WARNING! POTENTIAL BLOOD, LANGUAGE, AND GORE!
The crowds roared out as the Gods and Humans were tied 6-6. The final battle was set. The Gods were in high hopes as one of their most potent fighters was last up to the plate. The humans knew that if they lost, they'd all be wiped out, but they did not pray or beg but instead cheered louder than even the Gods as in their minds they had already won this battle. But before the match could take place a major change of events was about to transpire as both sides looked to come out of Ragnarok the victor
"HUH?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE NOT GOING TO FIGHT?!" Brunhilde asked enraged, "YOU DO REALIZE THAT I CAN'T REPLACE YOU THIS LATE?! AND EVEN IF I COULD THERE IS NO WAY I COULD FIND A FIGHTER STRONG ENOUGH TO DEFEAT ANUBIS!"
Michel laughed at her statement, "Oh silly Valkyrie you just don't understand. I've grown to enjoy watching these fights more than actually participating in them, and even if I did lust for combat I do not foresee myself being the reason humanity is able to remain unharmed. If anything if I were to fight then all of humanity would die. Which of course means I lose, which means humanity loses, which means. YOU. LOSE. " He stated sticking his finger into the Valkyrie's face and giving it a slight wave, "And I don't think you'd enjoy that. I mean after all. I might be The Joker in our deck, Adam The Ace, but there is still no Wildcard. And we all know that everyone loves a good Wildcard." His finger does not drop.
The Valkyrie rightfully became enraged as she snatched his finger. Gritting her teeth she asked, "Oh really? AND WHO COULD YOU POSSIBLY SEE LEADING MANKIND TO VICTORY?! WHO IS THIS "WILDCARD" YOU SPEAK SO HIGHLY OF?!" She dropped the prophet's hand and tried to regain herself before her anger once again let out, and in a fury, she asked one last question, "And who do you know that could sync their hearts with one of my sisters' in such a short time?"
This was one of the few times that her own side, humanity, had filled her with such rage and the only time she'd been filled with so much at once; but even in the face of this rage Michel calmly said one word. This word was all she needed to hear, with this word she froze and looked at Nostradamus with shock and rejection. And what was this groundbreaking word that was uttered? What exactly was the word that seemingly shattered the very fabric of reality? It's simple really. Only three letters. That word was-
"Him."
Brunhidle froze and glanced black towards Michel in disbelief as she herself had been rejecting the very thought of letting him fight, not because she thought he'd lose but because she knew that he wouldn't. His sheer power made the mighty Adam look like a candle to a wildfire, "NO! I refuse! I will not let HIM place a foot within that arena. You know what he could do? Of course, you do! You've seen it! With that sword of his not only would he destroy the God standing in his way but anyone unlucky enough to stand within 100 miles of a single slash. My goal is to defeat the Gods not wipe them out."
"Well, it's either him or no one. I refuse to fight my dear Valkyrie, and anyways, with that sword he has you wouldn't need to worry about a sync with a sister. If he were to somehow fail, none of your dear siblings would need to fall with the last of humanity." Michel jumped up leaning his head against crossed arms before opening them wide with a grin, "So what do you say?"
Brunhidle trembled at even the thought but then realized that he left her with no other choice, "Fine. I'll see to it that he is the final fighter for humanity." She glared at the prophet, "But if he refuses you will fight. Understood?"
"Oh, why of course!" He said cheerfully, "But I wouldn't count on him denying such an offer, after all, he killed a God once before, so I see no reason why he won't do it again."
The Valkyrie stormed out of the room her younger sister following quickly behind her, "Wait, where is Michel? Isn't he supposed to be the final fighter for humanity?" Young Goll asked as she was unaware of the conversation that just took place; in anger her sister did not answer but instead sped up but Goll stomped her foot in place, "Where are you going? Tell me!"
Brunhidle stops and turns back to her younger sister, "That idiot refused to fight! He claimed that he "Didn't see himself being the reason humanity remains unharmed". So instead I'm to pick up a last-minute fighter and with no other choice I'm being forced to choose HIM."
"Wait what?! He refuses to fight?! Can he do that?!" The young Valkyrie asks astonished but then some questions appear, "Wait... who's this HIM guy you're talking about..? Is he someone scary? Someone who can't be trusted? Is he at least powerful?"
Brunhidle sighs, "No. He's not scary, he is not scary, and to his people, he was the one they trusted the most. He's just a piece of shit brat." She answered the first three questions and for the last, she glanced down at the floor, "Is he powerful? Yes. Yes, he is. Too powerful in fact. Which in most cases wouldn't be a problem but with HIM it is. Hell I have no clue if he'll even fight, which if he doesn't then humanity might just have to forfeit which means all those losses. Everyone who died fighting to save them would have died in vain and even those he lived would have fought in vain."
Her anger consumed her again as she punched the wall, "AND IT'D BE ALL THAT SO-CALLED PROPHET'S FAULT!"
Goll was now frightened, "And who is this HIM guy?"
Brunhidle looks up at her younger sister still refusing to say his name at the moment, "The One Chosen By The Sword. The Last Knight of the Round Table."
Goll looked at her as shock filled her body, she had only heard legends, the only human to ever slay a true god. The one man who stood against the heavens themselves, "Wait you don't mean-"
"King Arthur!" A middle-aged man in his 40s with long black hair, blue eyes, and standing around 6 feet would yell as he approached, "Young Arthur Pendragon! You have visitors! They claim to be Valkyrie sisters!"
The door to a seemingly run-down shack would pop open and a tired young man; some would even say child, no more than 17, standing no more than 5 and a half feet, leans against the doorway wiping his dark brown hair away from his grey eyes, "Okay okay, damn, learn to be quiet Merlin. I was sleeping."
"Sorry, but these two young ladies were saying they needed you." Merlin whispered, "They claim it's urgent and that you see to them at once."
"Okay? That happens all the time, tell them I'm busy or something. It's probably just some more posing sluts that can't get enough of me." Arthur turned as he closed his door behind him but it's stopped by a heel, "Oh come on old man I told you to tell them I'm busy! Scare them away or something! For crying out loud!" He glances back seeing Brunhidle standing in his doorway and after a quick pause, he coldly states, "Actually scratch that. Tell them that I'm dead. Dead, buried, and gone. Actually, you know what, tell them that I burned in the eternal flames of Hell never to be seen or heard of again. Then if they still don't listen, get Lancelot to take their heads, after all, she hasn't had the privilege of doing that in ages."
"Good to see you as well Pendragon. See you haven't changed one bit. Wonderful. Now I wouldn't be coming here if it wasn't urgent, you know that." The Valkyrie Sister says in a serious tone as she struggles to keep the door from slamming shut on her.
"Yeah and guess what you stank old hag?" Arthur jumps forwards, as he's forced to stand on his tippy toes to have any hopes of getting up in her face to stare into her eyes, "I. Don't. Give. A. Fuck. Understood?" He slams the door shut in her face.
Brunhidle gives a slight gasp in shock before attempting to regain herself but the rage she feels just can't help but leak out, "You spoiled, rotten, bastard!" She mumbles unknown to the young king, "Arthur! I'm serious! This is an urgent matter!" She screams trying to get through to him.
"Mr. Pendragon isn't here right now!" Arthur would yell back as he pours him some beer uninterested in whatever she has to say, "And he's not coming back until you leave!"
Brunhidle scoffs and turns, "Fine! WE DON'T NEED YOU ANYWAY!" She turns rage continuing to consume the usually calm Valkyrie, but Goll remains looking back and fourth between them in utter shock.
"Good! And never come back!" He takes a sip of his beer before spitting it out, "Damn it! That hag ruined my morning drinking mood."
"Wait, sister! I-" Goll frantically thinks of a way to settle this and bring the young king with them, and in one last ditch effort she turns to the hut and screams at the top of her lungs remembering something Brunhidle stated earlier, "IF YOU DON'T COME WITH US ALL OF YOUR PEOPLE WILL DIE ARTHUR!" She screams, causing Brunhidle and Arthur to freeze, "YOU HEAR ME, PENDRAGON?! YOUR PEOPLE WILL DIE-"
Suddenly there is a sword pressed against Goll's neck as an angered Arthur stands before her, "Is that a threat little girl? Because if it is then you better have the power to back it up." He states with a frozen tone applying pressure to his blade.
"Wait! No that's not it! Please hear me out!" The young Valkyrie screams terrified hoping that Brundhidle can calm everyone down.
"Then what is it?"
"We need you to fight Pendragon, or more specifically we need to kill a God; because if you don't then all of humanity dead or alive will be wiped from reality." Brunhidle states calmly from the sidelines, "Which in turn means all of your people would be wiped out as well. But if you fight, then you can of course alter this and save them, serve them as a King one last time."
"Cunning bitch... Fine." Arthur drops his sword from the young sister's throat before holding the glowing golden blade out in front of him, "You hear that Excalibur? We get to fight for our kingdom one last time." He turns to his mage, "Merlin why don't you go tell the round table and the rest of the kingdom that the greatest duel in history is about to begin."
Merlin bows, "Of course my king." He teleports away to do as Arthur commanded.
Arthur turns back to the two Valkyries, "Now who has the pleasure of dying by my blade today?"
"Arthur huh?" Buddha rubs his one good eye with a long yawn, "Haven't heard of him in ages. With what he did to the gods I'm surprised he's not in Hielhiem." Buddha roles over to face his friend, "But whatever the case, the humans should have this fight in the bag then. Don't you think Kintoki?"
Kintoki sighs, "One would think, but Anubis is one scary fellow don't you think?"
"Anubis? One would think that but his power still doesn't hold a candle to Zeus in terms of strength, and I hear that this King Arthur fellow is rumored to be even more powerful than him." Buddha glances back, "I mean you would know if this is true wouldn't you oh son of God?"
Jesus nods, "He is powerful, but that power is not his own, instead it is merely the output of the weapon he holds. The all-mighty Exclabuir, after all it was created by my very father."
Buddha raises an eyebrow, "Well he has to be somewhat powerful in his own right. I mean not even the mighty Michael could lift the sword from the stone."
"That my dear friend is because Michael was simply not worthy of wielding the sword," Jesus stated calmly.
"Wait so let me get this straight. An Archangel of God was not worthy of lifting the sword but that little piece of shit is?" Kintoki asks in utter confusion, "How is that possible?"
"I do not know but I refuse to question any of my father's creations." Jesus says as he sits down, "But all I know is that with Excalibur in hand, Arthur's victory is all but assured."
A laugh is heard as an older-looking man approaches, "Is that so Jesus? And what makes you so certain?"
"Because it is already written in stone Zeus. It is written that 'The one who wields the sword Excalibur will save humanity from the wraith of The Gods'."
"Really? Because if I recall," Zues bends down to lower his face to Jesus's, "He's already done that in the living world. Has he not?"
"He has not." Jesus smiles as he opens his eyes to meet Zues's, "Him defeating Tiw and a jealous Michael was not him saving humanity from the wrath of The Gods, but instead an act of him placing down his life in order to further protect his kingdom, as any good king would."
Zeus scoffs and stands back up, "Well whatever you claim it to be it doesn't matter, The Gods will have victory, and you!" Zeus glares down at Jesus, "You will learn that even the strongest of stones can be broken." Zeus storms off.
"He's so annoying!" Sighs Buddha as he cleans his ears, "Hearing his voice just makes me want to rip out his throat."
"Calm down Buddha, all is well. The Gods will not gain victory, on that you can trust."
"Yeah yeah, whatever you say." Buddha gets up and stretches.
"Where is Anubis?!" Ares screams demanding to know an answer, "WHERE IS HE?!"
"I already told you Greek. Anubis is in slumber and refuses to wake." The Mighty Sun God Ra screeches, "Now leave before I stop asking."
"He can't just sleep! He is the fighter for our final round!" Ares roars back in anger, "I'm tired of getting beaten by these humans! We need them gone and we need Anubis to do it!"
Ra stomps his foot down in anger and lets out a screech so loud it shakes the very halls of Valhalla, "I SAID LEAVE!"
Ares stumbles back holding his now ringing, bleeding ears, "I'll kill you!" Ares draws his sword and Ra draws his scepter but before they could come to blows a calm but booming voice halts them.
"Stop your bickering." Zeus approaches them and stops between the two fighting gods, "What seems to be the problem?"
Ares angrily states, "Bird God here is refusing me entry into Anubis's quarters! He needs to wake before the final battle or else we'll have to find another fighter father!"
Before Ra can scream out in rejection Zeus sighs and states, "Then find another fighter we will, a more powerful one. After all, it seems the humans have had a change of fighter as well."
"What? The humans have changed their fighter?! Don't tell me another god turned sides!"
"What my son? Of course not! They just brought out a more powerful human. Which before this tournament I wouldn't usually bat an eye to." Zeus claims before his voice turns icey, "But after they've murdered two of my brothers I have no choice but to prepare for the worst."
The God of War and Ra both nod as they know that the humans are nothing to be laughed at any more, "And who is this god you have in mind Zeus?" Ra asks.
"That I do not know yet. But I fear I might have to bring her out. The only one in all the cosmos that ever brought fear to my soul."
"And who exactly is that father..?" Ares asks now terrified, "Who could you possibly be fearful of?"
A foggy snake-like voice echoes as darkness consumes the halls, "Me." The voice states as a ghostly girl figure approaches.
Readers Note: I am open to suggestions, critiques, comments, pms, or ways to help improve the writing. This is my first ever story and just something that will end up being shorter compared to stories to come later down the road. As of now I do plan on releasing a chapter every 2 weeks to a month depending on if I hit writer's block. That schedule is subject to change as well. And you might be wondering why I described some characters differently than how we all know them, it was my attempt to put a spin on a character like Record of Ragnarok is known for doing, which plays a huge part in it being a wonderful story. Thank you so much for reading chapter one and I hope you are excited for future chapters to come!
