A/N:
And here we are at the last chapter! LOL...I swear this was meant to be a short little story and it some how morphed into all of this...and I'm honestly sorta sad to see it end. But that being said I'm super excited to start on the next ideas I have that will continue along this little idea of mine!
Also I wanted to go ahead and say it...I figured Reed knows Poppy and Branch's heart beats, their rhythms, and the vibrations of their voices and their singing. I figured he would have learned all of that while he was still in egg, hence why he's constantly sensing their heart beats and their moods. As well as when they sing...
I'd also like to say a huge thank you to everyone whose read this story and given it so much love! I honestly wasn't expecting it to take off like it did and I'm so thankful to you all for making that possible!
Now on to the story! 8DD

Chapter 4: Rainbow
Branch heaved a sigh as he walked into the nursery now clad in his fluffy green bathrobe, Piper in his arms as the little trolling failed and giggled.
"Sugar, huh?" He grumbled as he shot Poppy a glare from where she paced back and forth in front of the twin's cribs as Reed fussed in her arms.
As he'd predicted the sugar had for sure hyped up the kids, even after a warm...and lengthy bath neither infant looked even remotely tired.
Not that Piper ever seemed tired to start with but she'd at least been the easier of the two to go down, since she seemed soothed just by cuddles and gentle words when it came to sleeping. Reed seemed to need some form of contact to get to sleep, rocking, walking, something to make him feel secure until he finally fell asleep.
Poppy only rolled her eyes at her husband before turning her attention back to her son who she gently bounced in her arms.
"It's alright Daddy just needs his bedtime more then you do." Poppy said in a baby voice as she gave her husband a pointed look at his snark.
Branch gave her a look that 'just said he told her so' as Piper let out another squeal and proceeded to yank at his robe to which he quickly moved her to his other arm and sighed.
Both of the new parents knew they were both tired, even if they'd managed to get the kids to sleep somewhat easily that wouldn't always be the case and due to all the emotions today they both knew what they needed at the moment was some peace and quiet.
But neither of the twins seemed to be getting anywhere close to being ready to put down.
Reed only fussing louder despite his mother's best attempts to soothe him just furthered the point.
"Come on, Puff, let's see if a story will help." Branch said as he walked over to the bookshelf and pulled out a book before crossing back other to the small love seat that sat next to the rocker.
Piper's eyes lighting up at her father's suggestion as she happily clapped her hands as Branch sat down and adjusted her so she was seated in his lap before he patted the seat next to him as he looked up at Poppy and smiled.
Poppy grinned and nodded before she and Reed made their way and sat next to them.
Reed was still a little fussy, but after noticing he was with both of his parents and his sister he seemed to calm himself a little.
And while he couldn't hear what the story was about the bright scrapbook pictures quickly captured his attention, as did Piper whenever she'd get excited.
Branch and Poppy took turns telling the story smiling as they sat with their children cuddled close.
All too soon however the story came to an end, both Poppy and Branch looked at each other and then down at their children.
Who were both still awake, and clearly getting tired and fussy when they realized the story was over. Even Piper was starting to whine along with Reed.
"Come on you two, I think we all need some rest." Branch stated quietly stifling a yawn as he laid the book on the table next to the love seat.
This just caused Piper to sniffle and scrunch up her face in protest, Reed following suit to mimic is sister.
Branch sighed as he started to get up ready to go to the rocker to try that route.
He stopped when he felt Poppy's hand grab his wrist, he turned to look at his wife who gave him a look that he knew well it was the look she had when she had an idea...an idea that would work.
He raised his eyebrows but knew to trust whatever she was thinking so he sat back on the love seat, following Poppy's lead as she pulled Reed close against her chest.
The little trolling continued to fuss but seemed to slow when he felt his mother's heartbeat, Piper doing the same at being cuddled by her father.
Poppy took a deep breath and closed her eyes.
"I know you, you're a special one
Some see crazy where I see love
You fall so low but shoot so high
Big dreamers shoot for open sky..."
She sang the words of the song crisp and clear as she opened her eyes to look down at Reed, the little trolling pausing in his fussing at the sudden vibrations in his mother's body as she sang. Piper also stopped fussing and looked up at her mother.
Branch and Poppy had intended to sing to their children from day one, but after finding out about Reed neither had really felt the mood to be right. In some way they were afraid that Piper would be the only one to understand and didn't want to leave Reed out.
But seeing this made both of the parents give each other looks of surprise and joy.
"So much life in those open eyes
So much depth, you look for the light
But when your wounds open, you will cry
You'll cry out now and you'll question why..."
She continued with the song both children enthralled with their own way of understanding the song their mother was singing.
"I can see a rainbow
In your tears as they fall on down
I can see your soul grow
Through the pain as they hit the ground
I can see a rainbow
In your tears as the sun comes out
As the sun comes out.."
Poppy finished the first part of the song, she smiled despite the tears that were welling up in her eyes as she looked down at Reed who smiled up at his mother.
Branch couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle also amazed at what he was witnessing he gave Poppy a soft smile as he took a deep breath and began to sing the next part of the song.
"I am here and I see your pain
Through the storms, through the clouds, the rain
I'm telling you you cannot escape
You can do it, just feel baby..."
He sang, watching both of his children's responses Piper snuggled up closer to him clearly enjoying the sound of his voice.
Reed's brow seemed to furrow for a second, and at first he didn't seem to understand what was going on. But then he snuggled up against Poppy's chest clearly listening to her heartbeat as Branch sang. He let out a content smile as he turned to watch his father's lips moving to the words of the song.
Branch smiled warmly feeling his own tears welling up in his eyes as he watched.
"I can see a rainbow
In your tears as they fall on down
I can see your soul grow
Through the pain as they hit the ground
I can see a rainbow
In your tears as the sun comes out
As the sun comes out..."
He sang as he glanced up at Poppy the two sharing a knowing smile as they turned back to look at their children before Poppy continued the song.
"Here comes the sun
Smiling down..."
She sang as both Piper and Reed began to yawn their little eyes clearly getting heavy as they both snuggled against their parents.
"Here comes the sun
Smiling down..."
Branch sang as he carefully reached behind him and pulled the knit Afghan off the back of the love seat to gently wrap the entire family up snuggly.
"Here comes the sun
Smiling down
Smiling down..."
Both Poppy and Branch sang together harmonizing as they smiled to each other basking in the warmth they felt with their children.
"I can see a rainbow
In your tears as they fall on down
I can see your soul grow
Through the pain as they hit the ground
I can see a rainbow
In your tears as the sun comes out
As the sun comes out...
I can see a rainbow
In your tears as they fall on down
I can see your soul grow
Through the pain as they hit the ground
I can see a rainbow
In your tears as the sun comes out
As the sun comes out..."
They sang in unison as they finished the song both looking down at their children who were both cuddled up against their parents chests sleeping peacefully.
Poppy looked up to give Branch a smile that was so full of love and happiness. He was fairly certain he had the same look plastered on his face.
After everything over the last two days just being here and feeling this was just the medicine he needed to help mend some of the feelings he was still processing.
He and Poppy shifted just enough so their heads were leaning against one another's neither ready to let this moment go.
It was the next day and it found the royal family seated in their living room, Poppy at the desk that sat against the wall near the window and Branch in an arm chair nearby.
On the couch sat Peppy the old former king laughing heartily as his grandchildren used him as a jungle gym.
Reed was currently seated on his head pushing his brows down with his little hands, as Piper giggled as she batted at his mustache.
Poppy smiled happily as she watched her children and her father interact.
"And so the village is taken care of for the moment, Viva and Clay were back to visit for the hatching and ceremony so they and Branch's brothers have been assisting with the day to day tasks. As have all of your friends." Peppy said as he chuckled and tickled Piper's tummy causing her to giggle more.
Both Poppy and Branch exchanged looks thankful to hear that things had been going well in their absence, of course they knew they'd soon need to return to their duties so that their friends and family wouldn't be covering for them.
"They also all send their regards, I was able to convince them and the rest of the village that you both needed bonding time with the littles." He said as he looked back up at Poppy who gave her dad a look that said she wasn't surprised he was able to keep secrets from anyone.
Peppy cringed a little and laughed nervously at the look his daughter gave him.
"Thank you, Dad...that means a lot to us. You said these were all the documents we'd need for the presentation ceremony?" Poppy asked deciding it was safer to change the subject then continue with her thoughts as she motioned over to the quite sizable stack of papers and books that her father had brought them.
"Yes, yes, dear...tradition is that the new royal heirs are presented to the village. Afterwards there's typically a celebration..." He said trailing off as he thought about it looking at the stack of documents.
"All of the finer details are outlined in those..." He said causing Poppy to nod her head as she put a hand to her chin in thought.
"Sounds like pretty standard stuff, beyond the finer details. I suppose it would be easier to try and schedule it so that all of the other leaders of Trollstopia could attend as well..." She said pondering that thought.
Branch who'd been half listening to their conversation suddenly started paying attention. It was a given that the other Genre's Royalty would be invited to the ceremony, they'd attended he and Poppy's wedding after all. But that thought suddenly made him very nervous knowing the scale of something like that and what it would entail.
Poppy saw Branch's eyes widen and the look of spiraling he was having out of the corner of her eye. She'd known he'd probably panic when he realized this ceremony wouldn't just be the village meeting their children so she quickly chose to ease his mind a little bit.
"But Branch and I can work out all of those details latter." She said giving Branch a small smile when she saw him relax just a hair at changing the subject.
Peppy nodded his head in understanding, he knew it would be quite the planning process for something that large. Plus he also understood the anxiety surrounding it all with what was going with Reed.
"Perhaps you should start smaller?" He suggested gently having also picked up on Branch's subtle anxiety flare.
"I know of four uncles, and an aunt who might string me up by my mustache if they don't get to meet these two soon." He said a shudder running down his spine at the thought.
It was true he'd managed to keep JD, Bruce, Clay, Floyd, and Viva at bay for the moment but the other members of the family were persistent.
He had a flash of just earlier in the day when he'd had to tell them he still hadn't heard from Poppy and Branch yet about visiting.
An image of Peppy cringing appears as five shadowy figures stand behind him, glaring white eyes, and bright hair in the colors of green, purple, green, white/magenta, and yellow tower over him.
Peppy shuddered again at the memory.
Branch looked at Poppy who seemed to be waiting for his thoughts before she agreed, she wanted him to be ready before saying yes or no.
"Tell them we'll be expecting them whenever their ready." Branch finally said causing Poppy to beam happily at him, despite his apprehension he knew finally having the family in on everything would make everything a million times easier.
Peppy grinned and nodded his head in approval, also happy that now the most he'd be dealing with were the other village trolls. And Poppy and Branch's friends were much easier to deal with then relatives who were hair bent on seeing their niece and nephew.
"Very good, I'll let them know as soon as I can." He said nodding his head happily as he went back to playing with the twins.
Poppy and Branch walked Peppy to the door saying their goodbyes as he gave each of the twins one last cuddle before handing them back to their parents.
Once he was out the door she turned to Branch before she walked back over to the desk with the documents, a look of thought coming across her face as Branch took Reed from her arms and placed both he and Piper in the playpen they'd sat up by the couch.
"I guess we need to start going through all of this and making some plans." She said knowing the sooner they got to work on it the sooner they would be done.
Branch heaved a sigh as he followed her the same look of concern flashing across his face as he did, something Poppy noticed as she looked at him.
"Hey, I know your nervous about all of this...but it'll be fine. We're gonna plan it down to the tee, and after we talk with our families I'm sure they'll be willing to help too." She said giving him an encouraging smile.
Branch knew she was right, he just couldn't help his nagging thoughts something he hated.
Seeing the look on his face Poppy gave him a coy smile.
"You'll get to make a list..." She said in a sing song voice.
Branch rolled his eyes knowing what she was doing, and while he wanted to fight it he also knew there was no winning with Poppy.
"I do like a good list..." He said as he pulled a roll of paper and a pencil out of his hair.
Poppy's face lit up and she giggled.
"See? I know you too well, Branch my man!" She said giggling as she sat down at the desk and started flipping through the books and documents.
Several hours, and one very long, and detailed list later Branch and Poppy were finished with their planning. They'd of course need to tweak it here and there but for the most part it looked like everything was pretty much set.
Poppy yawned and stretched as she went to get up from the desk, the twins had long since fallen asleep in their playpen and were just starting to stir from their nap.
Branch carefully tucked the list back into his hair before following Poppy over to take out Reed and Piper since they were both sure the twins would now want attention and possibly a snack.
They had each just picked up one of their children when a knock was heard at their door. They both exchanged confused looks before Poppy handed Branch Piper and went to the door.
"Who was it?" He asked as he juggled the two infants who were indeed more then ready for attention at that snack.
"Looks like a package." Poppy said her voice full of confusion as she stepped back into the living room a rather large box held in her hands.
The package was wrapped in white paper with a large dark blue ribbon around it. Pastel pink, yellow, and blue polka dots adorned it.
"Whose it from?" Branch questioned as Poppy placed it down on the coffee table before inspecting the package.
"Doesn't say...lemme see here..." She said as she tugged on the ribbon holding the package.
Everyone was surprised when the ribbon unraveled allowing the entire box to fall open.
Branch flinched a little, so used to Poppy's invitations in the past that his first thought was glitter.
To everyone's surprise the box fell open to reveal a hand crafted invitation, cute little cut outs of JD, Bruce, Clay, Floyd, and Viva popped up as a banner that said 'Welcome to the Family!" unfurled above them.
The tinkling sound of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" played from the music chip included in the invitation as a large pastel balloon floated up above everything.
"Awe! Look how cute that is! I taught Viva how to make these sorts of invitations!" Poppy gushed as her eyes twinkled at her sister's handy work.
The twins both awe struck by the display before them.
"Huh, coming from Viva and knowing you taught her...I'm surprised there's no gli..." Branch started to say but he was quickly cut off as the balloon exploded showering the entire room in multicolored pastel glitter and confetti.
Branch scowled before he let out a cough a puff of glitter and confetti coming out of his mouth.
"And there it is..." He muttered as both Reed and Piper let out squeals and giggles as the glitter and confetti floated around them and stuck to their faces and hair.
Poppy had to bite her lip to keep from laughing at her husband's plight, though she couldn't totally hide the snicker snort that managed to escape her.
"Looks like their wanting us to come to the bunker tomorrow afternoon." Poppy said deciding it best to change the subject before Branch had time to wish further curses upon her sister.
He nodded his head at her words as she took Piper from his arms to start the task of trying to get at least some of the glitter and confetti out of her hair and fur.
Branch felt the familiar pang of nerves hit him as he looked down at Reed who looked up at his father from where he was completely covered in confetti and glitter and giggled.
And for the first time Branch felt his nerves lesson slightly as he chuckled at his son, reminding himself that his family would love him just as much as he and Poppy already did.
