Chapter 4|
It had been several days since the return of the group plus one. Everyone had been patched up and had debrief the guild master.
-Morning-
The doors to the guild burst open. Fiora stepped through the threshold. Her red hair was tied back, and she wore her normal clothes.
"Oi, Blaze! Good morning!" Abernathy greeted. Fiora smirked and put her hands on her hips.
"I'm surprised you're here. I figured after that mission we wouldn't see you for a week." She said.
"Oh, trust me, I tried to stay home but-" He stopped, as Coral slid in behind him. He felt the killing intent behind her usual signature smile.
"We can't have one of our senior members setting a bad example, can we? Not especially when they bring back a brand-new member." Coral voiced with her chipper, sing song voice.
"How did you even find me?" Abernathy cried to himself.
"I followed the stench of laziness." She expressed, her eyes darkening. Abernathy nervously chuckled and scratched the back of his head.
"Hehe. Ok Coral, you made your point." He said.
"Where is our new member?" Fiora asked. Abernathy pointed to Viperion who was eating with Luna and Gideon. Coral's gaze turned from sinister to angelic. Fiora went over.
"Geez! Abe what did you do this time to make Coral angry?" Basil asked walking over. Abernathy sighed and rubbed his face.
"I'd rather not say." He voiced. Coral went over to the four. She bowed.
"Good morning! And a special good morning to you Viperion-san." She expressed. Viperion smiled and bowed back. She looked different. She didn't have an exoskeleton, but skin like a human and her wings were gone. The only thing that remained was her antennae.
"Good morning to you too. And please, just call me Vi. Gideon suggested I get used to being called that." Viper voiced. Fiora paused and gave Gideon a side eye.
"Huh?" She expressed out loud, as if the information were processed in her brain, but it still didn't make sense. "You gave her a nickname?" Fiora raised an eyebrow. Abernathy walked over.
"She's part of the guild Fiora." Abe voiced, defending Gideon. Fiora crossed her arms.
"Giving nicknames is my thing. And since when have you been so buddy buddy with 'Vi'? You haven't come by my new apartment since we came back. You've been avoiding me mole man." She accused. Gideon chuckled and waved his hands defensively.
"Fi relax. Mole man? You're not even that original. Besides, it was because Abernathy-san has been giving me tasks to make sure Viperion is getting adjusted." He voiced. Abernathy sighed and crossed his arms.
"Look Fi. Gideon hasn't avoided you. This whole situation with Viperion has had me stressed. Her integration in the guild has had me on my feet."
"I'm sorry that you all are going through so much trouble for me." Vi apologized. Coral waved her hands.
"No no! We are glad to have you Vi-chan!" She expressed. Basil agreed.
"Yes, our guild takes in people from all walks of life. And Coral is right. It's not your fault Abernathy-kun has been lazy. He just doesn't like work." Basil nodded with a smile. Abe groaned.
"I just realized, where are Zephyr and Lyra?" Abe asked.
"Zephyr and Lyra are on a request right now. They'll be back today. In fact, I think that's them." Basil answered. The doors to the guild opened up. Lyra entered with a bag with Zephyr right behind her. On his head was Sylph. He held two big sticks of dango. He had one in his mouth.
"We're back! Did you miss us?" Zeph yelled. Lyra held out her bag.
"Zephyr brought home treats. The requestors gave him a load after finishing." Lyra said. Basil clapped his hands together.
"Ahh! How sweet!" Basil expressed.
"We should eat them together! A celebration for Vi!" Zeph said, eating his dango. Basil clapped.
"Wonderful idea Zeph-kun! I'll get the guild prepared." Coral exclaimed.
"Lyra-senpai! I require assistance." Abernathy called out in a teasing tone. Lyra approached with Zeph right behind her.
"What's up Abe?" Lyra asked. Abernathy pointed to Fiora and Gideon. Lyra tilted her head.
"They look cozy enough to me. Why don't you butt in yourself?" Lyra voiced. Abernathy's mouth dropped. Lyra winked. Zeph laughed.
"Sis got you!" He blurted.
"Look. I would, but I just got back from a difficult mission involving ants. Plus, you're way better at being nosy." Abe said. Lyra smiled and waved a finger.
"Abe, I've told you time and time again. There is a fine line between nosiness and being observant." Lyra voiced. Abernathy rolled his eyes. Lyra approached Fiora and Gideon. Zephyr stayed and ate his dango.
"Oi! Fiora, Gideon, how are you two doing?" Lyra called out.
"Lyra-senpai. We're fine." Gideon greeted. Fiora pouted and crossed her arms, not giving a reply.
"And why are you grumpy today, Fiora?" Lyra asked, leaning against the bar.
"Because Master Basil has mole man busy with Viperion. Haven't been able to hang with him." Fiora voiced. Lyra tilted her head. Basil, Abernathy, and Zeph approached.
"Mole man?" Lyra asked.
"Ah, right. You haven't been given the honor of being given a nickname yet." Abe explained approaching as well. Zeph waved his sticks of dango.
"It sounds funny!" He added. Lyra looked to Basil. He chuckled and shrugged. Abernathy smiled and crossed his arms.
"You know, I'm a little jealous that only some of us has nicknames, Fiora." Basil pointed out with a smile. Fiora looked at Basil. Lyra crossed her arms, a smile on her face. Fiora thought for a second. She then grinned. Abernathy tilted his head.
"Master Basil are you trying to manipulate Fi into giving you a nickname?" He asked. Basil held his hands up defensively.
"Me? Manipulate? Ha! Why would I ever?" Basil said playfully. Fiora thought and thought. Zephyr finished his dango.
"Why not call master Basil 'plant man'? Since he can grow plants so fast!" Zephyr suggested. Lyra patted Zeph's head.
"Let's leave Fiora to the nicknaming." Lyra teased.
The front door of the guild opened, and Luna stepped through. Everyone turned to greet her, except Lyra.
"I uh, I have something I have to do. I'll catch up with you guys later." She excused herself and left toward the kitchen. Basil sighed and gave a small frown as she left. He didn't know what happened between the two of them and at the same time he didn't know what to do. That's when an idea popped into his head.
"Good morning everyone." Luna announced with a bow.
"Mornin' Luna!" Abernathy responded. Luna walked over and bowed.
"Master Basil, please forgive me for my absence. I had been working on a spell and it took a while."
"A spell? That sounds intriguing." Basil said turning to his new guild member.
"Well, not much I'm afraid. It's just been on my mind a while. I wanted to get it perfect." Luna voiced. Abe nodded his head. The mission gave her perspective to improve herself.
"I'm happy to hear that. Self-improvement is never a bad thing!" The guild master expressed. Zeph approached Luna and held out his hand.
"Hi! I'm Zephyr! Lyra's younger brother!" Zeph introduced. Abernathy face palmed. Luna bowed and chuckled.
"We've met before, Zephyr-san." She brought a hand up to lips to cover the humor. The doors to the guild hall burst open once more. Through it came a small fairy like creature.
"Ooh! You brat! You left me at home!" Sylph yelled as she fluttered over, "You left on purpose!"
"Sylph? There you are! I was wondering where you were." Zephyr said.
"Don't you dare! I saw you running off toward the guild. You knew I wouldn't be able to keep up! You jerk!" Sylph scolded, fluttering and flying around his head.
"Ok, I'm sorry! I just... didn't want to share my dango." He admitted.
"Share!? What do you mean share!?" Sylph exclaimed, landing on top of his head. Zeph pulled a stick of dango from his pocket.
"Here you go!" He said handing it to Sylph. Sylph paused and then fluttered around happily.
"Ahh! Dango!" She expressed flying off with her dango. Basil sighed.
"And that Zeph-kun is why it's best to just share." Basil stated. Abernathy patted Zeph's head.
"Master, with all due respect, that wouldn't be Zeph-kun." Abernathy expressed. Zeph rubbed the back of his head smiling cheerily.
Basil smiled before speaking, "I wanted to hear about Luna's new spell, but I have an exciting announcement to make." Basil stated, turning to everyone. Luna nodded, understanding. Abernathy raised an eyebrow.
"Announcement?" Abernathy questioned.
"What's that master?" Zeph asked.
"Coral and Abe will remember, but when I first started the guild, I had planned of a get together for the first couple of members. But, things didn't work out. However, now there are nine of us." Basil explained. He moved away from the group, while Uno, Dos, and Tres came all carrying a banner. Basil approached and unraveled it. It was a beautifully decorated sign.
"Emerald Oasis festival of flowers!" The guild master announced.
"What festival of flowers?" Abernathy voiced, tilting his head. Coral came over with a big smile.
"Ah yes. Remember Abe?" She questioned. Abe snapped his fingers.
"That's right... I skipped out on the planning." He admitted. Coral nodded sadly.
"Well, now that we have enough people, we can make it so! It'll be open to the public and other guilds." Basil explained. Luna crossed her arms.
"Emerald Oasis festival of flowers? How... beautiful master." She voiced. Abernathy crossed his arms behind his head.
"Sounds lame. Master, can't we do something more exciting? Like a festival fighting free for all?" Fiora asked getting pumped up. Gideon patted her on the head.
"Fiora. No fighting free for all." Gideon expressed. Fiora pouted and crossed her arms in annoyance. Sylph flew back over.
"That would be so exciting!" Sylph agreed flying around. Zeph nodded. Abernathy chuckled and put a hand to his face. Basil held his hands up in defense.
"Fiora that sounds like a suggestion... Though fighting would have a hard time fitting in. You see, the festival is a time where we allow the community to be involved, sell their things, share their talents, and experience Magnolia Town in a lens they couldn't before." Basil walked over to his wooden golems and grabbed the banner. He would whisper something to them to which they exited the guild and came back with pots of flowers.
"Each flower means something. And we'd get to give them out to the people. Like a gift." Basil added. Abernathy grabbed a flower.
"Huh. Flowers. Well, what does this one mean master?" Abernathy asked.
"That one means friendship." Basil explained. Abernathy thought and handed it to Zeph.
"For you. Friendship." Abernathy voiced. Zeph took it and sniffed it. He then handed it to Fiora.
"Fiora you smell it too!" He demanded. Abernathy put his hand to his face again. Basil chuckled. Zeph then handed it to Fiora.
"Smell friendship!" Zeph stated. Abernathy crossed his arms trying not laugh, failing. Basil shook his head, "Oh Zeph-kun." Fiora took it and sniffed.
"Friendship huh." She voiced. She handed it to Gideon.
Gideon would smell the flower then pass it over to Viperion.
"Here Vi." Gideon said. Viper would sniff the flower and nod.
"Friendship. Thank you." She expressed, smiling.
Basil snapped his fingers. Uno, Dos, and Tres brought a table.
"Now, you all will participate. Non-negotiable. This is going to be fun!" Basil expressed. Fiora pouted, Gideon chuckled, Coral nodded excitedly, Abernathy sighed and shook his head, Luna nodded, Lyra peeked from the kitchen, Viperion smiled, Zeph pumped his fists and Sylph flew around excitedly.
"We'll make flower crowns, wreaths, and give them to the guests." Basil voiced. Abernathy approached Basil.
"Master, what flowers symbolize the guild." Viperion asked. Basil crossed his arms in thought.
"Hmm. Flowers to symbolize the guild eh? Something bright like lavender, perhaps?" Basil expressed. Abernathy snapped his fingers.
"Sunflowers! The big happy yellow ones." Coral pointed out.
"Ooh! How about red roses. Those are bright too." Luna added. Abernathy tapped his head.
"A mix?" Gideon suggested. Basil held a hand to his chin in thought.
"To be honest, the guild doesn't have one. Something we'll need to remedy." Basil voiced. Abernathy crossed his arms behind his head.
"That settles it master. Let's figure it out." Abe voiced. Basil snapped his fingers and Uno, Dos, and Tres brought out flower arrangements.
"These are all flowers that I've cultivated in my garden. One of them might be the choice, or not. But if we choose as a guild, it'll mean that much more." Basil continued. Everyone approached. Abernathy chuckled and picked one up.
"This will be interesting." He voiced.
"Oh this is going to be so fun!" Zeph stated, grabbing a flower. Fiora sighed and rolled her eyes.
"Let's just get this over with." Fiora voiced, walking over. Everyone began to look over the arrangements. Luna approached a pot that the wood golems were bringing over. It looked peculiar. It was black and green. She grabbed the pot and examined it closer.
"Master Basil, what is this?" Luna asked. Everyone paused. Gideon raised an eyebrow. Basil walked over. As he approached he saw the plant. His voice caught in his throat before he could speak.
"This is... a flower that is very special to me." He explained.
"Why is that, master?" Gideon asked. Basil nodded, his smile fading just a bit.
"It's a flower that says that even the darkest of paths can lead to one of light." He grabbed the plant and showed it to everyone.
"This is the Twilight Lotus. A flower that is said to bloom during twilight. And when it does, it blooms for a short while and gives off a fragrance that changes from sharp and bitter to fresh earth." Basil explained. Everyone approached. Zephyr sniffed the flower.
"I like it because it looks creepy. Like Uno, Dos, and Tres master." He voiced. Sylph landed on his head.
"Master. Is that plant special for other reasons?" Coral asked. Basil nodded with a sad smile.
"I discovered it a long time ago." Basil said. Coral approached Basil. She grabbed the flower and examined it. She nodded.
"Then it is perfect. Twilight Lotus for the Emerald Oasis Guild." Coral decided. Abernathy clapped.
"I agree master. Twilight Lotus for the Emerald Oasis Guild." Abernathy expressed.
Fiora approached the flower, eyeing it closely.
"Hmm, it does look pretty badass." She admitted. Viperion approached the flower as well.
"I believe it suits the guild very well. Master Basil." Viperion expressed.
Luna approached Basil. She bowed.
"Master. I know I haven't been a part of the guild long, but... I believe this flower suits the guild very well." Luna voiced. Zeph approached and held the flower up.
"I think it's decided. Twilight Lotus for the Emerald Oasis!" He declared. Basil smiled softly and then nodded.
"Then it is so. Twilight Lotus will be the flower of the Emerald Oasis guild. Tomorrow we shall start planning the festival." Basil voiced. Abernathy cracked his neck.
"Alright, sounds good master. I'm going to go take a nap. Flower picking wore me out." He expressed. Coral clapped and smiled.
"Wonderful choice everyone. Zeph, Luna, I'm going to teach you a little about flower arranging, ok?" Coral stated. Lyra poked her head out of the kitchen. Coral's drifted over and caught her. The older member rushed over and grabbed Lyra by the arm.
"Lyra! Let's start teaching Luna and Zeph-kun flower arranging!" Coral said dragging Lyra from the kitchen.
"Doesn't it feel nice, Fi? We get to be a part of this." Gideon pointed out. Fiora huffed and crossed her arms.
"Tch. Yeah. It is." She voiced. Basil chuckled and crossed his arms.
"So. Are you interested in learning flower arranging or flower pressing Gideon?"
"I've never done anything like that before." He admitted. Basil snapped his fingers. Uno, Dos, and Tres went over with a table and supplies.
"Flower pressing it is." Basil stated. Gideon smiled and approached.
As everyone began to move about the supplies, Basil caught Coral's attention and brought her to the bar for a private conversation.
"Coral-san." Basil voiced.
"Master?"
"A request came from the Kingdom of Fiore. It requires a special touch and I thought of you. I need you to lead it as our S-Class mage. Are you up for it?" Basil expressed. Coral smiled.
"Absolutely master! But... are you sure Zephyr and Abe-san aren't better suited for S-Class quests?" Coral asked.
"After this past mission, it'll he impossible to make Abe do any work, since he'll keep using it as an excuse. And... this job isn't suited for a child like Zephyr. That's why Lyra, Luna, Vi, and Fiora will be going with you. Like I said, a special touch." Basil explained. Coral's eyes went wide.
"Three of them!? I'm excited! So who are the clients?" Coral questioned.
"There's a royal councilor. Her name is Lady Angell. But I'll go into the specifics later. I just wanted to tell you now so you can prepare. For now, take this time to show our new members a good time. You are, after all, the most senior of all the members. The first person to join the guild." Basil said with a smile. Coral nodded with a smile.
"Of course master Basil! I'd love too! And... thank you." Coral said bowing.
"There is one more thing I want to ask of you. And this is just between you and me. Ok?" Basil voiced. Coral raised her eyebrows.
"Of course master." Coral stated.
"With Viperion. Do not mention her origins. It'll complicate matters. She'll need some coaching to use her magic. But I'm sure you all will do a great job. And... I'll need you to pick up some outfits later today." The guild master said with his eyes drifting away, not wanting to make eye contact. Coral titled her head.
"Outfits?" She questioned. Basil sighed.
"Yes. It's for the mission. But don't worry. Go make this the best festival ever." Basil tone changed. Coral nodded with a big smile.
"Of course master!" Coral exclaimed, running off to help her fellow guild mates. Basil watched with a smile. As soon as Coral was out of sight, he frowned.
"I hope I didn't doom the mission. Coral is one of my best but... her anger..." Basil shook his head and his smile returned, joining the others.
After much planning and flower arranging, the guild was finally ready to put the festival of flowers together. Basil was happy. Abernathy and Zeph helped Lyra in the kitchen, Gideon, Luna, and Fiora decorated, Coral made signs and posters, and Viperion was tending to the flowers in the guild hall.
"Luna, did you talk to the local vendors?" Basil asked, holding a checklist. Luna nodded.
"They are set master." Luna expressed. Basil marked the checklist. He then heard Abernathy scream from the kitchen. Lyra emerged with an apron and flour on her face.
"Abe! I told you to HOLD the bag of flour. Was that so hard?!" Lyra scolded. Abernathy emerged wiping his face off.
"I panicked! I thought it was gonna blow!" Abernathy defended. Lyra held her hands to her hips.
"The flour bag was gonna blow? A bag of flour?!" Lyra seemed to boil. Basil stepped forward.
"Uh, you two, how about we-"
"You didn't see the way it was packed? It was just itching to blow!" Abe countered.
"W-well listen it's not that-" Basil tried.
"Your laziness must have made you dumber! You're not escaping! You're going to help!" Lyra almost blew up.
"The bag of flour was-" Basil tried once more.
"Excuse me!" Coral said loudly. She kept her usual smile, but that intensity behind it could be felt for miles.
"Is now the time to argue when our guild is trying to make a festival?" She asked, arms crossed under her breast. Both Lyra and Abernathy stopped, and their cheeks tinged a little. Lyra sighed.
"You're right Coral-senpai." She apologized. Lyra walked back into the kitchen.
"Abe, I don't think slacking off is the answer." Coral said. It felt like it could have been a question, but with the intensity coming off her, it was more of a command. Abernathy gulped. He approached Lyra.
"Fine. I'll help." Abernathy voiced, picking up an apron and going in the kitchen. Basil wiped his forehead and Coral chuckled.
"Thank you, Coral. It was hard to get a word in edgewise." Basil expressed. Coral waved it off.
"No problem master. You should know I'm here when you need it." Coral said. Basil patted her shoulder.
"I'm glad to hear it." He responded.
Fiora, Gideon, Luna, and Viperion watched the exchange.
"Is it me or was Coral... scary?" Fiora asked to the group. Gideon nodded.
"I didn't expect that side of Coral-san. Lyra and Abernathy just stopped." Viperion voiced. Luna tilted her head.
"Hmmm, she's always been like that with Abe." Luna pointed out.
"Lyra and Abe always pick on each other. Some days they're friends and other times they're enemies. And Coral-san is the one that has to deal with it." Zephyr explained. Fiora approached Luna.
"What's Lyra's deal anyway? She always avoids you." She asked. Luna shrugged.
"... Nothing worth talking about." Luna says.
Basil is at the entrance talking to a wizard council official. After some deliberation, the festival is made official and is scheduled for the weekend. Basil nods with a smile.
"Thank you Council official." Basil expresses. The official bows.
"Thank you. Enjoy your festival." The official voices before leaving. Basil stretches.
"Ah! It's happening. Our guild is happening. Oh it makes me so happy!" Basil states to Uno, Dos, and Tres who were carrying a load of decorations. Abernathy walked over.
"Yawn, you know what master would make things go by a lot faster?" He asks. Basil raises an eyebrow. Abernathy holds out his hands.
"More sleep." Abe explains. Basil face palms. Abernathy chuckles and pats the master on the back.
"Lighten up master. You're very wound up about this festival." Abernathy points out. Basil sighed.
"Abe-san. I know I seem wound up, but the guild's festival means a lot to me. That's why, even if the process is difficult, I won't rush anything." Basil expressed. Abernathy nodded.
"Alright master. That's the spirit." He voices. Lyra emerges from the kitchen. Abernathy approaches and leans on the doorway.
"Oi. Mole man. We're short on sugar. Can you go buy some?" Lyra voiced. Abernathy stood there. Lyra huffed, crossed her arms and walked over.
"You brat. Where are Gideona and Fiora?" Lyra questioned. Abernathy shrugged and yawned.
"Outside setting up with Coral-san and Luna-san." He responded. Lyra looked Abernathy up and down. She crossed her arms and huffed.
"Stop being a lazy moron and get the new guys to go shopping." Lyra ordered. Abernathy tilted his head.
"Master told me I have to babysit Zeph." Abernathy pointed out. Lyra sighed. She turned her head and saw no Zephyr to be found.
"Really?" Lyra questioned. Abernathy smirked and shrugged. Lyra sighed once more, pinching Abe's ear.
Basil walked with Zephyr.
"Master." Zephyr stated.
"Hmm?" The guild master responds looking over to the young S-Class wizard.
"Did you do this festival every year when Emerald Oasis started?" Zephyr questioned. Basil shook his head.
"It would have been nice, but no. Back then, we didn't have the members to pull it off." Basil responded. Zephyr tilted his head.
"Members to pull it off? Don't we have more than enough members now?" Zeph questioned. Basil pat the boy on the head.
"We do. That's why I'm happy that we're putting it together. Our first official event as a guild." Basil stared off in the distance, as if memories were coming back. A small smile painted his lips.
"This festival is for more than just fun. It's so that people can see that our guild means well and is a safe space. We want everyone in town to enjoy it and have fun." Basil explained. Zeph smiled.
"That sounds nice master." Zeph responded.
Lyra kicked Abernathy into the guild.
"Get up lazy moron!" Lyra demanded. Abernathy sat up on the floor.
"Why can't we get Viperion to shop? Or Luna? She's been cooped up in that kitchen." Abernathy voiced, rubbing his butt.
"Believe it or not... it would be nice for us two to have some time to talk." Lyra admitted with a slight blush on her cheeks. Abernathy raised an eyebrow. Lyra huffed and stomped her foot.
"Just shut up and let's go!" She ordered, grabbing Abernathy and dragging him out. Coral, Luna, and Fiora were watching.
"Those two will never say it out loud." Coral said with a shake of her head.
"Never say what out loud Coral-senpai?" Zeph asked approaching. Coral smiled and patted his head.
"Oh nothing. Not my place to say. How is Gideon doing with the decorating outside? I feel bad leaving it to him." Coral voiced. Zephyr shrugged.
"He said he's fine by himself." Zeph expressed. Coral clasped her hands together.
"Then let's finish so we can go back and finish with him. Come on." Coral expressed. The trio nodded and moved to finish their designated task.
Basil continued walking Zephyr.
"Tell you what. Let's head down to the plaza. I have a special job for you and Sylph. Sound good?" Basil asked. Zeph pumped his fist.
"Yeah! Sylph and I will help!" Zeph states. Sylph flew around happily.
"Let's help master, Zeph."
Upon arrival to the plaza, the liveliness of Magnolia Town became apparent. The populace walked about, buying and eating. The fountain drew numerous amounts of people to make wishes or sit by the splash of the water.
"Only ten percent of the population can use magic. And an even smaller percentage choose to use it for the right reasons." Basil explained as they arrived.
"And the rest use it for evil?" Zeph asked. Basil shook his head.
"While true. They use it in an improper manner or hurt others, they are the minority of the minority. Which is why it's up to us to show people that they are always good wizards who want to do the right thing." Basil smiled at the young wind mage.
"Your task is to advertise the festival. Go out there and use your magic to get all the attention possible. With Sylph's help, you'll put on a grand show." Basil explained. Zeph pumped his fists. Sylph flew around him.
"Alright master! This festival is going to be huge!" Zeph expressed. Sylph nodded.
"We won't let you down!" Sylph voiced. Basil pat Zephyr on the head.
"I know you won't." Basil expressed with a smile, "Go out and let Magnolia know. Make the Emerald Oasis festival a town favorite. But, I expect you two home at a decent hour, ok?"
"You got it master! Come on Sylph!" Zeph stated. The spirit and mage took to the air. Basil stood by to watch as Zephyr began.
"Ladies and gentlemen. Come see the Emerald Oasis Festival of Flowers!" Zephyr voiced. Basil watched the people stop.
"It's gonna be a festival that everyone will love. We got decorations and games. Plus, our cook is top notch! We have everything! Don't miss out!" Zeph explained. Some people began gathering.
"You've seen your fair share of magic. But now, watch as Zephyr and Sylph give you an example of a wizard at work." Sylph voiced. People gathered to see the two perform. Sylph flew in circles around Zephyr.
Zephyr summoned some air, making it glow a vibrant green. Sylph absorbed the energy. The spirit changed appearance. Her wings were larger and were in a darker shade of green.
"Let's show them Sylph!" Zeph expresses, jumping and kicking off the wind. The crowd gasped as they saw the air act like a solid. The two worked in tandem, as if knowing what the other was going to do. Basil knew he chose the right wizard. Sylph may reprimand Zephyr, but she chose the right person to use her spirit magic. And he only had room to grow. Basil knew this twelve year old would make a name for himself in the future. Basil smiled and headed back.
"Show them what Emerald Oasis is about." Basil said to himself, exiting the plaza.
Abernathy had his hands behind his head as he followed Lyra.
"What did you want to talk about?" He asked.
"How were the new members on that Fenrir Ant mission? Your assessment." Lyra asked. Abernathy rubbed his chin.
"Hmm. Fiora is incredibly strong, though very reckless. Gideon is tough, and he managed to convince one of the ants to come to our side, which was impressive. And Luna... well, she has the potential to be an amazing wizard. She wasn't as explosive or tough, but her magic was incredibly creative. The way she fought, acted, and responded in the moments we needed it was astounding." Abernathy nodded his head, his eyes drifting up recalling the mission. Lyra stopped. Abernathy tilted his head.
"Hmm, is something wrong?" He voiced.
"So... Luna held her own, huh?" Lyra asked. Abernathy nodded. Lyra clenched her hand. Abernathy raised an eyebrow.
"Oi. What's with you?" He asked. Lyra snapped out of her trance and shook her head.
"Sorry. It's nothing. I'm happy to hear that she's been improving." Lyra responded. Abernathy sighed.
"You know, you two could clear the air. I don't get the animosity between you two." He said bluntly.
"I wish. But, I don't think she'd ever want to talk to me." Lyra spoke. Her head went down, her hair covering her eyes. Abernathy pat her back.
"You could try. At the end of the festival. When everything has quieted down, you should talk." Abernathy pointed out. Lyra crossed her arms.
"Yeah, maybe. But for now, we need to buy more supplies. We're finishing ahead of schedule." Lyra voiced. He nodded. They arrived at the store.
"Ahhh, if only Coral-san was with us. She has a great knack for this type of thing." Lyra whined. Abernathy stretched and walked into the store.
"Well lucky for us, you have a pretty good eye too." He pointed out. Lyra walked into the store behind him.
"Yeah ok, you suck up. Come on." She stated. Abernathy chuckled as Lyra dragged him in.
Fiora finished placing a flower up. Gideon wiped his brow.
"Ok. I think this is good Fi." He complimented.
"Huh. Who knew I had a talent for decorating." Fiora beamed.
"Fiora-san... that does not go there." Luna stated. Fiora pouted.
"Whatttt, Blink?" Fiora voiced. Coral put a flower in and smiled.
"There. A bit better." The older wizard spoke. The inside and outside of the guild was arranged with numerous flowers.
"Where does master get all these plants?" Gideon asked. Coral approached, putting a flower behind the earth wizards ear.
"He grows them all. That's the amazing thing about master Basil. He cultivates these plants. Then, he uses them for the guild, or sells them for money, or makes the perfect festival." Her eyes closed and her smile was as kind as ever. Luna looked Coral up and down. Coral noticed and tilted her head.
"Is something the matter?" The water wizard asked. Luna shook her head.
"Nothing's wrong Coral-senpai. I guess I never realized how much the guild means to you." Luna expressed. Coral nodded.
"Master Basil welcomed me when I had nowhere to go. He had just opened the guild and I became the first member. I'm happy to be able to learn and be a part of this guild." Coral expressed. Gideon approached.
"Well you've been a member for a long time. You probably know the most about Basil-san. What's he like behind closed doors?" The earth mage questioned.
"Closed doors? Hmm, I guess he's not that much different than he is now. However, I can't help to think there's more to him." Coral expressed, tapping her chin. Gideon tilted his head. Fiora jumped into the mix.
"Oh come on senpai. Basil-san is all shy and soft spoken. He wouldn't hurt a fly. No way he has some dark side." Fiora expressed. Coral shook her head.
"No Fiora, that's not what I mean. I feel like master Basil has more depth. His kindness is always there. No matter the day or time. But the way he cares for these plants, you can feel there's more to him." Coral pointed out. Fiora placed her hands behind her back.
"Maybe Coral-senpai is seeing something none of us see." Luna voiced, crossing her arms. Gideon nodded. Viperion joined the conversation.
"Coral-san, everything is set. I believe we can now 'kick back', as Abernathy-san says." Viperion voiced. Coral pat the ant on the back.
"Very good Vi! Now, why don't you enjoy some sunlight. We can take things from here. Oh! And Luna-san, please make some tea?" Coral requested. Luna nodded. Viperion exited and laid in the sun. She laid in one of the beach chairs, showing off a voluptuous humanoid body. Gideon blushed.
"I-I'll head in and help Luna." He voiced, going inside. Coral smiled and approached Fiora.
"Fi-chan, you can rest too." She expressed. Fiora exhaled loudly and collapsed in the chair next to Viperion. She looked over and saw the shape of her body.
"You know Vi, you'd be pretty popular with the guys out there." She spoke. Coral raised an eyebrow. Viperion tilted her head.
"Fiora-san... do human males prefer women with a body like this?" Viperion questioned.
"Oh! They go crazy! Some might down right lose their minds. Hell, I can understand why too." Fiora voiced. Coral sat next to them. Viperion crossed her arms.
"Why would males prefer such bodies?" Viperion questioned. Coral tried to chime in, trying to find a way to properly explain it.
"Well Vi-chan, it's something we humans desire to mate and continue the species. Our bodies are... uh, how can I explain it?" Coral stated. Fiora jumped up, her fire burning as she got passionate.
"Hell yeah! Men are idiots that only care about a good looking girl's body. You get to control them with-" Fiora began but felt the killer pressure that Coral was exuding behind her smile. Fiora sweat dropped and sat back down, "Uhh never mind Vi."
"Humans are very strange. I don't think my body should be the determining factor." Viperion voiced. Coral placed a hand on her cheek.
"Humans are complicated creatures. Especially the men. But, you shouldn't rush to understand us. You've only been with us a couple of days. Slowly, you'll get to understand humans, and you'll get to share that with your species whenever you go back to visit. Ok?" Coral explained. Viperion nodded with a smile. Luna and Gideon came out with tea.
"Tea is served." She voiced. Lyra and Abernathy emerged with groceries. Zephyr appeared with sweat on his forehead and Sylph sprawled on his shoulder.
"Advertising is hard." Zeph stated collapsing into a chair. Abernathy chuckled, walking over and patting the kid on the head.
"Job well done. Master should be happy." Abernathy voiced. Luna handed Zeph a cup of tea. Luna began to hand out tea to everyone else. As she came to Lyra, she placed it on the table without further acknowledgement. Lyra looked Luna up and down, a small pout forming on her face. Luna looked up and saw the look.
"Yes?" Luna questioned. Lyra looked away.
"N-nothing." Was all she could say. The guilt weight heavily on Lyra, not being able to keep eye contact. Luna walked away. Fiora raised an eyebrow. Lyra sighed and leaned back on her seat, crossing her arms. Coral approached.
"My, we've made amazing progress. Several more days of work and we'll be set and ready! I can't wait." Coral voiced, sitting on the chair next to Lyra. Lyra nodded.
"Neither can I. The sooner this is done, the better." She responded. Abernathy chuckled and sat in front of Coral and Lyra.
"Hey. We should go out after this. Celebrate and unwind." Abernathy pointed out. Zeph jumped up, sweating.
"Yeah! Let's all go out!" Zeph stated.
"If they go to a bar, you can't go, Zeph." Sylph reminded. Zeph deflated and slumped. Fiora chuckled and pat the kid on the head.
"You're a kid. Stay home and get some sleep. You deserve it after advertising all over town."
Finally, Basil walked through the guild doors.
"My guild members being chummy. It's quite the sight for a guild master to see. Oh how nice this is." Basil expressed. Abernathy nodded. Lyra crossed her arms.
"It is nice master. But, you have to do your part." Lyra pointed out.
"Oh?" Basil asked. Lyra nodded.
"You'll need to come up with a speech. The festival can't officially start if the guild master doesn't say anything to start it." She explained. Basil tapped his chin.
"Hmmm, I suppose you're right. I'll think of something. I won't let the guild down." Basil voiced.
The day of the festival arrived. The pier area of Magnolia was covered in flowers. Vendors lined the walkways while music was playing all around. At the entrance of the festival was Fiora and Viperion passing out information pamphlets. They each wore a dress that showed cleavage and plenty of leg.
"Damnit. Why did I have to wear this? I hate dresses." Fiora expressed while trying to adjust herself.
"Coral-san said that we looked lovely." Viperion spoke. Fiora sighed and shook her head.
"Some girls have it all. The dress looks good on them, they look good in anything, and they are nice and kind. I can't hate them, but still..." She muttered to herself.
Many guests passed by for the information, however...
"Whoa! Hey there cutie. I haven't seen you around before. Are you free after this?" A male wizard said with several of his buddies. They surrounded Viperion giving her extra attention.
"Oh, hello. My name is Vi. I am a member of the Emerald Oasis guild. It is nice to meet you." She responded with a smile.
"Oh so you're a wizard? No kidding. I knew there was something about you." The male wizard said, trying to be smooth. Their eyes wandered up and down Viperion's body. However, Viperion was not too familiar with the human ritual of flirting.
"You are very kind. Are all of you wizards as well? I don't believe I have seen you at the guild." Viperion pointed out. The boys smirked and crossed their arms.
"You must not get out much. But, that's ok. You just got to know the right people. Like us. I'm sure the guild master wouldn't mind if we took you out." Another one of the wizards added.
"Oh no, I shouldn't. I'm supposed to pass out these pamphlets." She countered. Fiora was on the other side, scowling at the scenario.
"Come on! We won't take you for long~. We'll take you around and have some fun. We'll even pay for your drinks." The mage said, getting closer. Viperion shook her head.
"I appreciate the offer, but I'll have to decline. I must work." Viperion replied.
"I see. You must not know who I am. Fellas? Why don't you introduce us?" The center wizard said. This wizard was blonde with a beauty mark next to his eye.
"We are from the notorious, amazing, well-known, all around best guild in Magnolia." Explained one.
"We've taken down crooks! We've beaten down mooks, and we have good looks." Said another.
"We are from the wizard guild, Shiny Knights! And this is our number one wizard, Theodore-sama!" They all clapped as the blonde wizard stepped forward.
"There! Now you must remember~." He said while flipping his hair.
Viperion crossed her arms under her breast and placed a finger in her cheek. With a tilt of her head she responds, "No, I haven't heard of you."
Theodore's jaw dropped. His friends sweat dropped as their jaws were also dropping.
"Ah, but that is fine. I just joined the guild. I haven't had a chance to learn of all the guilds." She quickly adds.
"O-of course. Understandable. But, back to our offer. Come, all we want is to get to know you-" before he could finish his shoulder was grabbed and was spun hard. Fiora's eyes had fire in them.
"You must be deaf as well as stupid. She said she wasn't interested!" Fiora stated.
"Hey! Listen here-" Before he could respond, Fiora punched him in the stomach. She then slammed his head onto the ground. The other two wizards didn't know how to react.
"If you got a problem, name's Fiora! Part of Emerald Oasis. Now grab your idiot-sama and scram!" She yelled. The wizards picked up their friend and ran off. Fiora growled.
"Amateurs! And to think, they call themselves a guild." She spoke.
"Fiora-san, that was so cool! I mean, I don't know what was happening, but to see a human female hold her own like that was inspiring. I too wish to slam the heads of others into the ground." She admitted giddy. Fiora's face changed from anger to pride.
"Hell yeah! Screw guys. They're all idiots with one thought in their heads." She stated. Viperion approached the fire mage.
"Fiora-san. You were defending me. But, what is the thought these males think of?" Viperion asked. Fiora waved her off.
"D-don't worry about it." She said quickly with a change in tone.
"Yeah, what is that thought us guys think about?" Gideon asked walking up to the pair.
"Gideon-san! Your outfit is dashing. At least, that's what Coral-san said." Viperion complimented. Gideon was dressed in a formal suit, but instead of a tie, he had a bow around his neck.
"Thanks Vi. You look stunning yourself. I guess the guys couldn't help but notice." Gideon said. Fiora groaned.
"Ugh. I don't care if she's an ant. It's the principle of the thing. No guy should hit on a woman like that." Fiora said with disgust, "They're lucky I couldn't burn them to a crisp."
"Sounds like the spirit of the festival has did its job and pacify your need to set things on fire." Gideon said with a smirk. Fiora rolled her eyes.
"Shut up mole man." She voiced.
"By the way, Luna and I have the entrance stage ready. We're waiting for the guild master's speech." Gideon stated. Fiora and Viperion nodded.
"Alright. I guess we'll head in." Fiora stated. Gideon nodded and walked in. Fiora turned to Viperion.
"Next time any guys hit on you like that, assume it's not for good reasons." Fiora explained.
"Thank you Fiora-san. I will remember that. It is a good lesson for me to learn." Viperion said.
The two of them walked in, ready to kick off the festival.
The pier was densely packed. Fiora and Viperion made their way to a stage set up just next to the guild. On it stood Coral and Lyra.
"Hello everyone! I am Coral Crest, a member of Emerald Oasis. We are happy to be able to host such a wonderful event!" Her voice was being magically amplified. "Our guild master, Basil Greenbloom, wanted to share the wonders of flowers during this spring. As you look all around you, every single bouquet and arrangement you see was grown and donated by our guild master. If you are interested in taking them home, approach me after this." Coral wore a dress that was the colors of the ocean, which was her usual go to arrangement of colors. Lyra stepped forward to speak next.
"Emerald Oasis is a fairly new guild, only made several years ago. But, already it feels like our home. I'm sure as you experience the festival, you will feel that way too. Now, without further ado, our guild master, Basil Greenbloom!" Lyra announced. The crowd erupted into an orchestra of cheers and applause. Basil stepped onto the stage, a piece of paper in hands. He nodded and rubbed the back of his head, becoming very bashful.
"Thank you. Thank you all so much. My guild members are some of the most amazing and talented people I know. The only reason this was all possible is due to their hard work." Basil looked a bit nervous as he spoke and looked to the paper in his hand several times. "The flowers I've grown have always been meant to be shared. To me, flowers are truly the most fascinating members of life. Like wizards, they come in all shape and sizes. They can be used for many different things from cooking, to healing, and to brighten up someone's day. So, I hope that the other guild masters of Magnolia will join me in a toast of sorts. To our guilds, that they are our family and home!" Basil expressed, raising his hand in the air. The crowd cheered and the festivities began.
Luna, Gideon, Fiora, Viperion, Zephyr, Lyra, Abernathy, and Coral stood in a line, welcoming the people into the festival, standing in front of the stage. It was a surreal feeling, being able to say that they helped put a festival together for their guild.
"I cannot believe we were able to pull this off." Luna said. The others nodded.
"Well, it wasn't easy. I can't wait to eat and drink my fill." Zeph spoke. Gideon chuckled.
"What's stopping you? I think we should be able to do whatever we want. It's our day too." Gideon voiced. Abernathy nodded.
"I agree. I'm gonna go explore and see what there is to do." He said, walking off. Gideon and Fiora went off to play some of the games that were set up.
Day became night and the pier was cleared of the celebration. During that time, Viperion was courted several more times, Abernathy was caught every time he tried to escape his duties, Coral served her famous kebabs, and Fiora almost burned down the festival. Basil sat in his office as everyone left to go home. He stared at the Twilight Lotus. His mind drifted to the past. He remembered the day he found this flower and how it inspired him to do better.
"Uno, what do you think? Was this a good choice to be our official flower? It represents the guild well." Basil voiced. Uno looked at the flower with its empty eyes. It nodded, signaling its agreement.
"I'm glad you agree. I'm not sure if it's destiny or something else. Didn't think this flower would come up again after so long." Basil stated. Uno moved closer, looking at the flower. Basil chuckled and patted its head.
"Now that the festival is over, you can rest." He told the golem. It nodded and returned to its place, going into a hibernation mode. Basil stretched and stood.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Emerald Oasis." He spoke as he turned off the lights. He headed to his room in the guild, ready for a peaceful night.
