Chapter 2: Owls Well That Ends Well
A/N Due to the unprecedented response to this fanfiction, I will be creating one additional chapter of this before I do my next chapter of A Light Bearer's Rise. I know some of you will be disappointed with this, and I kindly ask that you have a bit of patience. I WILL be working on that story; however, that world is extremely well documented and has a large amount of lore compared to this one. As my wife is a fan of The Lord of the Rings, I am endeavoring to keep that one as accurate to the lore of that world as possible, including in how the characters act and react. Now, with that out of the way, please enjoy.

Sam looked around the rather lavish bathroom he had been shown upon entering the manor before turning back to stare into the mirror at the complete stranger standing there in front of him. He had become a strange owl creature, much like Octavia was, except he was purple all over, besides the tips of his feathers being white and his eyes being a dark green color. He had spent a good ten minutes just looking at himself in the mirror when he got into the bathroom before he remembered why he was there, and even then he kept having to take glances at himself in the mirror to reassure himself that he really looked like that.
From his surroundings, he was swiftly able to deduce that either everyone in hell was rich (which his tour through the city on his way to the manor told him was false). Or he just bumped into someone super important. "Better not keep Octavia waiting any longer." Sam thought as he dried his feathers and straightened them as best he could.
He had only taken a few steps out of the bathroom when an imp (not that he knew it was that) in a butler outfit stepped up to him. "If the young sir will follow me, I will guide him to the young miss and her parents, who are waiting in the dining hall." The imp said it primly. He then turned away from Sam and started to walk away, clearly expecting him to follow. Sam started to follow after a moment of internally running over any form of etiquette for dealing with what was most likely the equivalent of a noble.
It was a testament to the sheer size of the mansion that it takes a further fifteen minutes to get from the bathroom that he was in to the dining hall. As Sam entered the room, he looked around at the room's occupants and saw two other owls other than Octavia. One was a tall, slender male owl with a french grey plumage and a crowned hat. The other was a pure white female owl with a rather... massive dress on. Based solely on the feeling in the room, the female owl was clearly the most influential, so he paid the majority of his attention to her.
"Samuel, these are my parents, Lady Stella Goetia and Lord Stolas Goetia." Octavia said it with clear reluctance and discomfort in her voice.
"It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Lady Goetia, Lord Goetia." Samuel meanwhile pulls out every bit of etiquette he remembers from playing The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt out of his ass as he bends forward with his left leg back, right knee bent forward, right arm crossed up over chest towards his left arm, and his left arm held back and out to the side.
Considering this was totally different from how he acted towards Octavia earlier, a confused look crossed over her face at the act. Meanwhile, Stella gave a sniff and a light curtsy back, though the rather hard edge in her eye softened a bit at his courtesy of bowing to her first, then Stolas. Stolas, on the other wing, seemed rather unaffected either way and was eyeing him and then Octavia in turn. Never the less, Stolas turned back to face him fully.
"We welcome you to our home, young man. Octavia just finished telling us how she met you while you were lost in the city with blood on your arm. I trust you are uninjured." Stolas questioned him cautiously, eyeing him for any injuries.
"I wasn't injured. An imp attacked me, and I rather underestimated my strength when I went to knock him away." Sam answered as his feathers ruffled a bit at remembering the... incident. "Thankfully, nothing else untoward happened while I was lost." Sam continued with a smile. "I never did say thank you for that, Octavia. Really, thank you for helping me out. I probably would still be lost in the city without your help." He said this as he turned to face Octavia, his smile still on his beak.
In turn, Octavia blushed a bit, and her feathers ruffled up. "It was nothing, Sam. Besides, I couldn't just leave you there." Octavia replied to Sam. Neither of them ever noticed her parents taking note of the exchange. Stolas noting the blush and how she was acting, while Stella noting the use of a nickname as well as the blush.
"Come, you must join us for dinner. Oh, and what is your last name? We really should contact your parents." Stella asked with razor-sharp focus.
"Oh, my full name is Samuel Marbas, but you won't be able to reach my parents; the rest of the family killed them as my father married a Goetia of fairly low status. They then died trying to kill me due to my nature as a hybrid." Sam replied, bullshitting as much as possible with the only demon he knew the name of. Thank everything for having read WAY too much fanfiction.
Stella's eyes widened a bit, as not only did this mean he was the sole heir to the Marbas title, but he was actually almost equal in status to Stolas and her. Her eyes grew cold and calculating for a moment as she thought about how to twist this to her advantage. Meanwhile, the servants started bringing in food for the four of them, and Sam had a moment of panic as he tried to figure out what utensil to use. He ended up relying on his fanfiction knowledge yet again as he started from the outside and moved to the inside.
Stella soon had a smirk on her face, and Stolas had a sinking feeling at the sight of it. It seemed his wife was scheming once again, and it might end in another argument. Given her frequent glances between the still slightly blushing Octavia and Samuel, he had a feeling he was really not going to like her scheme this time.
{Congratulations, gamer, you survived Stella the Harpy's expectations! Due to this and how much entertainment your little gambit will provide the admins in the future, they have decided to reward you! Look at you, player, earning all these rewards!}
[Gained one power and one title...
Gained:
Marbas Legacy: You are an heir of Marbas and thus have access to the thirty-six legions of Marbas as well as Marbas bloodline magics. (Be warned that while this gives you access to the magics, it does no more than unlock them and nothing more. You must train in these powers to grow and use them better.)
Title Gained: Marbas Heir
This title comes with a mansion in one of the layers of hell as well as memories of its location and the general layout of the layer it resides in.]
(Link for powers given by the magic at the bottom.)
Sam winced as a sharp headache hit him as the memories of the mansion's location came to him. Thankfully, the wince went unnoticed by Stella and Stolas, as focused as they are. Octavia, however, noticed and was a little concerned. Upon noticing her look, Samuel was touched but waved her off subtly.

Soon, the meal was over. Sam somehow didn't totally fail in the etiquette department. Stella still had a slight smirk on her face as she spoke up. "How about you stay the night at the mansion, Samuel? It is rather late now, and I would hate to have to call your staff here this late to get you."
Sam, not really knowing Stella at all, saw nothing wrong with this. "Only if it is okay with you, Lady Goetia. I would hate to intrude." Meanwhile, both Stolas and Octavia were giving Stella suspicious looks. Well, suspicious and confused in the case of Octavia, that is.
"We would be happy to have you for the night. There is an open room across from Octavia's. I will have a servant make it ready for you. Octavia, you don't mind leading Samuel there, do you?" Stella practically cooed as Stolas's sinking feeling got even worse.
"O-okay? Sure, Mother, I can show him to his room." Octavia said as she was growing even more confused at how her mother was acting. She led Sam away slowly while shooting her mother confused looks. Soon, the two had left the room.
As soon as they had, Stolas turned to his wife and hissed. "What are you doing, Stella?!" as his eyes flashed dangerously.
"Me? I am doing nothing, Stolas." She replied with nonchalant innocence.
"I know you are plotting something, Stella; now OUT with it!" Stolas growled in annoyance at the harpy he married.
Stella sighed. "I am not plotting anything, Stolas. However, if our daughter were to marry a certain heir, I wouldn't be disagreeable. In fact, I might just push for such a thing." She said this while feigning disinterest.
"We had an AGREEMENT Stella! We agreed we would let our daughter marry for LOVE not because we ordered her to marry someone! We BOTH agreed to that!" Stolas screeched at her in rage.
"And I am not ordering her to marry him, am I? I am following my promise. However, we BOTH saw how she was looking at him! So what if I am tilting the odds in his favor? I never said anything about not influencing her decisions subtly." Stella defended herself with narrowed eyes.
"You may not have said anything about it but I believed you understood it was implied! I do not wish you interfering with our daughter's love life! I want you to leave them alone!" Stolas demanded in a towering rage.
"Fine. But I want you to agree to the same thing. I don't want you to influence her by keeping her from seeing him. He is to be allowed over whenever he wants to come." Stella demanded in return as she poked Stolas in the chest, utterly unaffected by his anger.
"FINE! If that is what it takes to get you to agree to leave them alone, so be it!" Stolas shouted as he glared at her. Stella, meanwhile, merely smirked, as this was exactly what she was aiming for. After the small push she gave the two by putting them in rooms right across from each other, everything should work out without a hitch.
(Transition here)
On the way to their rooms, Octavia turned to face Sam and looked at him in confusion. "What was all that back there? That fancy shit? You didn't act like that at all in front of me. And when were you going to tell me you were the Marbas Heir?!" She asked rather flustered since she acted like she normally would with any of the I.M.P.s or her dad.
"That was me trying my hardest not to make an idiot of myself in front of your parents. As for the whole Marbas Heir thing, it's not something I really like to advertise. It doesn't change anything. I am still just Sam, and you are still just Octavia, okay?" Sam implored, wincing internally at the number of lies he has had to tell lately. Especially the ones he has had to tell Octavia. After all, she was nice to him despite not really knowing him.
Octavia blushed, and her feathers ruffled a bit at what he said. "Fine... But you have to make up for letting me make a fool out of myself in front of you! You're gonna take me to the mall for lunch tomorrow mister!" She demanded, poking a finger into his chest with a slight blush as she got up in his face. A blush also appeared on his own face as he nodded in silent agreement.
Octavia turned and started walking away from him. Only to pause and look at him over her shoulder. "Well? Are you coming or what? Dummy." She said, muttering the last part. This caused him to blush again, then shake himself out of his shock, and follow her once more. Though he found himself having trouble not taking glances at her backside as they walk.
Soon they arrived at her room, and Octavia turned to face him. "Alright, this is my room. Yours is the one right across from it. Tomorrow at lunchtime! You better not forget!" She then turned, ran into her room, and shut her door.
Sam spent several minutes standing there, staring at her door, before he entered the (extremely posh) room and walked over to the bed. Creepily enough, there was a set of silk night clothes laying on the bed in his size. Not one to complain, Sam slipped the clothes on after spending a good thirty minutes figuring out how he was supposed to handle his nightly ablutions. It was WEIRD dealing with his... parts being internal until needed for copulation. The feathers were just as difficult for him to figure out how to handle, if less embarrassing. It took him a further fifteen minutes to figure out how to handle his tail feathers. Thankfully, it seems the clothing was designed with this in mind. After that, it only took ten minutes for him to fall asleep on the supremely comfortable mattress.

The next morning, Sam awoke feeling refreshed and ready to take on anything... until he remembered where he was and what was going to happen today. Would it count as a date? Or was it just him reading too much into things? Well, it wouldn't help him to overthink things.
As he got up to get ready for the day, he noticed another outfit. This one was again disturbingly well fitted to his measurements and was rather fancier than what he would normally wear. It honestly looked like something a prince or something would wear. He put them on none the less, as his only other option was to wear the clothes he arrived in, and those seemed to be missing. He then went to the bathroom to fix his feathers, as they had gotten all out of place at night.
He exited his room and knocked on Octavia's door, only for her to respond immediately. "J-Just a moment! Come on, where are my other clothes? Did the servants take them all or something? I can't only have THIS to wear, can I?" The rest of what she said was muffled by the door as she seemingly panicked about something.
"Are you okay, Octavia?" Sam was kind of concerned and was rather startled when Octavia shouted back at him through the door.
"I'm FINE! I just can't find any of my normal fucking clothes! The only thing I can find is this stupid fucking dress!" She yelled, causing Sam to get a bit... worried.
"I mean, maybe the servants did it? I found an outfit that wasn't exactly... my style laying on my bed when I woke up. Besides, it can't be too bad. I can't exactly imagine you looking bad in... anything really." Sam said hoping the compliment would sooth her worries.
Octavia stayed silent for a moment before he heard the rustling of fabric. After about five whole minutes, he heard her finally speak. "Don't... Don't laugh, okay?" she said softly through the door.
"Okay? I would never laugh." Sam said, confused, before Octavia opened the door, revealing that she was wearing a rather gothic sundress with a rather adorable blush on her face. "... Well? How do I look? Stupid right?"
Sam was gobsmacked for a moment before he shook his head. "You look absolutely smashing. At least you don't look like a Christmas nut cracker." Sam said as he gestured to his overly princely outfit. The rather put-upon look on his face caused Octavia to stifle a laugh before she busted out in peals of laughter that, despite his embarrassment, made Sam smile and let out a few chuckles of his own.
"Shall we milady~?" Sam said in a mockingly fancy tone as he held an arm out to her, causing her to start giggling all over again.
"Yes indeed we shall my good sir." She replied in a sarcastic fancy as she got over her giggles and took his arm in hers. They proceeded to walk together to breakfast. Upon arriving, they found Octavia's parents nowhere to be found, and when asked about it, one of the servants informed them that Stella was off visiting one of the other noble houses while Stolas was doing paperwork in his study.
So together, they ate breakfast and talked about their hobbies. They being Octavia's love of music and Sam's love of videogames. This helped when they started planning where they would go in the mall and what they would do. They decided to go to the music store in the mall first, a place called Victoria's Vibes. Then go to lunch in the food court inside the mall. Followed by hitting the arcade. Sam, realizing that he didn't have any money on him, asked Octavia if he could borrow a driver or something to get him to his mansion so he could grab some cash. Octavia agreed, as this gave her a chance to convince her father to let her go out to the mall with Sam without his presence, making him harder to convince.
Once Sam left, Octavia got up, headed to Stolas's study, and knocked on the door. "Come in," said Stolas. Octavia opened the door to see her father dealing with the annoyingly massive amount of paperwork it took to run their section of hell.
"Hey dad... could I borrow some souls? I wanna go to the mall with Sam." Octavia asked as she readied for what would no doubt be a rather arduous battle to convince her dad to let her go to the mall with a boy.
"Sure Owlett, just make sure to take a bodyguard with you and return before ten." Stolas said with a minor twitch of one of his eyes.
"But Dad! I won't even be gone long, and I'll even be bringing a bodyguard, so it isn't like we would be doi-Wait, did you just say yes?!" Octavia started to argue, only to realize Stolas had accepted her request.
"Yes I did my Owlett. Your mother and I came to an agreement. She won't try to influence you to date the boy, and in exchange, I won't stop you from seeing him." Stolas said with a sigh as he rubbed at the space between his eyes.
"Wait... would you do that if you and mom didn't have that agreement?" Octavia asked with a bit of trepidation.
"Yes, I would. No boy on the face of this pit will ever be good enough for my Owlett in my eyes. However, it isn't my place to decide who you can and can't have a relationship with... Just promise me you will be careful, okay? I don't want my little girl getting hurt." Stolas said as he looked at Octavia with concern in his eyes. This prompted Octavia to rush him and capture him in a rare hug, which caught him by surprise.
"I promise... Thank you Daddy." Octavia said in a rare show of affection. She then took the money he had pulled out for her to use from his hand and gave him a peck on the cheek before rushing out of the room. Stolas sat there for a moment longer, smiling wistfully, basking in the memories of simpler times and a much smaller Octavia.
(Transition here)
Sam got to his new mansion in short order. Thankfully, nothing disastrous happened on the way there (i.e., him having to kill anyone else). and he entered the mansion to find it full of servants. His servants seem to consist mainly of Hellhounds, with a few Baphomets sprinkled throughout. Thankfully, none of them so much as question him, as one of the Baphomets led him to his study. There, he found a wallet containing several dollars? and a form of ID. Along with those items, there seemed to be a large amount of paperwork on his desk waiting for him. He considered changing out into some clothes that more fit his style, but in the end decided not to. He didn't think Octavia would be able to find her clothing before he returned, and he would rather not have her suffering in the stuffy clothing alone. The baphomet then led him back outside to the car and driver that were still waiting. He reentered the car and asked them to take him back to the Goetia mansion, as he was finished with his business here. He couldn't wait to see what a mall in hell was like.

Servant Mischief
The servants of the Goetia family had been with them for hundreds of years now. Alfred, in particular, had practically been with Stolas his whole life. Due to this, when Octavia was born, he was the servant that Stolas trusted to take care of his little Owlett while he was away. Alfred had watched the adorable little girl grow up from a tiny chick into the amazing young lady she was today. Then today, one of the staff members reported to him that Octavia seemingly had a crush. On a young man her own age whom she asked out to the mall no less. Alfred knew that his young miss would just wear her normal outfit if given the chance, so he took matters into his own claws. He had the servants sneak in while she was asleep and had them take every scrap of clothing she had and hide them. In their place, he left a gothic-styled sundress on her bed, along with a rather enticing pair of lacy crimson underwear. Though the old imp doubted the young gentleman would ever see them on their outing, he WAS a gentleman after all, from what the other servants told him. He hoped they would give the young miss some confidence she sorely needed. He wanted to see Stolas's grandchildren before he got too old to help out in the manor damn it!
