Dinner time on the Thousand Sunny was always a hectic affair, especially so after a well-fought battle. When that battle just happened to be against a pirate who once stood alongside the King himself, then this meal is all the more important.

"Nami-san, Robin-chwan, your dinner is served~"

"Thank you Sanji!" Nami grinned.

"Ah, thank you kindly." the archaeologist smiled at the cook, causing him to swoon even further.

"SANJIII! I WANT FOOD TOO! MEAT! MEAT!" Luffy bounced on his seat.

"YEAH! FOOD!" Usopp cheered.

"I WANT SOME COLA WITH MINE!" Franky declared.

"Will you assholes pipe down?! We have guests here! Show some restraint will ya?" the cook snapped as he brought out the dishes.

"Language!" Gian barked, pointing at the little girl sitting next to him.

"Oh, that's real rich coming from you!" Sanji shot back. Erika just giggled sheepishly alongside her father as the two of them took in the scene. Now freed from the service to the Golden Lion at last, they were heading to a small town to start a new life, one that just so happened to be on the way to Fishman Island. Beside the father and daughter duo, Billy also quacked in anticipation as the aromatic smell of cooked food wafted through the air. The doctor and his child have decided to take the mutated duck with them, and the three of them have already begun to make many plans now that they're free to go anywhere they pleased.

Needless to say, the Straw Hats were more than happy to have the three of them as travel companions for a while.

"You'll get used to this after a while." Nami chuckled, "We can get pretty high energy."

"It's no trouble at all." Dr. Shiragami smiled, "After seeing what you've done for us, it seems excitement is commonplace around here."

Dinner began, and while Luffy as usual was stuffing his face with as much food as he can realistically obtain, the others also realized how hungry they'd been after not having much of a proper meal during their week of stranding. Erika, in particular, was tucking into a plate of tomato salad with some sweet potatoes on the side; Sanji had been informed of the girl's dietary restrictions, and he'd made a few vegetarian dishes specifically for her.

"This is delicious, Mr. Sanji, it's the best food I've ever had, only my mom's was better…" the little girl mumbled in satisfaction.

"Well, don't let me interrupt you then! There's plenty more if you're still hungry." The cook smiled kindly.

"This is all far too much kindness for someone like us to receive." Dr. Shiragami stated "I-I truly don't know how to thank you all, for a mere scientist who had caused you more problems than you should've-"

"Hey, enough of that." Nami chided "We're both prisoners, you've been fighting longer than I have."

"You're just as much of a victim as the rest of us, now that that's done with, it's time to look forward." Gian assured him "With Shiki gone, it really is time to do whatever you see fit."

"Yes, I suppose you're right." Dr. Shiragami nodded "By the way, 'Beast Warrior', about my request…"

Gian set down his fork as he gazed at the little girl, now reaching over for some strawberry pudding that Sanji set out for everyone as dessert while listening to Usopp regaling the group with a made up story of how he took down a dozen sea beasts. Though their oppressor is now gone, her struggles aren't quite over yet. With the power of an ancient beast bonded to her that has a tendency to rear its ugly head at the most inopportune times, she still had something else to worry about.

It was something that he sympathized with greatly, he who once had to endure the same worry. He was fortunate enough to encounter someone who helped him hone such a destructive power, but Erika never had anyone like that.

It fell to him to make sure she can have the same life too, but can an untrained amateur who hardly knows the extent of his own power really have something to offer?

And this isn't even getting into how his own confidence in his abilities have been faltering recently.

"I have to try… Erika's as afraid of this as I was back then, the least I can do is show her that it isn't something to be feared. Back then, when our Aura was connected, I saw the same fears in her. If there's a chance for her and her father to live a peaceful life now, I will see to it."

A decision couldn't seem clearer.

"Have her meet me in my study after dinner." Gian declared "We have a couple of days, I'll see what i can do."

Later that night:

As the sun began to set, and everyone began to turn in for the night, Erika made her way towards Gian's Study, curiosity and anxiousness in her heart. Her father mentioned that her fellow Kaiju-Zoan user wished to speak to her regarding her power, a conversation she'd been expecting to have sooner than later. Coincidentally, she was hoping to talk with Gian about it too, given the revelation from Shiki that their two monsters were in a similar class to one another.

Giving the large wooden door a ginger rap with her knuckles, she found that the door creaked open. Taking a step back as dim smoke began to leak out, she could see that the room was dimly lit with candlelight.

"U-umm…"

"Enter…" the commanding voice gave the little girl a start. Erika meekly stepped inside, a small gasp escaped her lungs as she saw the hulking form sitting on the bed. Gian had already Partially Transformed, one leg hoisted onto his sleeping area while his reptilian features are obscured in the flickering embers. Blue tinted energy shone at the back of his throat, emitting a steady stream of smoke.

"Erika… I believe you know why I called you here."

The girl clenched her little fists together; she had an inkling of an idea of what this meeting is supposed to be for, considering what happened had affected both of them.

"I..I have the slightest idea of why…"

"Then I must inform you, this will not be as simple as you expect it to be." Gian growled "You will be staying with us for a few days, not enough time to learn everything, but just enough to get the basics down. Even knowing this, to temper the beast that dwells in your very spirit is a task unlike that which you've done before. But rest be assured, I will be here to guide you."

"Why…?" Erika whispered.

"Because whether you'd be able to live alongside this condition will be determined by how well you take to this training. You've merely got a taste of this power, and it has already threatened to overwhelm you. Believe me, I've been there too and should-"

"No, I mean why do you have the lights off for this?" Erika grumbled "I can hardly see a thing…"

"...Because I thought the ominous atmosphere would be cool…?" Gian awkwardly explained "The idea sounded much better in my head, you know what you're right this is stupid." Hastily he transformed back, blowing out the candles and turning on the lights again.

"I was serious about the other things though, this power is magnificent but it's a double edge sword. I believe you're rather familiar with what it can result in by now."

Erika lowered her gaze at that; such events were something she's unfortunately experienced many times by now. Many people had perished because she wasn't able to control the vast well of power within her, something that weighed heavily on her mind.

"Don't fret, it's something that I'm familiar with too, for better or for worse." Gian assured her "I used to be in the same position as you, unable to rein in such destructive potential. It took someone with the same powers as I do to figure something out, but with time and assistance, it is possible."

"You seem so much more comfortable with it, can you really do that for me?"

"You're here for around 5 days, what I have in store will allow you to get a general idea of what needs to be done to focus the Kaiju's power. Everything else after is up to you, though we all need to start somewhere, don't we?"

Erika thought for a moment, before giving a determined nod "Yes, you're right. I-I don't want to be afraid of this power anymore! I don't want to see my papa hurt because of me again!"

Gian nodded "Then with that, we shall begin. Come, sit on the floor." Erika watched as the pirate got down into a crossed legged position; she got down and did the same.

"What's this, Mr. Gian?"

Gian smirked "To placate a beast, you must first placate yourself. By now, you're probably aware that the few times you've transformed may have been influenced by a flux in your emotional state. My former mentor taught me this technique, it's a timeless method that helps to soothe your inner turmoil even to this day."

"And what's that?"

"Meditation."

Erika blinked. Surely something couldn't be that simple.

"Now I know what you're thinking, you came all this way to talk only to find yourself in a makeshift yoga class. But as I mentioned before, in order for the Kaiju's power to flow naturally, you must first enter a state of awareness. Feel the world around you, cut yourself off from everything but your thoughts. Once you're focused, we can proceed to work with how to better hone your powers."

Gian closed his eyes and took a deep breath "Let's be calm for, say 2 minutes, that should be a good start." And with that, he remained seated in the lotus position. His senses dampened and he felt himself relax, until all that's left is the flickering of the gas lights in his room and the sound of rolling waves. This exercise was one of the first things that Triton had taught him, and even long after they parted, he still partook in it from time to time. It helped calm him down and focus when it was hard to do so, rather therapeutic if anything else.

Soon the 2 minutes were up and Gian opened his eyes to find Erika still in her seated position. A small smile graced his lips.

"Not bad kid, I actually didn't expect you to be able to hold it for that long. It looks easy but being in a state of calm is more difficult than-Erika?"

The girl didn't respond, her head faltering before drooping down. Gian was quick to rush to her side when he heard the soft noises:

*Snore… *Snore…

"Well, I guess I can't be too surprised. After everything that happened she deserves a good night's sleep. Guess we'll continue this tomorrow morning." Gian thought sheepishly and shook his head. Gently picking up the teenage girl he tucked her into the study's bed and left to go room with the boys that night.

Meanwhile:

As the Straw Hats carried on their voyage, news of Shiki's death had already begun to spread like a coursing flood. And at ground zero of what had occurred, the World Government was already trying to process the aftermath.

A Dozen Marine ships anchored around the now fallen remnants of Mereville. Without his powers, Shiki's former floating stronghold has now crashed into the sea, forming a new chain of islands in the middle of the Grand Line. Shiki's former experiments were now its denizens, the former base of operations now in the process of becoming a nature preserve for the wayward mutants.

For 3 predators in particular, Gezora, Ganimes and Kameobas have all set up large swaths of hunting territory in the East South and Center of the new landmass. The Marines were careful to avoid that area after the mutant cuttlefish nearly sank one of their ships.

"No signs of Shiki, it's all but confirmed. He's gone." and heading this operation was none other than the crew of the Gotengo itself. As Shiki's master plan grew closer to completion, the World Government had to act soon. The timing of it all was just too unfortunate, with one former legend about to mount an invasion of the world, all while they're dealing with the wrath of one of the Yonko amassing his own forces in the face of news regarding the capture of his son. As such, they were unable to garner enough resistance in two fronts, and as the bulk of the navy forces began to barricade Marineford, Gideon and a small strike team was sent to dismantle Shiki's operation as quickly and with as little noise as possible.

Upon showing up however, they soon found out that there was no need.

"So it seems the rumors are true. And if that's the case, along with reports that the Straw Hat Pirates were sighted there, then we can put two and two together." Sengoku's voice crackled over the snail "To think the crew of Garp's grandson has grown to even this level…"

"Let me guess, you're gonna attribute this to me?" Gideon scoffed "Somehow I'm not surprised."

"I know your feelings about this, but I have no choice! Taking down 2 of the Shichibukai is one thing, Shiki was on a whole other level! If news of this got out-"

"Yeah Yeah, wouldn't be the first time. Do what you have to, just leave me out of politics." Gideon sighed "Though it may be even more complicated than that. We've arrested a few of Shiki's collaborators, they're in rough shape but they've all had one thing to say: that they were attacked by a gigantic entity that seemingly appeared from out of nowhere."

"Your previous report mentioned Shiki has an army of genetically mutated monsters, this could just be that."

"Yeah, that's what I'd thought too, until you hear what these pirates have to say. All of them reported that something bursted through the ground and devoured everything in sight. That, and what we came across at Shiki's now ruined palace would suggest something much bigger."

"WE'RE TELLING THE TRUTH FLEET ADMIRAL SENGOKU, WE SAW IT WITH OUR OWN EYES!"

"JUST TAKE US TO IMPEL DOWN, I DON'T WANT TO STAY ANOTHER SECOND OUT HERE WHERE THAT MONSTER COULD GET US!"

"Keep quiet!" beside the prisoners, Ozaki barked.

The line was silent for a while, and Gideon can hear the Fleet Admiral audibly sigh at the other end.

"Are you suggesting, Shiki had a Kaiju-Zoan user amongst his crew?"

"I didn't use that word, but I wouldn't rule it out either." Gideon shrugged "Taking into account of capital he had before his untimely demise as well as the fact that he's been under the radar for 2 decades, who knows how he found it. Of course, my biggest supporting argument would be the fact that these pirates also came into conflict with the Straw Hats, and if that's the case then-"

"-yes, I know, 'Beast Warrior' Gian would be among them. You also told me a few of the survivors saw him Transform and how he and 'Straw Hat' took the fight to Shiki themselves." Sengoku started from the other end "I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. Shiki was crafty as he was resourceful. If he set his operations so high, he'd do anything to get there."

"In any case, whatever was here clearly isn't anymore. They would have perished alongside Shiki or perhaps were also defeated by the Straw Hats. Then again, we both know better than that. Would you prefer I look into it?"

"That won't be necessary, there's too much at the moment that requires our attention. Carry out the remainder of your investigation Gideon, I'll need you back at Marineford soon." was Sengoku's reply.

"As you wish." Gideon affirmed as he hung up. Moments later, commodore Horace walked into the room with something in his possession.

"You're gonna wanna take a look at this."

Gideon frowned slightly as he saw the logbook in his subordinates hands. Flipping open the pages he processed the information. 2 decades of research and plans filled the pages, each one greater than the next. Gideon knew that, had what happened not occurred, even the Marines would've been hard pressed to stop him.

Then he stopped and his eyes widened slightly.

"How does he-?"

"It seems Shiki knows more than he lets on." Horace remarked "And it seems like that hydra inside you was part of something big too."

"That I always knew, what I didn't expect was what he had planned for it."

"Should we inform Sengoku?"

Gideon mused for a while, before closing the book.

"No, our dear Fleet Admiral has his hands tied at the moment." he smirked "Besides, I think he's much rather I personally bring it to him later."

Far away in Marineford, Sengoku himself was deep in thought. Over 20 years ago, Shiki had personally assailed the island on the eve of Gold Roger's execution. It took both him and Garp to repel and imprison him, and even then it took him mere weeks to render Impel Down's reputation of inescapable null and void. To see him meet his end like this, it's a sign of things to come.

"That does it then, that old Lion really is gone." Sengoku looked up to see Garp walk into his office "His revenge on the world has failed."

"Your Grandson really did it this time." the Fleet Admiral replied "He's punching way too far above his weight class now. You know I have to cover up this one even more in particular right? The fact that we had to be saved by pirates of all things can't be brought to light, especially not someone of Shiki's caliber."

"Tch, that kid's uncontrollable." Garp chuckled "He ain't the only one either. With how many new pirates pop up every day, this new generation is getting more and more wild."

"It's a cause for concern, those who once possessed strength in the past are now giving way to the future, but in a way it's the same." The Fleet Admiral stood up "Shiki's death will be known to the world soon. Those above me are making me designate Gideon as his killer, but we both know that's not the case. Once we're done with the imminent crisis, something will need to be done about that brat of yours. You won't be able to ignore him for much longer either."

Garp scoffed at that "And that will require Luffy to actually think of submitting, and if me trying to do so for over 10 years didn't work I doubt anything else would." the elderly vice-admiral's expression became more forlorn; the events that will occur in a few days from now is something that needs to be taken precedent.

"Still, had they both chosen another path, perhaps we wouldn't be where we are today now, would we?"

And Sengoku did not say much to that; Garp's sentiments may be there, but they were still Marines, and they had a job to do. And sometimes, that very job digs away at their own morality, whether they like it or not.

Day 1:

"I want you to envision your body as a canal, all energies within it flowing from one point to another."

The second day on the ship was a clear one, the sun shining down brilliantly on the deck of the Thousand Sunny. Perfect for some training out in the open.

Gian had his hands held close together, his body focused as Erika watched with rapt attention. Soon, a faint blue glow began to wisp off of him like pale flames. Erika gasped in wonder as her fellow Kaiju-Zoan user opened his eyes.

"You may not believe it, but the beast within you was once alive. Through you and the fruit you ate, the remnants of their life energy still flow like vast rivers. This life energy mixes with your own, us Kaiju-Zoan users have a special term for it: Aura. It is up to you on how you'd like to wield such power."

Erika watched as the blue cloak began to coalesce towards Gian's right palm, gathering until it formed a bright ball of blue fire. Gian waved it around, moving it around as if it were a tennis ball, before extinguishing it with a flick of his wrist.

"This exercise is something I came up with. It involves monitoring the flow of energy you have access to as you tap into the creature's power. Try to gather what amount of Aura you think you'd be able to handle."

The girl nodded before she got into the same stance as he had before. Gian saw her crease her eyebrows briefly as she began to focus. However, unlike Gian nothing occurred. After a few more seconds Erika opened her eyes with a slightly frustrated look in her eyes.

"It's ok…! No one gets it the first time around!" Gian did his best reassuring voice "Why, when Triton-senpai showed me I didn't-!"

"Come on now, Mr. Gian." Erika pouted "You have to know how patronizing that sounds."

Gian smiled sheepishly "Yep, realized that as soon as I said it. It's true though, think of the Kaiju you possess as a huge reservoir behind a dam, and you as the floodgate. Let out too little and you won't access it, let out too much you risk flooding the area around you."

"Is that why my transformation happened without warning before?" Erika asked.

"It could be," Gian nodded "Such a quick onslaught of energy flowing through your body is something I know is very difficult to control. Let's take a look back for a second: back when those transformations occurred, do you remember what you felt at the time?"

Erika pursed her lips "I… I can't remember it fully. I do recall those were stressful times, like when my papa didn't bring enough change at the market and got into a shouting match with a shopkeeper. And more recently, with Shiki, I felt anger… pain… helplessness…"

Gian nodded "Recall what I told you last night, the Kaiju's energy flows much more easily in a state with your emotions on high alert, but at the same time it's harder to control too. Let's try this: when you attempt to channel the energy this time, try to go at it with a goal in mind. What do you hope to get out of this power?"

Erika nodded and got into a meditative stance again, her mind eased into a vision where she and her papa lived peacefully without any worry back in the little house she was born in. Thinking of that, a small flicker of green surrounded her body, much to Gian's delight.

Said green Aura soon sputtered out, leaving the little girl gasping for breath.

"D-Did I do it?"

"For a bit yeah," Gian nodded "But every start begins small, and you're beginning to connect with the kaiju. With enough practice, it'll come to you like breathing would."

Meanwhile:

In the seas of the New World, the recent news has also spread to those high in the chain of power. Shiki was from a generation where strength reigned the seas, and those who stood beside him have similar viewpoints.

Aboard the large whale-like deck of the Moby Dick, Whitebeard stood against the gales. Despite his powerful stature, Edward Newgate was a man who despised war. At his pinnacle of power, such acts only bring about devastation for those who did not deserve it, and with the kind of power he has that was all too easy.

Still, there was a reason he's reached the point where he is now. A man who clashed against Gold Roger countless times was not to be trifled with, and this extends to those under his protectorate. As such, harming any of his subordinates would be enough to bring the elderly Emperor's wrath on your head.

And when one of those people happens to be one of his sons, then heaven help you. For when the World's Strongest Man raises his banner, then all amongst his flock shall answer the call.

Twin thumping indicating the landing of two more of his sons. The old man turned to see Marco and Vercelli standing before him.

"Oyaji, all 42 captains under your name have been alerted." Marco reported. Ace was one of his closest friends, his defeat at the hands of the traitor was a shocking one. What came after was even more heart wrenching, and they simply couldn't allow it to happen.

"It is a blessing to be fighting alongside our brothers and sisters again. We stand to move towards Marineford at any moment." Vercelli also stated. As the Acting Second Division Captain while Ace is gone, the Kaiju-Zoan user never particularly felt the title belonged to him. Although he held it briefly before the fire wielding boy arrived, once Portgas D. Ace assumed the role; it just felt natural that it belonged to him.

"Indeed, it's been some time since our family has gathered, a shame it has to be under such circumstances." Whitebeard nodded sagely, "Sengoku thinks he can just take the life of a son of mine, for that I'll break Marineford in two."

"I do not wish to sound pessimistic, but I anticipate the worst," said Marco. "When that comes, I will give the signal."

"Aye, then we will do what must be done."

"I had hoped the events currently going on in the world would occupy the Marine's attention" Vercelli seethed "But it seems their main focus is still on Ace, even as Roger's former rival threatens his revolt."

Whitebeard raised an eye at that, holding out a hand for the paper. Upon receiving it, his eyes skimmed the details, his expression unreadable

"So, Shiki's ambitions finally caught up to him." he sighed "All those delusions of grandeur, in the end he's still in over his head."

"Didn't he come to see us 20 years ago? Said something about taking over the world-yoi, even wanted Oyaji to be a part of it." Marco remembered.

"Oh yeah, I remembered that day well." Vercelli cracked "Oyaji threatened to throw him overboard if he didn't clam up!"

"Shiki was always a warmonger, even when we served under the same crew his bloodlust was just barely concealed." Newgate grunted with disdain "Then again, just about everyone in that crew had a penchant for violence."

Years ago, Shiki himself had approached the Whitebeard Pirates with an offer of alliance. With Roger's death, Whitebeard was easily the most powerful force on the seas bar none. The combined influence of both of them could easily take the world with few to oppose them, and it seemed like the choice was obvious. Newgate, however, was not one to be swayed by simple offers of domination. It was something that he never deemed necessary, and in his mind he already had everything he wanted. The Golden Lion, for his part, didn't push it that much and the two parted on neutral terms.

Whitebeard sighed; he had little love for his former crewmates nor their ambitions, but Shiki was still a compatriot of his. It's becoming more and more obvious: the time of his generation, everything they've built, is coming to an end. A new era was dawning, and bringing with it new names and forces that will once again change the balance of power just as they once did.

Still, before he goes, he still has to accomplish one last thing.

"Enough reminiscing about the past. Send out the word." the old pirate rumbled "We sail for Marineford in 5 days!" and once again, his two sons stood to attention.

"Yes Oyaji, at once!"

Day 2:

"Now watch closely, this is where the fun begins."

Blue embers began to flicker around Gian as he and Erika stood near the figurehead of the Thousand Sunny.

As the demonstration happened, some of the others gathered, drawn by the effort displayed. The other Straw Hats are also taking note of Erika's development, knowing that these experiences will help her in the future. Meanwhile, the girl's father watched anxiously, wanting her to succeed but also aware of her fears.

Erika proved to be a studious learner; although progress was slow, she can feel herself getting better every time she taps into her power. With a lot of practice, she can feel herself being able to harness her Aura at growing intervals. It's a positive note, Gian thought, and he was further surprised that Erika proactively approached him to move to the next step herself.

"The Kaiju's life energy molds with you, with it are its strength and emotions. You know how to feel its Aura, now you must merge with its form."

The flames grew into a burning pillar of blue fire, and upon dissipating, Gian's Partial Transformation reared its head. Erika gazed upon the shape, a more human-sized facsimile of Gian's Full Kaiju Form, yet standing at over 9 feet tall it still towers over her.

"Make no mistake, this is strength that is borrowed. Yet in your hands, what you can achieve is extraordinary." Gian revealed, before rearing back his head and letting loose an Atom Ray to prove his point. Upon seeing Erika's face of wonder, he smiled and transformed back.

"And that's just a taste. Now you try."

"You can do it Erika!" Chopper called out from the spectator's side. Billy quacked in encouragement alongside him.

"Yeah… I can do this…" the girl whispered. Remembering the lessons from the days before, Erika tried to use everything she knew "Focus your mind… what do I hope to get from this power…"

Sure enough, the same green specks of Aura began to flicker to life. Closing her eyes she tried to focus, and it seemed to have paid off. The crowd gasped in wonder as green vines began to wrap around her arms.

"You're doing great Erika!" Luffy called out.

"It seems like she is taking it well!" Robin commented.

"This is incredible," Dr. Shiragami smiled "You can do it Erika! Don't push-!"

His comment was brought to a halt when the girl suddenly gasped in pain, and to everyone's shock the vines around her body began to grow at an exponential rate as her Aura flared violently. Soon, it was as if the plant extensions grew a mind of their own as they coiled and wrapped around any object they could find.

"Wah! What's going on?!" Usopp yelped.

"Shit! It's too much for her to hold!" Sanji called out.

"Look out!" Franky barked, and the group had to scramble as the rogue vines began to target anything in their vicinity.

"Erika!" Gian shouted, wincing as one vine lashed out and struck his shoulder. With only a split second of judgment, he undergoes his Partial Transformation again, unleashing a big burst of his own Aura. Sure enough, the surge was enough to jolt Erika out of his stupor and the crew watched cautiously as the vines retreated back into her being. The girl fell to the floor, panting loudly.

"Erika!" Dr. Shiragami ran forwards, cradling his child.

"Erika are you ok?" Nami ran over as well. The rest of the crew soon gathered close by.

Gradually, the girl calmed down, and she looked around in confusion.

"Oh… oh no! It almost happened again didn't it?!" Erika cried out "Mr. Gian… I'm sorry! I can't-I'm so sorry everyone!"

Before anyone else could do anything, the girl ran back below deck. The crew heard a door slam; it's clear Erika didn't want to face anyone right now. Seeing this, Billy raced after her; the mutant duck could tell something had gone wrong. Everyone else felt a pang of sympathy for the child that's trying so hard. None had this harder than her fellow Kaiju-Zoan user; Gian's eyes betrayed the disappointment he had in himself; he wanted so much to help her, but it seems like it just backfired on him.

"Poor girl…" Brook sighed "Maybe we should approach this from a different angle?"

"Maybe she's not ready for this step yet." Zoro suggested.

"I'll go try and talk to her 'Beast Warrior'" Dr. Shiragami coaxed "I'm sure it's just after these 2 days, she's just afraid she'd let you down."

"No…" Gian shook his head "No, I'm the one who let her down…"

Later that day:

"What am I doing Robin?" Gian groaned out "Why did I think I could teach her anything when I barely know enough on what to do with this power myself?" The two were sitting in the lounge area, but Gian's thoughts were far away from the multi-colored fish in the tank and more so on the little passenger they had with them. It's been a couple of hours, but Erika had locked herself into the guest bedroom and has not been seen out since.

Robin shook her head; clearly the events of the morning have gotten the Kaiju-Zoan user rather down. Currently, Gian was slumped over in a despondent position, though one could argue a part of him just wanted to sneak in a cuddle in his girlfriend's lap he really had been taking Erika's training seriously.

"No one thought this would be easy when you decided." the archaeologist gently assured him, her hands rubbing his temples "Having a guiding figure to help her along is better than having none at all."

The Kaiju-Zoan user sighed "Still, she's had far too many negative experiences with that power, I should've remembered that! It feels like I'm pushing her along too fast!"

"That's not true, you're just doing what you can in the limited amount of time that we have." Robin assured him "You told me, before you met 'Ocean Tempest' Triton of the Red Hair Pirates, you weren't sure what to make of your own abilities before as well. It's the same case with Erika: she's had to deal with the consequences of such a vast array of energy without any guidance, she needs you."

The archaeologist pursed her lips "Still, her own fears are not unfounded. This is something she's shouldered alone for the longest time, her fear is not of the Kaiju itself, but the pain and destruction it has brought to those around her."

Gian reached up and softly touched her face, a gesture that caused his lover to lean into his palm "That sounded like it was from the heart…"

"Let's just say, you two aren't the only ones who've beheld an ancient secret before."

"Of course…" Gian nodded, slowly sitting up and wrapping his beloved in his arms "thank you Robin, I can't believe I overlooked that detail."

"In any case, continue to be encouraging to her. I believe her feelings of uncertainty towards the powers within her are something you are familiar with as well." the archaeologist smiled.

Gian nodded "You're right Robin, everything she's afraid of, I once had the same fears. It took Triton's tutelage that I eventually grew out of that. I suppose that's why I took it upon myself to show her that the monster does not define her, that taming that power really is possible, just like Triton once showed me. And that only means I can't give up now."

Robin smiled as the Kaiju-Zoan user got up "Sorry, love. I'd hate to cut our alone time short but I've got some lessons to plan."

"Fufufufu… I expect nothing less."

Meanwhile:

The sound of clanging steel filled the underground stone chamber. Deep within the Kingdom of Tottoland, two individuals were engaged in a fierce duel. One of them, a woman clad in black armor wielding twin lances. The other was a man in the peak of his physical condition, his face obscured by a heavy feathered scarf as he met the strike with his own trident.

The lances were coursing with plasma energy, each one thrusting heavily yet none landed a hit; their target seemingly is able to see them coming from a mile away and was always 5 steps ahead when it came to dodging.

The man narrowed his eyes; his quarry was getting tired despite the gift bestowed upon her, and that would be her downfall. Indeed, it seems the frustration has boiled over as the girl let out a growl and let loose a bolt of energy from the horn-like protrusion on her helmet, something she always resorts to when the fight does not go her way. Immediately, the man was on the attack, rushing forwards with blinding speed and knocking her back with a single thrust. Landing heavily the girl tried to get up, but soon found that the man's left arm had transformed into some gelatinous mass, one that shot forwards and enveloping her in a tight grip.

The man watched her struggle for a bit before releasing the sticky restraints, leaning down and helping her up.

"You're still far too predictable. The Beetle God's powers give you strength, but there's more to a fight than simply spreading destruction."

"My apologies, big brother. I'm not in my right mind! This place is my prison, so try and be kind!" the girl gave an exaggerated bow towards the taller male.

The man sighed "You know you can let your guard down around me, Macron. Please speak normally." the girl scowled before shaking off her kabutomushi shaped helmet.

"Big Brother Katakuri, I've been stuck here for ages! I don't know why Mama wants me to focus on this dumb place! My powers will be much more suited serving at the head of our forces!"

"Hmph, if you can't even beat me, how do you expect to lead our armies?"

As the second son of Big Mom, Charlotte Katakuri had plenty of responsibilities already. Overseeing his patch of territory in Tottoland as the Minister of Flour? a task he takes rather seriously. Acting as one of the 4 Sweet Commanders of the Big Mom Pirates? A prestigious title if anything else. And now, he's also tasked by their mother to oversee the development of his 8th sister.

"Besides, there's the matter of your bloodline. That combined with the power of the monster those people once worshiped-"

"Mama's dream and chances of being Pirate King are greater than ever, yeah I know! It's all you guys talk about when it comes to me! I'm wasting away here god dammit! I have the power to sink 3 ships with a single attack, yet almost everyone in the family thinks I should be looking into all this historical gibberish!" Macron snarked, gesturing around them. The walls of the chamber, dim in the candlelight, showed rows upon rows of scripture and hieroglyphs, all incomprehensible to anyone that tries to read it.

"Foolish sister, have I not told you before that the path to power is not won simply through strength? Mama didn't reach her place with just power alone, she had the tools, the reputation, and the connections to make it in this world. This is in addition to the powerful force that our family is composed of, and as a member of this family, one day you will play your part."

"It sure doesn't feel like it…" Macron scoffed "I'm the 8th daughter of the Charlotte Family, yet unlike the rest of you who have your governments and duchies, all I have are a few decrepit ruins and a bug inside of me. Why is any of this so important?"

"Because, even if she doesn't want to admit it, Mama knows her time is limited." Katakuri replied matter of factly "For decades she reigned alongside others for dominance, but their time is reaching its climax. Take a look at this:"

The girl with the beetle motif leaned over to see her elder brother hold out a newspaper clipping. The news seemed irrelevant; a supposed pirate attempted to assail East Blue only to meet his end at the hands of the Marines. Seems rather commonplace activity, why was he showing her this now?

"Big Brother, I don't know who that is."

"Shiki was Mama's former crewmate back when they served under the same banner. When the crew disbanded and the members stuck out on their own, he'd been the one to challenge Gold Roger directly. And yet, the news did not paint the whole story in his downfall. Though it claims the Marines took him down, there have been rumors that it was another pirate crew."

Macron narrowed her eyes "Why are you telling me this?"

"Shiki's story just goes to show you that even with power you cannot rule forever, thus our family in its entirety must contribute to Mama's success. One day, when the secrets of your heritage become fully revealed to you, then you will lead the vanguard in spreading Mama's dream to all corners of the world."

Macron was jolted from her thoughts when Katakuri stood up and kicked his trident back into his hands as he got into a fighting stance.

"Now we've taken enough of a break, let's wrap this up quickly. We're to meet Mama for the tea party she's hosting soon."

Macron grunted as she once again met his challenge. If that so-called destiny of hers is to come, she hoped it would come quickly.

Meanwhile:

After the disastrous showing earlier, Erika's uncertainty has come back in droves. Even though it's only been 2 days, she's felt that Gian had taught her enough that she'd at least be able to handle some of the overflowing power the monster within her carried. Now, she realized, she still has a long way to go. The memories of hurting her father was what pushed her to try to normalize this power, but just the memory of the monster makes her falter.

Sighing, Erika rested her head in her arms right as she heard a knock on the door. Slowly getting up, she opened it just a little.

"Hey Erika!" To her surprise, the sight of none other than Tony Tony Chopper greeted her. It was a pleasant sight nonetheless; everybody in the Straw Hats have been very kind and welcoming to her father and herself, and often try to find any reason to interact with them. Erika herself has found herself getting along with them quite well; aside from Gian, it was Luffy, Nami, Robin and the reindeer in front of her now that she knew the best.

"Hello Dr. Chopper, what can I do for you?"

"I was just heading to the infirmary to check up on our inventory! Your papa says you want to be a doctor eventually too! Would you like to help me today?"

Erika hesitated, before nodding slightly.

"Of course, I'll be right there!"

It turns out that playing assistant had been a godsend, it was at least enough to make her forget some of the turmoil she was feeling earlier. Not to mention, her own knowledge on which plants are good for medicine made the little deer quite proud. All in all, a much needed learning experience for her too.

"Wow, Erika! You sure know a lot!" Chopper stated.

"When I was younger, my dad was often away with his work." Erika explained "To pass the time, I've done a lot of reading, many of those books were on botany and how certain plants have great medical benefits."

"It's always good to pursue more knowledge, and we always need more doctors in the world!" Chopper beamed.

"I guess a part of it is because I just really don't like seeing people hurting because of their health. Especially… Especially after my mom passed away… Before…"

And the doctor did not miss the clenching of her fists and a few stray teardrops hitting the desk.

Chopper hurriedly placed a reassuring hoof on her arm "Don't cry Erika…! What happened this morning doesn't mean anything! You're doing the best you can!"

"B-But it's not enough!" Erika wept "Ever since papa tried to cure me, I've caused nothing but problems for him! I've lost control too many times, each time I think that it's safe to let go. I end up hurting more people!"

"That's not your fault though, Erika!" Chopper coaxed "I know exactly what you're going through! You can't blame yourself for it!"

"How can you say that if you've never had the curse I do?"

"You're afraid to hurt other people with the power inside you, you're afraid to be seen as a monster. I know it may seem scary, but I can also tell you want to help people, and the power that you have can do just that!"

Erika blinked; despite his small stature, Chopper spoke in a way that seemed mature beyond his years. It was as if such a feeling was commonplace for the little deer.

"Y-You've been in my place, haven't you? Even though you don't have a monster inside you…"

"I don't need to have a monster," Chopper stated "I am one!"

Seeing the confused look on the girl's face, the doctor revealed his own history. Erika had not expected that the little deer had gone through so much. A reindeer that gained the sentience of a human, a being that was seen as a freak by all save for the people close to him.

Chopper was on his way to be so much more, and if that could be possible…

"It took me meeting Luffy and everyone else to know I am more than what people see me as. What the Devil Fruit made me into, I will use it to help him!" The reindeer smiled "And you have that opportunity now too!"

"I-I think I know what you're saying…" Erika mumbled "Mr. Gian said the same thing, I can't let the fear of what this monster means affect what I will become."

"Hehe, that sounds like something he'd say." Chopper beamed, "After all, aside from Luffy, who else did you think showed me that I'm more than what I look like?"

Erika smiled; indeed, it seems even now, everything she'd gone through, Gian knew her feelings more than anyone else.

"Thank you Dr. Chopper, thank you all for looking out for me. I'll do my best!"

"That's great, I know you'll succeed!" the reindeer beamed. A few more pleasantries before the doctor left for his own affairs, leaving Erika with her thoughts again.

"If I am ever to make sure this power never harms papa again, I can't be afraid of it myself. I can't let all the faith Mr. Gian has in me go to waste! There has to be a way to make sure I don't get overwhelmed."

With that in mind, Erika began to meditate again. Her purpose reignited, now even moreso.

Elsewhere:

"Your loyalty to your lord is admirable. Loyalty is something I respect." Kaido rumbled, his kanabo at his side. Beneath him, draped in heavy chains, was a disheveled man who could barely hold his posture. Even so, a fire burned bright in his eyes, and he had nothing less than a glare at the giant pirate.

Ever since the despot usurped the throne, Wano Country has been decrepit and stripped of its resources. What was once lush farmland and bountiful cities was now an arid wasteland, the jagged weapons factories that dotted the land chugging smoke into the air, further poisoning an already festering wound.

Kurozumi Orochi's rule was not one that was met with resounding applause; far from it in fact. A vengeful wretch that took out the suffering of his family on the very country that forsaken him, the Shogun's political prisoners and enemy pirates were shackled and enslaved, it is a crucible truly meant to break the spirit of even the strongest willed.

And Kaido, the one who backed such an usurpation, was the one who truly reaped the benefits. The weapons and territory expanded his ever growing influence, but it was the talent in this land that truly were the diamonds in the rough. Kozuki Oden had a loyal following, and even in death those who were under his banner remained dedicated to him. Of course, for this slight the diminutive Orochi had them all held in prisons around the country, but those who live remained strong.

"It always is interesting watching the livestock struggle for survival." Xenons' voice seemingly reverberated throughout the throne room. The high marshall of Kaido joined his benefactor in this interrogation. Though the events of Wano's takeover happened long before he joined the Beast Pirates, he knew enough to know what Kaido wants "You will find that my lord is merciful to those under his thrall. The Beast Pirates can elevate you to a position that the late Kozuki Oden never could."

Down below, the battered ronin could only just spare a glance towards the seemingly outworldly warrior. To them, Xenon was an anomaly; while Kaido and his ilk have long been their oppressors, the armor clad being's involvement was far more recent; by the time he rose through the ranks the Beast Pirates had already subjugated Wano for almost 2 decades.

Because of this, to the oppressed commons Xenon was an otherwise rather elusive person, the people of the country rarely saw the High Marshal of the Beast Pirates, and never without that skeletal armor of his. They knew even less of who he is, though rumors and whispers of his origins rang far and wide even in his own camp; of how the man may not even be from this world itself…

Whatever the truth is, he was to be feared.

But if the samurai of Wano lacked one thing, it was exactly that.

"Do not speak my master's name, you interlopers!" the warrior spat. Years of abuse and wounds did not diminish his spirit in the least, and even one spark of rebellion was enough to keep their sanity and focus "Lord Oden is the only true ruler of this land, not you!"

"Kozuki Oden is gone, an uncouth lout that never used the strength he had." Kaido growled "Even now, his supposed most loyal followers hide instead of facing me. He could've made his mark in history, instead he'll always be remembered as a fool."

"Just you wait… the Nine Red Scabbards will return any day now! They'll restore everything you sought to destroy."

"Ah yes… the Daimyo's prestigious retainers." Xenon drawled "A truly heartwarming tale, shame there's nothing they can do to stop us."

"They will, even now they wait to take you all down once and for all!" The samurai snarled "Just you wait… our vengeance is coming, sooner or later…"

"Enough, if you won't join me then I have no more use for you." Kaido growled "Xenon, kill this fool."

The warrior smirked under his mask as he strode up to the downed ronin. The defiant samurai gave one last look of hatred before he let out a choked cry as Xenon lifted him by the throat.

"If there's one thing I admire about you samurai, it's that you still have so much vitality even when broken." the warrior grinned savagely "May you at least still serve some purpose.

Kaido watched impassively as the events unfolded. Within his grasp, the ronin could only spasm for a brief moment before his body seemingly collapsed onto himself, the muscles in his cheeks along with the rest of his body practically imploding upon itself as slivers of energy coursing up Xenon's arm. When the armored warrior finally dropped his prey in a heap, all that's left was a dilapidated corpse.

Xenon smirked before turning to his benefactor "You're not a particularly popular individual, Lord Kaido."

"Those samurai still have faith in their lord. I can't say I'm surprised" Kaido grunted "If Kozuki Oden had anything to his name, it was that his following heeded his every call."

"So you've told me, it's no wonder our benefactor doesn't let anything slip by." Xenon sneered, "You humans sure do put a lot of value on such loyalty."

"It's a respectable trait to have, but one that could lead you astray." Kaido scoffed, "Those fools still cling to hope that their former comrade in arms will come to fulfill their prophecy, yet the time of Kozuki Oden is long over."

"I suppose the sentiment was always there." Xenon drawled "Shall I fetch you another prisoner from the dungeons?"

"No, let this be another reminder for them." Kaido responded "If they do not submit, they die. It's that simple."

"As you say." Xenon shrugged. The sound of flapping wings soon alerted the group as a News Coo deposited its documents over. The giant emperor caught it in his hand before flipping over the pages. His eyes narrowed as he continued to read.

"Ah, more activities in the world beyond our borders." Xenon commented as he took a peek at the contents "Another pirate fell from the summit of his ambitions it seems."

"Not just any figure." Kaido growled "Shiki, the Golden Lion."

"Your old crewmate, if I remember correctly. I heard from around the grapevine." Xenon mused. In their time together, both parties were wary of the other just as much as they relied on each other's talents. Neither let too much of each other slip, though with Kaido's reputation as infamous as it is, Xenon was able to glean enough of what kind of person his benefactor is. Inversely however, the Emperor could find next to nothing on the background of his mysterious charge. It was an irritating lack of knowledge, one that Xenon had merely assured him with a statement of how their goals would ultimately align, whatever that was.

"I had not joined that crew for long at the time, he was my senior." Kaido growled "A man with boundless ambitions dwarfed only by the captain of that crew. And just like him, it seems it proved to be his downfall."

"Regrettable for him then, it seems like he came close only to being struck down by stronger forces if the news is anything to go by." Xenon stated.

"Tch, he always was one to overestimate his capabilities. Even went ahead to challenge Roger for his title, never knowing when to stop." Kaido scoffed "But his time is over, it's been over since he's gone into hiding 20 years ago, and no matter what kind of spark he tried to ignite it would never amount to anything."

"So I take it there's no love lost between the two of you then?"

"There's none of that to begin with in that crew. If you had strength, then you'd live." Kaido responded gruffly "Shiki at least remembered that much, but even then he's fallen behind. The new future has no place for him anymore."

By now however, Xenon was no longer listening to his commander; his attention instead was focused on one little detail mentioned in the newspaper.

Or, more specifically, one person.

"I don't really believe everything in the news, but it seems you were at the scene after all." the armored warrior's grin widened "Try as you might, you cannot escape your heritage. That monster draws you to conflict, it screams for more, and pulls you ever closer to your destiny."

Low rumbles of laughter began to escape his throat, the image of the newspaper; a clear photo of Vice Admiral Gideon displayed, greatly pleased him in more ways than one would know.

"Just how much longer, can you deny your true calling, Child of X?"

Meanwhile:

"So I revamped our lesson plan slightly, I realized I may have been pushing you too fast." Gian told Erika as they gathered again the day after "I owe you an apology, I should've considered how you'd be feeling."

"No, I should be the one apologizing." Erika mumbled "You've tried so hard to help me, it seems like I'm just not able to get it."

"Don't be, you already know more than you probably should." Gian assured her "In any case, we'll do things at a more refined pace. Just focus on your control for now; work your way towards the Partial Transformation whenever you think you're ready."

Erika smiled "I'd like that."

And so, they settled in for a calming session of meditation and Aura control. Gian was pleased to see Erika's progress; in just mere days she was able to have a better grasp on the amount of energy she could manipulate in her.

A satisfying session now conclude, they were about to bid each other good night, before Erika turned around for one last thing.

"Thank you for the past couple of days, Mr. Gian." Erika smiled "I know I haven't been the best student, but you're not giving up on me. This must be so difficult."

"Hey, come on now. No need to lay on the setiments that much." Gian joked "I already told you I'm doing this because you'll need it."

"You say that, but I can't help feeling there's more." Erika pushed "When you're showing me what to do, I can feel something buried under your smile. You're doing more than helping me are you?"

Gian's smile dropped slightly, before letting out a sigh.

"Do you really wish to learn the reason?"

"If I do, I think it might help me on how I can approach better handling the Kaiju."

A brief silence, before Gian relented and let her back into the study. Erika noticed he was quick to shut the door; clearly whatever is about to be said was something he'd rather keep behind closed doors.

"Well, I have to say, you're an insightful little girl on top of being talented." Gian shrugged "I do genuinely want to help you control the monster you have, not just so you can live your life without strife, but also because I want you to know you are not alone in your struggles. I wasn't lying when I said everything you've felt about this power, I've experienced it myself."

Erika blinks as Gian sat down and looked at her "How much do know about how I got this fruit?"

"Uh, the others mentioned a bit about you, what you told them anyway…" she relayed the few bits of information that was told to her. How Gian never knew his childhood, his earliest memories of horrific science experiments done to him due to the regenerative properties, how he didn't know what kind of power he had until much later, after he was freed by the conscience of another.]

"All true, but it doesn't go into everything." Gian answered, "What you don't know was what happened after."

As Erika's attention was piqued, Gian leaned back onto the study's bed, his eyes gazing into the distance.

"As you may know, I managed to escape the horrible man, but he was relentless, and he sent a pirate after me. That pirate slaughtered the small vessel I was on and proceeded to return me to my captor. It was halfway back that we stopped at an island, where they decided to conduct a raid on a nearby village." Erika gasped as she saw his fist tighten "Me getting recaptured was one thing, but then they decided to bring harm to others. Then, they decided to take it one step further by attempting to kill 2 random villagers just 2 feet from where I was standing."

"That's when you used the monster didn't you?" Erika said hopefully "You used the monster to beat them all up!"

Her hope was faltered when Gian let out a humorless chuckle "You're a smart little lady you know that? Yup, that was the day the Kaiju reared its ugly head."

"Then that means you-!" Erika started, but the words soon died in her throat. Gian's expression was not one of pride, far from it in fact.

Flashback:

"So, our little stowaway joins us! Come, sit!"

15 year old Gian had more or less accepted his current situation. It took a bit to find his bearings, but with continued reassurances from the captain and crew, he realized this time he was not about to be harmed. Whoever these people are, 'Red Hair' Shanks ran an organized crew, and it was proper manners to at least try to make pleasantries.

And the crew were welcoming as well, Lucky Roo handed him a piece of meat and a mug of rum, to which Benn Beckman hastily replaced with a glass of grape juice instead.

"You guys…" Gian mumbled "I haven't thanked you all for saving me… have I?"

"We're pirates, Gian." Benn replied "We do things because we can. Not for gratitude."

"Still, if it weren't for the captain, I'd probably be dead on that beach, or brought back to that scientist." Gian teared up "You guys came for me when I needed it the most…"

"You've been through a lot." Triton soothed "Try to focus on other things for now, no one will come for you while you're here."

"I guess… I'm just glad you showed up when you did." Gian nodded "I hope those villagers are alright too."

The room fell silent.

"Kid…" Yasopp chimed in "How much do you remember of that island?"

"I-I… that pirate was going to kill them… I tried to stop him, he hit me on the head… then I woke up here…" Gian stammered "Why? What happened?"

Panic began rise within him as none of the crew answered "Tell me what happened?!" Gian demanded.

Yassop was about to speak up, when Triton ushered him to sit down, making it clear he'll take this. Gently crouching down, he gave Gian a soft smile.

"Gian, come with me."

"Why? Where are we-"

"…Come with me."

Shanks stood by the cabin door of their passenger, his face was somber as the process went by within. Gian's distress was completely justified, considering he's went through so much already.

After all, how else would a 15 year old child react to the news that he single-handedly razed an entire island until there were no survivors?

"HOW CAN THIS-? I COULDN'T-! I DON'T KNOW-!" Triton took in the boy's cries with no retaliations; this was something that he too unfortunately knew too well. It had been hard for him even back then, what of a child?

The mohawked navigator caught sight of his captain observing the scene, a nod of acknowledgement between the 2 men. Shanks knew that Gian would need time to process this, but he could sense strength from the boy, after all he'd been through. He would need that strength in the days to come.

It was another day and a half that Gian approached Triton on an idyllic afternoon. The navigator admits he didn't think the kid would bounce back as quickly as he did, but Gian's face was now somber and serious.

"Hello little passenger, what can I do for you?"

"Please train me."

"I beg your pardon?"

"You told me yourself… You showed me… you have the same type of power I do. I'm asking you to train me!"

"Kid…" Triton sighed "This is something far bigger than you can imagine. You're still young, why bother yourself with something out of your league?"

"You're sending me to East Blue right? I want to have peace now as well, but when I think back to that day, if I don't know how to temper this monster, then no one will be safe." His little hands balled into fists "I… I can't let that happen again. I can't let people who don't even know about this power be hurt because of what I have. If I don't control it, then I won't be able to live without fear!"

The words touched the man; even at such a young age, Triton knew that Gian already knows somewhat of the magnitude that affects him now. There was far too much he didn't know, especially the particular monster embedded inside him, yet he was willing to face it.

"I wasn't lying when I said this power is more than what you'd expect. But it seems you know the seriousness of this situation more than I'd believe." Gian backed up slightly when the navigator kicked his trident up into his hands.

"Know this, up until now we've treated you as a guest. If I am to train you, that will no longer be the case. You will be treated as a pirate, as do all who sail these seas. It's still not too late to back out."

Hardships be damned, Gian gave a determined glare "I've seen the face of Death many times already, a few bruises won't deter me from what I must do. When do we start training?"

The boy was nearly bowled over by the strong gust of wind that howled from Triton's body, Gian gave a slight gulp as Triton's eyes became slitted, a toothy grin now adorning his face.

"We already did."

Flashback End

Erika was silent; nothing needed to be said. Even looking into the man's eyes, Erika knew exactly what happened.

"I never knew…"

"That was the day I realized how devastating this power really was, and you've already witnessed yourself." Gian grimaced "Now do you understand, these lessons aren't just to prepare you, I want you to truly know that nothing you did was your fault. Now that it's happened, we both have an obligation to make sure it never happens to the people we love ever again."

"Yes… we have to." Erika agreed "I'm not afraid anymore, I'll face it head on! This creature won't build my life, my papa's life. I'll make sure he never has to fear for anything ever again!"

"Atta girl." Gian grinned "But we're still gonna stick to the lessons we have. Triton was a drill sergeant the way he pushed me in those weeks. It ultimately helped in the end, but I was sore like every second day! I think I'll omit that part when it comes to our things."

"But I can punch people too…" Erika pouted.

"Is that so?" Gian shook his head affectionately "Well, you dad will have something to say about that, and that is a thought even scarier than facing down the toughest pirates. Now go on, get some sleep already, it's going to be even more stuff tomorrow."

Later:

Another day ended, and once more closer to their destination. Dr. Shiragami smiled lightly as he headed to the cabin they were staying in. The Straw Hats had been the most exemplary hosts during this time, always making sure they're comfortable and giving them anything they needed. He and Erika tried not to be too much of a burden, but the generosity received was more than appreciated. Erika has made fast friends with the other members of the crew, and according to navigator Nami, she'd played rather vigorously today and was currently sleeping in the room she shared with Robin.

He just opened the door when he was greeted with the resident Kaiju-Zoan user towering over the desk in the cabin, various items were already out, and Gian had clutched one particular photo in his hands. The sight managed to startle both of them.

"M-Mr. Gian…!"

"...I'm sorry doctor, Sanji asked me to bring you some fruit." Gian gestured to a plate near the bed's nightstand "I didn't mean to-"

Shiragami noticed that the man's eyes were swirling with emotions, much too complicated for him to guess on his own. One look at the picture however, was enough to know what he was thinking of. After all, he had met each and every individual in that photo.

He remembered it well, back when they were colleagues, back when things were much simpler, back when neither of their ambitions grew to dangerous proportions.

Himself, on the right, in a dapper lab coat and sharp glasses.

The figure in the middle, his large cranium notable to all, was Dr. Vegapunk, the smartest man in the world.

And the leftmost figure, draped in long robes with an air of superiority to his features, was none other than Caesar Clown.

The very same man that had caused the one standing before him unimaginable pain.

"Gian… I'm sure you have many questions…"

"How do you know him doctor…" the Kaiju-Zoan user choked out "Why didn't you tell me you knew him?!"

Shiragami pursed his lips; Even before they met, he'd already done some background research into 'Beast Warrior. While it was due to his cooperation with Shiki to confirm whether the young pirate does indeed possess the Goji-Goji no Mi, it also informed him of a few key details of his past. Specifically, how his former colleague had tortured and experimented on a child in the name of science.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snoop Dr. Shiragami, but I can't let this go now that I've seen it." Gian rasped.

A long silence followed, before the scientist turned and closed the door.

"Sit down, Gian." he gestured to the bed. As the Kaiju-Zoan did so, Shiragami let out a sigh.

"First, a confession, I haven't been completely truthful to you. You may think we've just met, but in truth I know quite a bit about who you are and had quite a bit of insight into your background. Though please it was due to the condition of my association rather than any particular curiosity."

"I don't care about that." Gian stated "I figured Shiki might've known something, now I know why."

"In that case then I suppose I will move onto the subject at hand. To answer your question, yes, I do know Caesar Clown. Or I should say it was technically Vegapunk that introduced us; they were a part of a scientific research group that I had occasionally collaborated with. Eventually we became colleagues when that organization dissolved and they were drafted by the World Government. My field was genetics while theirs dealt with chemistry and technology."

"So it's true then, you did work with Caesar Clown…"

"This was long before the allegations came to light, long before we knew what he was really doing behind the scenes." Dr. Shiragami stated "But then again, perhaps I shouldn't judge so easily. After all, I'm not so clean cut either. All of us had skeletons in our closets in one fashion or another."

The doctor tried to gauge Gian's expressions, trying to see any indication of what the young man might be feeling then. It seems that the Kaiju-Zoan user was merely intent to hear out the reasons.

"Don't look so surprised. Considering how we've met, I'd say that is to be expected. I didn't always have an audible moral conscience, and my compatriots even less so. Yes, even the good doctor that delivered you from your captivity has had his fair share of dubious motives."

"So you even know that much about me huh?" Gian chuckled "Don't think I'm that naive. Dr. Vegapunk may have saved my life, but it's not like I knew him that well. And whatever you've done in the past doesn't matter to me. I see the person you are now, that's all that matters for me."

His smile dropped "How did they catch Caesar eventually?"

"Around the time you had escaped Punk Hazard, I had already split from the World Government for some time though I do keep tabs on the scientific world. Eventually, the truth of what he was doing came to light, along with many other dealings and unethical practices that he had condoned; collaborations with numerous criminal organizations and pirate crews and the sort. Eventually, even Vegapunk refused to cover for him any longer, and he was arrested. " the doctor sighed, a hint of regret in his voice "Caesar's mind was brilliant, but his focus was in a dark place. In his youth he, Vegapunk, along with a host of other unsavory individuals focused their talents on making weapons. Vegapunk eventually grew out of that and dedicated his talents to bettering the world, but it seems that Caesar never did change."

"Yeah, that's putting it lightly." Gian scoffed "At least he's captured now. A monster like him should've never had the chance to do what he did to begin with."

"A younger me would've disregarded even that." Dr. Shiragami stated "Be assured, however, that our relationship was merely professional and even then that was sometimes hard to achieve. And mark my word, had I known the horrific things he'd done, I'd have severed any remaining contact with him the moment I'd find out."

"Of course…" Gian smiled softly "Sorry if this seems so sudden, the things that happened all those years ago, just seeing that man brings out feelings I've forgotten I had. I don't mean to push you to reveal anything.

"If everything I've learned about you were correct, then you have every reason to do so. I had actually honestly forgotten much about this photo. It was a time when things were far less complicated. No agendas, no schemes, before our ambitions got the better of us." Shiragami softly spoke with a half smile on his face.

"Don't take this the wrong way, but you look great in lab gear." Gian snickered "Though did Dr. Vegapunk get something done with his face? The memories from that night were hazy, but I recall the man who spoke to me seemed much younger, and I could've sworn his face was covered by something like a helmet or something. It's a bit fuzzy, everything came at me all at once."

"So he doesn't know about that secret of yours it seems." Shiragami thought before chuckling "For the answer to that, you'll just have to find out for yourself if you ever see Vegapunk again."

"Well that's not suspicious at all." Gian snorted, but didn't press the issue any further.

The scientist dusted himself off "Well, it's getting late. I supposed you'd want to rest up before my daughter rags you for any more questions tomorrow."

Gian laughed "Hey, she's learning fast, and she knows more than you'd believe. But you're right, I do hear my bunk calling my name."

The Kaiju-Zoan user was halfway out the door before he turned his head back, a thankful expression not leaving his face.

"Thank you for listening tonight, you're a good man Dr. Shiragami." the scientist only smiled and nodded as the first mate left for the night.

Once Gian was out of sight, Shiragami took one last look at the group photo before letting out a sigh; it wasn't technically a lie, he and Caesar Clown really were merely just colleagues and by the time he found out what was really happening, he was the first to voice his opposition.

But he wonders what would 'Beast Warrior' Gian think, should he ever find out that it was in fancy he who reached out to his former colleague, and that it was him who sought out Caesar Clown for his research in desperation. If only he knew ahead of time just where his former colleague was getting his results from.

Or, what would 'Beast Warrior' think if he knew that he was there on Punk Hazard the day before Vegapunk broke him out, separated by merely a steel door.

And how it was because of Gian himself, that led Shiragami to discover the fruit that his own daughter now possessed.

He also left out one more detail; Caesar Clown may have been arrested that day, but he had escaped before he was brought to justice. Even now, Gian's former tormentor is at large, and no one knew where he was. It took a lot of hesitation not to reveal this fact, but the young pirate has already done so much for him and Erika. Burdening him with such a fact, something he has no control over at the moment, was not something he wished to put on his savior.

"Even now, we can never truly escape our past can we…? But you're so much stronger now, whatever demons that once tormented you may just find themselves on the receiving end." The doctor muttered before turning in for the night.

Some time Later:

"Well, this is it…" Gian sighed as the Thousand Sunny pulled into port. It was a small island with a scenic seaside town that was suitable for settling down, a rarity if anything in the middle of the Grand Line. The crew had already finished restocking supplies, and now there was one more thing in order.

"I can't thank you and your crew enough." Dr. Shiragami bowed "Everything you've done for us, even after all that's happened."

"Shishishi! Come on now! I already told you it was nothing!" Luffy beamed.

"After all we went through together you really shouldn't be that modest." Nami affirmed "Now, you'll take good care of them won't you Billy?" the mutant duck, having decided to stay on the island with the father and daughter duo, quacked in affirmation.

"Are you sure you guys are good at this place?" Sanji asked "We've still got another leg of our voyage to our next destination, it's supposed to be even more populous than here."

"We've taken up more than enough of your time already. Now we will chart our own course, just as you've told us." Shiragami assured him as he picked up their bag.

"Where will you go next?" Robin inquired.

"For now, I think Erika and I will find our footing here for a bit. It's still so surreal to think Shiki no longer has a hold over us. I'll have to do some planning regarding our next course of action."

"No matter where you go, no one can hold you down any longer." Zoro nodded.

A few more goodbyes were said as the crew bid their temporary guests a safe journey. Where they go now, they are free to decide for themselves.

Off to the side, Erika stood side by side with Gian. The teen looked up bashfully at her fellow Kaiju-Zoan user, the lessons they partook in may have been brief, but right now she's never felt more in tune with the vast rivers of power within her.

"So… I'm going now." the little girl spoke softly "I-If it weren't for you, I'd still be so scared…"

"You're strong Erika." Gian smiled "You always have been. Now you're free to express that."

"I suppose I do…" Erika nodded.

"Erika, it's time to depart." her father called out. Erika nodded, hastily picking up her knapsack and hoisting it over her shoulder.

"I guess this is it! I'll- I'll try to write…! I'm not sure how you'd be able to receive them but I-ohh I'm just rambling now. I had something I was planning to say but the moment came and I don't even remember…"

Gian chuckled "Erika, it's ok! I'm glad to have met you. Now go on, you have your whole life ahead of you now!"

The little girl nodded before stepping off onto the dock with her father. The crew watch them leave, the duo slowly disappearing into the crowds ashore.

Until suddenly, Erika Shiragami came sprinting back!

"Mr. Gian!" she called out. Before Gian could even answer her, the girl closed her eyes and held her arms out.

The transformation that occurred after was met with resounding gasps from all that saw it. The same green aura washed over the girl's body, beginning as a billowing flame before taking on a softer smolder.

Whereas uncertainty dominated before, this time Erika seemed serene.

And the change that followed suit was equally peaceful. Green vines slithered out of her arms and wrapped around them like sleeves. This time, she was in control, and she didn't stop there. Large red petal-like extensions extended around her neck, as vines further enveloped her body like an organic suit of armor. Letting out a soft breath, Erika opened her eyes and smiled, now shining with an opalescent green shade.

"She did it…" Zoro noted.

"Erika looks like a forest fairy queen!" Chopper beamed.

"What a cute transformation." Robin smiled.

"You did it, Erika…" Shiragami smiled in relief. Beside him, Billy quacked in awe.

"Erika…" Gian slowly smiled "Erika this is amazing!"

The girl grinned brightly back, maintaining her form for a half second more before it flickered away. The girl dropped back onto the dock.

"I-I had to practice a lot… But I can't leave before I show you." Erika panted as her father helped her up "I feel so tired… but it feels right!"

"And you've already got a better hang on it than I did at your age, I dare say." Gian praised "Soon it'll come to you like second nature. Well done-"

The pirate was at a loss for words when his fellow Kaiju-Zoan user ran up and surrounded him in a big hug.

"Thank you, Big Brother Gian…" the girl let out a muffled cry "W-When I was so deep in despair… when I was afraid to hurt everyone. You were the one that pulled me back to my feet. I couldn't have done any of this without you! I-I… Thank you so much!"

"B-Big brother…?" Gian stammered at that.

"Just accept it man," Franky snorted, "It's a big honor."

"I thought you'd be used to this by now!" Usopp laughed.

"Yohohoho! This moment really tugs at your heartstrings!" Brook wept "Ah, but I no longer have-"

"She means it, Gian." Dr. Shiragami smiled "You, all of you, you may not have to accept it. But to Erika and I, you're family all the same."

"Doctor…" Gian mumbled, before shaking off the doubt and returning the embrace.

"I'll miss you kid," Gian said softly "I'll see you around I hope."

Soon, after a few more farewells, some tears being shed by both sides, the Thousand Sunny disembarked from the port to continue her voyage. Erika continued to wave, calling out her goodbyes to the one who shared her burden.

"That crew…" Dr. Shiragami mused, "It really seems there's nothing they can't do."

"I'm going to miss them papa," Erika mumbled "Especially Big Brother Gian.. I really hope I see them again one day."

"That day may come sooner than you think." Dr. Shiragami thought as he stroked her daughter's hair gently "With the monster within you placated for now, you and Gian-san may not be done with one another just yet."

"We'll see them again, for sure." Shiragami stated as the two of them alongside Billy continued to watch the sea. "After all, with that crew, I don't think they're even close to being finished with the world."

A/N: After many months of procrastination, 2 and half playthroughs of Baldur's Gate 3, and a crap ton of writer's block, we have finally reached the 100th chapter of this story! Yup, the small tale that I began 8 years ago has finally hit triple digits! And this isn't even close to stopping. Especially not considering One Piece itself is now in its Final Saga and the information I've gotten has thrown me for more than enough loops.

Apart from general negligence and being busy with other stuff, part of the reason this chapter took so long was because of all the new plot developments and how I wanted to proceed now that I have that information. To say a lot has happened during these couple of months to One Piece has been an understatement. This chapter is mostly a filler chapter, but Shiki was part of Rocks, I've also included some of that former crew as well. THEN, Oda decided to casually drop the remaining group of Rocks Pirates in and I was debating whether to include them here or not. Yes, originally I was going to write about about both Stussy and Gloriosa and how they might react to Shiki's death, but ultimately I figured that'll just drag on an already filler chapter and so I kept it to just Whitebeard, Kaido and Big Mom (Hell, Big Mom was ultimately replaced by Katakuri because I don't know whether she'd even care about her former crew or not, that and I just wanted an excuse to write Katakuri earlier.)

Not only that, Oda also dropped Vegapunk lore and long story short, I now have to find a way to work that into the story. Hell, when Lilith was revealed first I almost had to think of how I was gonna present him as a woman later.

And thus, I have to officially announce that this story now has its very first retcon considering how things go. In the first chapter, as we all know Gian was rescued by Dr. Vegapunk, 8 years ago when none of us knew what he looked like nor the fact that he also has 6 Satellites. It was an opportunity that was too good not to take, so the change is now set here. As of now, in the first chapter, Gian was officially rescued by Shaka instead. This really doesn't affect anything right now, but when we do get to Egghead it'll make for something that I'll look forward to. But that's not for a long while at least, I do already have some sort of a plan for that point, but that's neither here nor there.

Finally, there's the fact of the Live Action series that came out back in August of last year. One that doesn't suck for an anime adaptation either! What it did do, is present East Blue in a different light for me. They were able to make some worthwhile changes to the series that worked out, and it made me realize, in my earlier days, I had not utilized that opportunity as well as I should have. Yeah, I was deadass reconsidering actually doing rewrites for chapters 3-24! They were written back when I didn't have a solid plan on what I wanted to do with the Kaiju-Zoan theme of this story and back when I followed canon more closely from point A to B, and looking back on it I really could have diverged a lot more. If I do decide to rewrite the earlier chapters, it would probably focus on Gian and what he'd do in the situations planted, and quite a few events would play out a bit more differently. Ultimately this is very low in terms of priority, and a lot of opportunity cost as well since I'll have to put focus on that. But if the opportunity arises and there's some form of interest from you readers, I may consider doing that.

Regardless of any changes, it's surprising to see how much time has passed since I posted the first chapter. Back then I had no idea which direction was going to go, and now a somewhat stable world has been created, a separate reality to the main series as far as my delusional thoughts would allow me to, but seriously, to all that stuck with this story for 8 years, thank you so much.

Here's to many more to come!
