The air in the room was thick with unsaid words and emotions as Jack and Livvie faced each other. The heat from the fire cast a warm glow on their faces, highlighting the intensity of the moment. Livvie's eyes, filled with a mixture of regret and hope, met Jack's gaze, which flickered with a complex blend of anger, hurt, and a lingering affection.

"Jack." She breathed out; as he rested his head against hers. "I can't quit you." He said breathlessly. "It doesn't matter what you do to me; or how badly you hurt me. My heart is yours; it's always been yours and you won't give it back to me." He continued as she draped her hand against his cheek, his lips touching her finger tips as he looked back up at her.

For a moment, time seemed to stand still. The world outside faded away, leaving just the two of them in the quiet room, inches apart. Livvie's breath hitched as Jack leaned in closer, their faces mere inches apart. She could feel the warmth of his breath, mixing with hers, creating a charged atmosphere that spoke of years of shared history and unspoken feelings.

Lucas's sharp, terrified cry sliced through the tense silence, pulling Jack and Livvie abruptly from their moment of near-reconciliation. They both leaped to their feet, their previous interaction hanging unfinished in the air, now replaced by a surge of parental urgency.

Rushing to Lucas's room, they were confronted with a scene straight from their darkest nightmares. A dense, dark cloud hovered menacingly over Lucas's bed. Within the swirling mass, a man's face, twisted with rage and recognition, emerged, glaring directly at Livvie. "You!" it hissed, its voice echoing with a chilling familiarity.

Livvie stared at him with shock, her head shaking in complete and utter fear as the memory; one she'd done her best to forget of driving a dagger into Caleb's heart all those years earlier played over in her head. "not again!" she gasped, her voice laced with terror and a deep sense of foreboding.

As Jack snapped on the light, the ghostly apparition dissolved into the night, vanishing through the open window. The sudden brightness seemed to banish the immediate threat, but the air remained thick with fear and uncertainty.

Jack quickly shut and locked the window as Livvie rushed towards the bed; Lucas raising up as she pulled him into a hug, both sinking back down onto the bed. "Mom, I am so scared." He sobbed as Jack lightly patted his back before nodding at Livvie. "I'll call Lucy; she'll know what to do." Jack said stepping out of the room for a moment while Livvie laid with their son, consoling him. "Who is he?" Lucas asked.

Lucas's question hung heavily in the air, a stark reminder of the complexities and dangers of their past that were now encroaching on their present. Livvie, holding her son close, felt a surge of protective instincts and maternal love. She knew that explaining the truth about Caleb Morley, a figure so deeply intertwined with their family's dark history, was not going to be easy, especially for a child.

"He's... someone from our past, someone we thought we'd left behind," Livvie said softly, choosing her words carefully. The fear in Lucas's eyes was palpable, and she strove to find a balance between honesty and reassurance. "But you don't need to worry. Your dad and I, we've dealt with him before. We'll keep you safe."

Jack, standing just outside the doorway, dialed Lucy's number with a sense of urgency. The encounter with the apparition had confirmed that the threat was real and immediate. "Lucy, it's Jack. Caleb Morley is back," he said quickly as soon as the call connected. His voice was firm, betraying the gravity of the situation.

Back in the room, Lucas clung to Livvie, his small body shaking. "But why did he come for me?" he whispered, his voice quivering with fear.

Livvie stroked his hair gently, struggling to mask her own fear for the sake of her son. She couldn't even begin to understand Caleb's intentions; much less explain them. "I don't know, baby. What I do know is that we're family and we protect each other!"

"Yea; I don't know. Livvie and I seen him hovering over the kids bed! I know, look; just get here, I mean Livvie and I've faced him but this is your territory, Lucy." Jack stared at Livvie and Lucas through the cracked door before he hung up. "Lucy will be here in about fifteen minutes." Jack said walking in and laying down on the other side of the bed.

"Does she have any idea why Caleb would come after Lucas?" Jack shook his head as Lucas nestled against him. Livvie, even in the uncertainty of the moment couldn't help but take a mental photo of the moment before she stood up. "I think I have some things in the attic that we'll need; I'll be right back." She said walking out of the bedroom, and out to the garage where the attic entrance was located.

Once she pulled the door and stairs down, Livvie climbed the creaky steps into the dimly lit space, her mind racing with memories of the past and the tools they had used to combat the supernatural. She sifted through boxes and old trunks, looking for anything that might give them an edge against Caleb.

Her hands finally settled on a dusty box labeled "Lucy's Keepsakes", filled with items from their past encounters – protective amulets, ancient texts, and other relics. "Lucy; who knew that your wacky hobby would come in hand.." She said picking the box up and sitting it near the stairs; grabbing a flashlight from the ground, she flicked it on; scanning the area before stopping at the sight of a large old photo of Caleb and his wife; Olivia, the one before her. "Olivia." She heard him whisper in her ear as she whipped her head around, flashing the light at nothing.

"Caleb, I know that you can hear me! I will give you whatever you want; just leave my son alone! I am begging you!" She pleaded in the air, certain that He'd hear her wherever he was; undoubtedly close. Livvie searched the attic a bit more, finding a box of crosses; setting them by the stairs as well before making the trip down the steps with each box.

"Livvie." Jack peered out of the door; giving her a fright as she shrieked. "oh. I'm sorry but Lucy is here! She's with Lucas." Livvie nodded handing him a box before closing the attic and picking up the last box. They hurried back inside, shutting and locking the door before walking into the living room where Lucy sat with Lucas; a blanket draped around his body.

"& you heard a voice when you were walking by the church?" She asked him as he nodded. "What did the voice say?"

"The voice, it was like a whisper, but clear," Lucas explained, his eyes wide and filled with a mix of fear and curiosity. "It kept calling my name, asking for help. Saying it was trapped and couldn't breathe."

Lucy nodded thoughtfully, her expression serious yet calm. She turned her attention to Livvie and Jack, who had just entered the room. "It's not uncommon for spirits, especially those with unfinished business or a powerful presence, to lure the living, especially those they have a connection with."

Livvie set down the box of relics on the coffee table, her hands slightly trembling. "Connection? But Lucas never knew Caleb."

Lucy glanced at the box then back at Livvie. "It may not be a direct connection. Caleb's ties to this family are complex and, unfortunately, still influential."

Jack, standing by the doorway, spoke up. "What do we do now, Lucy? How do we protect Lucas and get rid of Caleb for good?"

Lucy opened the box, examining the contents. "First, we fortify the house. These amulets and crosses will help. We'll need to perform a cleansing ritual and set up protective barriers. But most importantly, we need to understand what Caleb wants. His return, targeting Lucas, it's all intentional."

Livvie and Jack both nodded in agreement as the three of them stood up; prepared for a long, exhausting night. They helped Lucas back to his room; and Lucy began unloading all of what she'd brought from her apartment, and the box that Livvie had fetched from the attic, there'd be more than enough to keep Caleb away from the boy; or so they hoped.
