two fae girls.

"Our hearing is rather… sensitive. I swear I hear someone saying wait." Aurora said turning in her pony's saddle and looking back, her blonde hair swishing around as she tried to look and see if anything was coming.

"Wait! Wait!"

They slowed their ponies as Bilbo caught up to them.

Bilbo moved forward and handed Balin the contract. "I signed it!"

Balin took the contract and inspected it with his pocket-glass. He smiled at Bilbo seeing that everything was in order. "Everything appears to be in order. Welcome, Master Baggins, to the company of Thorin Oakenshield."

The dwarves cheered along with the three younger fae.

Thorin and Win didn't look impressed by what Bilbo had done.

Thorin waved his hand. "Give him a pony."

"No, no, no, no, that-that won't be necessary, thank you, but I-I'm sure I can keep up on foot. I- I-I've done my fair share of walking holidays, you know. I even got as far as Frogmorton once-WAGH!" Bilbo was lifted by two dwarves and put upon a pony.

Linetta looked at Bilbo offering him a small smile as the pony neighed, tossing its head back making him uncomfortable. "She's not going to hurt you, Bilbo." She said before chuckling lightly. "No pony or horse does harm to their riders. Try to ease up and be comfortable."

"Come on, Nori, pay up. Go on." Oin called out to the dwarf that was ahead of him.

Nori tossed a sack of money to Oin.

Other sacks were passed between the dwarves.

"Hey, hey, hey!"

Some of the dwarves laughed.

"What's that about?" Bilbo asked, rather confused.

"Oh, they took wagers on whether or not you'd turn up. Most of them bet that you wouldn't." Gandalf pointed out as he continued to ride ahead.

"What did you think?"

"Hmmm." Gandalf caught a sack of money tossed his way and he put it into his bag. "My dear fellow, I never doubted you for a second."

Bilbo sneezed loudly. "Ohh. All this horse hair, I'm having a reaction." He searched his pockets for the handkerchief that he would have, but he was unable to find it. He looked up with wide eyes. How could he forget such a thing? "No, no, wait, wait, stop! Stop! We have to turn around."

Win let out a groan bringing her pony to a stop. Her violet-colored eyes drifted back to the Hobbit. What could he possibly need to turn back around for? They simply couldn't turn around for something that was missing.

"What on earth is the matter?" Gandalf questioned his brows furrowed together in worry.

"I forgot my handkerchief."

Bofur tore a strip of cloth from his clothing and tossed it to him. "Here! Use this."

Bilbo caught it and looked at it in disgust.

The dwarves laughed.

Win shook her head and looked towards Thorin.

"Move on," Thorin called out simply to get his crew moving once again.

"You'll have to manage without pocket handkerchiefs and a good many other things, Bilbo Baggins before we reach our journey's end. You were born to the rolling hills and little rivers of the Shire, but home is now behind you; the world is ahead."

Win looked over at Thorin out of the corner of her eyes as she clicked her tongue to get her pony to move again. "So where are we stopping for the night?" She asked softly as she kept her voice down low so no one could hear what she was talking about between the two of them.

Thorin looked over at her out of the corner of his eyes. "We are to stop at Bree to gather some supplies and rest for the evening."

Win let out a soft hum. "Some place where dwarves, hobbits, and fae are probably not welcomed that well."

"You guessed right, milady."

Win's lips quirked a little bit as she looked over at Thorin. "Sounds like a rough night for us all." She mused softly knowing that was to be very the case.

This is the end of Chapter 5. I hope that you guys enjoyed this chapter. I tried my best to add some extra scenes into this chapter to make it long enough. I hope that it turned out well. I have a long way to go before the first movie is all finished. I know that this is one of my shorter chapters for this story which usually means that it is under 2000 words. I know my other chapters are always a bit longer than this one. The next chapter will be pure OG of characters bonding with one another. I think I have a pretty good idea of who to pair whom with. Please leave a review and let me know what you think of this chapter. Reviews help me keep going when it comes to writing. It helps keep the muse going. I hope to have the next chapter out soon. Until next time.
