I don't pay attention to the distance that you're running

Baba's eyes widened when she saw Lady Moon's mother walking down the hall.

"Lady Inukimi!" She bowed deeply. The demoness stopped and looked down. "I hear you have run into some trouble my son's house guest,"

Baba, an older demon than the moon demoness herself, looked up. She was much shorter. "He brings a Miko, giving her a rule; I must admit I am confused as to what I am to do?"

"Quiet the disrespectful pup, is he not?"

"My Lady, I would never-"

"Come now; you discipline him much in his youth,"

Yeah, but he was a full-grown man with the power to kill you where you stand.

Inukimi smirked. "I have come to aid in this matter, but fear not, it is temporary as my son seeks to fill the position properly,"

Baba's shoulders loosened with the good news. "We thank you for your presence, my Lady; shall I show you the way?"

"No need, I can feel the hum of her power," With that, she made her way to find the little Miko, her son so kept.

She found her sitting in the kitchen, among those running around to gather and prepare food for the now two humans who lived here. Normally, the kitchen was not an active place, used merely when one wanted to eat for pleasure or when it was necessary for strength. Kagome was reading a book.

"For a Miko, you are blissfully comfortable around demons and unaware of your surroundings,"

Kagome snapped her head up and blinked in shock.

His mother raised one elegant eyebrow.

"Hello," Kagome said, stunned.

"The Lady of this house would stand and bow in greeting Miko,"

Kagome stood and bowed, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. "Im not really, though,"

"Yet it is the title given to you; do you truly not care?"

Kagome blushed slightly. "Im not used to this,"

"Apparently, do you always let your guard down?"

"Am I in danger here?"

"Miko, you could always be in danger, especially here,"

"Noted," She said, swallowing.

"I see your state of dress as improved; that is good," She began to walk around Kagome. "I can smell your power, though Im sure it is just a mere snack,"

Kagome watched the demoness walk around her, "Um, Pardon but-

"I am here to aid Baba,"

"Baba, oh, you mean the bat lady,"

"Bat lady?"

"Long story,"

"Do refrain from calling her that; it is not proper Miko,"

"Kagome," Kagome stated,

They looked at each other,

"My name is Kagome,"

"I know your name, who you are, what you did, what is deep inside you,"

Kagome took a step back.

"Regardless if I like it, you have earned respect and I will not underestimate you," InuKimi leaned in "But do not underestimate me,"

Oh, she wasn't.

"I am here to teach you what it is to be the Lady until such time that my son has found a suitable mate to take the place,"

"Sesshomaru is looking for a wife!"

InuKimi looked at her flat "Do you always address him so?"

"Yeah?" She said slowly, and his mother made a note to speak to him about it later.

"A mate girl,"

"Right a mate, wow!"

Inukimi crossed her arms,

"But why give me a title at all then?"

"I simply refuse, and the West must have a Lady in its active state,"

"Why me?"

"It would seem my son trusts you," She actually could not fault him on that. She wasn't the worse choice.

"And he feels you need to train as you will one day rule your own house,"

Kagome blushed,

"I assume he feels he owes you that much; you should be grateful,"

"I am, I'm just-

Inukimi put up her hand. "That is why I am here, and I will not be as kind as Baba,"

Kagome cringed and made a mental not to snap at her demon friends about surprise visit from one's mother.
