Chapter 5
Mark waited in the squad car as Jackie emerged from the donut shop with a big box of goodies. She grinned from ear-to-ear as she made her way back to the car with the prize box of sweets. She climbed back inside and balanced the treasure on her lap.
"Why are we brining donuts to the base again?" he asked her.
"The Colonel requested some." she cheered.
"Oh' boy." he sighed and started towards the base. He spoke candidly, "I ah…got a little issue I think you should know about."
"What's that?" she asked concerned.
He confessed, "It's kind of my fault. I'm kind of impressed with how good of a cop you are and I have been telling my wife about you a lot lately."
"Okay," she shrugged.
He winced, "Well…last night she accused me of having an affair with you."
"What?" she asked flabbergasted.
"So…to prove I was not having an affair with you…I kind of sorta…told her you were a lesbian." he confessed.
She growled, "That's a lot."
"It gets better." he winced. "You see…Sam doesn't have a guy and since she always turns down my offers to fix her up, Maggie kind of suspects she might be a lesbian and after she found out that Sam spent the night at your house…she is now convinced you and Sam are a couple."
She asked concerned, "Did you straighten her out on that?"
He admitted, "No…if I do then she will think I'm in love with you and leave me. Actually, you can kind of help us Carter's out. You see dad told me that Sam is love with Jack…the Colonel…but due to regulations that can't be together. You can kind of be cover for them since your name is Jackie…" he suggested rather idiotically.
"That is stupid!" she told him. "This is the very reason I do not date cops. We're all nuts." She then asked, "Does your sister know that your wife now thinks she is a lesbian?"
"Oh' god no." he confessed. "You know how awkward family get together would be then? It would be like an elephant in the room."
"Your family is nuts." she declared.
He sighed, "If you want to put in for a new partner, I understand."
She laughed, "Your family is also entertaining as hell. You want Sam and me to hold hands and crap when we go to your house?"
"You are more nuts than I am." he declared. "You will get me in deep shit with both my wife and my sister."
"Hey, reap what ya sow." she smirked at him.
Soon he arrived at the base and parked where instructed. They were then escorted into the mountain by security and to an elevator. The pair stood on the elevator in uniform by a young Military Police Officer as Jackie held the box of donuts.
She looked to the young guard, "Does the base have good donuts?"
He candidly replied, "Not bad but those smell fresher. Ours tend to get a bit stale." He then asked, "After my service can I get a job at the city police department?"
Mark stated, "You will still have to go through the Academy, son."
"They pay good?" he asked.
"Better than average." he agreed.
"I'll think about it." he stated.
Jackie asked, "How far down does this elevator go?"
"Twenty eight floors, ma'am." he told her.
She winced, "That's deep."
"Yes it is, ma'am." he agreed.
She asked, "Hey…does the military take commission officers for security? I'm thinking of changing jobs and getting a new partner." she threw a dirty look to her partner.
Mark rolled his eyes.
"I think so, ma'am." he pondered unsure.
She smirked at Mark, "I'll have to check that out."
"We all make mistakes." he countered.
"Telling your wife that I am a lesbian so she won't think we are having an affair is a big ass mistake." she informed.
"I never said I was perfect." he pleaded.
The young man listened in rather amused.
She shook her head, "She is convinced I'm your sister Sam's lover."
The young man listed with peaked interest.
"How does your sister put up with you, Mark Carter?" she huffed annoyed.
The young man then pondered if Major Carter was a lesbian.
The lift came to a halt and the door slid open to reveal Jack standing with Sam to greet the pair. Sam spied the donuts and knew Jackie bought them as a favor to Jack. She softened in expression, "You didn't have to do that." She took the donut box as Jackie walked off and gave her a slight hug of appreciation for the base donuts tended to be stale.
To get even with her partner she decided to play it up a bit. Jackie replied, "Ah, honey you deserve it." She threw an annoyed look to Mark.
The young guard walked away with his eyes wide as he figured Major Carter was a lesbian and her lover was a city cop. He couldn't wait to tell his friends the new rumor.
Sam was oblivious to the situation and just assumed Jackie was being friendly and kind. Jack however found it strange and awkward.
Mark changed the subject, "Dad coming in today?"
"He is." she assured.
He asked, "By plane?"
"Not quite." she grinned happy to finally show him the Gate. "This way." she motioned for them to follow.
Jackie was still upset with Mark so she decided to walk by Jack as Sam escorted her brother. She looked up at him, "How is Jon doing?"
"He's fine." he replied.
"I can't tell you how much I appreciate your son being friends with Danny. He's really helped him. He actually wants to try out for hockey this year. I usually have to push him into sports." she told him. "He has such trouble making friends. I'm so grateful for Jon."
"I'll let him know." Jack assured.
She mentioned, "Your son looks so much like you it's like he's carbon copy. You must be very proud of him."
He confessed, "He gets on my nerves."
She paused, "I know some kids can get on your nerves at times." She strained for Jack didn't seem like a proud parent to her. "But our kids are our lives."
"He wishes he could live my life." he told her. "Wants my truck, my house, my job…" he miffed.
She assumed, "He must idolize you."
"No…he's just me." he confessed.
Jackie soured as Jack seemed to not take Jon's welfare to heart much. She insisted, "He's a great kid."
He smirked, "Just keep telling him that."
Meanwhile
Daniel sat wringing his hands together in the briefing room as he waited for Sam and Jack to escort the Officers. He was obviously nervous and Teal'c observed the wet palms.
Janet sat at the table and assured him, "Just calm down. It will be fine."
He gulped, "What do I even say to her? Sorry that I just left like that after you busted your big case."
"It was sixteen years ago, Daniel." she soothed. "I'm sure she has regrets too."
General Hammond stepped into the room after getting off the phone in his office. He stated, "I pulled up Jackie's record from her days in the F.B.I.. She specialized in the occult and cult followings." he informed. "She was very good at it from what I was told."
Daniel stated, "She was really interested in my Ancient Alien theory and Ancient Civilizations, especially Egypt. She said she wanted to go there and see it someday." he recalled. He then kicked himself, "I should have brought her with me." He could hear the voices in the hallway as the officers were escorted to the briefing room. He sucked a deep breath and held it as he watched Sam escort her brother through the door followed by Jack who walked with Jackie. He held his breath unsure what to say.
Jackie's eyes settled on Daniel. She came to a halt as she did not expect to ever see him again. Time seemed to stand still for just a moment as the pair looked upon one another. The room fell silent as all eyes were on the couple.
Janet nudged Daniel, "Breathe." She whispered to him.
He exhaled and took another deep breath. He rose to his feet, "Jackie!" he spoke as he approached. He shook unsure how she would react to seeing him once more. Would she slap him for leaving without even saying goodbye?
Her face soften and a slight smile crept across. She gathered herself, "Daniel."
He stood rather nervous, "You look good."
"So do you. You work here?" she asked him.
He nodded and pushed his glasses up, "I'm contract with the military." He stood nervously before her.
She leaned in and wrapped her arms around him and held him close, "It's good to see you again." she told him.
He found his arms around her as he pulled her closer. He closed his eyes as that summer came rushing back over him like a wave of memories. He admitted, "I missed you."
"I missed you too." she whispered.
The moment was then broken when Jon walked into the room sporting green battle dress. "Oh' what the hell? Don't tell me!" he figured that Daniel must be Danny's father.
Jackie turned and spied Jon, "Aren't you supposed to be in school?" she asked concerned.
"I was asked to come in." he told her and then took a seat where Jack would normally sit.
Jack huffed, "Get out of my chair!"
"You can sit someplace else." he barked back.
"Move it!" Jack huffed annoyed with his clone.
"No!" he refused.
Jackie couldn't believe how the pair seemed to fight. "Um…" she had a worried expression on her face.
Daniel soothed, "It's okay. They always fight like that."
"That's not good." she told him. "Am I going to be getting domestic calls for them?"
Jack sat across from his clone. He stated, "Don't worry. We won't kill each other or call the cops."
"Um…" she grew wide-eyed still in Daniel's arms.
He motioned, "Come on, sit down Jackie." He led her to the table to sit beside himself.
Jackie greeted, "Teal'c. It's good to see you again."
"As you, OfficerGarrett." he replied.
Mark greeted, "Hey Teal'c."
He nodded, "OfficerCarter."
George introduced, "I'm General George Hammond. I need both you Officers to sign this agreement." He placed a paper before each police officer.
Mark looked to Sam, "Should I sign this?"
She nodded and watched as he scribbled his name.
Jackie started to read the paper carefully.
Jack looked at her, "Just sign it."
"You have to read these things carefully." she rebutted.
Hammond assured, "It's just your standard nondisclosure agreement."
"Which is a gag order." she informed.
Jack sighed, "She worse than Daniel."
He smirked, "Who do you think taught me to read the fine print, Jack?"
"I cannot disclose whatever it is you are about to disclose to me." she summarized. "Or I will go to jail."
"Many government departments share similar agreements." Hammond reminded her.
Mark urged, "Just sign it, Jackie."
She glared at him, "Considering what you told your wife about me, I question your judgment."
Sam came to attention, "What did Mark tell Maggie about you?" she asked.
"Apparently, she's little jealous and accused Mark of having an affair with me so he lied and told her that I'm a lesbian." she explained.
Sam gasped and looked to her brother, "Mark!" She was rather disappointed that he lied to his wife about his partner.
He rolled his eyes, "Why did we go there?"
Jackie asked, "You gonna tell Sam the rest?"
He barked, "No!"
"Tell me what?" Sam demanded to know.
She explained, "Now Maggie things you and I are a couple."
Sam glared at Mark, "What?"
"I'll straighten it out." he promised.
Janet teased, "Now I'm jealous. The base rumor mill has me and Sam and the lesbian lovers."
Tired of rumors Sam rolled her eyes.
Jack added, "You should hear what the rumor mill has about Daniel."
He perked up, "What do they have about me?"
"Nothing." he shook his head for to Jack it was not worth repeating.
Hammond urged, "The sooner you sign the paper the sooner we can continue, Officer Garrett."
"You do need to sign it." Daniel admitted.
She let out a sigh and signed the paper and then handed it to the General.
He cheerfully took the papers. "Now we can continue." He then directed, "Why don't you two Officers take a look out that window."
Jackie and Mark both stood up and wandered over to the window. Down below they spied the large ring.
Mark asked, "What is that thing, Sammy?"
She came to his side and explained, "That is how dad comes home. It's called a Star Gate and it creates a wormhole that connects on planet to another. Dad is off world right now and will be dialing back in about a half hour. You will get to see him come back through it."
Jackie asked, "Does this thing have anything to do with the Ba'al cult?"
Sam nodded, "Yes it does."
Mark grinned, "You mean we can go to other planets. Dad is on another planet?"
She nodded, "He is!"
"This is so cool." he told her. "Do we get to meet aliens?"
"You already have." she informed.
Mark asked, "Who?"
She motioned to Teal'c.
Teal'c stated, "I am Jaffa."
He gasped wide-eyed, "Oh wow!"
Jackie looked up at Daniel, "What else is the government hiding?"
Jon spoke up, "Me!"
She asked him, "What?"
Janet explained, "The reason why Jon looks so much like Colonel O'Neill is because he is Colonel O'Neill. He's a clone of the Colonel but he didn't mature to the proper age. He has all of the Colonel's memories and knowledge. He will grow normal but retain the Colonel's mind."
"We can just clone people?" she asked alarmed.
Jack shook his head, "Asgard."
"Norse mythology?" she asked.
Daniel stated, "The Ancient Alien theory is right. My theory is right. Our ancient religions are formed by alien encounters. The Asgard are our friends. Ba'al is a Goa'uld and they are not our friends."
She felt overwhelmed, "So…I didn't get away from Ba'al by moving here. I went out of the frying pan and into the fire."
Daniel assured, "We didn't know Ba'al was on the planet until you brought us that information. He got past us. He's been here a year and we will need help neutralizing him."
Mark confessed, "My mind is blown."
Sam turned to him and stated frankly, "I'm telling Dad what you said to Maggie."
He begged, "Don't tell Dad."
