Chapter 2
It was 11:00pm, Shinji's high wore off and he started on his way home. He wobbled into the apartment and almost fell over due to being high and being super tired. He thought he was in the clear until Asuka turned on the light.
"Where have you been?" She quietly yelled, "I've been worried sick all night! You haven't answered my calls" She paused, her voice softened, "I thought you got hurt."
"Asuka, i'm so sorry" Shinji began
"Wait a minute" Asuka said, cutting Shinji off, "What is that smell"
'Oh crap!' Shinji thought 'She can probably smell the weed'
"Is that" Asuka said, moving closer to Shinji to smell better, "Weed?"
"What?" Shinji yelped, "That's impossible where would I get weed from?"
"Shinji Ikari, have you been smoking weed?" She firmly asked.
Shinji froze, he didn't know what to say. No matter what he said he'd get an earful from Asuka. But he was quiet for too long, Asuka had figured it out.
"And here I was thinking you were better than this" She said, disappointed and crossing her arms
"Asuka please" Shinji said, but he was interrupted by the enraged german.
"No Shinji!" Asuka shouted "I can't believe you went out doing drugs! Especially with those two idiots, Toji and Kensuke! You could have gotten hurt, an angel could have shown up, I could have gotten sick and you would have been too high to do anything!"
"Asuka I'm sorry I really am" Shinji said, "I gave into peer pressure and I feel like an idiot. I know I made you worry and I feel awful."
Asuka was surprised. She shouldn't be since Shinji apologizes for everything, but something about this time was different. His apologies always seemed sincere but this one was special, she felt warm inside.
"Okay okay" She finally said as Shinji was rambling on about how horrible he is. "I forgive you" She said in a not so convincing voice, "Just don't let it happen again or you're dead" She snarled.
Shinji was shocked that Asuka had forgiven him so quickly, usually it takes 3 weeks and a full course meal cooked just for her in order for him to be forgiven. But he decided to ignore it and be happy that he'd been spared from Asuka's wrath.
"Alright" Asuka began, "Let's go to bed, it's late."
"Good idea." Shinji said.
They held hands and walked down the hall. They made it to Shinji's room, which could be considered to be their room since Asuka sneaks in there to sleep with Shinji almost every night.
Shinji opened the door, they both cuddled under the sheets for a bit, and they fell asleep.
A couple of days passed, nothing too interesting happened. Shinji's teacher got better and Gendo was no longer his teacher. Shinji and Asuka's relationship was good as usual, all was well in the city of Tokyo-3. Suddenly an alarm went off throughout the city. The 14th angel, Zeruel, appeared in Tokyo-3. Asuka, Shinji, Rei and Toji were rushed to Nerveto get in their Eva units and fight off the angel. They all got in an elevator to get up to the Evas . Shinji looked at Toji, This was the first time Toji has been in an Eva ever since the accident with Unit 03. Luckily nothing bad happened, Shinji managed to pull out the entry plug without harming Toji, and then proceeded to dismantle Unit 03. SInce then, Nerv has made repairs to Unit 03 and made sure that it was safe for Toji to pilot it. Toji was visibly nervous about getting back into the Evangelion, worried that another accident would happen. "It's gonna be okay Toji" Shinji said, "The people at Nerv would never purposefully let something happen to you." "Thanks Shin man" Toji said, "I'll do my best to help you guys out there." "I'm sure you'll do a great job." Shinji said with a smile. " "Yeah but I'll do even better!" Asuka butted in, "After all, my Evangelion is the first official model." She said with confidence. "Says the lady who hasn't defeated an angel since the 6th one showed up, and even then you needed Shinji's help" Toji said with a smirk. Asuka stood in shock, she was very insecure about that and Toji was relentless. "Okay Toji that was a bit mean" Shinji said, "Asuka seems a bit irritated, would you be so kind as to apologize?" Shinji politely asked. "Ugh fine!" Toji groaned "Asuka i'm very sorry for what I said." he said, clearly not meaning it. Asuka turned her head away and said nothing. The elevator finally reached the top and the children all got in their designated Eva units. They were then shot up the launch ports and were met by the angel. The four evas split up to attack and the battle began.
Unit 00 and Unit 03 took off to the left and right while Unit 01 and Unit 02 charged down the middle towards the angel. Units 03 and 00 were met by the strongest AT they've ever come against. They each tried slashing at it with their ptog knives but it had little effect. Shinji and Asuka charged in and were both knocked back by the powerful AT field. Shinji pulled out a rocket launcher and Asuka pulled out a pallet rifle. They fired every bit of ammo they had at the angel while furiously dodging its swift attacks. Suddenly as Toji was hopelessly slashing at the AT field, the angel attacked him, but Toji reacted too late and the angel chopped off his right arm. Toji let out a blood curdling scream. "Rei go help Toji" Shinji demanded. Rei rushed over to help Toji but was interrupted when both of her arms were cut off by the angel. Toji sat and watched Shinji and Asuka struggle against the angel. Toji had to do something, he looked over his shoulder and saw an N2 mine. He rushed over and grabbed it. He then proceeded to charge towards the angel with the N2 mine. "Toji stop!" Shinji shouted, "You'll be blown up too!" "Are you kidding me?" Toji snarled, "I've seen how much these things can take, I think I'll be fine!" Toji made it to the angel using all of his strength to push the N2 mine though the AT field. Shinji went over to try and help Toji by pulling the AT field apart, Asuka stayed behind and continued to go through multiple pallet rifles and rocket launchers in an effort to try and stun the angel. Eventually Toji managed to push the N2 mine through the AT field. Toji pushed Shinji away from the blast and everything went white for a second. As the dust cleared Shinji and Asuka saw that the angel was unphased and continued to attack Asuka and Shinji. Shinji was still knocked down from the explosion, he looked to his left and saw Unit 03. It seemed to be in relatively good condition. "Thank goodness." he thought, "I guess these things are kind of indestructible." He then looked over to see Asuka being tossed through the air by the angel, it then turned to Shinji and started viciously hitting him, over and over again until Unit 01's core was exposed. Shinji then thought, ' I can't die here, there are people depending on me. Rei, Toji , Asuka.' Unit 01 then sprung up and punched the angel, the angel flew back and crashed into a mountain. Unit 01's eyes were glowing red and it was heavily breathing. Shinji's sync rate was over 400%. Shinji was furious, he slowly walked towards the angel and tore it apart, limb from limb. Unit 01 let out a mighty roar and began to devour the angel. Everyone at Nerv watched in horror as angel blood splattered everywhere. Asuka watched, "Oh my god" She said, her voice trembling, "Shinji!" Unit 01 then roared for a while, then it powered down and collapsed to the ground. Asuka rushed out of Unit 02 and violently opened Unit 01's entry plug. Shinji was lying unconscious but soon woke up and saw Asuka. "Did we do it?" he asked. Asuka teared up "Yes Shinji." her voice quaking, "Yes we did." She gave Shinji a hug and they began to kiss. Up on the far away mountains, someone was watching them. "Interesting, yes very interesting." said a smooth calm voice, "I can't wait to finally meet you, Shinji."
