Chapter 3: Warnings
Sonic races through Green Hill as he exits his favorite spot. He reaches the coast of the beach and spots a red plane. The Tornado. Even though Tails flies this plane more, it was always Sonic's plane. The blue blur is a good pilot, but his skills are outclassed by Tails himself. That is something the hedgehog is okay with, since he prefers running anyway, but he does like to fly too. Sonic takes his plane and pilots it towards Emerald Town.
In Emerald Town, the hometown for civilians, including Sonic himself. Humans, mobians and even the Chao, are living together in peace and harmony. Not once had they ever had any grudge against each other. They each share mutual likes and dislikes, such as food, music, movies, etc. And of course, they all share a high opinion on Sonic and his friends. And if there is one mutual dislike they share, it's their huge dislike towards Dr. Eggman.
Sonic reaches the town and smirks over the blue sky and the smell of the ocean and food. He has his own private house near the coast of the town with a runaway for his plane. He lands the plan safely and quickly hops out.
"Ah, Emerald Town. Good to be back here. Even though I live here everyday. I just hope Tails is home. But first, time for a chili dog." Sonic said before rushing off.
Sonic speeds off to enjoy one little thing before heading to his best friend's house, and that would be eating his favorite food. The blue hero quickly grabs a chili dog from the stand and heads to Tails' place as he manages to eat it whole.
After eating, Sonic stops right in front of Tails' house, which is shaped like his head. Sonic rolls his eyes and smiles before he knocks on the door. Within a few seconds, footsteps approach the door and it opens, revealing the two-tailed fox Tails.
Tails, while not as fast as a runner nor as brave as his best friend Sonic, is exceptionally smart. To Sonic, he is the smartest mobian he knows. He is known for his two tails, which grants him the ability to fly. He is very gentle-hearted and loyal and loves mechanics to the point where his intelligence rivals that of Eggman himself. He has gained more self-confidence and independence. While not a fighter, he does enjoy helping others out without asking for anything in return.
"Sonic! Good to see you, pal!" Tails smiled.
Tails and Sonic fistbump each other with the latter ruffling with the former's three hairs on his head.
"Good to see you too, brother. How's it been going with your lab and such?" Sonic asked.
"Everything is going great. Extended it and made it even better. In fact, I've made a radar to detect both life forms and inorganic beings. As soon as one lifeform came by within a second, then I was hoping it would be you." Tails answered.
"Clever boy. Pretty smart just in case those Deadly Six Suckers try to mess with us again. They would be stupid enough to try to attack us. Same thing if Eggman would try to even find us." Sonic joked.
This caused Tails to laugh.
"True. Or if we have any friends come by and such. I mean I always check and double check my things before they are ready. Like any good scientist would. At least I don't have a huge ego who is prone to outbursts." Tails joked, referring to Eggman.
Sonic laughs at how Tails roasted Eggman.
"Oh yeah. He's the worst." Sonic teasingly sang.
They both laugh again. They enjoy the good times they have enjoyed beating Eggman all the time, especially after their temporary alliance against the Deadly Six. But this causes Sonic to remember something.
"Speaking of which. Something very strange happened earlier." Sonic said.
"What happened, Sonic?" Tails wondered.
"I was just having a good time in Green Hill. Just being myself and such and all of a sudden, I heard crashing and saw a big Eggman robot trying to trash the place. I trashed the robot, but after he went timbering over, he just vanished into thin air. And Eggman didn't talk the entire time. Kinda strange don't ya think?" Sonic tells Tails.
"A robot that vanishes? That's a bit hard to believe. I don't think Eggman has any capabilities of teleportation." Tails shrugged.
"That's what I thought too. And I know it's not Chaos Control. There were like red pixels, weird sounds going around before it vanished. I mean how is it hard to believe. We ran into aliens that give you special powers, me turning into a werehog, or time travel." Sonic said.
Okay. Fair point. But still, that's a new trick Eggman has learned. So you trashed a robot, which vanished after you beat it like it was a ghost. Strange, but I believe you now." Tails stated.
"Exactly. The question is, how did he do that?" Sonic expressed confusion.
Sonic and Tails both hear beeping coming from Tails' new form radar. The two dots appear to be green, meaning that they are lifeforms. Red means they are robots.
"Two lifeforms. Coming to us fast." Tails analyzed.
"You don't think it's Eggman, do you?" Sonic asked.
Sonic gets to a defensive stance, ready to face whoever was coming. But thankfully, it was not their archenemy.
"No. Two lifeforms. Some friends of ours." Tails corrected.
Tails turns to Sonic and smiles before he flies at the door and opens it with Sonic dashing behind him. They look up and they see Silver coming towards them while holding Knuckles with his psychic powers.
"Knuckles! Silver! What's up, guys? How's it going?" Sonic waved.
"Not good, Sonic. Really not good." Knuckles answered.
"Why? What's the matter? Why so serious on such a fine day like this?" Tails asked.
"Because of Eggman." Silver said.
Sonic and Tails look at each other with genuine concern on their faces. They seem to be alarmed by what the time traveling hedgehog just said.
"What? Are you saying Eggman is gonna cause a bad thing in your future? Now that's a hard thing to believe. All of his plans are laughable." Sonic said.
"I wish that were, Sonic. But I'm very serious. After spending some time with Blaze, Cream and Cheese, I went back to my future, but when I got back, everything was the worst. The entire world was conquered by Eggman." Silver gulped.
"What?!" Everyone yelled.
This caused Sonic, Tails and Knuckles to look at Silver with eyes widened and shocked at what he just said. Eggman? Conquering the world? Say it isn't so.
"H-how can that be? How could Eggman conquer the world? It's impossible. Sonic has always beaten him." Tails stammered.
"Yeah. And he's even had help from us. Eggman is a joke. What could he possibly do to take over the world?" Knuckles wondered.
"Hold up. We last saw you on the Sweet Mountain when me and Tails were rescuing the Wisps from Eggman. And at my birthday party. You said it was good, the sky is blue and everybody's smiling." Sonic reminded Silver.
"It was like that before I left to come here to the past for that Interstellar Amusement Park. And my future was not in ruins before Eggman's Time Eater kidnapped me." Silver replied.
"And why did you summon me, exactly? What is the future like when you went back?" Knuckles asked.
Silver looks at everyone with serious looks on their faces as they go inside Tails' house. Silver is nervous about explaining the story to them, but given the circumstances they are in, and are surprised that Eggman is the biggest threat this time, he has no choice. The silver hedgehog begins to explain everything to Sonic and the group. This is a story that none of them will like as much as Silver hated the experience he witnessed.
Silver's Future
Silver has always fought hard for his future. From the likes of Eggman's descendant Eggman Nega, and not to mention Eggman himself. And he from time to time had help from others such as Sonic and Espio. After defeating Eggman Nega, Silver's future changed for the better. Everyone was happy, cities were futuristic, there were no major threats. Silver departed to spend some time in the past with his friends and celebrate Sonic's birthday.
But as soon as the fun and games were over….
A light blue portal opens from inside a cave, Silver's hiding spot. He uses this just in case no one tries to follow him into the past. This is where Silver steps out and was smiling.
"Wow. It was a lot of fun celebrating Sonic's birthday and eating those chili dogs. No wonder he loves them so much. And it was so fun seeing Blaze again and spending time with her and Cream and her mother. They're so nice." Silver sighed.
Silver starts walking his way out of the cave and was ready to get back to protecting his own timeline from any future threats. But instead of seeing a shining light, he sees some darkness….. And some bad air.
"Ugh. What is that gosh darn smell?! Certainly wasn't….. Me?"
Silver steps outside the cave and sees something rather unexpected. He doesn't see a bright sun. It is covered in dark, thick clouds, and there is snow almost everywhere. Not only that, but one of the main cities that Silver lives in is gone. Instead, it's a huge fortress, developed by Eggman himself. There are searchlights everywhere, ships in the sky and robots marching around the fortress, on the lookout. Seven pillars all electrified and creating a shield. The air smells terrible and the environment is extremely poor. Silver sees that the fortress' pillars are all powered by the seven Chaos Emeralds.
"What? What the heck has happened here? What is this? Eggman. What did you do?!"
Silver steps out of the cave, only to be nearly blinded by bright lights as a few flying robots descend on him.
"Halt! State your identification and business!" Some robots said.
"Eggman robots? What are you doing here?" Silver asked.
"State your identification and business! Comply or face termination at the hands of Dr. Eggman!" Eggman's voice is heard.
"Eggman! What did he do?! What has he done to my future?!" Silver blurted in sudden anger.
"If you will not apply, then you will be terminated." The robots warned before attacking.
The robots all start shooting lasers at the time traveling hedgehog, but Silver uses his psychokinesis to grab the lasers fired at him and throws them back at one of them, blowing it up. The second robot dives in at Silver, but he grabs the robot and throws him upward at the ceiling of the cave, destroying it. He then turns to the third robot and uses his powers to crush it into a big, metal sphere.
Silver stares at the fortress and sees flags of the Eggman Empire everywhere. This could not be. He was confused on how this all happened. He would do anything to know. He hears some screaming. He looks down and right and sees a human mother and a little boy wearing ragged clothing running for their lives as ground robots chase them with big arms open and ready to catch them. Silver flies down there to help them.
He stops right in front of the robot and backhands it across the face before swing kicking it into a wall, deactivating it. More robots appear running towards them from both sides. On one side, Silver brings an arm back and thrusts it forward, sending a spinning wave, sending several robots backwards and destroying them. On the other side, Silver sends out a horizontal ESP wave, slicing all the robots in half. Once all of them are down, they all vanish with red pixels and a strange sound appearing briefly.
Silver turns to see hundreds of robots surrounding him and the duo. To his surprise, they are all appearing out of nowhere and are making strange sounds and red pixels. Silver sees that there is no way to win this so he uses his powers to lift the mother and child and they all fly away from the battlefield. As they leave, Silver looks back and sees a brief glimpse of a figure floating in the air.
Some creature is wearing a mask, only one eye is visible and is red and yellow. A crystal is in the middle of his chest and wears spiked gloves and shoes and all black with white hair in the back of its head. Just who is this person?
Silver finds another cave for them to hide in beside a dry riverbed where he gently sets the two down and they cower and shiver in fear.
"Are you two okay?" Silver asked.
"Y-yes. T-thank you, Mr. Hedgehog. W-where did you come from?" The mother asked.
"My name is Silver. But I must ask what happened here?" Silver said.
"Haven't you heard? Where are you from? It's that evil scientist. I think he goes by Lord Eggman now." The woman answered.
"Lord Eggman? What? How is this possible? What happened here?" Silver couldn't believe it.
"That evil, irredeemable man conquered the entire world. He has powerful allies helping him. One of them is said to have a strange, unlimited power. He can't be beaten." The woman stuttered in fear.
"But where are the soldiers? Where is Sonic the Hedgehog?" Silver asked.
The woman and child were reluctant to say anything to him. But the boy spoke up.
"G-gone." The boy answered.
The boy starts tearing up with the mother holding him and Silver being confused.
"Gone? How? He's supposed to be the big hero. It's his job to save the world. He always does." Silver took a few steps back.
"He….. he lost. Eggman beat Sonic in a war in an effort to take back the planet from his evil hands. I don't know how though. Some red echidna led the Resistance against Eggman, but the mad doctor won. It's been hundreds of years and he roboticized himself so he could live forever." The mother answered before shedding some tears.
Silver took a few steps back and could not bear what he just heard from these two poor people. This could not be. Sonic gone? Eggman ruling the planet? How? Why? To him and to everyone, this is everyone's worst nightmare.
"No. This cannot be. Eggman. In control of the world. This can't be happening. This has to be a bad dream. Eggman always lost to Sonic. But there has to be an explanation. There has to." Silver paced back and forth.
"Please help us, Mr. Silver. Please." The woman pleaded.
The woman and child try their best not to cry again.
"There has to be a way to stop him. Just how?" Silver asked.
"According to many other people, it's impossible to break into the fortress. Everyone who tried were either arrested or destroyed. And everytime someone tries to destroy the robots, more of them just come out of nowhere." The woman answered.
"Yeah, and these guys are all red, pixely and funny-looking. They always make some strange sound like we heard." The boy added.
"Will you help us?"
"Without a doubt. But there is one way I can help. But you must trust me on this." Silver said.
"What will you do?" The boy asked.
"I am a time traveler. I can go back to the past and find Sonic. He's my friend. So is everyone else. And you said a red echidna. I think I know who you're talking about. I can warn them ahead of time. Please." Silver offered his hand.
The woman does not hesitate to shaking Silver's hand.
"Oh, thank you, Mr. Silver. Thank you. Even though we just met, I know you can do it. For my son. For me, for this entire world. And for Sonic." The woman smiled and shed more tears.
"I promise. I will be back. You two stay here. Don't go outside this cave. You understand me?" Silver instructed.
The woman and child both nod without hesitation. Silver smiles at them both before he turns around and brings out a yellow Time Stone. He sighs and is ready to warn his friends.
"Chronos Control!"
A light-blue portal opens and Silver turns to the duo one more time and smiles and nods before he flies into the portal, which closes almost instantly.
Present Day
Silver has just finished explaining everything to Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. The three of them are shocked at what they all just listened to. It was unbelievable that Eggman was successful in taking over the world and the heroes losing. But given that his future has been threatened from time to time, they have no choice but to believe him.
"Gosh. That's perhaps the scariest story I have ever heard. Eggman actually winning. Us failing and him conquering the entire world. This is so much. And Silver fighting those robots and them vanishing just like Sonic did, this has to be more than a coincidence." Tails could not believe what he just heard.
"Not to mention that there was a war. Normally, we were able to trash his so-called fleets, like the time he got betrayed by Metal Sonic." Knuckles added.
"Yeah. But with Silver's warning, I'm sure we'd be able to stop Eggman's plan, whatever it is. Maybe even try to stop a war before it even starts. That's what we do best." Sonic believed.
"But first, we need a plan. It may be best to warn all of our other friends. They may need to know about the future as well." Silver suggested.
"Nice suggestion, Silver. I think it may be best to split up. Me and Tails can go find Amy and let her know." Sonic said.
"Great. I can find the Chaotix. Given their detective skills, they should be able to find out what Egg McFatman is planning to do." Knuckles chimed in.
"But what about Shadow and the others? Maybe they should be alarmed by all of this?" Tails asked.
"I can go. We're gonna need all the help we can get. Shadow, Rouge and Omega should know. They work for G.U.N. We can use their expertise." Silver said.
"Then it's all settled then! Time to split up and help save the world, my friends! Let's do this!"
Sonic runs off towards Amy's house with Tails flying in the air and following closely behind Sonic. Thankfully, his flying abilities allow him to keep up with the hedgehog. Knuckles runs off in another direction to contact the Chaotix while Silver flies off to find G.U.N and Shadow. As the heroes separated…. Some of the jackals of the squad were watching the entire time.
"Sonic and the heroes have split off, and the lab is left unguarded. Ready for the taking." Jackal Member #1 commed to his boss.
"Good. I will be there shortly. We take whatever we find and bring it to our boss. He needs it for his newest discovery." The Jackal Leader said.
"And the silver hedgehog?" Member #2 asked.
"Orders from the doctor himself. Catch him. I'm sending my commander to help. Eggman told me about him, and said he must be brought in alive." The Jackal Leader ordered.
The Jackal Leader hangs up as he smirks at the monitor focusing on Tails' house. Then he turns to his boss for further questions.
"So, doctor. What do you need specifically for your new gem?"
"I'm thinking about making duplicates of this Phantom Ruby. In case Sonic steals it and Tails tries to analyze it and use it against me. Better safe than sorry. I have an idea of making prototypes. But I need more technology and to make sure Tails is not ahead of me. That annoying fox always has more labs." Eggman explained.
"Stealing technology to make more gems like that. I like the way you think, doctor. I can't wait to see that little blue rat's face when you have the power. He will submit." The Jackal Leader declared.
Eggman nods to him in understanding as they both chuckle at their plans to take over the world and face off against Sonic.
Sonic and the others have gone their separate ways. They've gone off to warn their friends about Eggman's potential threat, according to Silver. Normally, they considered Eggman a threat, even with his ridiculous inventions. But from time to time, they also considered him a joke and a nuisance.
Given how Silver faced robots from his future and proved to be formidable, even with how Sonic encountered a few earlier, they had to take the situation seriously this time. For now, they must be ready for the possible worst.
Sonic and Tails run through the city while zooming past vehicles, jumping off them and grinding on rails on the way. Sonic spin dashes off a skateboard ramp and strikes a pose with Tails before landing on another street. He boosts off a ramp and onto a company building. Sonic runs and jumps from building to building. He sees a stray skateboard and kicks it in the air and spins and Sonic lands on it as the board hits the ground. Tails flies above Sonic and does two loop de loops in the air before diving down to catch up to Sonic as he skates down the streets and up the slopes before he jumps on a couple of rails and grinds on them. Sonic jumps off the rail and skateboard and homing attacks a spring and he bounces up to another building. Once he runs to the edge, he jumps off the building and Tails catches him and swings him back and forth and back and forth before Tails throws Sonic forward and he boosts right on top of an apartment complex.
"Well, that was fun as heck! This brings back the good times we've had." Sonic said.
"You mean the part where Shadow framed you and got you arrested and you had to escape from the city." Tails teased.
"Well the framing part was partly Eggman, but still, the running in the city from monstrous trucks was fun. Here we are at Amy's apartment complex." Sonic said.
"Hopefully she's home. Let's go see." Tails told him.
Sonic and Tails enter the door that leads downstairs and they reach the second highest floor in the building. Once the two approach her door, they hear her boxercising in her apartment, which is a term she made up.
Amy Rose is a pink hedgehog who has an obsessive crush on Sonic, much to his dismay, but regardless, sees her as a friend. She is very proactive, energetic, and has a sense of fashion and love. Amy can be very expressive and open with her emotions, showing her huge love for Sonic, protectiveness for her friends such as Tails and Cream. She can also be quick to anger whenever someone she cares about gets hurt or dare to insult her. She can be very pushy and bossy, and her temper can land her in trouble. She uses her Piko Piko Hammer to fight and is not afraid to fight. Regardless, she is optimistic, cheerful and hopeful. She really cares for all types of beings, including her friends, her best friend Cream and her crush Sonic.
Sonic and Tails knock on the door and she hears footsteps and goes up to the door and sees Sonic and Tails in front of her.
"SONIC!" Amy screeded.
Amy grabs Sonic and pulls him in for a tight hug, briefly lifting him off the ground. Tails hides his laughter as Sonic desperately tries to break free from her strong hold as he could barely move his arms.
"H-hi Amy. Umm, I-I can't breathe." Sonic coughed.
Sonic struggles to breathe, causing Amy to let go of him, though with a bit of reluctance.
"Oh. Sorry, Sonic." Amy's eyes brightened.
"Hey, Amy. What's up?" Tails smiled.
"Tails. Good to see you too." Amy replied before they high five each other.
"What have you been up to, recently?"
"Oh, same as usual. Been boxercising, talking to Cream, Ms. Vanilla and Gemerl. Shopping and making improvements, thinking about getting a new home. What about you two?" Amy said.
"Oh, having chili dogs, going through Green Hill and running into trouble as usual, which is the fun part." Sonic said.
"Uh-oh. Is Eggy the fatty causing a ruckus again?" Amy said with a tone of annoyance.
Amy rolls her eyes about all the troubles he has always caused. She remembers first encountering him when he had Metal Sonic abduct her and bring her to Eggman.
"Oh. Yeah, about that." Sonic scratches the back of his head.
"Is there something wrong, Sonic? You know you can tell me anything. Please tell me. Tell me, tell me, tell me." Amy pleaded.
Amy grabs Sonic's hand and drags him into her room, causing the blue blur to almost trip with Tails following them. Inside her apartment, the two boys tell her what has been going on recently, from Sonic's encounters in Green Hill, to Silver coming from the future and the warning.
Amy is scared and shocked as she covers her mouth. Given Silver's honesty and optimism, she had no choice but to believe it.
"Oh gosh. That's horrible. The entire world in ruins? Eggman in control and Sonic losing and possibly dead? This has to be a bad dream for us." Amy shuddered and got goosebumps.
"I'd say the same thing, Amy. But given the frightened look on Silver's face, I don't blame you." Tails said.
"What are we gonna do? We can't just stand around here and wait for something to happen. Sonic, what do you think we should do?" Amy looked at her 'true love.'
"I'll tell you what we're not gonna do. We're not gonna let our fear get the best of us. We're gonna get together to stop EggHead no matter what." Sonic tells her.
"Don't worry, Amy. Knuckles is gonna contact the Chaotix while Silver will find Team Dark. We got this in the bag."
"Oh, thank goodness. I guess you can say that. Eggman better watch his back, because my hero here will kick his sorry butt again and put him in his place." Amy winks at Sonic, causing him to react awkwardly.
"Uhh, y-yeah. That's right, Amy. I think it's time we get started. Silver said Knuckles may form a resistance if necessary. We better hope he has some good ideas." Sonic stammered.
"Speaking of which, I should let Cream, her mother and Gemerl know. They best oughta hear this." Amy added.
"Even though she doesn't like fighting, her safety is a big priority since she's kinda young. And we may need Gemerl's help if we need it." Tails suggested.
"Then it's settled. Please be careful with what you're gonna do next, Sonic. Let's keep in touch with each other." Amy tells Sonic.
"You bet! Let's go!" Sonic gives her a thumbs up.
Sonic and Tails speed off from Amy's apartment while Amy exits her room, ready to meet her best friend again. Despite being told about the harsh truth, Amy sighs in confidence that they will win. Her eyes are filled with brightness as she loves seeing Sonic smile, looking at his green eyes and the bravery in his tone of voice. He walks and heads to Cream's house.
Note: I apologize for introducing these characters and explaining who they are. The reason why I do this was because in case there are any readers out there who aren't familiar with Sonic. But there will be several chapters that will take place before the events of the actual game of Sonic Forces. I hope you guys are liking this so far. Until next time.
