This story is based on the episode, The Law and Jesse Duke. In the episode, Rosco and Cletus go on strike for more money. Boss Hogg sees this as an opportunity to hire Alabama and her brothers to rob several stores in town. Of course, the Duke boys try to help and get framed for the crime. The boys get caught by Alabama and her brothers, and get tied up in the barn where they are hiding. Things go wrong in the Duke boy's escape from the barn. Meanwhile, Jesse Duke gets sworn in as temporary Sheriff and gets help from Sheriff Little, to track down the robbers.

This story starts out when Alabama went outside, to get some water for Bo and Luke. They got the ropes loose and jumped down from the hay loft.

"Bo head that way, I'll head the other way." Bo took off fast, as Luke made his way around the barn. Where he was quickly caught by Alabama. She threw the bucket of water in Luke's face.

"Still thirsty?"

"No, ma'am." Luke replied.

"Get going!" Alabama pushed Luke towards the door and yelled at Otis.

"Otis! Get in here!" Otis ran up to her, as she was tying Luke's hands together, in front of him.

"What's going on?"

"Blondie took off. Go find him!" Otis did what he was told. He made his way outside and saw Simon.

"Blondie took off. Alabama is madder than hell." Otis told him.

"You go look for him over there." Simon replied. When Otis was out of sight, Simon got into the smaller truck and drove off.

"Like hell if I'm getting caught." He made his way across the county line and ditched the truck. Unknown to the others, he hitched a ride to Hatchapee County. Where he now works as a clerk in a Five and Dime store.

When Otis walked in alone 15 minutes later, Alabama was not pleased with him.

"Where's Simon?"

"He went looking for Blondie."

"Get that idiot back here, now!" Otis left to find Simon but the only thing he found was trouble. The second he made his way into the trees, Bo hit him in the back of the head with a shovel.

"Nighty, night." Bo had found some rope and tied him up.

There was only Alabama with Luke now. Time ticked away and with no sign of Otis or Simon, she was getting madder by the second.

"Where did your brother go?" Luke shrugged, which only made her madder. She back handed Luke hard across the face. Then she cocked the hammer of the gun back.

"Move!" Luke walked outside, with her behind him. They glanced around the yard for any sign of Bo.

"Where did he go?" Luke remained quiet. "Answer me, Duke!"

"Right here." Bo replied. Alabama turned around and fired her gun. Luke was shocked, as an arrow flew next to him and hit Alabama. Luke knelt down and felt for a pulse. Not finding one, Luke stood up and glanced around for Bo. He heard sirens in the distance so Luke made his way around the mill. Sheriff Little stopped several feet in front of Luke.

"Hold it, boy!" Sheriff Little quickly got out of the patrol car and pointed his gun at Luke. Luke put his hands up.

"We had nothing to do with the robberies. We were set up."

"Where's your cousin?"

"Don't know."

"What do you know?"

"Otis is her brother and he's over there." Luke pointed behind the sheriff. Sheriff Little looked to where Luke was pointing and saw Otis running down the road.

"Hold it right there." When he didn't stop, Sheriff Little fired his gun in the air and Otis stopped running. Sheriff Little put the handcuffs onto one of Luke's wrists and then put the other onto the door handle of his patrol car. Confused at why Luke's hands were tied together, he took Luke's knife out and removed the rope. Then the sheriff walked over to Otis.

"You're coming with me." Sheriff Little grabbed Otis by the forearm and roughly escorted him to the car. He opened the back door.

"Get in." Otis got in and Sheriff Little uncuffed Luke from the car. He handcuffed his wrists in front and told him to get into the car. They arrived at the Chickasaw County jail and Sheriff Little put both of them into the cells. Before he could uncuff Luke, Luke told him. "I'm entitled to one phone call." Luke said as he stood by the cell door.

"I know what you're entitled to, Lukas." Sheriff Little opened the cell door.

"You try to escape, I will shoot you." Luke nodded as he walked to the desk. He dialed Cooter's Garage.

"Cooter, this is Luke. Hey listen, I got arrested. I'm in the Chickasaw County jail. Go to the old flour mill and look around, I think Bo is hurt."

"What? What happened?"

"I think he got shot by Alabama."

"I'm down and gone."

"Thanks buddy." Luke hung up the phone and made his way back to the cell. Sheriff Little was confused at the fact that Luke didn't try to make a break for it. Sheriff Little opened the cell door and Luke walked in. When the door was closed, he held his wrists out and the cuffs got removed. Sheriff Little looked at Otis and motioned him to walk up to the bars.

"Were the Duke boys involved in the robberies?" When Otis didn't reply, Sheriff Little grabbed him by the collar and pulled him tight against the bars. "You best answer me boy!"

"No, we was hired."

"By who?"

"Don't know. Alabama took care of that. She kept referring to him as a hog." Sheriff Little smiled.

"Figures." Sheriff Little opened the other cell that Luke was in and motioned for Luke to come out.

"You're free to go. Where do you want me to drop you off?"

"The General is still at the floor mill." Sheriff Little nodded and they both made their way out to the flour mill.

Cooter ran up to Cletus when he didn't see Rosco around. "Cletus! You need to help me."

"We're on strike."

"Cletus listen. Bo's hurt, he needs our help."

"Bo's hurt?"

"Yeah."

"Where's Luke?"

"Got arrested. Sitting in the Chickasaw County Jail." Cletus threw down his sign.

"Let's get going. Can we take your truck?"

"Yeah, come on." They ran to the truck and quickly left before Rosco could spot them.

Cletus and Cooter made their way out to the flour mill. As they drove around to the back of the mill, they saw Alabama laying on the ground, dead.

"What the hell happened?" Cooter asked out loud.

"We need to find Bo and fast." After several minutes of looking around they found Bo.

"There he is!" Cletus ran over to Bo with Cooter following. Cooter knelt down next to Bo.

"What happened here? Who shot you?" Cooter asked.

"Alabama. Where is she?"

"She's dead. Arrow in the heart."

"I didn't mean to, Cooter."

"I know."

"Where's...Ahh!" Bo screamed as Cooter held a handkerchief against his wound.

"Sorry, I got to stop the bleeding." Cooter sighed, he knew Bo would not like what he had to say. "We got to get you to the hospital." Cooter took ahold of Bo's forearm to help him up.

"No, just take me to Jackie."

"You need a hospital."

"I said no!" Bo jerked his arm out of Cooter's hold.

"You don't have a choice." Cooter looked at Cletus and said, "Help me with him." Cletus shook his head.

"Cooter, legally I can't force him to go."

"Since when does the law in these parts do anything legal?"

"Cooter, that's not fair." Cooter stood up at that.

"Fair? Fair, isn't Luke getting arrested! Fair, isn't Bo getting hurt..." "Cooter! Enough!" Cooter looked at Bo, who was now laying on his left side trying to sit up.

"Help me up." Cooter and Cletus got on either side of Bo and helped him to stand.

"You steady?" It took a minute for Bo to respond.

"Yeah." They both lead Bo to the truck. Cletus got Bo situated then got on the left side of him as Cooter drove. Several minutes later as they were making their way to town, Bo fell over onto Cletus.

"Cooter, we best get him to the hospital."

"Say no more." They quickly made their way to the Hazzard Hospital. Cooter was about to run inside when he saw Harley walking towards the entrance. "Harley! Bo needs help, he's in the truck." Harley followed Cooter and opened the door to the truck.

"Bo?" Harley turned Bo's head to look at him. "Bo?" Bo just stared at Harley, not saying a word. "I'm going to help you. Come on." Bo only nodded as Harley helped him out of the truck. They made their way inside to an exam room and Harley helped him onto a gurney. The doctor on call walked up to them.

"Not sure on what happened. Gun shot wound to the lower right side."

"Let's get an x-ray." Several minutes later, Bo was in surgery.

When Luke and Sheriff Little arrived back at the mill, they looked around. Bo was nowhere to be seen.

"The stolen goods are inside." Luke told Sheriff Little.

"Where's your cousin?"

"I don't know."

"The General is still here and we both know that Bo wouldn't leave him."

"You're right on that." As they made their way around the building they saw Alabama laying on the ground.

"What the hell?"

"She fired her gun at Bo, who was somewhere near the trees. The next thing I know, she's lying on the ground dead."

"Self defense then." Sheriff Little made his way over to the tree line. As he was looking around, he saw something laying on the ground. He picked up the bloody handkerchief and showed Luke.

"I'm thinking Bo's been shot." Sheriff Little remarked. "But where is he?" Sheriff Little ran to his patrol car and grabbed the mic. "Sheriff Little to Hazzard Hospital, come back."

"This is Hazzard County Hospital. What is your emergency? Come back."

"Was Bo Duke brought in for care?"

"Yes, sir. Arrived about 2 hours ago."

"Thank you." Sheriff Little put the cb handle down. "Get in the General and get going."

"Thank you." Luke put his hand out and the sheriff shook it.

"Don't mention it." Sheriff Little picked up the mic and radioed Jackie to pick up Alabama. Twenty minutes later, Luke was at the hospital. Luke ran inside and before he could ask, the nurse on-duty told him. "Luke, it's not a good time to see him." Luke looked at her confused. "He's having a hard time coming around."

"Which room?"

"Luke."

"Room number." She sighed and looked around.

"102." Luke made his way to the room. As he opened the door, he heard the doctor talking to Bo.

"Bo, you're in the hospital." Bo stared at the doctor for a moment, then nodded his head.

"I'm really cold." Bo whispered to Doc Petticord.

"I know. It's a side effect of the anesthesia." Doc Petticord reassured him as he went to the cabinet to grab a blanket. When Doc moved, Bo saw Luke by the door but didn't say anything.

"You alright?" Luke asked as he approached. Bo didn't answer but only stared at Luke. Luke looked at Doc. Doc shook his head, indicating not to say anything to Bo.

"Bo?" When Doc was sure that he had Bo's attention, he told him. "You can go back to sleep now." Bo closed his eyes as Doc covered him with the blanket and quickly fell back to sleep. Doc motioned Luke to follow him.

"He was having a hard time coming around. The bullet grazed his lung but he'll make a full recovery."

"I don't understand."

"Bo was briefly disoriented when he woke from the anesthesia."

"Is that normal?"

"It depends on the person." Luke just stood there looking towards the door. "You can sit with him, if you like. Just let him sleep. He'll feel better in a couple of hours." Luke nodded.

"Thanks." Luke replied as he made his way to Bo's room. He quietly made his way to a chair and sat down. Several hours passed when Luke woke up because he hit the floor. When Luke stood up, he saw that Bo was staring at him.

"A bed would have been more comfortable."

"I reckon so. How you feeling?"

"Been better." Luke nodded then sat down onto the chair.

"You don't have to babysit me, Luke. I ain't going nowhere." When Luke didn't say anything, Bo continued. "I can barely breathe, I'm not about to walk out of here, or walk home for that matter."

"Got nowhere to be." Luke replied.

"If you want to stay, that's fine with me, but you're going to be bored." Luke stayed for about another hour before he headed home.

Bo was released the next day on certain conditions. When they arrived at the farm, they saw Jesse on his way out.

"Hey Uncle Jesse. Where you headed?" Luke asked as he got out of the General.

"I have to drop off some hay to Widow Partridge. How you feeling?" He asked Bo.

"I'm fine." Bo made his way out of the General Lee very slowly. Jesse looked at Luke and replied. "He don't look fine."

"Doc released him on the condition he goes back to bed when he got home. Wants him to rest for a couple more days, to give his lungs time to heal."

"Good luck with that." Luke smiled at that. "See you later." Luke made his way into the house and saw that Bo listened to Doc and was now in bed.

"You need anything?" Luke asked.

"No, I'm fine. Sorry I can't help with the chores."

"Don't worry about it. Mr Johnson said he was going help out till you get better." Bo nodded as he got comfortable.

"Night." Luke left the bedroom and made his way outside to chop some wood. Several hours later, Luke went inside to make dinner. As dinner was almost done, Daisy came home.

"Hey Daisy. Bo's sleeping and diner is about done."

"I'm gonna take a shower and join you. Jesse still out?"

"Haven't seen him since he left for Miss Partridge's farm."

"He may have stayed for dinner." After dinner and the evening chores got done, they all headed for bed to rest up for the next day.
